I found myself in Seal Beach for work and stopped here for dinner on a weekday. The casual interior is inviting, comfortable, and quaint with a number of checkered-tablecloth tables and a good-sized bar serving a large number of beers on tap. They have a limited selection of wine. I ordered a latte while I looked over the menu. I decided on the day's special - spaghetti and meatballs. The latte was perfect. Some fresh bread with oil & balsamic was brought while I waited for the spaghetti which didn't take long at all. The two large meatballs were great! I'm hoping the sauce wasn't some great-grandmother's secret recipe as I thought the spaghetti was good but nothing special. I decided to get the tarte tatin for dessert. Carmelized apple slices on top of a thin crepe (rather than a pastry) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with caramel drizzle and some strawberries on the side was an enjoyable after-dinner dish. I appreciated it wasn't overly sweet but just the perfect sweetness to satisfy. Service was exceptional, the kind that is attentive without ever being annoying. read more

This is such a cute bistro It's kind of small, but really quaint. It's the type of place that has something for everyone. I'd come here for wine with girlfriends, I'd bring family here when they come into town and there was even kids in here enjoying food. I was even greeted by a huge dog sitting by the door waiting for his owner and it completely made my day. The food was awesome, I'd give it a 10/10. The only downfall I could see was there was only 2 people working it looked like. So it took a while for my drinks to be refilled and etc but the food came out extremely fast and everyone was friendly. Stumbled in on a rainy Saturday night and was promptly greeted by Armando. Proceeded to have a wonderful wine tasting experience with many different French reds. This is a cute little restaurant in downtown Seal Beach, a short walk from the water. It's a great date night. Service was outstanding! The food looked good, it was prepared well and we enjoyed the experience. During the short drive home, there was a fair amount of intestinal distress that lingered for a couple days. I can't say it was from Bistro but the rest of my diet leading up to it was pretty standard and shared by others that didn't suffer. I'd go back, but probably wait a few months forthe memories of stomach rumbling to fade. read more

The St Germain Market opened next to Bistro St Germain so it's a convenient stop before or after a meal. The owner said they can't keep the "Emily in Paris" cookbook in stock. I confess, I bought one. Lots of food items also. Toulouse sausages, and other French specialties. The market is well laid out with plenty of space to walk around. Often times, the strength of a restaurant you genuinely favor is contingent upon how often you eat there or plan to eat there. A fairly intuitive rule...but that seemed to ring true for us at St. Germain. It was recommended, and we ended up trying the place out with the very person who did the referring. We had a good time with appetizers we shared: charcuterie platter, escargots, poutine, French onion soup and chocolate mousse for dessert. We loved the presentation of the charcuterie the most, but the escargots seemed to run the show. You get bottomless, freshly baked bread served before your entrees, but we got two or three baskets by the time the meal was paid for. The braised beef in the poutine was SO tender. And it came in a generous portion. I ended up making sliders with the baguette slices. The mousse was a terrific finish to the meal, and it tasted like it was devoid of any instant recipe fillers. Before we left, we were already talking about the new stuff (pork belly lollipops and lamb pops, to start) we'd order the next time we visit. Speaking so soon, I have a strong feeling we aren't bluffing. The food, the service and the beach town atmosphere made this a very satisfying place to have lunch. This restaurant is located on Main Street in Seal Beach. It's a great little location and the restaurant itself is very cute. They have daily weekday specials, which is what enticed me to visit. I chose to come on Thursday for their Beef Bourguignon special ($22 instead of $26). We also ordered a few other appetizers since they all sounded good. We ordered the French Onion Soup, Baked Honey Goat Cheese, and the Poutine. They were all good, but I'd say the goat cheese was the stand out. I wouldn't recommend ordering the soup, poutine and beef bourguignon together though because they all taste very similar. I'm not sure if I'd return because it's very pricey for what it is, but it's definitely worth a try for anyone who hasn't been! read more

It was my wife's birthday and we were staying in Seal Beach and decided to give BSG a try. AWESOME! Great decision to have dinner hear... it was $8 wine night and the angus beef lasagna was the special. It was delicious! My wife had the seared ahi salad and our some had the sea bass. Everything was delicious and the service was great! Being on Main Street in Seal Beach is always a plus. Tonight we made a meal of appetizers: the frog legs were exquisite, seasoned with a hint of a souring agent (vinegar?) In perfect proportion, and the meat was so tender and moist and came right off the bone-- best frog legs I've ever had! The poutine contains beef bourguignon in addition to smooth cheese and light crispy fries. The grilled octopus was succulent and we also enjoyed the spicy seafood risotto, Even as we were finishing up, we were talking about when we can come back and get the Family Pack! read more

It's been a few months now but my experience is still on my mind. I will say that the food is great! But the service is horrible. My wife and I were treated so badly by the hostess and the manager (Armand) the hostess gave us a table, but a family of three who were already sitting at a table decided they wanted our table. When I asked the hostess to let them know she gave us the table she ran off like she didn't know what to do. That is when the Manager shows up and tells me he is going to give our table to the family of three who claimed they were waiting, but how can that be if they were sitting comfortably at their table. I will say I would have gladly given them our table but I didn't appreciate how it was taken from us. When I told Armand that we have never been treated so badly at a restaurant and that we would never come back, he said " if you are not going to come back, then why should I help you?" So as we were leaving the restaurant he walks over to the family and apologizes. Wow!!! We had tried to reach out to the owner, but he is never available! The food here was overpriced and not very good, but I could have overlooked that. However, the bartender, who wasn't even our server, caused a scene when my boyfriend didn't have his ID. We were celebrating something special, and while I understand it's his job to check, he didn't need to be so loud about it. My mother and I went on Mother's Day. Reservations were highly recommended however, we just walked in and were sat immediately. Our server was very good and attentive. Gave me a free taste of Chardonnay before I had ordered a full glass. My mother ordered the appetizer, pork bellies, and a baguette with butter. Pork bellies are overcooked, but the baguette was delicious. For an entrée, I ordered the smoked salmon from there brunch menu. The smoked salmon was poor quality, and they only give you a small container of cream cheese for the bagel. My mother requested a cup of coffee which she said was the best she's ever had. We have eaten at the restaurant and the food is great. Today's review is about the wine tasting at the store attached to the restaurant. We finally did a tasting on a Saturday afternoon and we had the best time. Our host was so welcoming and hospitable, and the selected wines were delicious. We bought a bottle and enjoyed more at home. The market that is attached to the restaurant it's just lovely. Adorable little bistro on an adorable street in Seal Beach. Staff and service is beyond amazing plus the food is delicious. I was in with a group this week so we shared a bunch of appetizers that were all quite tasty. The pork belly lollipops though...oh my goodness! Braised pork belly with a honey hoisin sauce. One of the few restaurants in the area that serve French food. It is a small place, but I really like the atmosphere, menu, and owners. Although it is located on Main Street, parking around here is not too terrible because it is adjacent to one of the public lots. I have only been here during lunch hours, so what I tried may be limited compared to others. I really enjoy their country style pate and baguette and their crepe. I also have had their tomato bisque and steak frites. Their food was good, although there is not much to compare in the area. As I mentioned, the owners are really nice. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but they try to get the orders in and the food out so patrons can enjoy their meals. Overall, I like this place and will continue to go back. read more
