we had Easter brunch (2024) at this restaurant. Three of us ordered the Eggs Benedict. All 3 entrees were cold with congealed sauce atop English muffins that I couldn't cut with a knife. I finally gave up on that effort. The waiter took all 3 plates back to the kitchen for us. The kitchen staff reheated the Eggs Benedict in the microwave! So we then had hot, overcooked eggs, rock hard Hollandaise sauce with a wilted side salad. It was the worst food I've had in a restaurant in maybe forever! One member of our party who ordered the basic ham dinner received it shortly before we were ready to leave. Our server was friendly & competent but a little distracted. This place is a disorganized mess. My husband and kids took me there for Mother's Day this year, not knowing I had been there once before and found it..... wanting. But I will focus my comments on this visit. We were ushered into a cavernous back room that had the ambiance of a cigarette tray the morning after a late night party. The table cloths were all a different shade of faded black, the chair my husband sat in collapsed under him due to a disconnected leg, the menu was limited for Mother's Day yet still they were out of some of the options, the food was mediocre and plated like an 8 year old was in charge, and we had to ask for utensils. This place is soo good! We were seated right away but there are only a few tables inside so call ahead of time! We started with fried pickles and they were great. The sauces that came with it were really tasty. I also really enjoyed the shrimp risotto and it came with a decent amount of shrimp. It was a really big portion as well. The bistro burger had the right amount of smoke to it and they cooked the patty perfectly. The lobster roll was on the expensive side. Overall, this is a great place and I would recommend! read more

If I could put a zero on this place I would rate it that way. We have been there 3 different times. The first time the server was almost non existent. Eventually we got served but it took forever and the place was not crowded. Maybe it's hard to get (good) help. In fairness the food was OK. The third and last time that we will ever go there was a blow out. A nice girl from Australia came over to us and greeted us. We ordered our food and a glass of wine for both of us. When she returned with our wine we were flabergasted at the miniscule pour of the wine. Please understand, we eat out all the time and understand how wine is poured. It was so bad, I sent mine back with the waitress and didn't accept it. Not wanting to make a scene my wife kept hers, although she said it was probably two sips and gone. When I heard the female bartender mocking us to her customers in a loud voice, I was incensed. I told my wife that we were out of there. Instead of trying to understand me, she came over and stated that her bar manager made her give the kind of pour that she gave us. My wife took one sip of her wine and we left. The bar tender came back and let me pay for my wife's crappy pour!!! We went next door to Johnny's Tavern and had a great dinner with an acceptable pour. Try that instead of Bistro 63. read more

Love this light, innovative new American pub!!! Nice ambience for group, for date, even for one person. We got mango salad to share, which was refreshing but the mango salsa was a little generic. I wish it could be Thai-inspired sliced mango with lime-flavored salad. I ordered eggs Florentine - so well done! The poached eggs can't be softer. The focaccia bread is an interesting twist of the English muffin original. The best thing is the house fries - diced potatoes were not greasy and so rich in flavor!!!! My friends seemed to have enjoyed their salmon and tuna too. Can't speak to them but the presentation looked great. read more

Dollar oysters and tasty Irish coffees? Yup, we left happy campers. I came here about a month ago when the weather was still beautiful and we took advantage of their great back deck. It was probably around 4:00 or so and we were seated right away. Everyone from the hostess to our waitress was really friendly and knowledgable of the menu. I usually would never order off of the menu (I just know from experience what a headache it can be for the waitstaff) but we just were really craving some Irish coffees. The waitress didn't even blink an eye. A few minutes later, we were sippin' so hot, spiked bevvies. I loveeeeee oysters. Anytime I see them on the menu, especially on the happy hour menu, I always get at least a half dozen. My boyfriend, unfortunately does not share my unwavering passion for the mollusks so I was going at them alone. We also got the sea cakes and the calamari. Both amazing. I would definitely recommend. Shoot for happy hour, 4-6 every day, so you also can get in on the $1 oyster steal. read more

This. Place. Was. Fun. I honestly did not expect the jambalaya to be good. I'm in Western MA so I kept my expectations low and just asked for hot sauce on the side. That was one seasoned dish. Very happy with that and the Dirty Girl IPA. My partner said his burger was great and loved the cheddar jack. I had a taste of his "Rye Me to the Moon," and it was quite the Spring cocktail. We were visiting UMASS Amherst and needed to get a bite to eat before we drove home. We picked up some burgers (Bistro and Chèvre) and the vodka penne pasta. Everything was really good and each had a Bistro-63 twist to it. The combination of bacon, goat cheese and tomato jam on the Chèvre burger was a tasty combination. The Bistro burger was equally good. Even the hand cut creme has fries had a zesty herb flavoring that added another dimension of flavor. I would definitely recommend and go there again if I was in town. read more

We went in around 430, after an orientation at Amherst College for possible applicants, like my granddaughter. There was essentially nobody there but the waitress was wonderful. The food was excellent but particularly good was the New England clam chowder. Even better however were the fries perhaps the best I've ever had. The three of us like there was so much we took a second order home to use as a late night snack tonight. Unless my granddaughter gets into and decides to go to Amherst, I doubt that I, a Californian, will ever return. And then again maybe it's worth taking a cross-country trip just to get another order of fries. read more

Had lunch with three coworkers there yesterday. Food was fine. It took 15 minutes to get our three "mock tails ". Only one other table in the restaurant. Too long, especially for a lunch hour. The thing that stood out most is being informed by the waitress that they have a "Rolling kitchen system ". Hmm I have never heard of that. She said the food is served as prepared, because the kitchen is so small. As someone with restaurant experience, my coworkers asked me what that is. My response was a lazy kitchen. Burgers came out first, then fries, then soup. A restaurant that cannot manage to serve all entrees, in full, hot and at the same time, well that is just bad management. Bistro 63 is lovely inside. It has a cozy, elegant atmosphere and I truly appreciated that they had live music. Music goes a long way in setting a nice ambiance and not enough restaurants do it. We came for the oyster Happy Hour (which is a total $ steal) and these were legitimately the largest, most flavorful oysters I've ever had. Ugh, I get emotional just thinking about it. They were that good. The service here, while well-intended, is glacial slow. We ordered our first drink and it came out after we finished our appetizers. We were having a nice time so we decided to get a second round of the same drink. It didn't come until after our entrees when we were waiting for our check. We had been there for a long time. This was so bizarre to me-- we had totally forgotten about the second drink. Why would they bring it right as we're trying to leave? When we informed the server, she took (1) of the (2) drinks off the menu, but only because, albeit its lateness, it was made wrong. We literally left 2 full drinks on the table. That felt wasteful and odd to me. Overall, we *might* be back. The oysters were pretty spectacular, but next time, we'd have to block out at least 2+ hours for dinner in order to plan for the slowness and we won't order drinks. read more

We were a party of four adults. Two of our meals came out in a reasonable time, then our friends meals came out 20 minutes later. When we asked our server for their meals, she responded, " the meals are brought to the table as they are prepared." The burgers are small, no garnishes. Never again. It's not the worst place, but there are many, many better. Not acknowledged for a while at the door. Food was very oily. We barely touched our dinners and no questions were asked - they obviously know already why we didn't eat them. Beer was good, shrimp risotto was a bowl of oil with rubbery shrimp and mushy risotto. I was with two people, one of them had a burger and said it "ok". The other had a sandwich with bread that was only partially toasted. Who does that? Atmosphere is cool, bathroom is interesting (two toilets, clearly not private enough to be used at once, shared toilet paper?). Staff seemed distracted/disinterested but not rude. Bistro 63 is missing out in a great opportunity. They are 1 of only a few places open for a sit-down lunch in Amherst and could really capitalize on this if the menu was better. No salad or chips or fries with sandwiches. Prices a bit much for what you get. Dinner with friends the other night was slow, orders messed up and we had to wait even though we had a reservation. Then seated by the bathrooms. If anything better opens, they are doomed! This place is a last resort. Dine at your own risk. read more

There was somebody playing a loud game on their phone, and even though there were several empty tables outside, we were pressed to leave. A very strong 4 star rating is the first thing I would say about Bistro 63. The atmosphere was classy and classic. Bistro 63 is nicer than what you would expect in a college town. The cuisine was upscale American with grill options you would expect plus some nice risotto dishes. My daughter, who is a vegan, had vegan pasta primavera that was delicious. I had the seafood risotto that was equally as good. There were more than a few other items on the menu I would have gone for. There was a very good wine and beer selection as well as some interesting cocktails and spirits. I had a great High West bourbon to start and a glass of Italian rose with my meal. Service was friendly and top notch. I did not make a reservation but was seated quickly and I was well taken care of. I would recommend a reservation on a busy night however and I thought myself lucky. Prices were typical of a higher end place. Bistro 63 featured quality ingredients, good presentation and value was also delivered. I would be happy to go to Bistro 63 at The Monkey Bar again and I recommend it. read more

This is the first time in my life writing a review with the hope to save another person from a terrible experience that I endure. This restaurant was the worst food experience in my life. My partner and I ordered salad and two burgers, I wanted mine well done and he wanted his medium rare. Both burgers were dry. It was burned with no flavor. Normally, a burger comes with lettuce and tomato, side of pickle and fresh fry. The burgers only came with a piece of lettuce. The server acknowledged and apologized that the burgers didn't appear appealing, yet we were charged a full amount for them. This Restaurant is very easy to find. There's parking on the street, and you can find some in the back as well. To me, the vibe is casual upscale. Chris is the bartender tonight and he was very friendly. And pretty busy. I did wait a few minutes longer than I thought for my risotto, but it was well worth it! The drink menus are extensive. The seafood looks very fresh. There's outdoor seating in the back. My risotto was really good. The smoked Gouda was very pleasant. The spinach was plentiful. The service is what makes this place. The menu is limited and there are some odd offerings, but if you can find something that sounds good, you'll enjoy the ambiance and service. Their cocktail menu changes frequently and their wine choices are strong. Don't be deceived by the limited seating in the front dining room. Visiting Amherst as a possible place to move to. We were wondering the streets on a Sunday afternoon and by luck, found this one. Walked in and were unsure exactly what we were expected to do and it looked like nothing. The place was busy... very busy. The servers were milling around trying so hard to take care of everybody, but ignoring us to the point of irritation. We were left standing there for a good 5 minutes before anyone ever greeted us. If there is no regular host(ess) on duty but it is your designated job, you need to drop what you're doing and take care of it. Leaving me standing and waiting to get a seat without greeting or acknowledging that I'm there, is a faux pas difficult to recover from. Finally seated we were greeted by our server Jenna. When she had time she was pleasantly conversant with us and after talking for awhile about possibly moving there she said, "I really want you guys to move here. It's such a great place to live." Now, I don't know if she was working the tip to make up for lost time or what. I guess it didn't matter because whatever she was doing it almost made it ok that we were left standing. From that point forward we were well taken care of. However, the time left standing on entering kind of lost them a star. I think we'll go back and allow them to make up for it. What I had I loved: Mediterranean Grilled Fish. They gave you a choice of Tuna, Swordfish or Salmon, and I had the tuna because there was no guarantee of the salmon being wild and it's moot because it's the east coast. Swordfish is never a good choice. I'm not sure you can get wild caught Pacific salmon there. I'll just have to investigate that. The tuna was grilled & served over organic mixed greens topped with cherry tomatoes, capers, calamata olives, feta cheese & fresh basil. All those flavors were just meant for each other and when you top it off with a nice Pinot Grigio, well, there ya have it. When we move to Amherst, and I soooo want to do that, I have a feeling this place is going to be a regular and I have every confidence they will redeem themselves. read more
