My mom loves their burgers, white cheddar mashed potatoes, and pizookies so I sometimes end up here. I know this isn't a vegan restaurant, but I always review from a vegan point of view. That being said, the vegan options here are slim. The only things you don't need to heavily modify are the chips and guacamole, some of the veggie sides, and the pasta with marinara sauce on the kids' menu. If you're ok with shared fryers, their fries are technically vegan too. Since they don't have a pasta option on the regular menu that doesn't include meat and cheese, I usually order a create-your-own pasta off the kids' menu and choose a side of steamed broccoli. I like their marinara sauce and the portion is just right, so I'm fine with it. I also really love their strawberry lemonade. It would be great if they had at least one dedicated vegan dish on the adult menu, but I don't expect a chain restaurant to go out of their way to accommodate vegans. read more

Clearly the pizookie deal is a hit amongst the South Bay Area because it's always absolutely packed at 10pm. Be prepared for a bit of a wait. They were extremely understaffed on a Tuesday night, and the poor waiters were running around and scrambling. The ambiance is casual and lively. The pizookie is absolutely worth the wait: the ice cream is a great contrast to the warm cookie. It's a huge portion, so one pizookie is the perfect size for two people. I feel like the BJ's chain has just been going down hill. Or are there just better restaurants and food scenes now in the Bay? Came her three times. Once for bar food and drinks in the open seating area, totally fine as we came in super low maintenance. 2nd time for sit down, which we got a burger with onion rings and pizza. Pizza was great - greasy and delicious as it should be. The burger, however, was very dry. Patty was pretty much overcooked and our onion rings were over fried with the taste of old oil. Service was slow too on a non-busy evening. Third time was today for lunch. We put ourselves on the online waiting list, but it looked slow so we just said table for 5. We waited about ten minutes for the hostess to tell us we can do the open seating area. We didn't want that so we said we were on the waiting list. She then asked again why we didn't want the open seating area, and then we finally got our table. We didn't want the high chairs and wanted dedicated service. I got the fish and chips, again the fish was over fried and the color was dark. It had leftover oil taste. The wings were good tho and the Brussels sprouts. It wasn't busy on a Sunday lunch day and our server was no where to be found when we needed things. We were pretty low maintenance but for my water refill & extra small plates for our pizookies the service was too slow. We ended up just eating cause the ice cream was melting. Chairs also had water stains and didn't look nice, table felt stick, & the restrooms weren't kept up on. BJ's is a decent place to grab food with a bunch of friends, but it has mediocre food and service. My friends and I come here occasionally to celebrate birthdays as they have a lot of room. We made our reservations online and had no hassle with it. Parking can get very full at peak hours, but they also have valet parking. The interior has a dim sports bar vibe, and there were a couple of TVs playing sport games. I usually get the weekend prime rib special, which is a salad/soup, two sides, prime rib and a pizzokie. It is honestly a lot of food for a fair price. Unfortunately, the food always takes a while to arrive, as service is slow. The waiters also don't come by very often, which makes it hard to get water refills or utensils. The prime rib itself is okay at best. It is definitely not bad by any means but it's also doesn't have that "wow" factor. The asparagus and grilled veggies appetizers weren't that bad, but I felt like the grilled cauliflower was undercooked. I recommend getting the pastas instead. One time I got the Chicken Alfredo, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. One of the trademarks of BJs is their "pizzokie", which is a giant cookie with ice cream on top. It is honestly quite good, as the cookies are baked perfectly and they give a lot of ice cream. It is a heavy dessert though, and I recommend having two people to finish it. Overall, BJs is an allright place if you want to get dinner with a bunch of friends without the hassle of waiting or lack of space. ** PIZOOKIE TUESDAY REVIEW ** Pizookies are $5 on tuesdays and that's a deal I can't miss out on! We went at ~7:30pm on a tuesday evening and the place was surprisingly pretty crowded. But I told the hostess that we were here for the pizookie deal and she told us that there was a "self seated" area at that time. I am assuming it might just be tuesdays since they know so many people come just for the deal. We sat ourselves down and ordered the following pizookies: cookies n cream, and chocolate chip. Unfortunately they were out of the dubai chocolate one (but maybe next time). I think our favorite of the two was the cookies n cream. That one is superior out of all of them in my opinion (just SUPER sweet). We had a slight mishap with the check. They accidentally charged us the regular price instead of the discounted deal price and it wasn't a big deal, but the staff who were handling it seemed a little disgruntled over it. It was to the point where I felt uncomfortable and would rather just leave it. But, eventually a manager came (without us asking for one) and helped us change the price to the correct one. Usually love going to BJ's but the service at my most recent visit to the Cupertino location wasn't great. We went on a Friday around 7pm and it was packed! The parking lot is small so we struggled to find a spot and luckily got one after some time. We had called ahead to put ourselves on the waitlist and we were seated immediately. But then, we waited 35 minutes just to get water and another 25 minutes to order our food! There was a whole lot of confusion because there were tables that were seated after us that were helped before us. About an hour later, we eventually ordered the Dubai Chocolate Pizookie and the $13 meal deal with a salad, deep dish pizza, and then the mini pizookie to go. The food came relatively quick afterwards. $13 meal deal is great value - I would definitely order this again. Salad was a nice starter and the pizza was tasty. I appreciated how we were able to get a side of ranch with the pizza. Can comfortably split this between two people. The Dubai Chocolate Pizookie was pretty good and I'm glad I got to try it but not sure if I would order again. I felt like there could have been more pistachio cream and kataifi. I prefer some of their other pizookies We ordered the mini Pizookie to go and it took another 40 minutes after we finished eating to receive this. Overall, the food was good, especially the $13 meal deal, and it was the redeeming part of an otherwise frustrating experience. The service was very disappointing - of the two hours we spent at BJ's, only about 20 minutes of that was for eating, and the rest of the time was idle waiting. The sweetest waitress ever. Secondly, the FOOD. In my honest opinion, the steak itself wasn't the best BUT José, who was in charge of the kitchen at the time, was extremely kind enough to work with how we wanted our steak cooked. I've been here decades, but it's getting downside. Every time we're here, there are always short of staff, never pay attention to the customers, food gets bad, and missing items... Today, when we visit here, server never showed up, he finally showed up after 15 minutes and collected the orders the other tables. We made a reservation for 10 people to watch the World Cup Final, but when we arrived, we were told there was no table available for us. Apparently, there had been an overlap with another reservation, yet nobody from the restaurant bothered to call or let us know in advance. This was incredibly disappointing, especially because our group had planned this for days, and some of our friends drove all the way from San Francisco to Cupertino just for this event. Instead of enjoying the match together, we were left scrambling to find another place at the last minute. Mistakes can happen, but failing to honor a reservation and not even notifying customers beforehand is unacceptable. We expected much better communication and customer service. Me and my friend went yesterday at around 10:00pm and our waiter was so rude. When he came over to our table we asked for a couple extra minutes to decide on what to order, and he didn't come back until 15 minutes later. We each ordered a pizookie and he said "it's just a cookie it shouldn't have been that hard to order" in a rude and not even a funny way. After we got the pizookies not even 5 minutes later he literally came back and was like "can you guys pay now". We asked for more time because we weren't even done with our food but he said "well you guys are my last table of the night so I can't leave because of you guys". Word for word. Mind you this was at 11pm and the restaurant didn't close until midnight. We were so astonished. Never have I ever ate at a restaurant with a waiter kicking me out because he wanted to clock out. We didn't appreciate the service at all so we ended up leaving and when we went to pay, he didn't even give us the receipt and to tip because he knew his service was beyond awful. I love trying local breweries and beers, so while I was visiting from out of town my coworkers suggested BJ's. I wish I would have checked the reviews before coming out because O O O F. These reviews are EARNED. We asked the hostess if we could sit at the bar, which they directed us to. We got confused about if the bar included the entire section (deemed "the cocktail area" by a waitress once we asked) or if it was just the barstool section, but either way apparently we sat in the wrong area. We sat in the "cocktail area" for 15 minutes without service before moving to the barstool area (fearing we had accidentally sat at a hightop table for dining service), but unfortunately moving to the bar only further infuriated the staff we so desperately wanted service from. Three hours we were there, and we had to fight tooth and nail for our two beverages. Every time we made eye contact with our bartender they would shove their chin in the air and do everything in their power to avoid further eye contact. And they acted in solidarity; we tried to talk to ANY bartender but were shunned like non-believers. Eventually we just left, which we should've done hours before we did. I have never experienced such a stiff attitude from an entire establishment. Being a tourist I tried to confirm we weren't doing anything deviant or stepping on toes, we just wanted to try the beers. I know it is frustrating when people don't listen to directions and sit where they aren't supposed to, but we went where we were directed. The two drinks that I had (cider and blonde ale) were fine, but the service was by far the most sour I have ever had. I know how medium prime rib look like, it also show a picture in the menu. But this medium prime rib from BJ does not look ordinarily prime rib, and it definitely not medium that I wanted. It came out look like a well done grill steak. I told my server, Vanessa, she was very very nice offered me another prime rib. It came out the same. So she offer me a ribeye instead but it still came out well done. I was very disappointed so did she. She wanted to offer me another again but I said forget it. I was afraid the cook might get angry and fix me something special. I understand that a prime rib is a big piece of beef roasted with different degree of cook level. But Vanessa explained to me that BJ cut a piece of rare meat and reheat or grill it to the cook level customer wants. So it came out nowhere look like a prime rib. This is a nicer location and overall staff was pretty quick, but our waiter did disappear for awhile and vanished into thin air when we needed some things. Still, the food made up for it. I went to the Cupertino location around 1:30 PM on a Sunday specifically for the Prime Rib dinner. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and I was seated immediately in the main aisle. Unfortunately, the efficiency ended there. I sat for 15 minutes without anyone coming to take my order or even bring a glass of water; I eventually had to flag someone down just to get a server assigned. While the kitchen speed was good--my soup and steak arrived quickly--the service failures continued. I asked for condiments, but it took another 15 minutes for them to arrive, by which point my steak was cold. The end of the meal was just as frustrating. I asked for the check and my dessert to-go (which is included in the meal). The bill arrived, charging me extra for the dessert. After waiting another 10 minutes to flag down the server again, they apologized and corrected the printed receipt. However, when I tried to pay, the QR scan code still showed the wrong amount. It took yet another round of trying to get the server's attention just to pay my bill. All the food was decent, tasted fresh and pretty tasty but the service was severely lacking, especially for a non-busy Sunday afternoon. read more
