I genuinely enjoyed both my time and my meal at Mariposa. While the portions--especially the tacos--could have been a bit larger, the overall experience was impressive. The ingredients were fresh, the dishes were thoughtfully crafted, and the staff was warm and welcoming. Even without a reservation, on Valentine's Day, the bar seating worked out perfectly for us. The space itself has a great vibe. It reminded me of a refined, resort-style restaurant somewhere in the Caribbean--very cool atmosphere. The appetizer was excellent, and the mushroom tacos surprised me in the best way. Even without meat, they were flavorful, with a subtle hint of garlic that tied everything together. Dessert was a standout as well. So many elements came together to create a burst of flavors that really made the meal memorable. Would I return? Absolutely. There are several well-crafted dishes I'd be excited to try.

This place is a hidden gem sitting inside Monarch. The steakhouse is the most popular. We came on a Wednesday night and the specials they had were outstanding. The place was not crowded at all and the waiter along with tableside service was well above average. These guys know how to treat their guests. Give them a try as you will not be disappointed.

Mariposa is a gorgeous bistro in the Monarch casino. It is beautifully decorated and feels very special. The menu is small but has a nice variety of items. We enjoyed the salmon and the chicken fajitas. The grilled shrimp starter was tasty, but the shrimp should have been shell free considering they are served with guacamole and other sauces on top. You have to get all the stuff off in order to peel the shrimp before eating. Very messy and frustrating. The service was near perfect. The prices are high but the experience makes up for that somewhat.

We had a great experience this past Friday. Our server, Catherine B., was super helpful with going through the menu with us - patient, friendly, and professional. I loved the modern/trendy design of the restaurant. As far as the food, everything we had was delicious - 10/10! The queso fundido was giant and had a great flavor profile - the mushrooms were sooooo good! My only recommendation would be a pair of little food scissors because it had a crazy cheese pull. We shared the short rib special and charbroiled carne asada - great flavors and cooked to perfection. For dessert, we had the manzana. Highly recommend. It was so interesting - basically a cooked apple with a tequila candied shell and some amazing fried ice cream. I would definitely return next time we visit Black Hawk. Little tidbits - we started with complimentary chips and salsa and ended with complimentary cookies with the check.

Wife and I came because my company gave us gift cards. However we will come back to just to eat here on our own dime. The food, service and environment are top notch. Highly Recommend!

This is a beautiful restaurant located in the Monarch. They have a wonderful happy hour on Wednesday where portions of the menu are half off. Tons of potential but the place can be hit or miss. We've gone 3 times and found a few items were pretty inconsistent. One visit we loved the chili Relleno. The last visit and it was awful and shell overcooked and inedible. Beware on the one, all the drinks have been delicious. The great : Smokey Paloma Jalapeño marg Yuka fritas Chips and green salsa Tacos The bad: Chili Relleno (depends on the chef, the one with the hard shell is bad. Mariposa Salad - hard and incredibly difficult to chew. Oysters - way overly salted In the end, I give it 4 stars because we will be back again for the fabulous drinks , tacos and chips & salsa, and the excellent service.

Fantastic service and food. The servers and cooks were friendly, smiling, and welcoming. The decor was great and there was live music. We ordered the duck empanadas with plum sauce, prime carne asada tacos, and seafood enchiladas. I have zero complaints. Its underrated.

Nice restaurant! Situated on the third floor of the hotel casino, it is an handsome spot for a meal. Upon entering you will see the kitchen as chef prepare dishes. The hostess greets you and seats you. They take reservations but we walked in after a day scouring the mountains. They have a lot of traditional dishes paired with takes on others. It was hard to choose but I went with the lobster tacos and my sister the shrimp but we shared. So, so good! The waiter was helpful, poised and pleasant. They have specials and the Bass was tempting, but the tacos were outstanding. I ate every bite. Satisfied for sure memorable and so much more to try!

Love this spot. Smoked pork tacos and grilled shrimp tacos were awesome. 2 choices with the chips and salsa, both yummy. Fast service, Tj is the best! Spicy marg was also great.

Maybe rightly so as their specialized ingredients are harder to get. We sat inside this time though we used to go mostly mid summer and sit out. The patio was jam full last night so we ate inside where it was quite empty early evening during happy hour. My husband had the happy hour special of the evening, a very large serving of large mussels with grilled sourdough and a lucious broth. We also had some small plate tapas and I mostly grazed those. I love Bocarones and they do it so well though for me last night, the peppers were a bit too spicy. But I got the majority of the little fishies, my husband the peppers.. We also had the tortilla papas and the charred Hazel Dell mushrooms which were excellent. The little salad topping on the tortilla was full of specialty greens like fennel fronds and pea shoots. The mushrooms has a warm egg yolk on top to stir into the dressing which was tasty. We finished with their flan which was as good as my Spanish born neighbor made in my youth. I had a very nice tea with it. I was originally going to knock off a star for pricing but honestly, I don't think they have much option these days. But sadly we will go less frequently in the future.

And to stumble upon this chic and inconspicuous cocktail bar in the busy downtown was something I wasn't expecting and became a treat after a nice stroll through the town after dinner in my hotel room. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was at the place where my heart was calling for. There were two gents at the bar and one of them warmly greeted me and said I could sit anywhere I would like. I hence picked one of the bar seats. Except one table that was occupied by a couple I was the only one. I appeared to have picked the right time; I had the whole bar to myself (eventually though, several different groups of people streamed in; only a few of them sat at the bar close to me. The bar was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate a little over 10 people.) Jeremy, who greeted me upon arrival, was a super host. As soon as I explained that wine is my usual got-to, he said he could mix and match reds and whites to create a "flight" based on what I had told him as to my likings. His extensive explanations as to what sorts of reds and whites the bar offers/serves was (of course) all in his memory. His eloquent speech with no filler words truly impressed me; he sure is a wine connoisseur. What he picked for me were... -2024 Pepiere "Les Gras Moutons" (Muscadet) -Kobal "Bajta", Hazole Belo (aka Orange Wine) -Sandlands "Red Table Wine (Lodi Red Blend) With his wealth of knowledge, after giving him only a hint of what I liked, what Jeremy selected for me to sample/sip was a superb choice. All of them were world-class excellence with elegance and beauty. I carefully and slowly sipped each one little by little to truly immerse myself in the art of wine. Yes, wine is a piece of art for sure. I think I said it correctly at the beginning of this review. This is a cocktail bar with variety of spirits which Jeremy could easily concoct just about anything from gin-based one to vodka-based one to tequila-based ones to whiskey-based one to name several. For those who don't drink, their zero-proof section also has something interesting to browse and choose. Not to mention, rotating pilsner or IPA on tap to name a few from the beer section as well. If you need a little bite to eat, their (changing) food menu has a good number of New American-style plates. The bar originally opened in a different building back in 2015 (I believe). They moved to the current location in 2019. They also offer various different classes so you can expand/extend your knowledge. So for your next foodie vacation in Vail, make sure to include Root & Flower in your list.

Reservations are a must and the vibe was intimate with low ceilings and dim lighting. Spacing between tables was generous and the noise level was low enough for conversations. It appears that we are in store for a nice evening. We elected to try the tapas dishes and share as we get a better variety and chance to sample many different selections. We started with the croquetas de jamon. The croquetas were light, airy and uncious with a hint of the jamon. The betabel tostada was the blue ribbon winner tonight. The pickled beets were finely chopped, great homemade beet and masa tostada, black bean puree, chili oil, dill, chive, lemon, jalapenos, pepitas and queso fresco. The flavor profile was nailed. My only concern was trying to cut the tostada into four pieces was impossible and caused us to destroy the masterpiece. The combination though was perfect. The sweet plantains were equally flavorful and a must try. The grilled short rib with sweet potato puree, demi glace, crispy Peruvian potatoes, aji amarillo and a cilantro gel was delicious, but the short rib was microscopic. Our final selection was the camerones in garlic, lemon, lobster butter, oregano, smoked paprika and chive oil. The shrimp were overcooked and extremely rubbery, while we fought for the sauce with grilled bread. Besame was our favorite dining experience in Steamboat Spring. The seating and ambiance coupled with the food made the evening extra special. To Besame, great job overall.

This visit, we ordered the Watermelon Gazpacho (GF), Beef Short Rib Anticucho (GF), and Ensalada de Manzana y Manchego (GF). The Beef Short Rib Anticucho was the star of the meal, at least for me, I honestly wanted more because it was so good! The salad was also delicious and, while definitely more apple-heavy than greens, they were happy to accommodate my request for extra greens. My only criticism is that the menu doesn't mention the compressed watermelon in the gazpacho is infused with sangria. As someone who no longer drinks alcohol, I could definitely taste it and wish that had been disclosed on the menu. Overall, Besame remains one of my favorite spots in Steamboat. Consistently great food, great service, and always a solid dining experience.

We were immediately sat on the patio around 5:45 PM. We were greeted and given "welcome bubbles". What a nice touch. After about 5 minutes, we were finally given menus. Other people were sat around us, so we waited to ask for the happy hour menu. We ordered the chef's choice charcuterie, a cocktail, and a glass of wine. The drinks and board were yum, but not quite a wine bar as there were very limited option by the glass. Also, we had to ask for plates and silverware where this is a basic item. While deciding on dinner, we were approached a couple times by the 2 servers in the section. One was friendly, the other, not so much, rather indifferent and made us feel a little uncomfortable and not very welcome. This kind of set the tone for the rest of our night. We ordered the "family share" chateaubriand. We realize this is an expensive cut, but the portion is definitely not a sharing cut, around 4 oz. It is closer to a single entree. When it arrived, the plate was cold, like the meat was lukewarm and the cauliflower was ice cold. Again, we had to ask for silverware and plates for this "family style shareable" plate. We brought the cauliflower temperature up with the server and got new cauliflower after we were done with the rest of the meal. Also, I sat with an empty wine glass and no one stopped to ask if I needed another glass. When the servers did stop by, it was a short interaction and we never even had a chance to ask before they were already walking away. We saw so many people come in and out that they must be doing something right, but for us, our experience was mediocre. If our meal would have been the correct temperature (it was well prepared, just cold) and better execution on the service, we may have had a better experience.
