I'm giving this place two stars; one for decor and one for service. After the friendly service and cute ambiance it was all downhill. I've never written a Yelp review before, but felt compelled to do so after the past 30 gut-wrenching hours. My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday at 1:30. The place was fairly busy which we figured was a good sign. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and rice with side salad. When my lunch arrived they'd forgotten to dress the salad, which in the grand scheme of things didn't really matter because I was about to take a bite of something that would keep me in the bathroom for the next 30+ hours. I knew at first glance the chicken wasn't right and had a moments hesitation when I saw the gray color of the meat. I wasn't sure what I'd ordered, i mean...what kind of meat looks like that? But I was famished, so foolishly I dove in, trying to smear the teriyaki sauce over the "chicken" to make it look more appetizing. The consistency was stringy and dry. I smooshed around more teriyaki sauce. It tasted "off" but I told myself it must have been the way the dish had been prepared. I tried to scape some of the rice off the hardened cup that had been inverted on my plate. It, too, was thoroughly unappetizing, but at least i recognized it as rice! Hours later as the pain in my intestines had me writhing on the floor of my bathroom I knew I'd made a major mistake eating at Bites. I hope this review will save someone else from food poisoning and will encourage better safety standards in their kitchen. read more

Heard great things but was disappointed. Took along time to have our order taken (15 min). Wife had calamari salad that arrived before my food but lettuce was warm and calamari cold. By the time a replacement had arrived I was nearly done with my food. Second salad was swimming in dressing and had tomatoes after specifically ordering without. But what was really unfortunate is how smoky it was, and after we left I noticed our clothes absolutely reeked from the smoke. I had the Kalbi burger with Aioli sauce with sweet potato fries. The burger was tasty and filling. The sauce was very good with slight heat to it coming from a person who doesn't like hot I enjoyed it. We also had the Seoul dumplings appetizer. The texture was smooth and good the green onions added a good contrasting crispness and flavor. The sauce was an interesting flavor. It is very hard to describe it was rich with a slight burnt smokey note at the end. My wife had the Garlic Tonkotsu ramen and she enjoyed it. Garlic-y and mellow also a little smokey at the end. This was our first visit and it has been put on the list for a 2nd try. I would recommend for people looking for a new flavor and experience. The atmosphere was nice but the seat on the south wall needs a cushion, tall people will have the sill in the middle of there backs and it's very uncomfortable. We've eaten here a number of times, and while the food has always been tasty and innovative- the hygiene of the establishment has taken a dive. At lunch today there were too many flies to count walking on the tables and bar tops, bus trays filled with very dirty water were easily viewed, and the bathroom was beyond dirty. We very much hope the management will correct these issues before Forest Grove loses another quality eatery! read more

Loved the food and had the best alcohol drink I think I've ever had, and I'm a drink snob (can't for the life of me remember what it's called). We came in at around 11:30 and we were surprised to be the only ones there, as it was prime brunch hour. We were worried at first, but the food was delicious! Asian fusion and close to home? I'm in. Unable to pick only one item, we opted to go tapas style with the kimchi fries, wings, dynamite nachos, and the kalbi tacos. I didn't have any of the wings but my husband liked them. The fries and tacos were both really good. The nachos were okay but very heavy. I would get the fries and tacos again but would opt for something else instead of the nachos. The interior decoration is well done. The service was prompt and polite. We normally love this place but came in and had the worst experience. It was 8:30, you don't close until 9. But it was clear from the time we came in that the server was annoyed we were in there. Upon sitting up, he asked if we were only getting dessert. When someone in our group said I'm going to order an order dish, he briskly walked off without us even finishing ordering. He then came back and asked if we wanted our food to go (we never gave any indication we would want our food to go) but clearly he was ready to go (still nowhere near 9). Then after 20 mins he lets us know they "forgot" to make our food. And wanted to see if we still wanted it. I get it was close to closing time. Stopped in for a late lunch. Fun and open atmosphere. Great menu, as that was what brightens here. The specials menu actually swayed my thinking and went with the kalbi combo. The beef short ribs were well marinated and had a good char from the grill. Kimchee was tasty, bright and spicy. I liked that they served the salad dressing on the side. We heard great things about this place so we decided to have dinner there. I am kind of shocked to see some of the bad reviews because we had an awesome experience. We were greeted and seated quickly and the hostess was very helpful and checked up on us often. We had the 808 burger and the sauce for that was AMAZING! We also tried the Bites Wings and it was very yummy. I played it safe and just got the House Burger and it was good too. We also ordered a beer and the house sake. Don't let the location of this place fool you, not that the area was bad just that we were surprised to find such a great place that was not located in downtown Portland. We tried the Ahi guacamole with chips, and the crab cakes bites and it was fantastic. My husband ordered the 808 burger and it was very tasty. Keola and Jordan are the best servers ever. They were so friendly and helpful. If you don't know what to get cause it all looks soooo good just ask the boys they'll help you get the perfect meal. If you're from Hawaii and feeling home sick they have fresh ahi (tuna) appetizers that are to die for. We also ate the undon carbonara, it's so good it melts in your mouth. Don't forget to check in! The strawberry lemonade you get when you check in is so delicious. Not to mention the setting you are in while enjoying this wonderful meal! It's so hipster, and inviting for all ages.
