Pretty amazing little place tucked away near the airport. Our new management wanted to try something more original than what usually gets suggested and I was overjoyed to get away from mainstream mediocrity. They have a decent sized parking lot with plenty of spots at lunch rush hour. They're very accommodating on where you sit. Great patio or a comfy modern dining room. I got a Green Pie which is loaded with perhaps a tad too much cheese and olive oil. I would have preferred more arugula and less dairy for better balance but I'm sure others would disagree. It makes for a lovely lunch with a gorgeous chewy crust. My coworkers had the turkey panini and the cheeseburger. They cleaned their plates and were still talking about their food when we finished up for the day at the airport. My boss said he's coming back with his wife. I know I'll be back too! read more

I've visited here 6 times as I fly out of PDX . The food has always been great and I have had to go sandwiches and cookies to take on my flight . A month ago I had a focaccia sandwich with chicken and on the flight I wandered where is the chicken ? 2 tiny strips . Very disappointed to be charged $17 for that . I came back in tonight for dinner and mentioned it . What I don't get was how uninterested the guy was and made no effort to do anything to make up for it . So our monthly Foodie Folx group chose Bistro 23 for this months dinner night out. This was a fabulous choice. This restaurant is off Airport way, so it is a very busy lunch location. We had dinner there on a Friday night, and there was plenty of tables available. Let's start off with the food. I had the pork chops. Probably one of the best I have ever had. It was cooked just right. Another one of the Foodie Folx ordered the Vodka Pie Pizza, she loved it. The Beet salad was also a very big hit. I of course had the tiramisu for dessert. Excellent. The service is very good. You order at the counter, and they bring out to your table. Oh I want to mention that the Penicillin cocktail is excellent. read more

Wow! Was not expecting this. A group of four of us were trying to find a quick dinner before heading home from the airport. We all like really fresh good food, but figured we would have to settle for a heavy not so healthy meal with french fries. Which we all love but try to avoid. We had the freshest meal. We got the green pizza, the green goddess salad, the carrots, the polenta and the cabbage -side dishes for us all to share. Visited with a friend since it's in the neighborhood. There is lots of indoor seating. Prices aren't too bad. I honestly wasn't a fan of the food. The vodka pizza was lacking some flavor or salt. The cold mozzarella was all over the pizza and made it cold. The ragu was not very rich and satiating. You could tell that it was packed with veggies. I don't think I would get either of these again. This place is awesome and super close to the airport. It's a great pre-boarding meal or a welcome back to Portland meal after you have landed. The grilled cheese has a crunchy crust and is perfect for dipping in the tomato soup! The ham sandwich has the right amount of kick with jalapeños and the creaminess of avocado! We were visiting Portland for a few days and happened to find Bistro 23 and we are so glad we did! The food was absolutely amazing, every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We ordered the Brick Chicken and Bolognese. You can truly tell they care about quality. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel completely welcomed even though we were just visiting from out of town. If you're in Portland, Bistro 23 is definitely a must-visit. Having driven by Bistro 23 countless times, I was happy to be able to finally stop in. The best part of the visit was the friendliness of the staff, but the experience is a bit weird. Each table is numbered, and you place your order and pay at the counter before you're seated. After you've ordered, they assign you to a numbered table, and point to where it is. Seems weird to tip before you're served, especially with this sort of twist on fast food table service. The food itself was OK. Nothing noteworthy, but nothing particularly bad. Portion size is small. Bottles of water are provided, presumably to prevent staff from having to keep an eye out and bring water to patrons (convenient, yes). Interior is bright and clean, but noisier than expected (loud patrons at another table). If you're in the neighborhood, it's worth stopping in, but I'd not go out of my way for a return visit. read more

On our way back to our hotel, we decided to pick up some dinner so we wouldn't have to leave the hotel again. Based on yelp reviews, we decided to try Bistro 23. To be honest, when I found it, I judged this book by its cover. I probably would not have stopped if it hadn't been for the reviews. It looks more like a store front than it does a restaurant. Inside, there were some customers spread out in a large and spacious but somewhat sterile looking dining room. But she went inside to order, while I walked around with the dog outside. Pig in the Woods Pizza - 5 - Probably one of the best "Personal-size" pizzas I've ever had. The crust was tasty and not too thick. Ham was good, as were the mushrooms. The arugula on top was a bit wilted after a short drive. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but it did not hurt the quality of the pie. Caesar Salad - 5 - She was very pleased with her salad. Dressing was on the side so the lettuce didn't get soggy. Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Basil Soup Combo - 5 - She ate 1/2 hot and the other half cold, the next morning. Tiramisu - 5 - Light and fluffy! The menu is small, but they do it quite well. This is what I would call a hidden gem! This place deserves more recognition! I love their sandwiches, salads, and pizza! Service is always good, the staff is always really nice & friendly. I recently went back since I heard they put their grilled cheese & tomato soup back on the menu. It is phenomal! Just a basic grilled cheese & tomato soup but done right! This is definitely a restaurant you don't want to miss! Make time to stop by either on your way out or way into PDX as it is really close to the airport. You will not be disappointed. Our favorites are the brick chicken and the sausage and peppers pizza (we love adding pepperoni to this). Let me just say the brick chicken will be nothing like you've ever had before.....you'll be back for more! It is super delicious and it's served with buttery mashed potatoes with a perfect pinch of truffle oil. Squeeze some lemon juice on top of the chicken that's crispy on the outside and dusted with chives. We also had a red Caesar salad (so so good). They also made the best homemade cookies. read more

Great farm to table spot. Counter service, but they do check on you through. Despite how bust they were at the counter, they got us drink refills when they walked by and we didn't have to stand in line. since their menu is fresh, they do run out of things, but they were quick to let us know before we ordered anything. A pretty strong contender for the best pork chop I've ever had, and I've eaten many a pork chop. It's gotta be in the top 5. I was gnawing at the bone like a dog with no shame. My wife had the brick chicken, which she loved. We also shared the burrata, super delicious. It's a nice place, no doubt that we'll be back. Came here a few months ago and liked the place but didn't LOVE it. Last time I said the pizza crust was too thick. I don't know if it is too thick or just not a "next level" amazing crust. Not sure if the dough is hand made and fresh. Toppings are really good though. I ordered The tiramisu for dessert and they make one of the best tiramisu's I have ever had! Staff here is impressive. Very friendly and proactive, which is nice to see. Pizza came out piping hot and right to my table. They waited to bring me the dessert and brought it over as I was eating my last pizza slice! I didn't have to ask or go to the counter, they kept an eye on me and brought it at the right time! Good food and a staff that has attention to detail! This is one of my favorite hidden gems. Casual atmosphere and the service here has always been amazing! The staff is welcoming and the food is always prepared fresh! Even their pick up orders do not disappoint! I pre ordered a meal for pick up, arrived about 5 min before my pick up time and my food was just finishing up being prepared. I had ordered a grilled a cheese and thought maybe it would be a bit soggy (as most pick up places have the food done fast and sitting), but mines was hot, fresh and toasty. I've been trying to make it out to Bistro23 for a while now, ever since I noticed it driving home from the store sometime last year. I looked it up on Yelp, liked what I saw for both menu and interior décor, and tried to make it happen several times, almost always on a Sunday morning...when they're closed. The timing never seemed to work out, until this last Saturday. My wife was in the mood for brunch, but I managed to negotiate an early lunch (score one for the husband!), and since Bistro23 is conveniently closed to home, there was no need to wait. We rolled on over, poured over the menu, and settled on a Ham & Avo sandwich for her, the Bistro Burger for me, and to drink, an unsweetened tea for my sweetie, and a Meteor Man cocktail for the meatier man (myself)! Now, I will judge you harshly, and pronounce doom and gloom on any place that can't make a decent burger. Such (idle) threats were unnecessary here, because the Bistro Burger is top notch! It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel with exotic, pretentious and unnecessary ingredients: it simply does what a burger does best, but hitting all the succulent, savory notes expected of it - savory, juicy, robust and hearty! A perfectly cooked (medium-rare, in my case) patty, Thousand Island dressing, and all the usual offenders for toppings. It was, in all honesty, one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. If I don't ask the server for A1 steak sauce or some form of hot sauce, you know you have a winner on your hands! My wife, who had been in more of a breakfast mood, said she was pleasantly surprised at how much she enjoyed her Ham & Avo sandwich, and from the sample bite I took, I concurred. Crispy, meaty, and creamy, thanks to the avocado. She, like myself, finished her meal stuffed and content. Also, that Meteor Man cocktail was fantastic: a sort of sour-tinged twist on an Old Fashioned, which is many adjectives that I like all together in one sentence. The only odd thing I noticed about the experience was the presence of a bar (closed at the time), which seems like it would be under-utilized, since the restaurant closes no later than 8pm, any day of the week. Feels like an untapped (hah!) market there, but then again...this *is* Northeast Portland. It's not wise to be out after dark. Counter staff and servers were friendly and efficient, and the food and cocktail, all of which were fabulous, came out of the kitchen in an expected amount of time. The spacious interior steadily filled out as we dined, further confirming our assessment that this little bistro is a true neighborhood treasure. My only regret is that I hadn't made it more of a priority to check this place out sooner. Now that I know the truth, expect many more visits in the near future! read more

So we had some time to kill before we needed to pick our son up from the airport. We looked for some restaurants in the area that had good reviews. We were a little surprised to see this closed at 8 but the reviews were good and the menu looked good. We figured we had enough time to get there and enjoy a meal before they closed. We shared the pig in the forest pizza and the burrata appetizer and our son had the chicken parm sandwich. It was all very good. We were glad we made it out there. Delicious food in a casual yet elegant and modern setting - we really enjoyed our meal at Bistro23. I had the pig in the woods pizza - I would 100% get this again. Local ham had a lot of flavor and the goat cheese and arugula helped cut the fatty ones of the pork. Delicious pizza and can't recommend highly enough with words. Just get it. You're welcome. Burger was delicious as well - seasoned well and grilled a perfect medium rare. We got the last one - there's a reason they sell out. Come early to be sure you get one. Ham and Avocado sandwich really hit the spot - just enough avocado to enhance the ham, not too much to overpower it. Very well executed. I get maintenance on one of our cars at the place across the street (Double-J), and decided to meet a friend here for lunch while I was waiting for it last time. Location-wise, it's in a weird place. It's a pretty busy street, and there are no other restaurants around. However, if you are looking for something around here, don't hesitate to pop in here. They have a nice outdoor patio seating area that has a fence to insulate it a bit from the road. Service was friendly. And the food was good (not great). I come here weekly when it town. I have tried everything on the menu. Hand and avocado sandwich on baguette, hold thejalapeño. Thin sliced onion. Yummy Mayo and buttered baguette is toasted to perfection. Pizza choices with meat, ham, mushroom, pesto and arugula, Margarita pizza, and a few other choices. Wood fired. Bistro burger cooked medium with pickle aioli sauce, lettuce chopped, and thin sliced onion. Caesar salad. Loads of yummy garlic...small or large. Chicken Parmesan. Huge and tasty. Came with my mom and ordered at counter with a man that acted like he could give a rip if I was there or not. No thank you.. no appreciation or friendliness. Not a great start.. Asked for a lime wedge for the water twice, chicken came out not fully cooked and totally different than described on menu. My burger was meh at best and was charged extra charged to swap out the grilled onions for an allergy. Sent back raw chicken and asked to replace with burger to go. We were over the silliness. Including tip, $45 for two mediocre burgers with waters to drink? Nope. I can get a stellar burger elsewhere for 10 dollars, they get it right and actually act like they appreciate I walked in the door. The snob factor in any restaurant is annoying, but this little place? Please. Get over yourself. Also... hood vent in the kitchen needs to either be turned on or perhaps you need to have it looked at. Went here with some co-workers to grab some dinner recently. Got the pepperoni pizza, the pig in the woods pizza, and a Caesar salad along with some beers. Best part about this place is the friendly service and good atmosphere. The food and drinks are only okay. I've had better pizza at many other establishments as it lacked anything special and the flavor was a bit blah and the Caesar salad was nothing special either.
