We enjoy this restaurant. Atmosphere is pleasant and the service always excellent. We had a nice meal Saturday and my mahi-mahi was very good. The clam chowder is always excellent. The swordfish was good. One suggestion I have relates to the 4 1/2 old we had with us. I saw a couple other kids and we asked if they had a kids menu as we saw chicken nuggets. The waitress said they don't have a formal on and brought an old slip of paper with several items. She said it is old and the prices don't apply anymore. It seems pretty easy to have a small card with items and prices for a kids menu. Another good meal. Remember if you bring Babcock wine there is no $25 corkage fee. read more

For the price and location of this place we had a very mediocre meal. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and its presentation was beautiful, but it tasted very bland and was more dry than we would have liked. The chips tasted slightly stale. My cousin was very excited to order the swordfish for he had never tasted swordfish before. The piece he got was overcooked and bland. His potatoes were very good though! I ordered the pasta Pescatore. It wasn't bad but wasn't exciting either. My grandma got the fish and chips and although the size and taste of the fish was good, she found a large bone in one of the pieces and it hurt her tooth. I also asked the server which of the fish was fresh and she said it was all fresh. I asked, since it was so close to the water, what they had that was local and she said none of the fish was local. His knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations made our experience feel especially personal, and his positive attitude really stood out. Coming to the Seal Beach area and especially Main Street Seal Beach, Walt's Wharf I'm sure has been part of this seal beach history for decades. We finally got the chance to give it a try. Upon entry we were greeted by the hostess but for some reason, I did not feel a sincere welcome. We were seated in an area where you had a nice view of Main Street and the crowds of people walking down Main street. Since it was our first time, we took a few minutes to go over the menu and decide on what to order. I don't know if our server was getting annoyed with us but she seemed a bit short or cold. Again, I didn't feel this sincerity of the staff appreciating we are there to give them business. When we finally were able to order, we also asked for bread. When our server left to put our order in, we waited for a while and we felt she forgot we wanted bread. She came with my soup and my wife's salad but no bread. So I asked again, and she said of course, but I sensed this feeling like I'm asking for too much. Maybe she was having a bad day and couldn't really get herself to be friendly or give us the feeling that they are happy we are there. The bread finally was brought over and we truly enjoyed the clam chowder and the Walt's salad which went well with the warm sourdough roll. At least the food was timed appropriately and the entree came when we were finished with our soup and salad. Our entree, the Trout Almandine was delicious. With a nice char to the skin and a nice grilled flavor to the trout. Their rice and green beans were the perfect accompaniment to our fish. Things got better towards the end of the meal to make it a nice lunch. I would come back just for the clam chowder. It was so full of clams in every spoonful and also not overboard with potatoes as most seafood restaurants tend to do to be able to have less clams in it. We ate here a couple times before they closed down....which we thought was a bummer. Once it was resurrected we added it onto our list of places to eat at soon. We dined here last week. It was quite a wait, close to an hour... The menu isn't super huge. Everything we ordered was good and satisfying. We loved the fresh and hot homemade rolls with butter *drool* Got a grilled artichoke as an appetizer then shared a wedge salad and the shrimp and scallop linguine. The wedge hit the spot for me! I only had a few bites of the pasta dish as I was very full by that point. My husband liked it though, however, both of us noticed the noodles were a bit hard, like more than al dente. Not sure if it's because they were undercooked or if it was homemade pasta and it has a harder texture...? Is that a thing? I'm not sure as I don't ever eat from-scratch pasta. Nice spot to dine close to the water! The ambiance is quaint and provides a very relaxed atmosphere. Service was good and the wait staff were attentive throughout the dinner. This restaurant has been around at least over 50 years! Quite an exciting restaurant to be at. We enjoyed the Clam Chowder a lot. Creamy, rich, and full of clams just what you'd expect from a perfect clam chowder. The Prawns and Chips were pretty good, only the dish didn't stand out. Walked into Walt's Wharf on a Saturday around 4:45pm and got on the list for dinner. The quoted 30 minute wait went by quickly. We were seated in a cozy booth and ordered: Calamari - Loved the addition of vegetables like carrots and peppers which added variety. The batter was light, crispy and not greasy. Fish and chips - Just like the calamari, the batter was perfectly light and crisp. It came with a generous portion of fries and coleslaw. Trout almondine - The fish was perfectly cooked and paired nicely with wild rice and green beans. I appreciated how its topped with a good amount of toasted almonds. For my daughter, the butter bucatini with a cup of milk was a hit. Our server was attentive and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the meal. Wonderful experience for first/time visitors. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating of us brining in our 10-month old. The restaurant is nice but not pretentious so we felt comfortable with our baby. I can't recall our server's name (she was blonde and middle aged) but she was so sweet and attentive. We chatted about kids and she took care of us our entire visit. We all enjoyed our food including the complimentary warm sourdough bread with soft, spreadable butter, coconut crusted shrimp, mahi mahi tacos, kid's salon plate, stuffed salmon, and chocolate bomb. I personally had the stuffed salmon. Hands down the best cooked salmon I've ever had. It tasted like butter and practically melted in my mouth. Met up with a friend, former colleague (an organization we're both no longer at) last night her for dinner. Though it was my first time, I can see why a lot of people love this place. More on that later. Coming down to Seal Beach from DTLA, everything was smooth. Parking too. Found street parking nearby. Enforced until 6PM so it was FREE. Unlike LA where you're dining and worrying about meters. Arrived and dined at one of the tables adjacent to the bar. There's another section downstairs as well as upstairs, but that wasn't open. Spoke with the owner, warm, passionate person who clearly has been pouring her heart into decorating and restoring the restaurant (fire) who was kind enough to give my friend and I a tour upstairs - which I felt was ready to be opened - as it looked only to be missing a few touches like artwork to fill in a few bare wall spaces. Looking around you can tell she takes pride and care in the details. Recovering from a fire as well as Covid - pouring everything you have into a project like this is inspiring and refreshing. Anyway, I ordered the Chicken Alfredo (see pics). It's served with Penne, not fettucine. It's different for me as the sauce can collect in the pasta and not really coat the surface. It can give you a richer bite - just FYI in case you're like me and expecting the traditional dish. Also got a small Caesar. I liked it but would have enjoyed it more if the croutons were cut smaller. I might be wrong but I felt like the dressing was poured and not tossed (or maybe not tossed enough). I really had a good experience. The vibe was relaxed. The service was excellent and friendly. So, it just a matter of whether I'd go back or not. It's the first time my husband and I have tried this restaurant. I can't believe we haven't tried it sooner. The food was awesome! It was fresh and flavorful without the flavor overpowering the food. My wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. I heard that Walt's Wharf is an institution in Seal Beach and has been around more than 50 years. Since seafood is its speciality, we ordered a bowl of clam chowder and shrimp and chips (a special where the shrimp replaces the fish). The clam chowder was excellent: creamy, super-fresh clams, nice seasoning. And of course, little crackers to drop into the chowder. The shrimp and chips were solid, but not special, which is the reason for the 4 vs. 5 star score. While the shrimp was crispy and very fresh, the batter was too thick. The tartar sauce that accompanied the shrimp was very good. The fries were good, but on the dry side. The cole slaw as the side was excellent. Our waitress was terrific: prompt, enthusiastic, friendly. The restaurant decor was really nice with a huge wall painting of Seal Beach, complete with pier, pelicans and fishing boats and lots of open ocean. My husband and I have been to Walts Wharf several times and was disappointed when they had closed for a while, but happy that they're back, however with one exception. We celebrated my husband's birthday a couple weeks ago, and after letting the waitress know that it was his birthday at the end of our meal. There was no acknowledgment. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, so I was highly disappointed when there was nothing brought out to celebrate from the kitchen. A scoop of ice cream would've done it. This popular Seal Beach seafood restaurant was closed for some time after a fire, but it's back now. I didn't think would need a reservation on a Monday night, but we did indeed have to wait. It's okay because we just walked around Main Street Seal Beach, which was very quiet. There are two floors to this restaurant and two rooms downstairs. One room has a wall to wall fisherman mural. Through we sat in had windows all around. You can see into the kitchen, but it is walled with glass. Several people were sitting at the bar eating. We got warm sourdough bread and whipped butter. I normally don't like sourdough bread, but this sourdough, which was kind of brown and not the normal white, was so good. Hubby ordered the Red Trout Almondine, which came with rice and green beans. It was a huge piece of fish, and it was delicious. I ordered blackened tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and bok choy. The tuna was just seated, and seasoned perfectly. It was sooooo good. It was the first day that this was on the menu, and I hope it is permanent. Lastly, our server, as well as the hostess, were very, very nice and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. read more

Went in last night on 4th of July. Nice they were one of the few restaurants open. It was 6:30 roughly. Hostesses greeted us and let us know it would be around 30 minutes. We found seats at the bar. Bar atmosphere is very nice. Being a local and growing up here Walt's was always nice to go to. The remodel looks good too. Ordered two drinks and here's where things went south. When we ordered drinks about 10 minutes in, within 10 more minutes and our table was ready. So we asked the bartender to bring them to the table which he did and we tipped him out. When he put my martini down I said "where's the rest of it". As the other drink was filled properly. His reply was "I'll make the next one fuller". Wrong answer!!!! This admittedly he should have properly made the drink in the first place. None the less we tipped 20%. Still very disappointing when you're paying $20 for a drink it should be full. I will say the bar is different now. The bartenders can make drinks only in one place now. The owners placed cameras directly in one spot target g the bartenders making drinks. Very sad they monitor this so clearly. They watch every measure. You will see they measure every alcohol. The wine pours are weak too. The guys are very nice but not mixologists by any means. So if you're going to the bar, get a beer. Food was ok, atmosphere nice. Table service good. However if you're looking for an all around better bar then Mahe's is the choice. They also have outstanding Sushi. If you want a better fish restaurant Los Alamitos Fish Company bar and restaurant is your clear winner here. They are better in every category. We stumbled upon this place because my boyfriend was craving seafood and we were around the area so we decided to give this a shot and we are so happy we did! Being celiac, they were so accommodating and even had a GF menu! We start off with the oak grilled artichoke, which was super delicious and the lemon aïoli sauce was a perfect pair. I also got the classic mai tai, which was one of the best I've had since they used homemade orgeat. BF got the mahi-mahi plate and I got the GF mahi-mahi tacos and we both agreed that the fish was super fresh and delicious! First time back since the remodel. It's as good as ever. You just have to know what to order. You have to get the oak grilled artichokes with Lea and Perrins aioli. This is one of the signature dishes of the restaurant, and they live up to the hype. We also love the steamed clams. Make sure to ask for some extra sourdough bread to sop up the wine, butter, and garlic broth. Finish it off with the Caramelized Salmon entree--another signature dish--and you have the perfect dinner for two. The Babcock wines are also very good. Gave this a second shot after their soft opening (no bottles of wine being sold back then because the bartender said they were trying to get rid of their stock) What?! Food wasn't spectacular. So tried Walt's again. Not even busy for a Saturday night. They are back to selling bottles (nothing under $50ish) and we ordered a Sauvignon Blanc wine that our server put in a wine bucket and said I'll only pour a little because it needs to chill. It must have been on a shelf somewhere because it was lukewarm. (Strike one) My husband ordered mussels and the server asked him if he would like them the "regular way" and he said yes. And we ordered a coconut shrimp appetizer. Mussels were delivered with spicy jalapeños and he said, I guess I should have asked what their "regular" way meant. He ate them anyway. Later, our server checked back and said, "Oh, I think you got the wrong mussels, can I get you the right one?" (Too late) He said they weren't that great anyway, small and a lot didn't even open. (Strike two) The Coconut shrimp looked beautiful but was hard as a rock and inedible. (Strike three) Didn't finish them. We each had one. Met up with a good friend last week who loves this place. Now I'm a fan too. I truly enjoyed my soup, scallops & shrimp fettuccine, and decadent chocolate dessert. Service was beyond excellent. Our server was the sweetest and thoughtful person. My good friend had their filet mignon that was served with garlic mash potatoes. She enjoyed her dish too. I will definitely be back with my husband to dine here! My only hang up was I left my trusty gray umbrella since it was a rainy day. Approaching the restaurant, We bypassed the waiting patrons and proceeded to the bar on the far west side. I immediately ordered the clam chowder, which was exceptionally delicious. My wife opted for the House Smoked Fish Platter, not impressed with it and intending to return it, but I decided to indulge in it instead. This dish should be removed from the menu.
