Enjoyed a wonderful meal with my children. The secret I have learned is to make your reservations nice and early (meaning when you book, not necessarily early in the evening). Destiny was our server and he was very attentive. Kids had soda and I had a glass of Matua ($12). It was fruity and bold for a Sauvignon Blanc. For appetizer we all shared the French onion soup. An oversized crock, with endless cheese and onions. Surprisingly I found myself adding both salt and pepper. Didn't detract from the delicious flavor- perhaps they cater to a crowd palette that is more neutral. I'd order again. Son had chicken fingers and fries off the kids menu (ate them all, shocker). Daughter had Bigsby burger and really enjoyed it and I had the shrimp and grits at the recommendation of our server, Destiny. Do not sleep on the Shrimp and Grits. I know you're going to be lured by the delicious looking chicken parm- trust me, this was a hard decision. It almost came down to a coin flip. On the one hand the chicken parm swimming in spaghetti with vodka sauce kept coming out of the kitchen ordered in popularity much like an assembly line at a wedding with one food choice. But on the other hand, the promise of blacked shrimp, blister tomatoes, chorizo and cheesy grits swimming in pan juice........ so what made me decide? Destiny say the four magic words "if you're looking for a cream dish." Yes, I know, more than 4 words but my brain only heard "looking for creamy dish". All in all I'd revisit Bixbys. When visiting water park restaurants you need to have managed expectations. The staff is going to be grossly UNDERSTAFFED, and working tons of overtime. They are tired. They are doing the best they can. Smile, enjoy, ask them how they are doing- it's funny how when you put good out there, good returns. Looking forward to returning!

    Pork buns - too salty.

I was nervous after reading all the horrible reviews. I was pleasantly surprised - we had a great meal. The burger was fantastic! Cooked to perfection with caramelized onions and crispy bacon. My husband had the salmon which he enjoyed. The chopped salad was very good with the right amount of dressing - it was a shallot vinaigrette. The pork buns appetizer was ok - too salty for me. It took away from the flavor. The service was just fine - I will say though they had just opened and we were the first table seated. We were seated in a cozy comfy booth that had a private feel. Very tall booths. The kids enjoyed their meals.

This is the result of waiting for so long with no information from the staff, my niece eating cup o noodles. Great time at Kart'wrong'

7:15 reservations, the time is now 8:45. Still no food, no apps. We were offered croutons...yes croutons will fill my 7 year old niece's stomach. Literally every single table that came in after us got their food. After numerous complaints to multiple people, they offered no resolution. All they said was "there's nothing I can do". BS! How can there be no back up plan? The least they should have done is stop everyone else's order and rush out ours since we've been there for more than an hour. Please fire your kitchen staff and "managers" or at least train them better. F Kartrite, F Bixby's

App was the only part I loved. Still waiting for the rest of my food almost an hour later.

Really sad to leave this review as it started out great but really went downhill fast. We did the Hudson Valley Week special which was $44 a plate. The apps were great but our main was totally cold and we had to ask for our check before we even got the rest of our meal because service was so very slow. Even after asking for the check and the rest to be boxed we have sat here for about 20 minutes just waiting. Had the potential to be great but was just a flop. Definitely should not be on the Hudson Valley Week list.

So, here we are after a few rounds of trivia (which was the best part of the dining experience). I ordered two apps, pretzels and Philly cheese steak rolls. You can't mess those up, right?! Our food arrived and my Philly rolls look like they were cooked last week. I bit into one of them and it tasted like it was cooked last week. I moved on to the pretzels, WOW, I don't know how a pretzel could taste like it was a month old. The honey mustard nor the salt covered up the stale taste. We told our waiter about the food. He seemed to get upset as if he had cooked the food himself. He asked with an attitude, "would you like to talk to my manager?!" I replied, "sure, I would like to tell him about the food." Our waiter walked over to the manager, Chez and told him he wanted to speak with him. The manager, Chez has literally been talking with two people for over 20 mins (they seem to be friendly). He clearly has no desire to discuss how we felt about the food here. I'm pretty sure he is avoiding us bc he doesn't want to talk about this crap they call food! So, I will gladly tell people to avoid this place like the plague. I wouldn't eat here if they offerred me free food for the rest of my life. The food and unprofessionalism of the staff will be enough to close this place soon.

GREAT MEMORIES!!!! An absolutely wonderful place! I worked…read morethere in the summers of 1958 and 1959 when I was in high school. Art Rohman still owned the place and tended bar seven days a week. I used to set up pins in the bowling alley when there were bowlers. My mother and grandmother knew Rohmans probably for about fifty years back then. Wonderful people to work for and with. Art Rohman must have been in his seventies at the time and a font of history. He provided us free lunch, although he did not serve food to the public then. The hotel had stopped functioning as a hotel by then. Mr. Rohman lived in one of the rooms as did one of his bartenders. His nephew Nick lived in the house left of the front of the hotel and worked as a bartender. Before I arrived, Mr. Rohman had had his own barber living in the hotel. When that was discontinued, he would drive across to Barryville to go to Trevor's barbershop (on River Road) who was also the Justice of the Peace. That and going to funerals were the only time he left the building. He never waited at Trevors. John Trevor used to ask the person whose hair was being cut to leave the chair so that Mr. Rohman could get his shave. Sometimes there were three or four people waiting for a haircut. Mr. Rohman always paid for the haircuts of those he cut in front of. I do remember the great baseball pitcher Smoky Joe Wood coming in periodically for a case of beer which I would carry out for him. There was also the mail car on the train which went around 4:00 every afternoon. A six pack (cost a dollar then) was run out to the mailcar every day. They never tipped. Sundays were a spectacle. PA. had Blue Laws which prohibited bars from being open on Sundays. Rohman's was exempt. The Catholic Church was a few hundred yards away. When service let out, most of the attendees walked down the street and into Rohman's. On that day Mr. Rohman was known as Father Rohman. I was told that Rohman's was open all through prohibition. Politicians then were no different than today, although it was probably cheaper to bribe them. The boarding house trade was going strong back in the 1950s. There were many in the area. Pre-lunch cocktails were a regular routine for the boarders. I used to bus tables and restock the bar (only fresh fruit in all the drinks). At around 11:30 AM the place would fill with boarders. I would guess that there were more than 100 patrons crowding the place. Then it would empty as they went back for lunch (12:30 I think). Kids were welcome. My parents used to take me there when I had to stand on a chair to play one of the two pinball machines. Rohman would often come over and throw a bunch of nickels onto the machine for us kids to use for additional games. Nighttimes were crazy. Whatever the capacity of the bar, you couldn't get another person or table into the barroom. There were five bartenders on at night and often the customers were five deep at the bar. Friday nights were the worst. Husbands used to come up from the city on the train after work and walk right across the tracks into Rohman's to join their wives. Busing tables was difficult because you couldn't navigate around the room. There were three doors across the front (railroad side). To get to the other end of the bar I would go out the nearest door, walk to the farthest door and re-enter there. Getting back with a tray full of glasses and ashtrays retraced the route. A great place! I am tempted to come up from NC to revisit the old times. The name I use is a pseudonym. I have a website at www.economicnoise should anyone want to discuss this part of my youth further. I had many good times in the Barryville -- Shohola area and good friends. I considered Art Rohman a friend despite our considerable age difference.

The hotel itself is cozy, full of charming little spaces, and we truly felt pampered throughout our stay. It's pet-friendly (huge plus!), and everyone was incredibly kind to my dog--he had the best time exploring the hiking trails with me. The vibe is very relaxed, peaceful, and the perfect place to disconnect from the world. Now for the real star of the show: the food. We did the tasting menu and it was so good. I loved the intention behind each dish and how they highlighted seasonal ingredients and the local farm sources. My personal favorites were the mushroom dish and the venison--both were phenomenal. The staff was warm, attentive, and did a great job walking us through each course. A few small observations: The dining room was a little too dark--I love seeing my food, especially when it's so beautifully presented. Since it was my birthday, I expected a bit more than a lone candle. No cookie, treat, or even a candle placed on top of dessert--it just didn't feel special. Dessert wasn't for me. It was somewhere between a milkshake and ice cream, but with a strange mochi-like texture and an overpowering amount of lavender. It felt like eating soap. The quail course tasted amazing, but the presentation wasn't appealing. It looked a bit messy, and leaving the head on (even though it wasn't edible) felt off. That said, everything was incredible--thoughtfully crafted, delicious, and visually stunning. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and the whole experience. Highly recommend--can't wait to return!

My party of 4 was a little early, so we had a drink in the tavern downstairs first; bartender made a great whisky sour. For dinner, we did the a la carte menu. I tried: + Cabbage + Ricotta toast + Grilled broccoli + Mangalista pork chop + Ricotta dumpling + Cheeseburger + Spiced cake The highlights were the cabbage, pork chop and burger. Overall I thought the food was excellent, though I wished they offered sides (especially some type of a potato for the burger). Would have gladly paid for additional sides a la carte.

It's an old theatre so quite historic to be eating inside. The decor is very unique like you walked into someone's home for dinner with the family. The food is made fresh. Lettuce and tomato are organic, beef is never frozen, they have fresh home made potato chips. Their burger is HUGE on a brioche bun. It's the greasy gourmet burger that is filling and worth the money. Their Cajun shrimp Mac and cheese is delicious! Ending it with their organic Mexican coffee was the perfect dessert. Only thing to remember is that there's no bathrooms so you have to go next door to Nellys sports bar. With that in mind, there's one chef making all the food so you sacrifice some time for fresh made food which is still well worth it. There's street parking in front of the store.
