We found our favorite Palapa seats over the holiday on Friday July3rd , and the place was slammed but Alex behind the bar handled the rush brilliantly. He was attentive and warm, making us feel completely taken care of even with a packed house. :) Amanda was helpful and on top of everything, and Abe, one of the managers, always has a quiet, steady competence about him that makes the whole place feel grounded. The team works together beautifully. And the food! Gorgeous, generous portions, hot and perfectly executed even during the rush. Steve and I love Palapa. Great vibes and view, service was hella slow, lavender yuzu martini gave me a good buzz but was not tasty at all, and poke nachos were yummy to snack on. Every single time I needed something, whether it was to order or ask for the check, I had to go up to the bar when my server was there to ask cuz I already waited hella. She was super nice so no complaints in that regards, just not good at checking in with our table at all. Even getting a menu took forever. Idk if it's cuz they're short staffed but the service def needs to be improved. The poke was well seasoned and fish was fresh. Great shareable item. I would come back again cuz I liked my friends drinks that I tried (def would not get the lavender yuzu martini again), the food, and the outdoor seating vibes. I stopped by here for drinks after a workout with friends. We chose this establishment over others, because of the outside seating option. If you prefer inside seating, then they had a large bar and a couple tables in side with open windows. They're also part of Ola Kitchen, so you can use their restrooms. When ordering food, they will automatically bring out complimentary chips and salsa. If you order drinks only, then you will have to ask for it. They had a great variety of drinks, but some where too sweet for me like the Strawberry Jalapeno Margarita. The bourbon smash seemed the most well balanced and refreshing. My espresso martini was strong, no complaints here. The outdoor ambiance was lovely for a weekend afternoon. There was plenty of tables available at noon on Saturday. Popped in on a Saturday for a small bite and had no problem getting a seat. You seat yourself...which is a tad confusing since there isn't a hostess or sign. Our server was super prompt! It's the sister restaurant to Ola, so you basically get the same menu-justa. More casual environment eating outside with the bar nearby. We really enjoyed the ceviche-it's fresh and flavorful. The spicy strawberry margarita was perfect-just the right amount of spice (not too spicy) with a few fresh strawberries bits. The lobster tacos are full of large chunks of lobster-Soo yummy. My husband and I went on a Saturday night around 6:30p.m and found a seat immediately. It's pretty laid back so you sit where you want and the waiter came to us right away for a drink order. The chips and salsa are so delicious! I love a fresh crunchy tortilla chip! A plus for restaurants is when they leave the bottled water at your table to pour at your leisure. Nothing I hate more than having to flag a waiter down for a refill. Our waiter was great, kept checking on us through out the evening. My husband had the poke nachos which he loved and I had the rib eye steak enchiladas.. I was a little worried because I ordered well done.. thought I'd be chewing all night but to my surprise the steak was so tender and juicy! The enchiladas were so good! Came here for dinner on a Thursday night. My group had a reservation so we were seated right away. By the time we got there, there's already quite a buzz in the restaurant with the other excited diners. We received excellent service. This place is perfect for groups of any size. Palapa, has an island-themed Tiki bar it has a wrapped around bar with sitting ares. The outdoor dining has an amazing views of the Los Alamitos Marina, the boats and the ocean are just perfect. We came here to celebrate my birthday. They have complimentary tortillas chips. The tortilla chips are seasoned - springle with Tejin lemon flavored and salt. We selected dine at Palapa because of their outdoor dining because we brough our dog and we can only dine outside. The ambience is casual- contemporary with large beautiful outdoor lamps and an area with outdoor fire pit. We ordered the red beet & watermelon salad, fresh guacamole for the tortilla chips, 2 tacos. My daughter ordeted their chicken soup it comes with 2 rolled taquitos, hold down I had a strawberry -Jalapeno Margarita so refreshing so delicious and (Expensive) Keep in mind when ordering any meals it all coming from Ola Restaurant because Jalapa does not have their own kitchen. It may take longer to get the order Ps please don't blame the server. Service was on point he was attentive and friendly. He offered to-go boxes because honesty our eyes were bigger than our appetite. Parking 2nd & PCH has a parking structure the first 90 minutes are free. Palapa is a great spot for a summer evening, beautiful atmosphere and a nice vibe by the water. Unfortunately, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Drinks take an unusually long time to come out, it took 20 minutes just to get a beer on a calm night with no rush. My advice: order two at a time if you don't want to be left waiting. The place has real potential, but the staff and bartenders need to be more attentive. Speaking as someone who's worked in the restaurant industry, I know how much faster and smoother service can be. With a little more attention to guest experience, Palapa could be fantastic. read more

We arrived about 3:15 and were waiting for about 45 minutes without even an acknowledgement of existence.? Who does this? When we asked if they were open, we were met with an irritated and short response of: "4:00!!." Even though the posted hours were clearly on social media and in person as 3:00 and they had opened the doors right after 3:00 and were walking around since we arrived. We were just trying to be patient and polite, albeit highly confused. The yelp hours confirmed being open 3pm. So weird and not ok! This is not a holiday or special occasion. Went on a Friday afternoon during happy hour (3p-6p). We got there right at 3p so wasn't crowded at all. I love the vibe there! Nice view overlooking the marina. It was a perfect day out. Let me tell you something idk if I was starving but this food was soooo delicious. It hit the spot. For appetizers I had guacamole and chips and shrimp ceviche. Everything was so fresh. Only thing I would say is the shrimp was whole. I would have liked my shrimp chopped. My son ordered a carne asada burrito and I had the lobster tacos. I don't really eat beef but I tried a piece of his meat and it was delicious. Had so much flavor. I've never had lobster tacos before but they were awesome. I'm so bad at keeping up with reviews that I don't even remember when it was that I was here. I just know I was and though it started out rocky, overall, I ended up having a good time. Parking. Structure or there's a lot across the street on the water. I can't speak for how much the structure was - but it wasn't cheap. But, I was there for at least four/five hours. I don't know the details for the lot across the street but read the signs. Started out rocky. There wasn't a host/hostess and the bar staff ignored me. So, I just sat myself at a table that wasn't cleared but that's because I didn't want to sit in the lounge chairs or out in the sun. Took a while before someone came by to clear the plates but that said someone would come by to take my order. Didn't happen. I eventually walked up to the bar and asked if I could just place my order with them which finally prompted them to send someone out to help. Service was slow but friendly. Come to find out that there was only one server for the outside tables. Not the server's fault. Management either didn't care to have someone help him, or help him themselves. Anyway ... Drinks and food were decent. My friends and I basically just ordered the menu. See pics. I didn't post all because I both forgot and a few weren't post worthy. Blurry and some too dark. But I did enjoy the drinks as they weren't watered down or too boozy. The mix was balanced and aligned with my taste. I don't remember much about the food except that we cleared the plates. I'm sure I'd remember if it was bad. Had to wait a while for the bill. At one point, we just walked up to the bar to close out the bill. Not sure why the bartender couldn't handle it as we had to wait for the server to get back to the station to handle it for us. So, big question, will I go back. Not sure. When management is content with service or staffing like it was, I liked the drinks enough to want to go back, but I don't want to put the staff thru being forced to run around like a chicken with its head cut off because they're the only one working the floor. read more

Absolutely amazing experience at Palapa! I hosted a celebration get together for my husband's military promotion here and it was everything we could have hoped for. I had emailed a few weeks before and the events manager informed me I couldn't reserve this area on weekends but I could come the day of and separate some tables for our party. My husband and I got there at 1115am and it was almost empty (perfect!) the lovely waitress and angel Arlene greeted us and helped us reserve 3 tables / lounge area for our party of 25. She went above and beyond from putting away the cake in fridge until we were ready to eat, to helping us with drink tickets for our friends since we wanted to treat them all to a few drinks and appetizers. The whole experience was seamless and she was professional and so so so lovely. We loved the drinks- Paloma, margaritas,' micheladas and the food was amazing! Carne asada nachos , ceviche, burritos, flautas, everything! I am sooooo grateful for Arlene's amazing service and will continue hosting more of our get togethers. In honor of this country's Independence from the rigid monarchs of England I would like to give my praises to this stunning little jewel. It's always so hard to chose where to take my mother for lunch when she comes to visit me. First, because there are so many great restaurants in Long Beach and second, because my mom has a hard time making decisions (she's a Sagittarius). I knew I had to pick a place with a view, my mother loves ambiance. I parked at the parking garage which was easy to find and reasonably priced, free ninety nine if you're there for a short time! Palapa is a sister restaurant to OLA which I learned from the friendly hostess whom directed my mother and I to sit wherever we wanted. We were quickly attended by actress, mother and humanitarian Angelina Jolie who took our drink order. I was starstruck but realized she definitely wasn't Angelina, still exuding the same gentle kindness she asked my mother if she had any questions about the menu in Spanish which I thought was incredibly thoughtful and sweet. Thank you for making my mother feel comfortable, Arlene! Hope she's getting a hefty raise for her annual review this year, bilingual speakers in this part of town are rare. We decided on a mother daughter cocktail, two house margaritas which were very citrusy but not a kick of tequila in sight. Being that all Mexicans have an extra vein for tequila built in I was a bit disappointed but enjoyed the lemonade as it was a hot day. The views don't disappoint, you can watch the marina from this place and feel like a real princess. Our food arrived quickly but rolling burritos isn't hard so I expected that. I shared a grilled fish burrito with the matriarch which was perfect for lunch, the fish was great but there was a lot of cabbage in it. I would have also preferred to have that sauce on the side and I was amused with the dry seaweed on top...details I guess. After devouring our salad wrap we had to go because my dog was starting to cuss me out with her eyes. Yes, this place is dog friendly! read more

Hardly any and more sour cream and lime than anything. Lobster Torta... too much bread, a lot of lobster but meh! Not worth $25 Hamachi Crudo... absolutely the most disappointing... not even hamachi... it was white fish & completely gross, we didn't even finish the last 2 bites. We have been to Ola plenty of times but decided to try out the Palapa bar today for a change. We came at about 4pm and the bar seemed pretty packed so we decided to look for a table outside. Our server Mark, seemed to be taking all the tables outside by himself but he immediately cleaned a table for us and grabbed us menus and waters. Although he had a lot of other tables he greeted us and took the time to walk us through the menu and let us know which drinks and food items were his favorite, which beers were available, and other drinks and food he recommended. He was very patient and attentive and never made us feel rushed. He brought our drinks out quickly, our food came out shortly after, and everything was great. Our favorite part of the experience though was our service! In the middle of what seemed to be a very busy time for the bar and for Mark, he made sure to continue checking on us, brought refills, and even made the time to make small talk and ask about our day even though it seemed like he had a lot going on! The mango margarita and strawberry jalapeño margaritas were amazing, the Poke Nachos (Mark's recommendation) were delicious and it was an overall amazing time. As someone who has worked in the service industry this type of service should be commended. Mark cleaned our table, took our order, delivered our drinks and our food and still made time to make sure we had a great time!
