Very solid Mexican restaurant! The salsa had some good heat and it was cool that they make their chips homemade. I had the chicken fajitas and my husband had the chicken milanesa. We were both very satisfied with our meals. The vibe felt very authentic and comfortable, which we appreciated. Service was a little slow, but understandable considering how busy it was. Enorabuena! Yes, congratulations for returning to the glory of your early opening days! The food last night was a true "10"! I always come back, waiting a few months and tonight was TRULY magnifico! Muchisimas gracias! I ADORE Hispanic spices and middle eastern spices. Mom was born raised in Los Angeles so we grew up with delicious Mexican food ( and loved it each visit to LA visiting Los abuelos.). Last night's enchiladas were six small rolled corn tortillas filled with beef, baked smothered in a perfect red sauce smothered with crumbles of white cheese( and some in the green sauce their " Christmas enchiladas") with soft subtle rice and truly excellent black beans with a delicate flavor. Every mouthful was pure heaven. The table next to us was filled with six Hispanic ladies from SMH hospital who ordered giant Tortas and large beautiful platters. They JOYOUSLY savored each bite. My husband had the steak fajitas which he happily inhaled with corn tortillas, lettuce tomatoes and cheese ( almost no leftovers!). We also love their carne asada. Service was A+. They're very friendly and don't mind explaining the dishes. The restaurant has a beautiful authentic charm and is not loud like so many restaurants are these days. One down side was the number of tortilla shells. They only give you four and they're small. So you run out of shells with more food to wrap. The steak was tender but could've had a bit more flavor. If you like good Mexican and fresh food, you have to visit this restaurant in Sarasota, it is something you will never forget, the taste of their food. I ordered the Combo Fajitas, with rice, mashed beans and lettuce, I also ordered coconut soup, it is unbelievable, the room that prepared the food is in my opinion a professional chef, how it all looked for the eyes, let alone to eat. Had seen this place for a while and decided to give it a try. Am I glad we did! The service was so friendly and welcoming. The chips and salsa you could tell were homemade and very delicious. We ordered the Chimichanga and the Carne Asada. The Chimi was huge and so flavorful. The Carne Asada was cooked perfectly and was also full of flavor. We both really loved the refried black beans. A really special Mexican restaurant with a very unique menu... My wife and I wanted to try something different today so we went to Siesta Key to try our luck there, but yet again, to no avail - it was busy for an early Sunday dinner. Not wanting to wait (or honestly deal with the horrible parking situation on that island) we asked ourselves what we really wanted to try on our penultimate night in Sarasota - Mexican it was! After searching through Yelp, I came across this little, inconspicuous place located not very far from where we were staying. So, off in a flash (or at least as fast as the equally horrible traffic on Siesta Key allows - did I mention it was a Sunday?) We arrived at a nondescript strip mall where the one end was this restaurant, you get to seat yourself and soon enough our waitress was at our table. Service was very friendly, very helpful, and very accommodating to our questions and requests for refills and whatnot - she took good care of us. Now, the menu - it was by far and large the most unique Mexican restaurant menu I have ever come across. They labeled their dinner entrees as traditional Mexican favorites - but over half the menu was unknown to me - meaning, I had never heard of some of these offerings or plates. And to me, that was a great thing. After long deliberation I chose the Machete - a corn tortilla that they grill and fill with your protein of choice (I chose chorizo) and added gooey cheese as a plus. My sides were a Mexican salad (pico de gallo with shredded lettuce) along with yellow rice. It was supremely delicious. My wife had their tortilla salad which she enjoyed as well. It was an early Sunday afternoon, so we kinda beat the dinner crowd, but I sure do hope the locals are showing this Mexican restaurant the love it deserves - their unique menu is unparalleled in my opinion. read more

The place for my attention as I was driving by so I decided to take a look. I ordered beef enchiladas. Food was good, very homemade, very simple. Nothing fantastic or fancy about it. I was disappointed they didn't have real mole sauce but other than that the service was decent. I didn't see anything festive or inviting about the place. It might need a little more lively scene and probably a bar. I'm not sure what kind of concept are they trying to go for but it felt more like a bodega than a restaurant. We took a chance with this place not really reading up on it or having been there before. To our delight, this was a pretty good spot for Tacos/Mexican food. It was in a shopping plaza kind of hidden but had ample parking. The staff greeted you when you walked in and was very friendly. Service was pretty fast. The atmosphere was kind of mom & pops which I like when it comes to Mexican food anyways. Great lighting and design. We both ordered tacos. Chips and salsa was complementary and very, very good. The tacos were authentic and tasty. You have your choice of corn or flour tortilla's and several different types of toppings. Prices are very affordable. I paid only $8 total for two people to eat two tacos each and munch on chips & salsa. Yes it was taco Tuesday so there was a special but still, come on...you can't beat this! Complimentary chips and salsa.. the salsa is watered down salsa or just salsa juice without the tomatoes. It was like dipping my chip in water. Chips appear homemade. My husband ordered chicken and steak taco. He liked it. I got a steak taco salad. The taco bowl itself was crunchy and yummy. And the guacamole was bomb! As for the contents, I ate some and got a to go box. Threw away as soon as I got home. My lettuce was wet and soggy, the steak was dry and flavorless. This is a fun looking local restaurant and the food and service probably varies. However if someone orders takeout, I feel like their order should be somewhat streamlined, I sat for 30~ minutes after ordering to get the food, which I guess means it's pretty fresh, but I also noticed several people came in and out while I was there. I mean I also paid a tip just like the people being served without being able to sit down and enjoy my meal like the other customers. The enchiladas were sooo loaded with the green tomatillo sauce and it was so acidic I felt the heartburn sliding down my throat lol. They were very stingy on the sides (tomatoes and sour cream despite being in the description) the refried beans weren't the ones I was expecting when you typically see it in a menu. I asked if they were and they said yes but they were black beans. And the meat in my appetizer was already slightly cold when I got it... so I wonder how long my food was sitting around. Not happy with how much the food was and how long I had to wait, and kind of the way I was treated for food that was surprisingly sub-par. If you know good Mexican food or have had some (which I used to live in Southern California) then you can tell this could be better. The younger guy then prepared my order and I believe he whistled at me to get my attention. What? Haha, sir this isn't band practice and I shouldn't have to explain why you shouldn't do that to anyone. LOL. I wanted to be a fan of this cute local place because of how it looks, and how it seemed like it would have been, along with other peoples reviews, but I am unfortunately not. TL;DR: food was surprisingly not that good, pricing is not super great either for what the food is, service..... maybe depends on who is working with you, but maybe you'll get lucky!
