Came in after a doctors appointment. I ordered a shrimp salad and there was only 3 shrimp in my salad. I was very disappointed.

Highly Recommend Bridget and Her Amazing Soups at the Wine Market! If you haven't been to the Wine Market yet, do yourself a favor and go -- and when you do, make sure to see Bridget! She is not only welcoming and knowledgeable but the food she serves, especially the soups, is next-level delicious. Every single soup I've tried has been a hit -- absolutely flavorful and comforting, with the crawfish pepper jack being a standout favorite. It's rich, perfectly spiced, and completely addictive. The chef at this location is clearly talented -- the steaks are amazing, and I honestly don't think I've had a single item I didn't love. Whether it's red beans, fish specials, or her daily creations, everything has been consistently delicious. Bottom line: don't sleep on Bridget's soups. 3 stars is for Ambiance and food, NOT service. First time patron and went for Thursday steak night. Starts at 6pm-9pm. As a single 49 yr old male, I sat at the bar knowing nothing of this establishment. First and foremost I would consider this a Bar w/food, NOT a restaurant with a bar (big difference). Bar top sat approx 15-20 and your back is against the rest of the establishment. The clientele is Upper middle class, all dressed nicely and TONs of regulars as the pre-dinner crowd knew everyone's name that worked there and vice versa. Approx age is Upper 50's to mid 60's on average... with a sprinkle of upper 40's. Being that there was approx 4-5 bartenders slinging drinks, this place was PACKED. Kudos to Fallon and Erika who assisted me and they were super polite and accommodating. I arrived at 6:05pm sat at the bar and one of the 5 lady bartenders stated it wasn't busy... saw a few bar top chairs still available. I ordered the Prime Filet dinner (medium) as the ladies stated the chef tends to undercook them just a tad bit, loaded baked potato and a import beer. I received my steak dinner at 7pm and by this time every seat was taken and people are hovering over me trying to squeeze in between the bar chairs to buy drinks or pay thier tabs. The food: I did order medium expecting to have a light pink center yet i got an all grey center and it was on the dry side. I did tell Fallon my waitstaff, yet stated I'm not returning it and it will be fine to eat. The potatoe came on the plate wrapped in tinfoil and piping hot. The shredded cheese and bacon came in small plastic containers; something I was not expecting for a 30 dollar Steak dinner plate; to have to make/dress my own potatoe. The ambiance: it is a smaller establishment with bar top tables, regular tables, and couch type seating with coffee tables... perfect for a Wine bar or just a bar w/bar food in general yet not for a restaurant in my opinion. It was severely crowded with less than elbow room. Very loud with just all the conversations yet around 7:15pm they turned on the music from above which just made it even louder and honestly was trying to eat faster just to get outta there. It was so packed/busy that I felt like I was back in my mid 20's out with friends at our first bar pre-gaming until the night clubs opened up. Service: I'll describe it as CONTROLLED CHOAS, but I'm a POSITIVE way. Fallon was my main server/bartender and she was awesome. I explained it was my first time and she showed me both menus; regular menu as well as the steak night menu and gave me recommendations for the steak to choose. Fallon always kept checking on me to see if I was good with my beer and if I needed anything and a few times Erika was also there checking on me. I don't know how those ladies do it, yet 4-5 of them behind the bar taking care of everything was short of amazing. I do not know what it is like for lunch or non steak night... so I'm sure it can be different. read more

Called ahead to ensure they had the space to host our company happy hour. They were happy to help and accommodate. I just feel like I should have been told that they were hosting an event that same night. It hindered service, staff friendliness, and just the overall experience. Everyone's food came out at different times. Waitstaff forgot to take orders from half of the table. And I could sense the bartenders were overwhelmed as they were not too happy to serve us. I only ordered a sandwich & glass of wine, not expecting much, but this was the BEST Club Sandwich I've ever eaten! And it's truly enough for 2 people. And I always go back and order the same! The Potato Salad that comes with it is fabulous! It's very homemade tasting! And I had wine at lunch, & it was very reasonably priced for a glass of wine (maybe $6 ?). Very lovely lunch place. The wine is decent, but don't get the food. Their "toast points" are packages of Captains Wafers. Their cheese plate consists of cheap cubed cheese that I suspect is really just prepackaged a Kraft or another grocery store cheese. The mushrooms are rubbery. The service is also subpar; it took over thirty minutes to get that prepackaged cheese! read more

Bridget and Erica mix awesome cocktails as well as pour great wine. The Wine Market is a beautiful place with great sandwiches, great atmosphere and great live bands. It's also got the best and most extensive selection of beer and wine in the area, hands down. I'm a big fan of chicken salad and the chicken salad here on croissant is really good. The crab stuffed mushroom appetizer is delicious as well. The owner, Doug Reker, is nice and personable. I really dislike people who are phony and he is the real deal. If you're a newbie to wine or beer, any questions you may have are answered honestly and with zero judgment. Overpriced, sort of crappy food on the dinner menu. Good prices for happy hour and fun-looking nightly specials and live music. I had a shrimp and spinach salad that would have been better had I made it at home. I think it was like $12 or something. Ky had an obviously frozen hamburger that was dry dry dry and also over priced. I noticed some people ordering off the appetizer menu (also waaaay pricey) who ended up with teensy tiny portions. It's dinner time on a weekend night and The Wine Market is about 65% full. We walk in and are immediately greeted by hostess. We survey the interior and notice that while the overall ambiance is nice it lacks a certain something. There are a few sofas padded with fringe pillows (she says: pillows = germs) which create intimate nooks for cuddles (no one was using) and the overall lighting is a little confusing. It's way too dark in some areas and light fixtures are not above the oddly staggered wine-cask tables. There are no decorations or candles on the table to help with the inability to read the menu. She says "Some candles on the tables would really add to the experience". The tall tables have bar height chairs which makes it difficult to get your legs under the table. Counter height chairs would provide a much more comfortable sitting experience. He says (as he man spreads) " It really limits leg room." She says (as she sits sideways with legs crossed) " Why yes it does!" There are nails and holes in the walls that could be patched and/or painted to give it a sprucing up. The mural over the door doesn't extend across the wall which leaves a very unfinished look. He said "I really thought that I was in a french winery when I looked at that mural." She said " ummmmm...what?" The bourbon selection is way more extensive than the wine list which confused both of us. We both say "WE LOVE BOURBON..... but we are in The Wine Market", which made us wonder why such emphasis on the bourbon. Is it because men drink bourbon and women drink wine? Stereotypical, I know, but we are searching for a rationale. Also, with that extensive bourbon selection, why not give descriptions of each, where they are from, and what food each one pairs well with? He says "The owner must love bourbon. It is an absolutely amazing selection." She says "The customers must drink bourbon." The bar area is very messy with lots of the bartenders personal items hiding the labels of the liquor, ATC and permits are just taped to the wall instead of in frames, as well as bar rags and silverware strewn about, and wow...the amount TV's playing sports of all kinds. He says. "No one is watching the TV's." She says "That's because we aren't in a sports bar." Also, He says "We can see straight into the kitchen from where we are sitting." She says "At least it looks really clean!" We had a few dirty martinis which were sadly...served in highball glasses. He says "There is a delicacy and refinement that drinking out of a martini glass provides and a highball glass does not" She says (with a little side-eye but agreeing) "You're so boujee." But, the martini was a perfect temp with no chips of ice, the olives were fresh, the ratio of vodka to olive juice was exceptional, and the slight hint of vermouth gave the exact amount of balance needed. The bartender was fantastic, attentive, and quick! We didn't eat this time, but we've eaten here before and the menu is decent but the wine list is smaller than we would expect since we are at The Wine Market. Recommendations: He says "Details, details, details. Look at the seams on the lampshades and face them away from the diners, refine the display of licenses/permits, prioritize adjusting the lighting, chairs, varying table heights, painting the walls, placement of beer cooler (that subtly has a sign on it that reads "Employees Only", adjust the music so it can be heard, and beef up the wine menu." She says "Choose an identity. The mix of low light with all of the TV's makes me wonder if I should snuggle and drink wine for romance or drink beer and yell at the TV while my team loses a game. Ditch the TV's unless specifically requested by a customer. They are off-putting and don't add a thing to the environment. If I want TV, I'll go to Hooters. Decide if you're a wine market or a sports bar. If you're a wine market, can I get a pairing list? Imagine I am a wine newbie and I have no idea what you have or what I should eat / drink together. Help me out here!! And while its perfectly great to show off the various selections of bourbons, why isn't there any wine being displayed for customers to enjoy all of the lovely labels? There is a small wine cooler but it isn't inviting and I would have no idea what I'm looking at. We like The Wine Market for its psuedo-refinement and that it offers something very different than the majority of Slidell. But, every time we visit we are saddened by the missed potential and lack of attention to detail . read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch with a friend. We each got a wrap, and we're both extremely pleased. Food was terrific and the service was great! Will definitely come back for dinner! A side note, I have purchased wine from the store in the past. The staff is so knowledgeable. If you aren't sure what you want, they can recommend. Had a great night at the Wine Garden. From the drinks, to the appetizers and entrees... everything was delicious. An odd experience. We walk in for steak night thinking it's a restaurant - its not really quite a restaurant experience. There is no hostess station so u walk into a sea of tables. Someone told us just sit anywhere after we stood there awhile. There was 1 menu on a 4 top table....I had to give my partner my iphone flashlight so he could read the menu. The waitress came over and I asked for a menu and she acted like 1 menu was enough for us - lol. The menu is finger food - not a full restaurant menu. We didn't know that it wasn't a full service restaurant. But, we ordered steaks - the fillet and the ribeye. My filet wasn't cooked properly - too rare, although flavorful. I could have sent it back, but I don't like to recook a steak once it comes off the grill. His ribeye was cooked properly. I had a glass of house merlot and thought it was good. The wait staff was inattentive, not particular welcoming and acted like we should know how the Wine Market operated - not a full service restaurant, doesn't explain the specials and the pricing, doesn't give a couple of menu's - just odd actually. The atmosphere is nice with a qualification - it seems confused as to what it is - it's sorta an intimate wine bistro which is nice, but then they have tacky posters above the eye sight line - JUST DON'T PUT CRAP ON THE WALL - the architecture is nice enough that u don't need tacky and cheap hanging on the wall just to have something hanging. BTW it seems, although I'm not exactly sure that the food is cooked outside at a grill rather than a kitchen - again I'm not exactly sure, but that's what it seems. Again, kinda confusing about what this place is. I can assure you that if you go in for wine and bar snacks it would be a nice place for that. Beyond that it's confusing. Pricing was only ok....not a deal, but I didn't feel it was horribly overpriced. read more

My boyfriend and I met up with some friends last night for "Steak Night." It was soooo good! The steaks were to die for! We met the owner and he was a doll! House chardonay was delicious as well. We ordered the pinwheels, spinach dip and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers... cannot go wrong! SO AMAZING. The dip was actually a favorite and we labeled it as one of the best we have EVER had. I ordered a glass of wine and did not care for it too much. I asked to exchange it for a different wine. The second glass was just okay, but I didn't feel like going through their list so I drank that one, well half of it. The music was a little loud and the genre didn't appear to really go with a wine bar. So at this point, you're probably wondering why I gave it such a high rating... the burgers were AWESOME!! One of the best I've had in a long time. Additonally, the staff was very friendly and although the owner was outside grilling the burgers himself, he did greet us and even chatted for a while.
