Sunnyside Grill -- Cleve Ohio Run, don't walk to this hidden gem! I recently stopped at Sunnyside Grill in Cleve Ohio , and this place absolutely delivered. The menu is simple, the portions are HUGE, the prices are right, and most importantly--the food is done right. I went with the Bourbon Glaze Burger, a 12-ounce burger cooked medium-rare, with crinkle-cut fries. At $13, the burger comes with chips, but for just a couple extra bucks I upgraded to the fries. That burger was massive--I could barely finish it! And I left completely full and very happy. My wife ordered the Turkey Reuben, swapping the sauerkraut for coleslaw, along with crinkle-cut fries. Another generous portion and absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Maria, was fantastic. She was super friendly, made some great recommendations, and you can tell she really knows the place. Maria has been there for 14 years, while the restaurant itself has been around for 21 years under the same owners. That says a lot! The restaurant was crowded when we visited, but not completely packed, and the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. If you're looking for a place with huge portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, and no need for a complicated menu, Sunnyside Grill is worth checking out. For my $13 12-ounce burger, I got way more food than I expected--and that's exactly the kind of hidden gem I love finding. Run, don't walk! Stopped here for lunch today. I had the Turkey Rueben. I swapped out the sauerkraut for coleslaw. My side was French fries. The sandwich came with a huge helping of very good, tender roasted hot turkey, thousand island and a creamy coleslaw. The portion was huge. Our server Maria was very friendly. On a Saturday morning at about 11:30 am, the place was hopping. From the crowded parking lot, it looked like it was going to be a long wait. We found a parking spot, stood in line for 5-10 minutes, and were seated to a clean table. The turnover here is quick. It's a one room, one floor, cream building with not much fanfare- at the corner of Harrison Ave. it seats about 70 people. The waitresses were busy but patient and kind. The kitchen window is constantly busy with orders clipped to an old style spinner and taken in order. Cookies to go are available 2/$3.00. A dessert menu is handwritten and lit up on the wall. No soup available on the weekends, but plenty of home style breakfast and lunch options. We each ordered the western omelet with a choice of white, rye and wheat bread. It was a long wait- 45 minutes- but definitely came at a peak time. The food was delicious and enough for 3 meals. read more

Cute little cafe style eatery. Everything looked good. I ordered the Chi-Body Burger and my husband ordered the 513. Servers were nice and the cooks were pushing out food and working hard. The portions here are huge! I love it. The burger was good - lots of ham and bacon. I really liked how the ham was cooked on the griddle before being added to the burger. The biggest piece of advice I can give when you go to Sunnyside is: go hungry! The portions are huge, delicious and easily shareable. It's the perfect hole in the wall brunch spot. I've tried the Southwest Burger and Smelvin and would definitely get both again. I'm always able to go home with leftovers for later. read more

We've been meaning to try this place for years - like since it opened. We just got around to it and had a great breakfast/brunch. First off, I feel like the portions are enormous. It's not a "cheap" greasy spoon type diner, but it's a very good one and worth the price (in my opinion). We ordered the followed: The Melvin (small - to share with 2 people) Pancakes (to share) Breakfast burger Omelette with Goetta (comes with home fries and toast) The food is simple, but tasty. The Smelvin was so good. It has all the meats and is tossed with scrambled eggs and home fries. It was very good and even better with hot sauce on top. The pancakes were light and fluffy - just like I enjoy them. We shared them so we could all enjoy a bit of "sweet" with out meal. The breakfast burger was enormous. It would easily be 2, maybe 3 meals for a person. I can't get over how large it was and it was piled with breakfast toppings - tons of them. The omelette was generously filled with meat and was larger than I expected giving it just had meat and cheese in it. My husband had no problem crushing it. This place is busy. There's only 2-3 servers for the whole place and despite how small it is, they pack in tables and seating. If you come at a peak time - 11am - 12pm - expect to wait a bit. But it's worth the wait and usually it's only like 15 minutes. Table move quickly in here. If you like your coffee piping hot, you will appreciate this coffee. Someone walks around periodically refilling mugs too which is nice. A couple of things that kept me from giving 5 stars. We asked for waffle fries with it, but got regular fries. They were so busy though that we never got a chance to get it corrected. They forgot our toast and we had to request it and I had ordered jalapeños, but by the time the server remembered to bring them, I was finished eating. No biggie, but it's the little things. This place is no frills. The staff works VERY hard and they are friendly. It's a simple restaurant that serves quality food. I would definitely come back. read more

Double cheeseburger is humongous (not Fat Smitty humongous, just your average humongous), Smelvin is packed with flavor, deserts are delicious. It's just plain good cooking. Service was terrible from top to bottom. We waited at least an hour for our food. Another table decided to leave due to the wait, we'd thought about it at that point. The staff found it more important to huddle and talk about the customer than bring our food or fill drinks. One of our coffee mugs reeked of cleaner. The one cup of coffee we each received was very weak. My food was not hot or fresh. To top it off the waitress brought our check right after she brought the food. They obviously need an attitude adjustment and more staff. We got the message and didn't let the door hit us on the way out! read more

Checked the pics on Yelp and saw that his was a small greasy spoon. The decor isn't great which makes the place look kind of grungy so we decided to get carry out instead. Actually I'm glad I did though because the place was packed and there was a wait for a table. The menu had a lot of good things to choose from. I couldn't decide between ordering breakfast or lunch. My husband ordered the lancer burger deluxe with fries and I ordered the lil Johnny burger deluxe with fries. The lil Johnny burger was HUGE. I didn't need the fries. Actually both of us only ate half of our burgers and saved the other half for later. So you get 2 meals out of it. We both liked what we ordered. I did think my burger was a little dry. I would have preferred to have the fries at least a little bit crispy. They were not. I do like the pickles they use on the burgers. Overall it was a good experience. I love patronizing local establishments and have been here many times , however today's visit has made me a non believer! Waited 40 minutes for 2 eggs and ham while larger and later orders were served. Wait staff busy to a point of complete non attentiveness. Fries potatoes masquerading as "hash browns" were full of mold spots ! I know this is a west side fav. but until more attention is given to better food prep and customer service this is on my " no fly" list! read more

The food portions are enormous. It's just like eating at home with the family in the kitchen. The sights and sounds are different than you'd see in a normal restaurant. Normal family kitchen conversations can be heard in the dining room. The food is yummy I'd like to try something else next time. The waitress just goes around with a baby on her hip, just like home. Sweet as can be. She was quick with refills. It's a little independent place. The prices aren't bad at all. It's a small diner with pretty much seating. I had a burger with a grilled cheese on both sides. My daughter had the Cincinnati chili three way. She's a skyline fan and she really enjoyed theirs. Our food looked so good she had to try ours too. We were very pleased we stopped in here for brunch. Everything we ordered was delicious and well prepared. The Melvin was just ridiculously good, and I'll know to order the small next time. The only issues that are causing this to not be a raving 5 star review, are not being open for dinner and not serving pancakes after 11 AM. We come in after church and the kids want pancakes, but the waitress was pretty adamant that the cut off is 11. I'd like to try a burger, but at dinner time not brunch.
