We hosted our first Ugly Sweater at Bistro 1051. Not only did we have a great turn out, we had an amazing experience from Mike and staff. The owner was super accommodating at hosting our party of 25 ppl. Tables were already set up upon our arrival and the staff introduced themselves. Immediately following everyone's arrival, food and beverages started rolling out right on time! As it's BYOB, we were able to bring our own wine and beer and have it chilled in the provided iced buckets. The food was FANTASTIC! The meatballs were an absolute hit!! What allowed me to provide a 5 start review (really 10 star review) was when the kitchen and staff were super accommodating to the respective food allergies of a few of our patrons. They personally prepared our selective menu to accommodate restrictions of ingredients. We selective the top package which included an occasional cake which was also delicious!! We were able to sing happy birthday as well. The owner checked in several times to make sure everyone was good as well. We could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone had a blast!! The room was great too where we were able to put our Ugly Sweater backdrop for photo ops. I am a returning client of Bistro 1051 for large parties and date nights. Always a great time and great food! Came here for a colleagues retirement celebration. Very elegant set up, we had a party of 11 and we were seated in the back area which was great so we don't disturb other diners. Appetizers came out hot and fresh. Entrees, not so hot. I ordered the Scallops Arogoste special. Scallops were seared well and fresh, the risotto was meh.. it came out warm like it had been sitting a while while the other dishes were being prepared. Lobster risotto, barely any lobster for $44.95. The service was great, our waitress was very sweet and had the patience of a saint. Always good food ! A lot of options , usually places that try to do different variety fail. They do everything well here. The place is dimly lit and can be loud when busy but so worth the visit and wait if there is one. Also byob which we love. We had 4 appetizers and an entree to share and only paired $100. This place has an identity crisis. Not your typical Italian restaurant ( they added sushi to the menu as well). As soon as you walk in , it feels like diner was combined with small banquet hall. Service was not present. Tracy was not attentive and was just constantly talking with hostesses ( impossible to even ask for a water refill). Food was not bad - good flavor, but a touch too oily ( that's what earned this review a 2 stars). But presentation- worst I ever seen! Just see the picture of $45 risotto dish and judge for yourself. We've all had our experiences with less than perfect service at a restaurant, but what makes an establishment stand out is having an owner who thinks enough of his customers to make a call and apologize for what happened. Such is the case with a take out order I placed yesterday that fell through the cracks. As Mike explained, it was an innocent mistake on the part of an employee in having taken the order to begin with, as the restaurant was extremely busy with large parties. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant in our town that serves such delicious food and is owned by a gentleman who appreciates every one of his customers. Always an excellent meal at bistro! We had the special burrata with avocado and tomato on crostini as our appetizer which was delicious! We also had the fettuccine and shrimp and the shrimp had a charred taste to them which was different and enjoyable. We also had the chicken parm which is always delicious! It was my husband's birthday and we came here for lunch. We ordered some avocado sushi to share. He ordered the burrata ravioli and I ordered the Kobe beef linguini. I saw other people's large portions and we were excited for our food. When my husband's food came, he literally only had four pieces of ravioli, some cheese shavings, and some cherry tomatoes. My husband was extremely upset. It tasted good but he went home starving and I had to cook him a meal. What we ordered was a dinner entree and not an appetizer. Was there some kind of confusion? It's been a while since my wife and I have been to this place but we figured we would give it a shot after a while. We weren't thrilled with it last time we were there and this time we were pleasantly surprised. We both had the halibut special which came with corn risotto, it was delicious and we are very happy. It was a decent portion size and was cooked perfectly for dessert. We both had a cappuccino and asked for the toasted almond cake as well as tiramisu for dessert. Unfortunately they were out of the toasted almond cake, which seemed like a pattern as a waitress had told us they were out of several other items as well. A little disappointing, but from what we were told, they had several big parties earlier so understandable. We would definitely come back here again as they totally redeem themselves for the last time we were there. I'll stand by my previous review about the ambience. I don't understand why dance/club music is being played in an upscale restaurant. Would've been perfect with some type of Italian music like Frank Sinatra or even classical oldies music. I feel compelled to update my review and verify that the owner/manager really does not wear his mask when he talks to tables. He pulls down his mask to talk to just about every single table from what we could see. The restaurant also seems to get very full (and loud) from my perspective so I'm not sure how safe those who are COVID-conscious would feel here. We made a reservation for a Saturday night and were asked to wait for our table for about fifteen minutes. That wouldn't have been so bad but then we waited two and a half hours for our food to come out. They had offered us salad as means of apology, without considering that three of us had already ordered salad and would be paying for it on the check. We declined. We ask the waiter if something can be done about the long wait we had and he assured us the manager would take care of it. Then we receive the check, and not a single thing was taken off or changed. The manager comes over to speak to us and proceeds to get into a full blown screaming argument with a friend of mine at our table in which the owner asks him if he "wants to take this outside." At the end of the day too, he just knocked $20 off of an almost $200 bill. Safe to say that customer service is not their strong suit and for that reason we will never be back. Two stars instead of one though because some of the food we had was enjoyable (the Horseradish Salmon in particular). read more

We went to a graduation party at bistro in Clark we were very impressed. There was a couple other parties going on at the time. The food was delicious. The service was out of this world being there were so many people to attend to. Everyone was on the ball, taking care of table, taking care of food, making sure everybody got excellent service. We thought the food was really good. It's a very tight and loud restaurant so the atmosphere is just OK but I would've gone back for the really great food. The problem is this restaurant charges 18% tip to every meal even if you're just two people like we were. I didn't think this was legal but it certainly not standard practice . In error. We went to Bistro to celebrate the wife's birthday. The seating was later in the evening because of the holiday but they sat us early. Service was superb. The party was nine persons and everyone raved about their meals. The octopus appetizer is delicious, as were the Flatbreads and calamari apps. I got the seard scallops over lobster risotto. Covid has me on this weird adventure where I try new places out in my area. Post Covid I was barely home so I never got a chance to explore restaurants around here. We tried Bistro on a whim AND BABY this is THE BEST RESTAURANT in my area! 5 stars is hard to get from me but this is deserving. I ordered dynamite shrimp flat bread and chicken penne with vodka sauce and it was the best decision I made. The food was absolutely delicious. Now I don't get quick to name a place top 5 off of one experience so I ordered again a month later and baby the food was still good!!!! I ordered with my brother and he loved his food. I had this place on the try list for a while and finally got a chance to. When I arrived I parked in the plaza parking lot and walked over. There seemed to be a dinner party of some sort going on so the hostess sat us towards the side, back of the restaurant. It is a cute restaurant. We were served by a nice server named Daniel and he was very attentive. I did not know this place was byob so we weren't prepared for this. I ordered the braised prime rib with rice amd vegetables and my friend ordered the shrimp pasta. When the food came out it looked great. When I tasted it the sauce was very strong in taste but not bad and I had to put salt and pepper the the vegetables. My friend had to add pepper to her meal and it made it much better for her. A sushi/ Italian joint?? Truly a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall. The atmosphere is charming and the food exceptional but then again it seems to take forever to arrive. The pork chop is off the hook and the pastas are all equally yummy. Most surprising is that the sushi is really good as well. This place was fantastic. Food was excellent, the ambiance was great (esp overlooking the lake), and our server Igor was a joy to meet. Def will be coming back. Review of the food: The Tomato, Mozzarella, Eggplant Stack was delicious. I was pleased to see that the mozz slices were thick, loved the choice of yellow tomato, and the fried eggplant slice was delicious. It all worked very well together, and was more filling than I expected. We also loved the White Clam pie. Thought it was absolutely delicious, the clams were super fresh, and the red chili peppers gave the pizza a nice kick of spice that I like a lot. Came on a Sunday night around 7:15pm with a part of four. The restaurant had many open tables so we were seated promptly. The restaurant provided bread and butter to start. I actually was a fan of the bread because I really enjoyed how crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside! I ordered a special- the caprese gnocchi which is a baked dish with gnocchi, tomatoes, asparagus, mozzarella, and shrimp (I asked the waiter to leave out the shrimp since I'm vegetarian). The gnocchi was very filling despite his light/fluffy each piece tasted. I loved the shallot sauce that accompanied the dish, it gave the dish such good flavor. Overall portion sizes are generous and sharable, and the quality of the food tastes fresh and authentic. I would definitely come here again! read more

This restaurant is in a strip mall, indoor and outdoor seating. Great diverse menu. Everything from sushi to Italian fare . Good salads. This is a BYOB place which we prefer. There is a liquor store across the parking lot BTW! Great for lunch, and dinner, too. The servers are very attentive, keep watch if you need anything. It's bright with many windows in one area, and darker, more romantic on the other side of the restaurant. They also have a room to do banquets and events. I have always enjoyed the food there. There were many things i loved about my experience at Bistro 1051..easy to find parking, atmosphere was nice, food smelled good as soon as we walked in the door, i was able to bring my own wine (byob) food was DELICIOUS, waiter was friendly and we didn't wait long to get our entree even though it was a busy night. The food was delicious as expected, we've eaten there prior, and the service was very good. We had a party of about 60 and they really enjoyed the gathering. We came in last night on a Monday to celebrate Father's Day and had a mixed experience. Food was decent and our salads were good (We tried the Caesar, the strawberry goat cheese, and the Mediterranean). The real issue came to service - our whole meal took 2.5 hours and it took a full 2 hours upon sitting just for us to get our entrees. My father is older and had started to get lightheaded by the time our meals came. The manager came over and said they were understaffed because "people don't want to work" which was disappointing - much more likely your staff is underpaid and overworked, but fine. Regardless, a manager's job is to take responsibility for the quality and service of the meal. Wasn't a fan of that interaction. Our entrees were okay, we got the Parmesan crusted pork chop which was excellent and the veal parm which was huge - literally a massive portion. I had the stuffed flounder which tasted pretty fishy, so i only ate part of my meal. In short, food is ok (on the pricey side), but not worth it in terms of service and experience. read more

The establishment was relatively small. There were 2 small rooms available. It kind of gave off a diner feeling with the windows and how close everything was together. They also have a banquet room that is part of the mini strip mall as well as BBQ catering. The menu truly featured very interesting options with Italian and sushi choices. Given our large party, the staff was great and friendly. All of the food came out quickly too. The appetizers I tried are below with thoughts on each. Long Hot Peppers ($9.99) - The hot peppers were also accompanied with potatoes and onions, which I have not seen before, but it was a brilliant idea. The peppers seemed to be fried in a pan and the peppers juices were cooked into the potato and onions. It was very good. Dynamite Shrimp ($11.99) - There was a fair amount of tailless shrimp in their spicy bistro sauce over a spring mix. The sauce was tremendous. It had just the right amount of thickness and spice level. They did not go light on that sauce either!! Vodka Sauce Flatbread ($13.99) - The flatbread was with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and vodka sauce. It had a good flavor, but was a little soggy. The sauce did not taste like the vodka sauce I am used to, but still tasty. Tapas Shrimp & Chorizo ($13.99) - This was jumbo shrimp and chorizo sautéed in a lemon garlic sauce. The sauce was exceptional. For the chorizo, it was decent at best. It was not cooked enough and tasted more like sausage. Grilled Octopus ($13.99) - The octopus came with capers and artichoke hearts in a lemon garlic white wine sauce. The octopus was cooked to perfection and the sauce was great. Kamikaze Roll - ($12.99) - The roll consisted of shrimp tempura, and avocado on the inside with spicy tuna and salmon on top with wasabi cream, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. The roll was very fresh and delicious. It was not as spicy as I thought, but still very enjoyable. For my entrée, I went with the chicken Linda ($20?). The chicken was layered with prosciutto, mozzarella with a mushrooms cognac demi glaze. It came with string beans and mashed potatoes, which were good. This was just a well put together dish especially the demi glaze. That was what made the dish complete I thought. I also tried the chicken bistro. It was comprised of a chicken cutlet with mixed greens, tomato, red onion, mozzarella cheese with a red wine vinaigrette. The chicken cutlet was a little bland as well as the vinaigrette. All of the components made it sound curious regardless. For dessert, I tried 3 dishes and they are below. Tartufo - This was a standard tartufo, no complaints or anything different here. Granola Apple Crisp - The crisp was with caramelized granny smith apples topped with homemade granola and vanilla caramel topped with vanilla ice cream. The crust was too hard and made the rest of the dessert just okay. Vanilla Crème Brulee - I am not sure of the exact name, but it was a definitely crème brulee. We had a large party and we were coming from all corners of the state, and Clark NJ was a perfect central location. One of our friends found this little gem online and made a reservation. There was another large party that was there prior to us, and they were not yet finished when our reservation time rolled around. There was about a 30 minute wait which was understandable since we had a party of 12. On the bright side, they opened one of our bottles of wine for us and let us have a glasses while we waited. The owner is a very warm individual, and he sincerely wants everyone to have a nice time. As his regular customers entered, it was all handshakes, kisses on the cheek. I was impressed. Even as first time customers, he had a welcoming demeanor which was a very nice touch. This is while he was attending to a dozen other things at the same time like a great owner/manager does. Once we were seated, we were well attended to by a couple member of the staff. They took our orders and just gave solid unassuming service. For apps we had grilled octopus, dynamite shrimp Flatbread and calamari. All good quality. I had a special, lamb ossobuco with a truffle rice which was delishious. The horseradish encrusted salmon was not a big hit with some of the ladies from what I heard but everything else was well enjoyed. I capped it off with a creme broulee and cappuccino which was perfect. The damage was not bad. We ordered liberally and after gratuity it was a little under $100 per couple. Very good value for the quality. The restaurant is byob and located in a strip mall which is easy to find and park. I recommend you try out Bistro 1051. read more
