I came here with a friend recently and our server (I believe her name was Nicky, an older lady) was extremely rude and dismissive. When she asked if we were ready to order, my friend started ordering, and as soon as she finished, the server just walked away without taking my order. She came back a moment later and said, "she said that was all she wanted," referring to my friend -- no apology or explanation. When I finally got to order, she brought my drink and walked off without saying anything. My friend ordered the buffalo wings, but they tasted like they had honey on them instead not what she ordered. The server only checked on us once the entire time. We also asked for boxes and waited over 20 minutes, even though it wasn't busy. We ended up asking the host for them instead. To make things worse, we overheard her complaining about another table not leaving a tip. I usually enjoy BJ's, but this visit was really disappointing. The service felt careless and unprofessional, which made the experience uncomfortable. Hopefully management looks into this and improves the service. read more

Our family loves BJ's in Downey. We usually have diner at least once at month, we never have to wait more that 15 minutes if that, the staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is excellent and the service is great , Don't want to cook? You can't go wrong with their $13 pizookie meals deal! ( A meal and dessert ) you can't beat the price. Not the best night at BJs. While we were seated in a timely manner (just ahead of the dinner rush), it wasn't great. The servers did the best they could, but they had so many tables, adequate service was at a minimum. We had to flag them down for tableware, straws, refills on water and drinks. I had something in my ice that looked like a seed or paper and needed it to be replaced. That took awhile. When my food finally arrived, my chicken (and my sons) was overcooked and mine was burnt and dry. Mine clearly tasted burnt, and I sent it back, which caused misalignment with dessert being brought out at the same time. They staggered it, which disrupted our meal experience. If attention to our overall experience had been considered, they could have made up for it by timing it right.The server tried to save face for the chef by saying that maybe it was the oil. I told him no, it tasted burnt and no self respecting chef would send out that plate like that. If the servers are in a rush, the cook is in rush (clearly!), the oil doesn't get replaced enough to avoid interfering with taste, then I see fault with management. Attention to detail is clearly needed. Adequate staffing is the management's responsibility. There were lots of staff, but all were practically running from table to table. Management do better! It's going to affect your bottom line. So disappointed this time. It was so bad that I don't believe the servers even noticed all the bad experiences we went through. Normally, the servers do something to try to make up for a misstep or error, but nothing extra, no profuse apology, nothing offered to be comped (not that I expected anything, but the offer would of been a nice gesture). It will be a long time before I consider going back. read more

Good place to stop by for Happy Hour. Good variety of seating available (at the bar to watch sports, tables for large groups, and booths for a bit more privacy. Came by on a Friday afternoon, and got pretty busy when we left around 6. It's located in the Stonewood shopping center, so plenty of mall parking. The food was OK. Ordered some boneless 'wings' and a tavern style pizza. It's actually very difficult to get this Chicago tavern style pizza in LA...BJ's advertises it, but it's not really the same. It looks more like a flat bread pizza, except that the crust tastes exactly like when you make a pizza at home and use a good flour tortilla as the crust. It's a good appetizer for sure, but not hefty enough as a main meal. The service was OK...took a bit to be seated and to get beverages from the bar, but our waitress was friendly enough (just not very efficient). Tried to order unusual beers, but they were out....so ended up going back to old faithful (Blue Moon)...went great with the pizza. read more

For the record, I love BJ's and especially the new pizookie meal deal that they're currently offering. Their burgers are some of my top favorite and the remodel looks really nice. I usually go alone and virtually never have to wait. I typically see the managers monitoring the business and engaged on the floor, which is great. Tonight I was served by Eddicka Norsworthy at table 820. My check number was 198. She greeted me pretty quickly and brought me the water I asked for immediately. Then took my order, to which I added a coffee. I popped on some Netflix at the table and she brought my coffee 7 minutes later. How did I know this? Because I happened to check the time-stamp on my show. I didn't mind because she mentioned she had to brew a new pot. Then at about 15 or so minutes later, the manager dropped off my food. I'm pretty low-maintenance so I don't need much. Once I was done, I was waiting to order the dessert. I waited and waited. At 38 minutes into my show, I still had not seen Eddicka since she dropped off my coffee. I overheard another server mention "I don't know where she is so I'm working her section right now." At 40 minutes, another table was frustrated because they wanted to pay out and leave. They had to get up and grab someone to help. At 42 minutes into my little show, she finally reappears to take my dessert order, looking shaken. That meant 35 minutes of no contact or check-in with my server. I'm not sure what happened, but that was single-handedly one of the worst experiences I've ever had here. It won't stop me from coming back, but I definitely do not want to be served by her again. read more
