Bistro Byronz - I've heard about this establishment forever, but never visited until last week. My wife and I could not decide between the Eggplant Sticks or the Baked Feta appetizers, so we got both. The Eggplant Sticks were delicious - perfectly fried but not greasy. The Baked Feta - I wanted to put it on everything! For my entree, I had an Apple Feta Burger (subbed the turkey burger for a regular beef patty). The burger was ordered medium, and was cooked medium, which is impressive. I find burgers are typically always overcooked. The burger was one of the best seasoned patties I've ever had. The apple chutney complimented the feta cheese so perfectly on this burger. I highly recommend this entree. The service was excellent, and the environment was welcoming, with indoor and outdoor seating options as well as a bar. read more

Just had a delightful lunch at Bistro Byronz. Appreciate that they had lunch-sized portions of a number of entrées. My red fish piccata was perfectly grilled and flavorful. Take advantage of the nice weather, and dine on the patio. The indoor restaurant has a nice vibe with the wrought iron and marble tables, it feels like something from the French Quarter but much cleaner. The 3cheese chips are delicious, and I highly recommend them. Everything else on the menu is a safe bet, I have not had a meal that wasn't above average. Let me preface my review with 2 facts: 1. I waited tables for about 10 years; my husband currently waits tables part-time. 2. My friend and I were STARVING (seriously, I nearly fainted) when we arrived. So, I've been to Bistro Byronz in Baton Rouge and it's okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. My friend and I were looking for a late lunch on the Northshore and someone suggested we check out B.B. The parking lot was completely empty when we pulled up, around 4 pm. Seeing a server arrive as we did, I asked if they were open. "Yeah, we are!" was her friendly reply. We were the ONLY patrons in the restaurant and it was some of the worst service EVER. The hostess appeared to resent the fact that we were there, grimacing when we asked for a different (smaller, next to a window) table. We were told our server would be "right with us." Not true. After sitting, ungreeted (my friend did tell me that a gentleman, who appeared to be a manager, made eye contact with her and walked away) for over 5 minutes, we began to look around. I noticed about 4 servers chatting behind the bar, and a girl sweeping the floor near us with headphones on. Finally, my friend asked this girl if we could get some drinks. They have a happy hour special from 3:30- 6:30, with 1/2 price glasses of wine (which is a great deal) so we ordered with this girl and began to feel even more uncomfortable since, here we were, smack dab in the middle of their happy hour. Finally a server brings our glasses of wine; I ask for water, which does not come after several minutes, prompting me to get up for the 1st time to ask for water from the bar. (After our meals arrived, our server brought us a water carafe). Our server was friendly, smiling, and did remark something like, "Sorry, we're in between shifts..." Honestly, I don't care who's on the clock and who's not- you GREET YOUR CUSTOMERS & GET THEM A BEVERAGE! We ordered immediately and it did feel like the food took awhile to come out, considering we both ordered grilled chicken. The food was pretty good; I had the asian chicken salad (too many crispy wontons) and some fries. I honestly don't remember if we were checked on during our devouring of the food, because all the other servers had disappeared as well. At some point, an older gentleman, who seemed to be a regular, had a seat at a table and had a beer. It didn't look like he waited long... So, we ask for the check and she's prompt with its delivery. At this point, we're both exhausted at how ridiculous it is to have poor service when we're 2 of 3 patrons in the dang place and we're ready to go. We wait at least 10 minutes while our server engages in a conversation with said older-beer-gentleman before I get up for the 2nd time and nearly walk into the kitchen to find someone to run our card. I go to the bathroom and wash my hands and when I'm done, our transaction still isn't finished, so I say to the guy (and hostess who's lingering nearby) "we're over there." She actually smirked at me! Ugh. I'm so aggravated. That place was ridiculous. I know sometimes it's easier when you're busy, but customers should never feel ignored. ESPECIALLY if they're the only ones! P.S. DO NOT order the CASSOULET. I've had it in B.R. and my friend has as well. That's a stomach ache waiting to happen, and it's not even that great going in. read more

Excellent food, beverage, and ambience! Enjoyed the salmon with orzo and wilted spinach. Had to try the King cake -- delicious! Martini Tuesday was a special treat. (All martinis $3). Full bar. Easy parking on-site. Outdoor patio for fair weather dining. Gets busy between 6 and 8 pm so best to go early if possible. Service was good but a little slow as they got busier. Highly recommend. This weekend Todd and I checked out a restaurant here in Mandeville called Bistro Byronz. This place is located in the "higher end" plazas (as I like to call it) and the prices did reflect that. They were a little high for the food (almost $5 for a cup of soup) which is why I gave it 4 1/2 stars, but the food was excellent! The majority of the lunch menu was soups, salads and sandwiches which included some burgers. There were many sides to choose from like creamed spinach, fries, vegetable medley, and Zydeco pasta (I assume some kind of cold pasta side). The place is nicely decorated and classy. I was kind of disappointed there were whining kids in there. First off, why would you take your kids to a higher end bistro/bar?!? Secondly, if they are screaming and whining, leave the restaurant. Lucky for me it didn't last long. The waitress was great, very attentive and understood and explained the menu well. I started with a cup of Sweet Corn and Crab soup. This was just the right sweetness and creaminess for a soup. It came out quickly and hot too. For lunch I ended up with the Jr. Shrimp Louie for $8.95 with the 7 grain oat bun. I was happy they offered a Junior size. The regular size was only a dollar more but I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it all. The shrimp was sauteed and then a creamy cajun dressing was added. It was like a higher end po' boy. The bread to filling ratio was perfect. Usually when I order a po'boy it's more bread than shrimp and kinda sucks. This one wasn't. Another good thing about it was I thought it'd be a big mess to eat, but it wasn't! I think this is another plus to the bread to filling ratio. Todd ordered the ByReuben, their take on the traditional Reuben sandwich. He also got the 7 grain oat bun, which was odd to us because it didn't come with the traditional bread for a Reuben, but he said it worked well and tasted great! Overall, our experience here was pretty good. I would definitely come back again. Maybe I'll save up some money and come during dinner! LOL. So I end this post with Bistro Byronz receiving 4 1/2 stars out of 5! Excellent restaurant! read more

We went for lunch. Very cute place and service was good but they weren't very busy. I had the shrimp corn soup. It was disappointing (watered down). Hubs had pot roast and said it was good. I had steak sandwich. It was a bit messy but tasted good. I was shocked they charged $1 EXTRA for rosemary frites. They had no rosemary and tasted like frozen fries. $49 lunch with tip included. Had a lovely dining experience at Bistro Byron's last night. The wait staff was as polite and accommodating as one could ask for. The steaks were cooked to perfection and arrived at the table at the perfect temperature. The baked potato was also cooked perfectly. Also had their strawberry bread pudding, which all I can say is YUMMY! This was my first time visiting their restaurant and will defy be back soon. Recently my husband and I dined at Bistro Byron. All the food was edible but lacked seasonings and flavor. We asked for hot sauce to flavor our food. It was much needed. We were stuck in the corner and it seemed like we have to constantly flag down our waitress for refills and anything else we needed. Our waitress gave us a dessert menu consisting of desserts and dessert drinks. We decided on having a dessert drink. While the restaurant was not closed at that time, the bar was shutting down and our waitress told us we couldn't have anything from the bar. I think management should take the drinks off the menu if they are not available because it is 10:05. I think highly rude to be moping and sweeping the restaurant when you have patrons still dining at whoever's restaurant. No plans to return. read more

We were looking for a place to eat outdoors for lunch on Saturday & this place was perfect! We had a blueberry freeze drink which was delicious for only $5. The blue cheese chips were delicious! My one single complaint, is that the menu shows the salmon dish being served with scalloped potatoes. But when the food arrived, I got mashed potatoes with wayyyyyyyy too much cheese on top. Well where do I begin. Husband and I have been coming here for years. Always been good, food and drink wise. I do feel there has been a slight decline drink quality wise. Well after tonight, sadly will be our last. After ordering the same exact thing for years tonight things changed. I always order seared tuna salad rare, with a side of wasabi cream or wasabi dressing... first there was a .25 cent charge for dressing. Then husband gets vodka double on the rocks, literally everywhere we go. Upscale, to hole in the wall places. Have never seen a "rocks" charge of $1.00 anywhere. Not at commanders palace, not at hole in the wall places, oh and never at this place until now? Wow. Not so much about the money but seems stingy. Apparently that was because they supposedly pour a bigger liquor shot then a regular and that's the reason for the charge. Stated some staff member. I had lunch in there today, and the music was so loud I could not hear the person seated next to me. We asked for the music to be turned down twice to no avail. They tell you okay, but nothing changes. The chairs are very hard wood with almost no back to lean back on; the seats have an oval around them that cuts the circulation off in your legs. The food and service are both good. The headache you get is free. They have seen the last of me. read more

With "Bistro in the name, I was expecting a small, quaint and preppy establishment. Turns out the only thing "Bistro about it are it's seating. Tables and chairs are what one would expect. The staff were all very accommodating and we were seated immediately. Good thing we (Me and co-workers) go to lunch early. The place was standing room only by noon. I can understand why. The food is exquisite. The menu has lunch portion and pricing. I ordered the Redfish Almondine. It came with asparagus and potatoes. Just enough for lunch, and the taste was phenomenal. The wait staff were attentive without hovering and I believe either the owner or the manager checked on our table several times. Wasn't clear on who and/or what role he played but he was extremely friendly and accommodating. They have a full bar and actually had drink specials, namely specialty martinis. If I didn't have to go back to work I definitely would have thrown back a few. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area for lunch, but go early. We pass the place nearly every evening and cant help But notice the full parking lot. Tonight we were passing and noticed a light crowd so we decided to give it them a try. Food was delicious, drinks were very good and the wait staff was personable. Atmosphere is also very nice. Albeit a bit noisy. I cant imagine the noise in there with a full house. I had the lemon chicken. It was served in a bowl with a smaller piece of chicken breast on top. The dish was delicious however it was just about t a lunch size serving. The wife had the artichoke patties with shrimp. This dish hit all the marks and was outstanding. We had the creme brûlée for desert. The taste was very good. The custard was not set and again the serving size was less than expected. It is served in a small ramekin and filled less than half full with the custard. Probably about a 1/3 of the spoon deep. I get the fine dining perspective. However, i want to feel like i ate dinner when i push away from the table. Not lunch. We will Likely try them again with all of the high reviews. read more
