Read the reviews and still decided to go because although most of the negatives revolved around the service, most said the food was quite good. And they were right - concerning the food. I'm a vegetarian and my pasta was very good and flavorful. My wife isn't a vegetarian and her pasta and salmon was also very good. As to the service, we were armed with our Kindles in case we had a longer wait but never had a chance to crack them. Our server, although not the friendliest, was attentive and our food was delivered quite promptly. In other words - no complaints. was looking for a place to eat found this place with pretty high reviews came in order drinks and lunch, my salad was just items bought from Costco (organic spring mix) put together 18$???... my girlfriends pasta was extremely salty she end up only taking a couple bites before putting it away (shrimp Alfredo). our waiter was very nice but when she came around and asked us if we needed anything i would ask for a refill or napkins she would smile and say right away. 10 mins later she would come back and ask us if everything was okay i again would ask for a refill and napkins she said sorry and she will get it right away i see her walk to the next table and ask them if everything was going good this happens twice now 25 mins later still no refill or napkins.. its as if i was talking to a robot that only knew how to greet us. eventually i had to ask the bus person who took away our dish and with out hesitation he walked in and out and got what i was asking for. service was below advantage, decor and place looks like it belongs on kitchen nightmare, food was horrible and expensive worst thing we ate in maui dont ruin your trip by stopping here.. read more

Went last night with my husband. We were seated fast. Host sat us in the back near the restroom. We ordered the ahi tempura. Which I give a 2 because lack of flavor. The wasabi which was a hard as a pebble was inedible. Terrible. We both ordered steaks. My husband had rib eye, med rare, which he enjoyed emensly. I had the New York steak which I ordered med but was well done and so tough. Did not enjoy it. We finished with an almereto creme burlee. Which was nothing special. Bistro Casanovas here on Maui is not a Mediterranean Restaurant at all. It's actually Italian with Pacific Fusion creations. Their portion sizes are out of this world. You get a huge plate for what it is worth. Remember that this is a fine dining restaurant. Their portion sizes mirror that of Da Kitchen Restaurant. I can't even finish a whole plate of food that is how much they give you. Dress semi-formal or in Aloha Attire during the Dinner time. Great restaurant with delicious food. Ate here before flying out of kahului airport. service was very friendly and prompt. Caesar salad was crisp and fresh with not too much dressing. Anchovies on the side. Linguine funghi was creamy and the mushrooms were tender while maintaining great texture. Rigatoni carbonara very rich and creamy with a slight smoky flavor from the bacon. Very delicious. Capellini checca with linguine instead. Fresh with a lovely flavor from the white wine and garlic. With fresh tomatoes! Ravioli tarfuto was excellent with a sage butter sauce that complemented the filling very well. Tasted like fresh pasta. Happy hour prices were great for half carafes of wine or cocktail. Crepes: Suzette and mistress. Both were scrumptious. Thin with a crisp edge and just the right amount of filling and alcohol! Some friends and I went to Bistro for Happy hour. We have been there a few times before and enjoyed the food and service. Last night sure was a great disappointment! They weren't even busy and service was SLOW! Waited for drinks, tapas took awhile. Then we ordered pasta from the menu, took so long!! Plus, they never brought us any bread! From my understanding, as long as you order off the menu, bread is supposed to be automatic. We've eaten here before, and never once had to add taste to our food. Man, lastnight every single one of us had to practically pour on the salt and pepper to improve the flavor of the pasta!! For the amount of $$ we spent last night, the service and poor quality and flavor of the food, we don't think we're going to be recommending Bistro anymore!! read more

This restaurant has really gone down hill in the last year. I've been coming here for years, because I could always count on the food being good, and having great service. As a regular I've noticed a change in service, and quality in food. Sadly Bistro Casanova is not what it once was. The atmosphere and feeling of aloha is no longer there, and you can feel it from the employees, and also in the food. It's bland and meaningless. I'd hate to see this restaurant loose it's credibility, considering it being one of the go to spots of Kahului. Being located in town, Bistro is the place I'd come to, to get "Wailea" quality food. This is one of the most stellar eateries on the island--and one of the classiest bars outside of the major resorts. Their tapas are fantastic, their salads solid, their creme brûlée worth every calorie. I adore the bartenders, decor, and ambience. I'd be a regular if I lived on this side. Very good food. Excellent service. We were seated promptly and our orders arrived quickly to satisfy two very hungry kids. Several vegetarian options and the portion sizes were generous. The treatment we received here was horrible. We stopped into a restaurant disguised as an office building before catching our flight home. We were met with remarks on how we were under dressed for this restaurant. Despite weak drinks in the "lounge" and a wait time of almost double what we were told, we decided to stay. After ordering, we again were left waiting for bread and water prior to our meal. I ordered a Caesar salad and specified no anchovies. The salad arrived with anchovies. To make matters worse, we saw someone dressing a table cough over the glasses he had on a serving tray before placing them on the table. The staff felt rushed to the point that our server never even introduced herself, and didn't seem to want to spend time with our table. To be fair it was a busy Friday night, but this was not hustle that you expect and appreciate from a restaurant staff. It was rushed and a poor example of customer service. read more

Didn't mind spending the extra money for full priced appetizers and drinks but the attitude of our server when we said we "were only here for apps and drinks" was a turnoff. We even told the hostess we were happy to sit at the bar but she sat us at a table. The reason for the low rating is because it took over a hour to get our food. I would understand the long wait had the restaurant been very busy or we ordered dishes that would take longer to prepare (such as the Paella which our server told us it would take 30 mins to prepare or gluten free pasta because as we were told the pasta has to be prepared separately from the other pastas) so we opted to get the veal and fettuccine so we would get our dinner quicker. When the food finally arrived at our table we couldn't decide if it was really good or that we were just very hungry. Waited 15 minutes to get water from the busboy and 20 minutes after sitting down before anyone even acknowledged us to see if we wanted anything from the bar or take our order. Although the restaurant was semi-busy, they only had four waitstaff working, who do not move with any sense of urgency. Also never received or was offered bread for the table, and the food was definitely not worth the wait - my fettuccine ossobuco was reheated in the microwave before it was brought to the table; the pasta was overcooked and cold in the center of the plate. Wife had the angel hair with shrimp, which had a good taste, but the shrimp were overcooked as well. Perhaps you will receive better service if the restaurant was not as busy, however the quality of the food is definitely not worth the wait or the price. Will not be coming back. read more

WOW! What a fabulous dining experience. We dined at this restaurant on 8/29/13, on our way to the airport which is only a 5min drive from Bistro Casanova. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. We arrived when Happy Hour was still available so started off with a Tapas of Beet Gnocchi which was colorful and tasty. Our entrees, Spinach and Cheese ravioli in truffle oil and Pasta Carbonara.....the flavors were aromatic and the taste were very pleasing. Another good thing, our bread came to the table warm with great herb butter. Rachael was our waitress and made our dining experience special. We are from Az and use to fine dining. My husband and daughter and son in law went to casanovas last night after seeing a show at the MACC theater. We made reservations and arrived on time. We were seated shortly after arrival. Once seated we waited and waited for a waiter. Finally someone came. We decided to put in our complete order since things were moving so slow. Calamari came and it was cold. Ordered margaritas and got a mojito instead sent it back and waiting forever for my drink. Kept asking what the problem was and they said they only had one bartender The bar was empty. We got there at 6:15 and we still didn't have my drink or dinner at 7:30!!! We told the manager and we just got up and left. Totally horrible experience. Bad service. Stupid manager. Won't go back. I really do love coming here . For me personally this is the only really good happy hour in central Maui. They have really awesome mojitos for 5 dollars from 4pm to 6pm. The apps are very good also I enjoy the calamari with the very good sauce it comes with. It is a little bit more upscale. I have brought my daughter but if I had the choice I would probably leave the kids at home. It's great atmosphere with good food and drinks. A good date night spot. I have been a BC fan since it opened. Today I had the worst lunch and poorest service. I had the kanaio, the meat was tough, some areas were raw, some over cooked. Alyssa the gal at the bar didn't even notice I didn't eat it, I had to bring it to her attention. The manager told her to give me 20% off...didn't bother to come out or ask if I'd like something else to eat. Sad, I really liked this place. Another pet peeve i experienced from every bar tender there was the "Do you need any change?" even when the bill was $5 and I gave a twenty. This will be based off a singular visit. We stopped in just after opening around 11 am. We were greeted with a smiling friendly staff. Seated promptly. Ambiance and overall atmosphere was nice. That's about where the good part of the experience ended. Sadly it was the food that let us down. We ordered calamari, fried artichoke, and a kula panini ( Portobello mushroom with peppers and fixings). The calamari wasn't fresh as far as I could tell. Super chewy and flavor wasn't what you desire from calamari. The artichoke hearts were tasty enough but too oily and the breading wasn't what was expected either. We ended up peeling off the breading to just eat the artichoke. Lastly the kula panini. It was actually very tasty. It alone I would rate 4 of 5. The fries with it were lack luster and super oily. Not to mention portions were small. We spent 60 some dollars and didnt even eat the calamari and picked at the artichokes. The panini was good but we left the fries behind. Overall if you plan to spend money on lunch don't see d it here. Perhaps I just had a bad experience, this was our first visit. Recently my husband let me choose a visit to another island as an anniversary gift. I chose Maui so I could return to Bistro Casanova. It dd not disappoint. In fact we went 3 times. The first time was between lunch and dinner. But we could still order their salads or small plates. I had their poached loster/ shrimp salad. Prepared beautifully with arugala, orange segments, avocado slices and fresh corn with lemon dressing. Due to medical condition I could mot partake of theor Italian wines but made do with refreshing lemonade. Our waitress was utra friendly. They were closed Sunday, but luckily we were staying until Tuesday so Monday we went for both lunch and dinner. We decided to do our heavier meal for lunch. While waiting for our friend to join us I ordered the frites , made to perfection with fresh rosemary. I had angel hair pasta with spinach and fresh tomato. No meat was necessary. My husband, a clliac, was able to have a gluten-free version of any pasta dish. We returned that evening to share the spinach side dish. So good we almost ordered it again but instead my husband had the Caesar ( best he has ever had) and I had another perfect salad. Since it was a special occasion I finished off with chocolate mousse cake. So tasty but not too heavy. If I lived on Maui I would eat here every week. read more

We stopped here on a tour for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised to find the food was NYC quality Italian. They prepared several dishes for our buffet lunch. Everything was really good. Meatballs were great, my wife 100% Italian is a great chef, she loved the meatballs, pasta, salad and bread. Venue is casual. Some local beers on tap. Spoke with the owners wife, her and her hubby moved to Maui and opened this eatery 20 years ago. If they were here on Long Island it would be my go to Italian Restaurant. YUM! read more

We arrived for our reservation and that's when things went sour. We were lead to the back room and seated next to the bathroom even though there were a handful of other tables. Whilst ordering our meals the waiter was unhelpful and snobbish. Our food arrived quickly, but we didn't get a water refill until our check came. We watched as our waiter danced around the feet of other customers and completely ignored us. Honestly the food was ok not great and I wouldn't be compelled into writing this if the customer service hadn't been so poor. We were in and out in 45 minutes and got a grand total of 5 minutes getting any sort of attention at all. If you're looking for something with an atmosphere better than a fast food joint keep looking. read more

When we went back to let them know we will wait to see if reservations might be no shows, they made us watch 3 tables sit empty for half an hour with no guarantee we would be seated. Saw some other customers having drinks while waiting for a table so approached the bartender and she told me we need to be seated first and flipped her hair and walked away. Some nice customers let us have a seat at the bar since my girlfriend was 9 months pregnant and then the bartender magically acknowledged our presence ONCE. We asked to close out our tab and we received no bill and no change. Finally got a seat and requested a bread basket with our paid meal that took another half an hour. Needless to say not going back anytime soon unless they can get their act together. read more

I have been looking for a good Italian Restaurant on Maui, and several people recommended Bistro Casanova. Eating at this restaurant was extremely disappointing! The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars is because the salads were at least average. The bread was stale, the service was marginal and the Veal Scaloppini was the worst I have ever had!!! It was under cooked, tough, and had no flavor. If I was the Owner I would either find a different Chef or General Manager, because based on my experience, I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

So happy to have found Bistro Casanova. From the minute we walked in we were warmly greeted by both the manager and the bartender. We decided to sit at the bar and so happy we did. Alissa was our Server/Bartender she provided us with EXCEPTIONAL service, not too mention the girl has mad skills at making great cocktails. On to the chefs....they truly are brilliant!! I had the special of the day, fresh fish. The flavors and sauces complemented the fish so well without taking away from its outstanding fresh taste . The fish was cooked PERFECT, I'm very picky about this. My mother had the crepes and they could not be any better. Took us 15 minutes to have someone even acknowledge us, and then after being told to wait a couple more minutes... we never had any acknowledgement or news on progress or why we were waiting when we could see plenty open tables and no one else waiting for tables... Definitely the best place in town for a business lunch. I haven't had anything that I didn't like and the service is always respectful of your time. My favorites is the fresh fish with spinach and quinoa salad. Sandwiches are good too and like the fresh cut french fries. read more
