Went in last night on 4th of July. Nice they were one of the few restaurants open. It was 6:30 roughly. Hostesses greeted us and let us know it would be around 30 minutes. We found seats at the bar. Bar atmosphere is very nice. Being a local and growing up here Walt's was always nice to go to. The remodel looks good too. Ordered two drinks and here's where things went south. When we ordered drinks about 10 minutes in, within 10 more minutes and our table was ready. So we asked the bartender to bring them to the table which he did and we tipped him out. When he put my martini down I said "where's the rest of it". As the other drink was filled properly. His reply was "I'll make the next one fuller". Wrong answer!!!! This admittedly he should have properly made the drink in the first place. None the less we tipped 20%. Still very disappointing when you're paying $20 for a drink it should be full. I will say the bar is different now. The bartenders can make drinks only in one place now. The owners placed cameras directly in one spot target g the bartenders making drinks. Very sad they monitor this so clearly. They watch every measure. You will see they measure every alcohol. The wine pours are weak too. The guys are very nice but not mixologists by any means. So if you're going to the bar, get a beer. Food was ok, atmosphere nice. Table service good. However if you're looking for an all around better bar then Mahe's is the choice. They also have outstanding Sushi. If you want a better fish restaurant Los Alamitos Fish Company bar and restaurant is your clear winner here. They are better in every category. Ever since the remodel it seems it's being monitored from afar. I know they owned a winery and maybe the focus went there.

This restaurant has been around at least over 50 years! Quite an exciting restaurant to be at. We enjoyed the Clam Chowder a lot. Creamy, rich, and full of clams just what you'd expect from a perfect clam chowder. The Prawns and Chips were pretty good, only the dish didn't stand out. The fries were dry and the crust of the prawns were not crunchy. It's a nice comfy restaurant to be when in Seal Beach. Our server was very nice.

My wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. I heard that Walt's Wharf is an institution in Seal Beach and has been around more than 50 years. Since seafood is its speciality, we ordered a bowl of clam chowder and shrimp and chips (a special where the shrimp replaces the fish). The clam chowder was excellent: creamy, super-fresh clams, nice seasoning. And of course, little crackers to drop into the chowder. The shrimp and chips were solid, but not special, which is the reason for the 4 vs. 5 star score. While the shrimp was crispy and very fresh, the batter was too thick. The tartar sauce that accompanied the shrimp was very good. The fries were good, but on the dry side. The cole slaw as the side was excellent. Our waitress was terrific: prompt, enthusiastic, friendly. The restaurant decor was really nice with a huge wall painting of Seal Beach, complete with pier, pelicans and fishing boats and lots of open ocean. The restaurant had a pleasant lunchtime vibe to it and its location on Main Street can't be beat.

Walt's is always a consistent favorite for us! We took guests visiting from Ohio. As usual, the artichoke was incredible! The oysters were delicious too!!! We had the BEST service! Both Matt and Justin were fantastic! They were so nice, engaging and helpful!

Walked into Walt's Wharf on a Saturday around 4:45pm and got on the list for dinner. The quoted 30 minute wait went by quickly. We were seated in a cozy booth and ordered: Calamari - Loved the addition of vegetables like carrots and peppers which added variety. The batter was light, crispy and not greasy. Fish and chips - Just like the calamari, the batter was perfectly light and crisp. It came with a generous portion of fries and coleslaw. Trout almondine - The fish was perfectly cooked and paired nicely with wild rice and green beans. I appreciated how its topped with a good amount of toasted almonds. For my daughter, the butter bucatini with a cup of milk was a hit. Our server was attentive and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the meal. We had a great experience and we're already looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu.

Wonderful experience for first/time visitors. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating of us brining in our 10-month old. The restaurant is nice but not pretentious so we felt comfortable with our baby. I can't recall our server's name (she was blonde and middle aged) but she was so sweet and attentive. We chatted about kids and she took care of us our entire visit. We all enjoyed our food including the complimentary warm sourdough bread with soft, spreadable butter, coconut crusted shrimp, mahi mahi tacos, kid's salon plate, stuffed salmon, and chocolate bomb. I personally had the stuffed salmon. Hands down the best cooked salmon I've ever had. It tasted like butter and practically melted in my mouth. We all enjoyed everything from the appetizer to dessert! Highly recommend a visit to Walt's Wharf!

First time back since they reopened after they had a fire. Late lunch included albacore sandwich which my wife enjoyed. I had fish and chips that were excellent. Clam chowder is excellent. Cole slaw was good. The downstairs is only open for lunch. Upstairs is open Friday and Saturday night only for added capacity. Popular place for a long time. Main Street is nice place to walk.

Met up with a friend, former colleague (an organization we're both no longer at) last night her for dinner. Though it was my first time, I can see why a lot of people love this place. More on that later. Coming down to Seal Beach from DTLA, everything was smooth. Parking too. Found street parking nearby. Enforced until 6PM so it was FREE. Unlike LA where you're dining and worrying about meters. Arrived and dined at one of the tables adjacent to the bar. There's another section downstairs as well as upstairs, but that wasn't open. Spoke with the owner, warm, passionate person who clearly has been pouring her heart into decorating and restoring the restaurant (fire) who was kind enough to give my friend and I a tour upstairs - which I felt was ready to be opened - as it looked only to be missing a few touches like artwork to fill in a few bare wall spaces. Looking around you can tell she takes pride and care in the details. Recovering from a fire as well as Covid - pouring everything you have into a project like this is inspiring and refreshing. Anyway, I ordered the Chicken Alfredo (see pics). It's served with Penne, not fettucine. It's different for me as the sauce can collect in the pasta and not really coat the surface. It can give you a richer bite - just FYI in case you're like me and expecting the traditional dish. Also got a small Caesar. I liked it but would have enjoyed it more if the croutons were cut smaller. I might be wrong but I felt like the dressing was poured and not tossed (or maybe not tossed enough). I really had a good experience. The vibe was relaxed. The service was excellent and friendly. So, it just a matter of whether I'd go back or not. That's not the right question though - it's not if, it's when. Even if I don't live close by.

My goodness am I glad Walt's Wharf is back! This place has been a gem for so many years and I feel it just keeps getting better with time like a nice fine wine! Went here for dinner with a few of my friends and let's just say we were all over the moon with our meals and dessert and of course the mini sourdough loaves & whipped butter this place will forever blow me out of the water and I'm ready to go back already and I just left. Thank you Walt's Wharf & team for such beautiful ambiance, great service & amazing food!! See you guys soon !!

This popular Seal Beach seafood restaurant was closed for some time after a fire, but it's back now. I didn't think would need a reservation on a Monday night, but we did indeed have to wait. It's okay because we just walked around Main Street Seal Beach, which was very quiet. There are two floors to this restaurant and two rooms downstairs. One room has a wall to wall fisherman mural. Through we sat in had windows all around. You can see into the kitchen, but it is walled with glass. Several people were sitting at the bar eating. We got warm sourdough bread and whipped butter. I normally don't like sourdough bread, but this sourdough, which was kind of brown and not the normal white, was so good. Hubby ordered the Red Trout Almondine, which came with rice and green beans. It was a huge piece of fish, and it was delicious. I ordered blackened tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and bok choy. The tuna was just seated, and seasoned perfectly. It was sooooo good. It was the first day that this was on the menu, and I hope it is permanent. Lastly, our server, as well as the hostess, were very, very nice and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Ask the Community - Walt's Wharf

    Do they take reservations?

Not at the time I dined there. Should call to verify

How noisy is Walt's Wharf? My husband has a hearing disability and it is very hard for him to hear and participate in conversations at loud restaurants?

It's on the medium to loud side if it's busy. I've been in plenty of much louder places and they don't blast music or anything but I wouldn't call Walt's quiet. You should be OK. I'd take my Dad there...and he refuses to wear his hearing aids!

I thought it shut down for good?

Nope! Back open and good as always! Stop in and support a local restaurant!

    When will the restaurant reopen?

    It's open now

Where can we find the happy hour menu or what's on there ? Thanks

They have fish tacos fish tostadas, crispy calamari spinach and Artichoke dip and Angus beef sliders all for happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM with wine specials too

Does Walt's Wharf have an ocean view?

No. The restaurant is on Main Street - 3 blocks from the shore.

It wasn't even close to full. They're clearly holding people outside on purpose to create fake hype, which is honestly pretty messed up. You're telling me dozens of people are stuck waiting forever while there's plenty of room inside? It's giving manufactured crowd and poor management. To make it worse, they stopped serving drinks and turned the lights on at 1:15 AM, way earlier than literally any normal bar. So after wasting hours in line, you barely even get time inside. And it somehow gets worse -- at 1:35 AM they were literally kicking people out of the restroom. We weren't even allowed to finish or wash our hands before being rushed out. That's not just rude, it's straight up unhygienic and disrespectful. Overall, completely overhyped, disorganized, and not worth the wait at all. Don't fall for the line -- it's fake.

The Food: My party had lunch here specifically for the Thursday deal: $7 smash burgers. And we were pleasantly surprised to find out that not only was each smash burger huge (two cheese patties with bacon) but it also comes with fries. What a deal! Though it doesn't come with lettuce and tomatoes, and it was a little greasy, the smash burger was large, juicy, and satisfying. The fries were also really good; crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. The Service: Our server was friendly, knowledge, and quick to respond when we asked for help. She also did us a solid by providing a side of lettuce (so my mom could get her veggies in) without charging us extra. The Atmosphere: Picture an Irish (American) pub and that's exactly what you get here. Fun decor, TV screens, wood furniture, and a bar area. There's also a small covered outdoor area facing Main Street. The Parking: There's a very small parking lot but there's a free street parking. Just note that they fill up quickly during peak hours. The Conclusion: If you're looking for good (but not amazing gourmet) food in a lively place near the ocean, Hennessy's Grill will serve up a good time. Plus, look for different deals during the middle of the week if you're looking to stretch your dollar.

I'm a sucker for a good benedict, so I ordered their Irish Benedict, which is made with corned beef. This thing was loaded! It was so much food that I took about half home as leftovers. The corned beef was tender and juicy and went well with the hollandaise. I like a little more hollandaise on my benedicts, but that's personal preference. I had a tea with my meal, which was ok. I hoped that an Irish establishment would be better at handling tea than American places are, but I also understand it's a bar and most people aren't coming here to order a hot tea. There was a soccer game on when I arrived and the place was packed, but it cleared out pretty quickly once the game ended. This is a lively pub, not somewhere to come if you're looking for a quiet ambiance. That's not a bad thing, but I've noticed a few people mentioning it with surprise in other reviews so I'm pointing it out to help other people make choices in line with the type of dining experience they want to have. I personally didn't find the noise of the sports or sports fans overwhelming, and felt it added to the vibe of the place. I had one small issue while I was there and the manager was quick to make it right. I really appreciated their responsiveness and eagerness to make sure their customers are well taken care of. The sandwich was excellent. In fact the sandwich hit the spot. Perfectly. If I was to grade strictly on the sandwich alone this establishment would get a perfect score. Alas that is not the case. Washroom is satisfactory, clean and paper towels were available... good. There was a band that played part of the time... just a bunch of loud noise in my opinion. Even when the band was not playing the ambient noise level was very high. I am dinging this establishment one point due to the noise level. I have a general complaint about the personal appearance of one or more of the guys who work at this establishment. One or more of the men who worked at this establishment wore his shirt untucked. I consider that to be highly unprofessional and inappropriate. I am dinging this establishment one point for allowing guys to wear their shirts untucked as this is something I am OCD about. If I was to assign a letter grade as is done in school, this establishment would be in there solid with a "C".
