Really small eating space. Especially when the long tables are reserved for what looked like a kids birthday party. Food was actually pretty good. I wish the vegan nachos hadn't had olives since I hate them (note to self for next time). I also wish they had a vegan burger choice. Pinball is in the way back of the building which I didn't initially realize was there. They don't seem to turn on the TVs but they have them all over the place. Not sure why. Service was good but they definitely don't have a lot of staff. I'd go back but only when it's quiet. My husband was happy with the food and beer choices. He had the loaded tots and said they were salty but good. He had to order some extra water. One of the pinball machines is oddly for sale and I didn't quite understand why. I didn't think someone would come to the place and buy it and it didn't seem old fashioned enough to be iconic. A little strange. My husband and I LOVE this place. When we go, we make it is our office date night. We grew up playing these games and we have just as much fun now as we did when we were younger. The food is deliciously creative too. However, we were there last Friday and played Burger Time, Ms. Packman etc and the sounds on those games were turned off. The drinks were reasonably priced and they had Washington apple shots which is one of my favorites. The drink selection is amazing not only for beers but also for mixed drinks that were properly named after video games. Games were so much fun and varied in play style and difficulty. We wanted to like it so much! I had found it online before we left for a 9 day New England trip (3 spent in Salem). We frequent a local Dave & Busters near us at least 1-2 times a week which I know isn't the same thing but I love the combination of alcohol and games. :) Growing up in the 80's, I wanted to get back some of my youth with some of the games at Bit Bar that I played as a child. Walking in, you'd think we were in costumes or carrying weapons. The local crowd there eyed us down and 3 of the 4 staff working there wouldn't even make eye contact with us more or less serve us. Thankfully one male bartender (sorry, cannot remember your name but it was on Sunday night, June 2nd!) was very friendly and attentive and served our drinks each time. We likely would have left immediately if he wasn't there. Look, my partner works at a bar and neither of us are strangers to them. We can get along with anyone. But beyond the one bartender and one drunk patron who started talking to me, it was obvious it's more locals only. It was incredibly uncomfortable and I rarely say that when I'm drinking. Needless to say, every debate we had about going back on the following days ended up in trying other places which was unfortunate. (Forgot to leave about $20 in tokens at the front door for someone to snag them before they opened when we left town). It felt too much like our Maryland dock bars where they eye down tourists from other states hoping they leave faster. While they can't control the patrons, perhaps remind the remainder of the staff that money is the same no matter who it comes from. Disappointed. read more

This is a really unique place with interesting food and drink options. They have an impressive beer list with a lot of local options. They have some weird donut bread that is delicious but way too filling! I like the atmosphere, but it gets really loud at times...Some of the staff is so friendly! I am leaving the bar with very mixed feelings. The food was absolutely heavenly (the pretzels and the tuna bites) and the chef was very sweet and willing to help with everything. The bartender with the green colored hair needs more training on the systems. When we came in she wiped down the table we wanted to sit at near the bar and said she would be back to get our order but she definitely forgot about us and we went up to the bar about 10 minutes later to order from her. She then asked us multiple times what we wanted when I was standing in front of her and she did not know how to input it into toast. It then took about 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks and my friend had to go up to the bar to remind her about us as she had been texting. When we finally got our drinks my friends hot toddy was very strong and she couldn't finish it. Our next round of drinks also took a bit of time and originally the wrong food order was brought to us and then fixed by the chef (who again was fantastic). I then went to the bar to settle my bill and told the green haired bartender exactly what I had ordered all night and she charged me for the entire wrong bill. The girl who was wearing the adventure time costume was excellent and got the chef to fix the situation because she was also unsure of what to do. He voided the original check that was charged to me and charged me for the correct items which was great but it didn't really offset the rest of the night. Went to bit bar on Friday night, met the chef, great guy. Didnt get food, was just there to get a couple beers n play some games. Had the elk burger on a previous visit, one of the chefs ideas. It was delicious and everything is farm fresh. Service is always top notch and they have so many amazing games. From old school 25 cent arcade games to game cube and even a projector setup outside. The place is a blast for beers and games at night and during the day the atmosphere is more family friendly. Highly recommend bit bar to anyone looking for a cool place to hang out and meet new people. read more

They're still somewhat young, so hopefully things will improve a bit as time goes on, assuming they can beat the curse of their location and survive longer than either of their predecessors... Came in on a Friday night around 7, probably 3 or 4 weeks after they opened. Ordered a warm beer, found myself a seat at one of the two nearly-empty tables. Was very promptly yelled at by one of the bartenders that the tables were only for people ordering dinners. Okay... Fought my way down the cramped edges of the room to check out the arcade machines, they definitely had an eclectic selection of games back to the early days of arcades through the 90s or so with staples like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. They even had a real vector Asteroids machine, which I've never seen before in my life! Unfortunately many of the machines had one issue or another, from broken controls to the poor Altered Beast machine by the door with a definite green tint to its display. All in all, it was a decent place and I'd probably come back on a quieter day of the week - I'd dare to say there's a few too many machines crammed into such a tiny space, at least in the main room; the back room was a bit more open and easier to get around. read more

First off, I am used to places with more games and more of a beer selection than Bit Bar, like Barcade in Philly and Brooklyn. But the food is amazing at Bit Bar. I highly recommend the poké tuna tacos and the corn dogs. I also have to say, the service at Bit Bar is phenomenal. The guys working here are amazing. They're extremely accommodating and helpful. We decided to just play around before dinner, and they still took care of us while we hung out playing games, providing us with beverages and whatever we needed. We're locals and we finally decided to check out Bit Bar last week for a costume contest event and we were not disappointed. There are lots of old games (in good shape) in the front and back room of the old jail, but we never had any issues moving around. Most of the games are a quarter each which is a nice change from some of the arcades at the Willows which charge more to play broken games. The atmosphere is enjoyable with all the retro arcade machines plus projectors where they can play both movies and games on console. I need to get back here on a warmer day because I'm told they do gaming with a projector outside too! They seem to have lots of events going on via their Facebook page and that is what initially gave us the reason to visit (lots of videogame events, it would be awesome if they got some bands). The food is mostly snack-sized, so we got a couple things to share and they arrived promptly and were pretty tasty. The food menu is a little funky (elk burgers, grilled salads, etc), so the only thing I would suggest to the owners would be to add some more run of the mill items (AKA, nachos, mozzarella sticks, etc) to have as options. We also enjoyed the large selection of beer and interesting cocktails. They had a new rootbeer cocktail that was delicious and generous on the booze. Our waitress provided us with good service and not one but two of the owners made time to introduce themselves to us and ensure we had a good experience. We will be back again! read more

So my friends and heard about this place and decided to check it out. The atmosphere is dope. I really like the exposed brick. We were all a little intimated by the menu at first glance because there are so many unheard of things on it. We ended up getting some buffalo wings to start off with and let me just say hands down some of the best wings I've had. I ordered the white bean burger w cheese and it was mouthwatering. Also i was surprised to see how big it was. We were all really curious about the elk burger but a little turned off by the bun it was on (crossant donut) so one of my friends took one for the team and ordered it. He seemed very satified, the burger itself was pretty big. We all had an entre, we each had like 2 drinks a peice and i was surprised to see the bill wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was Jessica, she was extremely nice and really pretty!! My friend is severely allergic to a lot of things and Jessica made sure to tend to all of his needs. We stuffed ourselfs so good we couldn't move to play games after but Jessica said they're a quarter each so we'll definitely be back!! This place is still great a year later, with one exception!! The white bean burger is now a black bean burger and it is not good at all!! Visited twice now. What a great concept. Cory our waiter was wonderful, very helpful and friendly. We went with 6 kids between the ages of 9 and 18 and 3 adults on a weekend afternoon. The food was great for appetizers and a great local beer selection (the buffalo popcorn is a must). All the kids were entertained for just a quarter a play for all the old classic games. Great Food, Drinks & Atmosphere! The retro video games are a huge plus, the employees are so nice & helpful! I had 3 different drinks & all were amazing! The ECTO CHASER was my favorite with a perfect blend of flavors.I also loved the PRINCESS PEACH which was deliciously sweet. They had a cider on tap that had a great fruity blend that I couldn't quite place but was wonderful. I highly recommend the Tetris Totes, a kick of buffalo spice with a blue cheese aioli that was a perfect complement! If you don't feel like you can eat a full meal I recommend the Chorizo Corn Dog, the sriracha aioli was perfect. What a great place! From the moment we were seated, we could tell that this would be a really fun night -- it just had that buzz. Eric and his staff were terrific, and my wife and I loved the walking chicken mango taco and the guacamole with bacon. Our daughters were crazy about their elk burgers, and the four of us shared desserts. DO NOT MISS THE AVOCADO ICE CREAM. But the food is just part of it. The background noise of the patrons cheering or moaning as they test their skills against old favorite games (or younger people exploring machines they had never before seen), and the beeps and buzzes of the games themselves create a perfect atmosphere. Used Groupon and went after dinner for date night. The good: drinks were tasty, the games that worked were fun and most were only 1 token, the old courthouse building is neat. The bad: Slowww service. Only one bartender at 10pm on a Saturday night made for a super long wait for drinks. Serving size for the drinks was pretty small given the prices. A handful of the games were out of service and there's not as many games as advertised. If the service improves and you get more drink for your buck, we might go back. read more

The concept is fun, but the food was mediocre, at best. The wings were a little burnt and tasted like they had no sauce at all. They were supposed to be pastrami flavored, which sounded interesting, but no flavor came through whatsoever. The white bean burger was VERY salty, which left me thirsty and wishing it wasn't so hard to get my server's attention for a refill. The service was spotty and inattentive, though the server was friendly. I'd be willing to give it another shot, but I can't imagine risking the food again at those steep prices and given my first experience. Maybe I'll go back for a beer and some games, but at the moment I'm not that excited to return.
