This was my 1st visit to this restaurant, and I ordered my food to go. I ordered a bacon blue burger, chocolate chip and butter pecan cookies, and a savory 'pop tart'. The burger was massive, delicious and cooked medium rare as I'd ordered it. The fries were tasty, too. The cookies though - if you love super soft and rich cookies you will love these! So buttery and warm, and the pecan cookie was loaded with nuts. The owner (or chef?) explained everything is cooked to order - even those yummy cookies. Wow! Glad to have found this hole in the wall place in the area. It looks like an unassuming bakery from outside but the food and owner/chef is very welcoming. It's an old theatre so quite historic to be eating inside. The decor is very unique like you walked into someone's home for dinner with the family. The food is made fresh. Lettuce and tomato are organic, beef is never frozen, they have fresh home made potato chips. Their burger is HUGE on a brioche bun. It's the greasy gourmet burger that is filling and worth the money. Their Cajun shrimp Mac and cheese is delicious! Ending it with their organic Mexican coffee was the perfect dessert. Only thing to remember is that there's no bathrooms so you have to go next door to Nellys sports bar. What an amazingly "sweet" space on the main drag in Monticello. The owner is a trained pastry chef and could not be any more welcoming and excited about sharing her delicious treats. We got a bunch of cookies and it was so delightful to taste actual quality butter, as opposed to store-bought massive production cookies. VERY sweet woman from Manhattan runs this place. I stopped in for coffee while I was shopping for a caffeine boost, when most other places had closed at 4. She showed me all her collected high brand teas, was super helpful and generous. Offered to remake it totally because she thought the tea bag may have torn (it was still absolutely great, no loose leaves). Lots of baked goods available too. Highly recommend all vegans visit this spot on their trip through the Catskills. We got the vegan chicken noodle soup with the bread bowl which was perfect for the fall/winter weather outside. The soup was delicious and good portion. We also got 2 vegan chicken sandwiches. For starters, the vegan chick'n patty is homemade in store and the BEST we've ever had. We travel often and have tried many Chick'n patty's, but this is the best by far. It tastes like real chicken (even better actually). I want to say this in the kindest way possible because I truly mean these are the best we've had, but the sandwiches were a bit over spiced. These sandwiches are the real deal and so flavorful on their own. They don't need all that sauce on the sandwich because the flavor is so amazing on its own. Next time I would request no seasoning/sauce on my sandwich because we enjoyed the sandwich so much just as it is. Came for a late lunch on a Sunday. The tuna Niçoise salad (a special) was amazing - it had fresh tuna - and I really liked the basil Mac and cheese, too. Support your locals. We met the chef and treated us well. The place is small and cozy. Recommend reservations. Lively décor and local folks who have lots to talk about and we enjoyed their convos. The burger was simple and delicious. The spicy chicken sandwich was nicely spiced. I would forgo the cake and cookies, unless fresh, and have the small cheesecakes. Check out this cozy little place with a terrible decor but a giant heart and giant food. The most important feature is the owner, Inez. Sweet, big-hearted, passionate, and energetic, she obviously loves her food and her folks. She also loves to create new concoctions and it's all over the map. At the core are the burgers. That's her thing. But she also makes the pastries in the front, which are so expertly crafted that I figured she must be buying those. How do you turn out pro-quality pastries in that tiny kitchen??? And she says she wants to do French dishes. If I were Inez's business consultant, I'd say stick to the basics, especially for a small place, but she seems motivated to create. My burger, a mind meld of the sloppy joe and the bacon burger, is a case in point. Creative, heartfelt, but flawed. Overly salty and not especially saucy. But even given that, I would come back again and again if I were local. I would also tell her to raise the prices by $1. I mean, who serves anything for $5? And the decor needs work. It's a small place, sparse, and a little heavy on the plastic. But we don't go here for the decor, do we? Come here and enjoy the love, the creativity, and Inez's larger than life personality. I tried this place for lunch for the first time today and I don't know why I put off trying it for so long! Im a bug foodie & let me tell you, it was amazing! I got the seafood bisque and cajun shrimp mac & cheese. The soup was one of the best ones I've had in a long time! A ton of seafood for the price & it was super tender and not chewy! Each dish is freshly prepared. But in every other aspect this 'eatery' fails, and EVERY SINGLE REVIEW FAILS. And it pains me to write this because I want the owner/cook/server/dishwasher/mother-of-two to succeed and I wish her nothing but the absolute best, but she needs help... The storefront is the opposite of inviting. It is empty and disheveled. But we looked past that because of the reviews. We went in and sat down, and were seriously overcome by fruit flies. At this point we normally would have left, but we stayed and looked past that because of the reviews. The table and chairs wobbled and were uneven. They were also dirty and unwiped, but we looked past that because of the reviews. The menus were dirty, ragged and stained, but we looked past that because of the reviews. The decor was non existent. Barren walls with photocopied pics in tiny frames,fluorescent lighting and no ambient noise whatsoever....but we didn't care because we expected awesome food... The food was ok. Not worth 5 stars. Perhaps it was super fresh and healthy, but we lacked confidence it would pass a safety inspection and it lacked consistency. A delicious truffle burger was topped with iceberg lettuce and Hunts ketchup. The bottoms line is that this is less a restaurant/cafe and more your mom's kitchen that makes a decent burger. And sometimes mom forgets to clean, and the tv is broke, and she won't stop going on about her hardships...but you love her anyway and you want nothing but the best for her. Perhaps you caught her on a bad day, but you can't expect it to get much better. Mom needs more help in the worst way. I hope the 'eatery' thrives in the future. For real. We walked into this hidden gem and wasn't sure what to make of it. 5 tables, and an empty pastry case, certainly didn't spell "amazing" for what I'm used to. The woman that greeted us, wasn't sure what to make of us either, asking if "we were just looking around". My wife would have walked out right there. I had a good vibe, so we stayed. We looked at the menu, and there were a ton of choices, and all of which looked and sounded great. The "hostess" was the owner, and chef. Being from the city, she was ready to go. She explained that all of the ingredients were fresh, never frozen. Meat ground daily on premise, and all fresh breads. My wife ordered the caprese chicken sandwich, my daughter got the 8oz cheese burger with fresh cut fries, my youngest got the homemade Mac & cheese, and I told her "dealers choice". She made me the "moms burger" with thick applewood bacon, cheese, fried egg and bbq sauce on a 12oz burger. I'll just say what my middle daughter said "that was the best burger I have ever had"! She ate this entire monster burger, and all her fries. My wife's chicken sandwich was huge, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection and super juicy! My little ones Mac and cheese was baked and was creamy and the perfect blend of cheeses with a nice crust on top! My burger was out of control. Delicious, juicy, cooked medium rare and the bread was fresh and crispy outside, soft brioche inside. All in all, it was a great dining experience. We were the first customer she had that day, but, another couple came in with the same skepticism as I did, and she was genuinely impressed when they saw our food come out, and they stayed. I couldn't recommend this restaurant anymore than I am. This chef, shouldn't be in a town of 50, but in an Uber trendy downtown gastro pub! Hats off to the mom of two great kids (doing their thing in the back of the restaurant and not at all annoying, perfectly fine by these parents that get to see their mom working hard and chasing her dream!). So after almost a year of walking past Savory Sweet Eatery at 452 Broadway in Monticello and wondering about their window advertised Stuffed Burgers, the restaurant is FINALLY open!!! It's a small place, a bit spartan on the decor, and with all the signs of a newly opening place still working out the newness and filling in the blanks, but their homemade chips, homemade ketchups (4 different flavors) and MASSIVE burgers make it all alright. Pilar and I went for dinner tonight and as you can see by the pictures the menu is rather limited as Ines the owner/chef is attempting to fill a niche she feels would fit in perfectly on Broadway. I opted for the Mom Burger with homemade chips WELL DONE ALMOST BURNT same as I like my fries and frankly the burger was M-A-S-S-I-V-E!! Flintstones Brontosaurus Burger style!! I'd never had a burger with a fried egg on it and it was definitely a new taste for me and a good addition. Pilar had a semi-normal sized burger from the other side of the menu which was still huge by normal standards. She could only finish half of hers!! Ines was the perfect hostess, very friendly and filled with brilliant ideas for her new eatery. She caters, bakes cookies and cakes to order, has an ice cream freezer with several different flavors on top of what the menu has. She said she plans on changing the menu every once in awhile and will be having homemade soups, of the hearty variety, come fall and winter. Love this place Hidden Gem The owner has a plethora of culinary experience . Her food is great and she can cook an array of dishes. She best known her delicious burgers , Mac and cheese and her pastries. A few months ago I ordered her black bean burger which was delicious with a bed of mix green salad. She also put some vegan chocolates in my bag so I can sample them. They were decadent and delicious . I'm vegan and recently I visited the restaurant to buy some non-alcohol beer along with non- alcohol spirits. What I appreciate about the owner she let me sample the drinks before I decided which one I wanted to purchase. I brought a dark beer and an IPA which i didn't sample but did not disappoint. I love the taste of beer .This beer has 0.5% or less alcohol and the full bodied beer taste that will make you think your drinking regular beer. I love my mock tequila which I did sample . I tried that with orange juice ..Love it!! Next I'm going to seat and drink some coffee. I tried a sample the other day and it was enjoyable.
