This place is the best! I've been coming to Biyoshi's for 14 years. Rachel always finishes my hair with beautiful curls, I love it. Just recently, we did a body wave and it came out beautifully!! I love this place so much, I turned my mom on to Warren. She has very thick hair and it is difficult to work with, but Warren it comes out amazing! She is always so happy with his work too! Want AMAZING HAIR at an amazing value??? As a grad student, I can no longer throw away hundreds for a cut + color. So I asked my sister, who always looks like she stepped out of a salon where she goes and she recommended Biyoshi. I've gone three times to Sharon and loved every cut and experience. Here's my rating: Haircut - 5 stars. Sharon spent a lot of time listening to what I want, and made sure I walked out with beautiful hair. She knows how to cut and shape each layer to make it fall perfectly. She spent a lot of time on me (45-1 hour), and even hand curled my hair with the blowdrier and hair brush. Even if it was getting late, she would ask politely if I was happy with the resulting haircut. Flexibility Rating - 5 stars Stylists are willing to work with your schedule, and won't rush you. The goal is to make sure you love your hair Atmosphere Rating - 4 stars Stylists offer you tea, lemonade, and once there was chocolates. Value- 5 stars I got an amazing high-end shampoo, haircut, and blowdry for $36 since I'm a student. AMAZING!! My mother has a penchant for stopping random people on the street and asking where they got their hair cut. This review is a byproduct of one of these random encounters. Per my mother's recommendation, I decided to try out Biyoshi in 2006. I don't remember the cut very well, so I must have at least been satisfied by the results. Recently, I decided to revisit the place because I needed my bangs cut and I didn't want to drive to my regular hairdresser who is further away. I called and made an appointment and Biyoshi cut my bangs for free! (I am happy with my new bangs, by the way.) Great service and Biyoshi and his staff are super nice as well. Since I first came here in late March of 2012, I have been recommending Biyoshi to anyone who's looking for a place in the area. I have gotten haircuts from several different hairdressers, including Biyoshi himself. If you are looking for a haircut and you aren't the type to enjoy sitting in a salon for hours, then Biyoshi is a good option for you. I knew I could count on this salon for a relatively quick, long layered trim or cut with a touch-up for my bangs. Always looked good and service is great. Most times I didn't make a prior appointment and just called the day of to make sure there was an opening. Fun fact: one time while I was there, someone was walking her dog by the salon and the dog stopped right in front. Biyoshi went out to give the dog a treat. Apparently, this was routine for them. Love this! However, at this time I absolutely cannot recommend getting color done here, especially if you want something trendy like an ombre. I mistakenly did not do enough research beforehand but had a few reference pictures with me on my phone. I wanted my hair to transition to a light brown color, but what I ended up with was a yellow that was a lot lighter than I had pictured. I did hesitate upon seeing the color while at the salon, but was told to give it about a week to get used to it and if I don't like it, we can definitely get it toned down. The colorist was very affable during the process and after - the next morning I got a voicemail from her checking to see how I was feeling about the color, which I really appreciated. However I decided to take her advice to heart and left for a business trip the next day, thinking maybe it just looked off to me because of the initial shock. However the color quickly turned into a bright yellowish orange and I called a couple weeks later. She had me come in that night and she put toner in my hair at no charge, which helped for a little while but rapidly reverted to brassy galore. Using purple shampoo didn't seem to have much effect. Unfortunately it seems that she lightened my hair much too quickly and in one process - have to say the orange and dead-looking hair has been pretty embarrassing (sometimes Instagram filters help hide the brass ;) ). I would have much rather been told if the color I wanted wasn't attainable or had to be separated into several processes. Since then I've done a lot more research on ombre/balayage/coloring/bleaching and started going to an amazing colorist. read more

When I decided I wanted a completely different hairstyle, I was recommended to come here. I had really long hair and wanted to cut it short. I had a specific cut in mind and knew that if I went to any other hair salon it would be a disaster. Biyoshi/Warren did a really amazing job! I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair cut. Even months after when I'm at the awkward phase of short hair / medium length hair, I am still getting good feed back on the cut. I think what's most important here is that I had a vision/expectation of what I wanted my hair to look like and Biyoshi/Warren was able to execute that. read more

It's been sooooo long since I've written a yelp review... Wasn't going to come out of my hiatus but this place really deserves the high ratings that they get. I was scheduled with Rachel, which I was pretty nervous about because many of the reviews I read were about other stylists, not her. But I'm so glad I got her! She did an amazingggg job. I am one of those girls who don't really believe in hair cuts. Before this appointment the last time I had a hair cut was almost three years prior. Besides trimming my bangs, I just let my hair grow. (I'm an avid long hair lover). My hair is like my baby... I don't like putting her in the hands of just anybody. The biggest problem I face with hair stylists is them not accomplishing exactly what I want. Usually they get pretty close to how I would like it, but either the bangs are a bit too short, or the layers are a bit too choppy etc.. but Rachel was great. She got everything exactly how I wanted. She really listened to me and never questioned what I wanted. I have extremely damaged hair (I love to color my hair myself) and most artists always try to push me to get conditioning treatments or cutting it all off and she didn't do either. AND the pricing is so reasonable! $38 (for students) & a $10 for a haircut is not bad. Especially when you get exactly what you want. I've gone back to Biyoshi several time now since my first visit and I couldn't be happier. I looooove Warran! He is the loveliest person and truly aspires for 100% satisfaction from his clients. I've been to several places in NYC - expensive and pretentious - but they pale in comparison to Warren's sweetness, but most importantly, SKILL! I came in here on a Tuesday afternoon and the owner (aka Biyoshi, though that's not his real name) was the only one there. He said that he was the only one around, and he could certainly cut my hair if I didn't mind him taking care of phone calls at the same time. I really didn't care whether he did that or not, so I signed up. I've been going to Fantastic Sam's and beauty schools for their budget cuts for the past 2 years. It has been hit-and-miss. Mostly miss. The last AWESOMESAUCE haircut I got was before those 2 years, at a place that charged $40 instead of $12 (Fantastic Sam's) or $6 (beauty schools). My visit to Biyoshi has been a lesson in "you get what you pay for" in terms of haircuts. Everyone has been complimenting me on my haircut, and telling me how cute it looks. Biyoshi did field a couple of phone calls while cutting my hair, and he seemed really familiar with the callers on the other end of the line. Not just pretending to be familiar, but asking specific questions about their dogs or kids. I'm definitely going back here for my next haircut, and am going to specifically request Biyoshi. I had requested lots of layers, and he told me that my thin/fine Asian hair would be better off with short layers. I secretly didn't believe him but decided to go with his advice, because he's the expert. And you know what? He is!! He was totally right, and my hair looks much better!! Biyoshi Hair Salon is a great place to get your hair cut or colored in the South Pasadena area with competitive prices. Their stylists have the high, ultra-chic quality of the salons on the Westside of LA, but are much more convenient to travel to if you're around the San Gabriel Valley / Pasadena / Alhambra / Downtown Los Angeles areas. And they have a very chill environment. My brother and I have been coming here for years and they always do an AWESOME job with our hair. We primarily work with Biyoshi, Rachel, and Steve and they give us great attention and also work with us when we feel like doing something more crazy or funky. They're punctual and have a great friendly atmosphere while you're there. And they treat their regular customers with a lot of care. I've even seen Biyoshi give touch-up trims for some ladies' bangs for free if they didn't need a full cut yet. They're main goal is to make you happy with your new look and have it last. And that's why I love coming here. I come here looking a bit rough and leave feeling much more invigorated with my hair back to where it should be. read more

I highly recommend this salon. Not only do you get a great haircut, the salon staff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I called on Tuesday morning and Steve helped squeeze me in on Wednesday -- the day before Thanksgiving. I was really surprised because they were so busy when I got there. I was scheduled with Biyoshi himself AKA Warren. Did I hit the haircut jackpot or what!!! I am lucky to have found my "hair angel!" Warren really listened to what I wanted and what I did not want, and warned me a few times before he started cutting the length. Then he worked his magic. He ended up cutting about 3-4 inches -- big change for me -- and I absolutely love it! I've gotten many "great hair" comments too. He knew exactly how to work with my straight-with-a-slight-wave, full-headed, Japanese hair. My long-layered hair now falls exactly where it should, bouncy, not flat -- don't even need hairspray people!!! Like I said, make an appointment today with Biyoshi. On Yelp, I noticed other staff that have gotten good reviews, so seems like you can't go wrong. The price for a women's haircut is $43 -- very reasonable for the quality and service you receive. I recently moved into this city and was in dire need of some TLC. I was referred over to this salon. I called in on a Friday evening for an emergency appointment over the weekend. Gentleman over the phone was great!!!! I wanted to impress my boyfriend for our date night, & I was immediately helped and booked with Dory for NEXT day. I asked her if I should go darker or add some highlights with my skin tone and face type she informed me highlights was the way to go. I'm soooo happy with my new hairdo. it's a little pricey (about $200) but I have elbow length hair. It was PERFECTION at its finest. Thanks Dory I will be back on a regular basis. Being that I still didn't have a regular hair stylist in my hometown of Alhambra (though I have one near where I go to school), I decided to give this place a try based on the good reviews on Yelp and the cost. A previous reviewer wrote that it was $36 for a student cut, but I think they've raised the price 'cause for a shampoo, cut, and blowdry it was $38 for me today. But still, not a bad price. I had Sharon, who chatted with me the entire time and really made me feel comfortable. All I needed was a trim, and she did a very good job. She took the time at the end, after blowdrying, to make sure my bangs were at the length I wanted, and changed it when I wanted them shorter. She also made sure to let me know that if I needed my bangs trimmed I could come back, free of charge. (Though I admit, I never go in salons for bang trims 'cause I get impatient and I end up doing it myself... probably not always good.) All the people working there were very friendly, and there was water, lemonade, ice tea available to hydrate us on this very hot summer day. I think I may have found a regular hairstylist in Alhambra! read more

I am originally from Pasadena, but now I live in NYC, so when I was home for a quick visit I decided it was time to find a more cost-effective solution to my mop of hair. The stylist I had gone to while living in Pasadena usually charged around $60, and since I am a starving student I can't really afford that! I came to my good friend Yelp and asked him where the best deal for the best quality would be, and BOY did you come through Yelp! My hairdresser was Dori, she gave me a fabulous wash, cut, and style, and I even called her just now to thank her for what a great cut she gave me! I've had it for a few days, and even letting it dry naturally, it looks incredible. I also just took a redeye flight back to New York, and after sleeping on the plane I still looked like a million bucks! I had to call and thank her, and even though I don't really take the time to review things on Yelp, this place is definitely worth it! it was only $38 including tax :) read more

Wow! It was my first time at a new salon, and that could make anyone nervous. Dori made me instantly comfortable. It's a small salon, and wasn't too busy on a Wednesday afternoon. Everyone in the salon was friendly and welcoming. Dori asked how I wanted my hair, she further clarified where I'd like my layers to start and how I like to wear it. She did a great job! She was quick, but careful, which is perfect for me because I don't like sitting in a chair for hours. This is the first time I've been genuinely happy with a haircut on a first visit. I continue to go to Biyoshi. The service is always casual/exceptional. Forget the chains. If you want to spend time going thru haircut books to find what's right for you, it's no problem. The only haircuts that I've had that were more enjoyable were when I was married. I've never pinched anyone here, but that's the main difference. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I read the reviews and decided to give this place a try, and I was very pleased with the results. My haircut is exactly how I wanted it. I had been avoiding getting a haircut, I want my hair to grow out. It seems every where else I went, I kept leaving the salon with a helmet head cut- too poofey. I called at 10am and got an appointment for 12:30pm on a Saturday. The stylist "Rachel" was waiting for me when I walked in the door, so there was no wait. Wow. I am such a fan. Mr. Biyoshi gave my 4 year old the most stylish and beautiful haircut ever and he didn't try to charge us an arm and a leg for it (ahem *cough*Ecco Salon*cough*). We used to take her to salons that cater to kids but honestly, they do mediocre jobs at best (maybe because they don't think kids need nice haircuts?) but cmon, I have to look at my kid and live with my kid and put up with her 24/7- so it helps that she looks adorable so I don't feel like strangling myself sometimes. Plus she can sit still on her own without race car chairs and movies on - so she's fine here. Initially she wanted to shave her head to be like her daddy but she ended up with the cutest lob instead. Call me nuts, but I drive to Biyoshi's for haircuts from Palos Verdes, which is no small feat driving the 110 north... But I know that I will consistantly get a great cut. I've tried places all over the south bay but end up going back to Biyoshi for him to fix it.... They're always accomadating and just mellow. No problems ever!
