We were craving French food in a nice quaint cafe and thank goodness Yelp brought us here. As mentioned in the other reviews, the decor and vibes really remind us of France. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. The service is fantastic as well. Ordering several small plates and sharing an entree was perfect for us. The pate and bread is delicious with a nice sized portion. Ditto with the tampenade. Also can't go wrong with the escargot. The poutine was a pleasant surprise since it is loaded with beef bourguignon. Wednesday night is really nice since they have wine board specials at an amazing price point. Wow! What a gem we found in this Seal Beach French restaurant! I had seen this place many times, but hadn't paid much attention to it. We were walking by yesterday and stopped to look at the menu and decided we would give it a try. The decor is very much as you would expect in a French bistro. There are blue checked tablecloths and art on the walls, and a long bar along one wall. There is a gourmet market attached, which has wonderful gift items (reasonable priced!!), and, of course French food products and wine (with win be tasting!!). I think one sign was that French was being spoken by many in this restaurant. We were greeted right away, and we're told we could pick out table. Our server came quickly, and was so nice and accommodating. We came in a Monday night, when select tapas, draft beers, and bottles of wine are 50% off. Neither of us was very hungry, so hubby ordered a French beer (so sorry--i can't remember the name) and we ordered a few tapas. We got: *Escargot in garlic parsley butter with warm bread *Soupe A L'oignon Gratinee * Lamb pops in wine reduction served with ratatouille *Beef bourguignon First, let me say that the food was amazing!!!! So delicious! There was so much garlic butter to sop up with our warm bread and escargot---deeeelush! The lamb pops were perfectly cooked and the wine reduction was also perfection. The beef bourguinon was the best I've had, and the tapas size, which is supposed to be a half of the regular size, was so big. There was soooo much beef--no skimping here. This was an authentic French bistro, with a big bar and tables where you can linger over lunch and share a bottle. I will say that as a vegetarian, the menu was unfortunately too authentic--just like in France, it is tricky making a meal out of the selection. You can order croque monsieur, croque madame, French dip, onion soup, escargot, and frog's legs, but for vegetarian options, there was tomato bisque and a beet salad. Limited but good. I dipped into pescatarian realm and enjoyed very much the tapenade (olives and anchovies) with baguette slices. The family run bistro adjoins a shop with imported French snacks and small gift items. It also has a wine tasting room. If you are missing a taste of France, this is worth the trip to Seal Beach. read more

Exceptional experience! Took the 171 down PCH from DTLB right to their front door on Main St. Seal Beach. Easy, no need to worry about parking. We were after their Nicoise Ahi Salad. It's tough to find a Nicoise salad around town, and even harder to find a good one. BSG did not disappoint. Fresh, flavorful, and nicely presented. They have a very interesting menu, but we stayed with just soup and salad. Add a nice cold and crisp glass of French white wine. Also the whole side of the restaurant opens up to enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Definitely worth the adventure! read more

EPILEPSY WARNING - the fan and light set up causes flickering throughout the whole restaurant so photosensitive people beware! That being said, this place is as mid as I remember it being a few years ago. The wine selection is just sad for a French restaurant, the steak knife is flimsy and feels like using it will make it break in your hand, the wine carafes used to refill glasses have permanent marker lines which makes it look like there's mold (train your staff instead of looking low class), and they only offer paper napkins like the set up you'd get at a Joes Crab Shack. The prices are good but the quality of details is poor. I had the lamb pops and escargot and only enjoyed the lamb. The escargot was too chewy, in poor quality olive oil, had maybe a dash of herbs, and poor quality garlic. The bread it came with should never again be called a baguette - it was dense as heck! The service and tables were fine, but if you care about attention to detail, quality ingredients, and wine that actually reminds you of France, you're even better off at a grocery store. read more

We happened in to the restaurant on Wine Wednesday. $8 glasses or $32 bottles. Awesome price. Hans was our server~ He is the Jack of all Trades! He was the host, bartender, the server & the buser.The restaurant filled up and he never stopped or slowed down; he never appeared flustered or too busy at all when checking on every table. we all had the French onion soup. That was delightful, I had the salmon with rice and mixed vegetables. The rice could've used a little more flavor, but the salmon portion was large & the vegetables were seasoned perfectly. we all loved the ambience! It is open air with large windows, high ceilings, and ceiling fans. The bar area is very inviting with an abundance of wine choices and lots of beer on tap. A friend and I were excited about using Clipp.com coupons $25 for $50. In the past, and at a restaurant just down the block, we used the coupon and explained to the manager that we were unable to scan the coupon to purchase the meal. They honored the coupon itself without going through the website of Clipp.com. Upon arrival at Bistro, I explained that we had the coupon but were unable to connect with the Clipp website. We were told that the coupon could not be honored unless purchased through the website...total opposite of the restaurant down the block! To make matters worse, we were told that they had received many complaints about that website from others, but still would not honor the coupon! We stayed and enjoyed some tapas but were not happy with the very loud waitress serving a nearby table and the wind coming through the open window nearby! Certainly could have been a better experience, but we will not be returning considering the lack of customer respect regardless of full knowledge that the coupon cite DID NOT WORK! read more

A good spot for French food on Main Street in Seal Beach. Okey service (yes I witnessed worst), slow most of the time so if you come here expected great, fast service then don't - if you got new or experienced staff then you will get fast service on drinks but foods wise....not so sure on that. It's a great dinning area with full bar and decent bartenders, but if you order just wines, and beers then you're good but cocktails...just okey. Nice presentation of the foods, taste is just good, nothing standout. The room is greatly decor with cool posters and they opened a store next door so you get grabs to go. The food is delicious!! We started with lamb pops, they were seasoned and grilled perfectly, and the ratatouille was amazing! I licked the plate clean with their fresh bread. The Salmon Meuniere was cooked perfectly. It was accompanied with veggies and rice. It was a generous portion. We also ordered the bone in pork chop which was delicious as well. Finally we finished with a creme brule. Delicious! The server was very attentive and funny. We enjoyed the table against the back wall, we had a great view of the TVs over the bar area, and a nice view of the whole restaurant. They have a local crowd and a good amount of seats. This is downtown seal beach. It's a cute spot. It has been over ten years since I ate here. Went for happy hour with a friend. WOW The happy hour food is amazing. It's so filling and reasonably prices. I had a Chardonnay-delicious. Everything was so lip-smacking good and I brought home leftovers--seriously this was happy hour food and we were both stuffed! Service was five stars all the way. They have a parking lot and there's lots of street parking as well. Our server Kyra was very kind and helpful. A nice balance of offering suggestions without being pushy like some servers can be. The busboy was very polite and the hostess that sat us was great too! A+ for service tonight. We had the Friday Special of the 12 oz. Hand-cut Ribeye. Compliments to the chef, it was cooked spot on. It's been here for years and we never stopped in and it's a shame that we didn't do so earlier. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. I usually bring my two dogs, and the staff is always very accommodating to my dogs, and they make us feel very welcome. The casual interior is inviting, comfortable, and quaint with a number of checkered-tablecloth tables and a good-sized bar serving a large number of beers on tap. They have a limited selection of wine. I ordered a latte while I looked over the menu. I decided on the day's special - spaghetti and meatballs. The latte was perfect. Some fresh bread with oil & balsamic was brought while I waited for the spaghetti which didn't take long at all. The two large meatballs were great! I'm hoping the sauce wasn't some great-grandmother's secret recipe as I thought the spaghetti was good but nothing special. I decided to get the tarte tatin for dessert. Carmelized apple slices on top of a thin crepe (rather than a pastry) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with caramel drizzle and some strawberries on the side was an enjoyable after-dinner dish. I appreciated it wasn't overly sweet but just the perfect sweetness to satisfy. Service was exceptional, the kind that is attentive without ever being annoying. read more
