I've never eaten in this restaurant. I have had Carryout and delivery several times. It is usually very good. Food is sometimes very fast and sometimes I've called to see if they got the order. We choose vegetarian dishes and they are always good. Servings are generous. Food is fresh and hot. My favorite is the pineapple fried rice. Shrimp dishes have huge plump fresh tasting shrimp. First time visit, the restaurant has been open for 14 years. Very clean, charming & well decorate. The food was fantastic. I ordered lettuce wrap, nice portion & tasteful ( much better than p.f Chang ) sushi was well made, very nice presentation. They don't have much of selections ( raw fish ) here like others sushi restaurant but very fresh. Server was attentive, well manners & well spoken. Poor poor poor service it took 45 minutes to get my dinner and the place was almost empty. tasteless sushi if it wasn't for the wasabi and soy sauce, it wouldn't of had any flavor at all. I really wanted to like this place. The service was extremely slow from both the bar and kitchen. The waitress was very apologetic and I felt bad for her and if the food was good it may have made up for it, but unfortunately that was not the case. We ordered a sushi roll appetizer and I think they are confused about what that is. I did not even stick together, you could not pick it up and dip in the soy. This was my first time coming here. I must admit, I'm a bit nervous when it comes to eating sushi because of so many stories Ive heard of parasites, but my boyfriend convinced me to try some. I was greeted very warmly and felt very welcomed. Service came at a very timely manner and I didn't have to ask for a refill at all. I ordered the lettuce wraps appetizer because I am a big fan of the lettuce wraps from P.F. Changs. They were pretty good, but I think I enjoyed the lettuce wraps at P.F. Changs a bit more. My entree consisted of Dragon Rolls and the Green Curry Seafood Medley which came shortly after the appetizer. As someone who hasn't had sushi in years, the Dragon rolls were AMAZING! I'm a huge fan of spicy food and it did not disappoint! They gave us chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi and something that tastes a bit like sauerkraut. The Seafood medley was very good too. I was very impressed with everything from the atmosphere to the service. If it weren't for the fact I'm just visiting Missouri, I would come here again for sure. Reviewing only the Thai offerings (Saffron goes into sushi, sake, etc, too)... legit authentic flavors and offerings, which isn't surprising as the owner and Chef are both Thai. The cashew veggie stir fry is fantastic, esp if you special order a Thai omelet to eat with it. Very generous with the cashews...always a bonus. Massaman curry excellent, as is the khao soi. I'd recommend both of these if you're wanting to experiment w something besides Phad Thai (very good too). Papaya salad is decent, not great (needs more peanuts and more palm sugar, I think). Disappointed to not have sticky rice to go with it. Moo Ping (grilled pork)was ok, if not a bit on the tough side. They offer Thai hot (quite spicy for most of us) or let you add your own spice...they're not messing around with ambiguous x stars out of whatever. Anyway, super good and authentic for Cape, but also expensive for Cape (had lunch of Phad Thai and a sprite for almost $20 w tip; fun fact: in Thailand, the same lunch is $1.) read more

Cape lacks places to dine at that aren't chains. Of this small pool of locally owned restaurants, there's an even smaller pool of good restaurants. Saffron belongs in that small pool. It's not groundbreaking cuisine but it's adequate in that it delivers the possibility of a better dining experience in Cape. The decor is modern and clean. It's a calm atmosphere. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable . The food is always delicious though I wonder how much is pre-made and how much is truly made to order. I've had far better sushi, but in Cape where sushi bars are limited, Saffron is one of the better places to get it. They could expand their wine selection, but it's adequate. read more

The ambience is so nice and I really wanted to find good Thai food in the area. Sad to say I will have to keep searching. I am from LA and have traveled to Thailand, so I would say I have a good eye for Thai food. This wasn't it. The boyfriend ordered the pad see ewe. First off they used the wrong kind of noodle. It is supposed to be the thick cut flat rice noodle, and instead they used pad Thai thin rice noodles. The sauce was basically diluted soy sauce. Pretty bad. Would not recommend. I ordered the drunken noodles. The flavor was decent actually, but the noodles seemed undercooked. I would also not recommend this. The prices are also on the steeper end, and the portions are medium sized. Overall, I may give this place another shot because we may have ordered the wrong items, however I'll most likely be trying other restaurants in the area first before I come back to this one. Full Disclosure: Review is of a visit on 2/14/2015, so we caught these folks at probably one of their more slammed nights of the year. We had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arrival -- Server warned us that sushi orders were 'a bit backed up'. We should have recognized that this was waiter speak for 'caveat emptor', but we were in the mood for sushi and soldered on. Ultimately, it took about an hour for the sushi to emerge. It was excellent, but nothing's really worth an hour wait... Soup and entrees came out at expected intervals after the sushi - food was excellent all around. Server adjusted the bill (without mentioning this to us -- nice subtle touch) by comping dessert and not including a charge for chicken in one of the dishes. Don't waste your time and if you do decide to try it you'll be wasting a LOT of time. My husband and I decided to try it because I love sushi. The sushi was eh at best, it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything worth going for a second time. We ordered the sauteed mushrooms as an appetizer and while the sauce had a great flavor we were disappointed because the mushrooms weren't cooked. We had to saw through them with a knife and even that was a tough job, I never realized mushrooms came so tough. We waited 2 hours for our actual meal and when we got it, the grilled chicken breast and veggies and drunk noodles, his chicken seemed more like a cut of pork loin and none of the veggies on either of our plates were cooked. My drunk noodle dish consisted of 98% raw veggies and next to no noodles. Even the soda my husband got was flat and watered down. It was a terrible experience over all. read more

I travel the Midwest for work and I'm always on the lookout for new places to eat. Tonight I ran across Saffron in Cape Girardeau, Mo. I thought it was pretty good. Service was good and the Atmosphere was nice. I had a dynamite roll and the large sashimi plate. Dynamite roll was average at best but the sashimi plater was great. The roll was $5.95 and the sashimi platter was $22.00. It would have been nice if the meal had of included a small salad or miso soup, but both of these were extra charges. the service is good, they're authentic Thais cooking too ... but I've NEVER NEVER been to a Thai restaurant that charges 12-15$ for a Thai dish. Their curries are great and that's the most expensive on the menu ... sad! Stay away from their noodle dishes. This used to be one of my favorite places in Cape, but the quality of the food has declined in the last year. I went to lunch with friends last week and I ordered the cashew chicken stir fry. I had never had this particular wok dish and I was disappointed with the food and the service. We got to Saffron at 11:40 on a Thursday and the place was filling up. There were three of us and there were two tables for four sitting empty and set for service. The hostess, who was nice but very slow, told us there would be a wait. Two other groups of two came in right after us and they waited about 5 minutes before the hostess even returned to put them on the list. After nearly twenty minutes I was about to ask if we could have one of the empty tables, when the hostess returned and seated us. I guess the wait was because they didn't have enough servers. The other people who came in after us waited another good 10 minutes before being seated at the other table for four that had been vacant the entire time. We got an order of Saffron toast to start with and it was very heavy and greasy. We were seated for nearly an hour before we received our entrees and my chicken was overcooked and dry. The pieces of chicken and vegetables at the edge of the plate were pretty cold, like the plate had been partially under a warmer for awhile. It was disappointing. read more

This has been the closest to good thai food I can find in Cape. It has a variety of options in all types of Asian cuisine and I haven't been disappointed in anything I've tried yet. Bistro Saffron is probably the best reasonably priced restaurant in Cape Girardeau. The menu contains a broad variety of Asian cuisine and a respectable wine and beer list. I personally enjoy the spicy basil linguini and pad Thai. We also ordered the crispy calamari as an appetizer and enjoyed it as well. While the wait was longer than we expected, the food came out piping hot and fresh. Our server kept our glasses full all night and was very accommodating to our requests. We were visiting from out of town this evening, and decided to try this place. To start off I will say the food was pretty good. It was exactly what I wanted. However the service left much to be desired. I am a bartender/server and I've been in the industry longer than I'd care to admit. I work in a fairly popular pub in STL so I usually have a lot of patience with service. When we arrived we were delivered water and the server told us the specials, he didn't offer anything else to drink and when I tried to say I'd like some sake, I was already talking to his back. He took our order and my husband forgot to ask for a coffee. When I did get my sake I asked for the coffee, he looked as though I irritated him with the request. It wasn't even 730, I know sometimes taking time to brew coffee can be trying but it wasn't busy, the restaurant wasn't even on a wait. The rest of my party didn't even want to ask for a drink after that. We got the cream and sugar long after the coffee, apparently he was too involved actually talking and laughing with the table behind us. My husband was never offered a refill but it didn't matter, we suspect it was decaf. We stopped after and picked up a coffee elsewhere. The only thing he delivered quickly was the check. We needed one box and had to ask for it after the check was delivered because none was offered. I tipped appropriately because I know the life. We all have bills but I didn't like that we were treated so differently. Was it my tatts and piercings? Or because 3 of the ppl at the 4 top are people of color? Or because my husband, a cook, has long hair and looks like a hippie? No matter what, we received poor service. I wish I had gotten the service the table behind me got, we love friendly waitstaff. Always good food. I like rice and noodles and curry. I guess I just like Asian food and this is a cut above the rest. The decor is pretty plus the staff are friendly and helpful. I love the pad thai. Food was ok. Nothing bad, but nothing great. Also a bit pricy for just average asian food. Atmosphere was very nice. However, service leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered appetizers and an entree, both were served at the same time which left one or the other to get cold. While other guests of the same waiter were served their dishes separately. We also had to remove our own service plates and hold them while the appetizers and entree were served - AT THE SAME TIME - as there was no room on the small two top for all the dished brought out at once. I ordered a veggie dish and when asked for just vegetables I was greeted with a look of disbelief and a second questioning of my choice, even though the menu suggested that just veggies was a choice. As a vegan this left me feeling like an alien. Requested refills of water took until the end of my dinner mates meal to arrive. It took several minutes to clear my plate, which would have been nice, but as my dinner mate was not finished this didn't surprise me. What did surprise was the quickness with which the check came. My dinner mate still had most of his appetizers and meal left. When the check was delivered and was automatically split in two without asking, requiring the server to redo the checks as I was paying. I really felt like we were given the bum's rush. Other than the service, we might have returned (I almost always like to give restaurants 2 chances) and tried a different dish, but we probably won't return. read more

As a traveler, I usually eat at a sushi house every week. This was ok. It wasn't fantastic, but it certainly wasn't gas station sushi either. The order came out amazingly fast which made me wonder if it was pre made, but it still tasted ok. I haven't eaten at the shogun which is also in town, so I can't compare the two...
