It was a snowy Sunday at 10 am and our wait was only 10 minutes. We sat at the very comfy counter. I'm short and don't typically like counter seats but I had no problem with these chairs. All the staff were very friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. Not a huge menu, had plenty that I eat though. HOLY BRUNCH! Wow! This is my new favorite brunch spot, not just in Thurston county but I think maybe in all of Washington. My friend recommended this place and I was a bit skeptical since I believed it was just a cafe that had smoothies and small breakfast items. I was completely wrong. I had the special pancakes which were lemon goat cheese with a triple berry compote. Out of this world amazing. Seriously. My wife had the "special breakfast" which she loved and ate every bit of. Our three friends each had the burrito special and it looked fantastic. I also had a strawberry banana smoothie with no yogurt, sub coconut milk, and I drank all of it on top of eating the majority of my pancakes. This is such a hidden gem in Olympia. Tucked back in the West Side next to the Coop, you would never believe you could get such fantastic food. I almost hesitate to tell everyone this secret since I want to keep the lines short! After doing some black Friday shopping my sister and I were hungry and are always looking for a "cute" spot not just our usual. We found this place nearby and drove over. There is limited parking but we really didn't have trouble finding a spot. The outside is cute and cozy. The menu was smaller but perfect with plenty options for anyone. We tried the bagel and chive cream cheese to share, and she did the fancy special while I went traditional. We grabbed a seat at the counter where the stools could stand to have been set a tad bit farther out as anyone that's tall (my sis) had squished knees. But the fun part is getting to watch them cook and engage with them over the counter. (Plus BOTH chefs were women which is awesome). The wonderful woman working the register was SO friendly we could've stayed and chatted with her as our new friend. The food... AMAZING. It was so fresh and hot and well made. This small but adorable cafe has some great home cooked foods. You do not need to order at the counter, the waitress will come to your table. I got the scramble which was a great egg dish with unusal ingredients like purple cabbage and broccoli which added enjoyable texture and flavor. The potatoes were lightly salted and the fruit was thinly sliced and delicately presented. We got a jam that tasted like a combo of strawberry and raspberry which must have been homemade. My friend even got free toast with her meal. I tried some of my other friend's "special breakfast" and the balsamic was exceptional and it even came with two pieces of toast. Wow! I looked up breakfast and brunch spots around me and this place popped up. It is a converted old grocery store (I think that makes it so much cooler). The building was built in 1904 and was the first grocery store in the area to offer fresh produce. A trolley actually brought people from all over Thurston County so they could purchase fresh food. After that, this was a convenience store (Eddie's) and is still owned by the SAME Eddie. There isn't much parking at the restaurant but, there is a LOT of street parking. There is a pastry case that will hold fresh grab and go lunches like salads, spring rolls, and sandwiches in the next few days. As for my food, I had the Special Breakfast for $12. To say that it was good is an understatement! The toast was perfectly crunchy, the goat cheese was melted, the greens were wilted with a little bite to them, and the poached eggs were what eggs dream of being. The restaurant just went from weekends only to 7 days a week (7am-2pm M-F & 8am-2pm weekends). They are also open at 6pm on Tuesdays for game night! So, what are you waiting for? I've waited a long time to post a review (too long) because I didn't know how to put my love of all things Bits into words that did it justice. The food: I have never had something here that didn't give me a full on mouth-gasm. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the flavors are always on point. ALWAYS try the specials, but the everyday menu is just as amazing, not to mention the variety of delicious (and healthy!) smoothies they have. They also make the absolute best almond milk flat white I've ever had. The environment: The atmosphere here is so serene and cozy, from the decor to the music it's a wonderful place to sip coffee, chat and play games. It's adorable and classy and so well done. I also love sitting at the counter watching the absolute BEASTS in the kitchen work their magic. The staff: I have nothing but good things to say about every person I've interacted with here. Everyone is genuine and kind, the owner is so sweet and our regular server Olivia is incredible. We just had the best breakfast at Bits Cafe! We had 3 different items from the breakfast menu and they were all excellent. I had a wonderful veggie breakfast with delicious mixed vegetables, hand cut potatoes, black beans and wonderful olykraut. So good. And served with sour dough toast that is baked locally, topped with strawberry jam. And it's in a lovely historical building with a sunny window table. This place was highly recommended to us and we were excited to visit. It was definitely what we were hoping a small cafe with great food. Unfortunately we were not able to expire e the great food because the customer service was horrible. We were served water and the waitress didn't acknowledge us we sat and waited for anyone to take our order. Employees were just hanging around the cash register. Another gentleman walked in 10 min after us and was help immediately. The waitress walked by multiple times. Thrilled to have this sweet café a few blocks from my house! serving smoothies, yummy bagels and schmear (I recommend the everything with smoked salmon cream cheese and cucumbers) and beer/wine. Only thing missing at the Westside co-op is beer/wine.. now you can pick up a 6 pack or a bottle of wine for dinner right next door at Bits!! It can sometimes take a moment to get your coffee if there is a line but give 'em a break as they settle in and iron things out.
