Downey Pizza Co. is not your ordinary pizza joint, they have a great selection of speciality pizzas that are fun and taste great. For example, they have an original pastrami (my favorite!!), they also have a pizza that is topped with alfredo sauce, mushrooms, garlic, chicken, and even an al pastor pizza option. That one I've never tried before, but it sounds good/interesting. Their pizza dough is always spot on, thick crust, fresh topping. They have a big dinning area, sports bar vibe but parking is pretty tight. I've only dinned in once so I'm not sure how the service is here, I'll usually get delivery to avoid that hassle of going there or I'll pick up. I don't live close but it's worth the drive. With all the new pizza places opening in Downey, you'd think Downy Pizza Co. would try to stand out with service and quality, but they don't. Although it's been a staple in the community for some time and being back warm and cozy memories, they're really falling on their service these days. We ordered several large pizzas for an event, ordered days before, and paid in advance. This place gives good ol' family dinner hangout and i am here for it. We usually get an order of wings and mozzarella sticks. Its def a no frills place, but very consistent with their food and service. Sometimes service can be slow, but understandable expected when the place is crowded. Seen really good reviews about this place decided to come check them out the place itself. It's kinda dark and lonely. They need more signs or something more decorative to vibe it up as for the food. The artist choked dip was really good I gave it a 5 out of 5 it was really good nice and cheesy and the bread they serve you with it was really soft and warm the wings. They get a 3 out of 5 they were a little bit undercooked. They should've been a little bit more crispy and the sauce was actually pretty good. I wish they cooked it with the sauce instead of sprinkling on top as far the pizza they get a 4 out of 5 plenty of cheese the sauce was really good. Only thing I didn't like was the pizza dough. It was a little bit too much on the edge, but it was soft. Will I come back maybe if I'm in the area I live 30 minutes away so I don't see myself driving way out here just to eat the pizza. That's for the service. It was pretty good. They sat us down right away and sent someone to take care of this drink. However, I don't know if it was just my luck, but I ordered a blue moon on draft and it was flat they replaced it and that one was still flat so I switched up to a Corona and that was also flat. Came here because I was recommended this place for their pizza and calzones by Costco staff when they overheard me talking about whether to get the calzones or not at Costco. And I want to say that they have solid happy hours, but the bars get packed since there isn't any seats so its first come first served. We came for happy hour but ended up dining in regular section, their pizza is delicious and crust is really good. However the size amount to the price isn't quite a good ratio, but I guess if that is what it takes to get a good pizza, once in a while isn't too bad. Ironically did not try the calzone, so it will have to be a next time try. Speaking of which - we did get their draft beer and blended drinks, they were big and delicious! Would def come back again! Bad customer service from manager today, we found a hair in our food long hair my hair was up and I told the waitress as I was pulling off my food and giving it to her she called the manager and he claimed it wasn't anyone in there staff ... very strange, my husband and waitress seen it being pulled from the food, manager only said sorry and nothing he can do about it , so I told the restaurant guest be careful as I left, I was walking to my car and the same manager comes out and starts harassing me and calling me names as my husband was still in the restaurant restroom I felt very scared he claimed he was going to call the police which in fact I should have ! We got the downey special and the original pastrami pizza. What I loved about the downey special were the mushrooms and the bell peppers. If you like the King Arthur pizza from round table pizza, then you'll love this flavor even more . The melty cheese and the savory, semi-soft pepperoni, with the delicious toppings make for the perfect pizza, great for all. The pastrami original pizza was the one I was most excited about because they only make this type of pizza here. It was a nice mixture of crispy pastrami, crunchy, refreshing pickles, and mustard. Even if you don't like mustard, I swear you will like this pizza. It is that good. The staff were nice and were not rude at all. Our pizza came out within 10 minutes and was hot and fresh. Came here for the first time on Saturday night for dinner. Parking area was tight and small, but there were enough spaces for about 20 cars. We found parking right after the main parking area. We were greeted right away and asked if we wanted booth or table. We opted for table since booths were not available and people were waiting for it. There were about 7 or 8 groups already dining and more coming in after us. We were seated and got our drink orders taken. They gave us a few minutes to look through the menu. Once our drinks came, we were ready to order. We got a large pepperoni pizza for the table. My husband got an Italian calzone and I ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Since everything is made to order and fresh, we waited a bit, not too long though. My fettuccine came out first and then 5 minutes later our pizza and last was my husband's calzone. Everything was hot and delicious. As we ate, more groups came and filled the restaurant. There were a lot of pick up orders also. We enjoy the pizza here but it might be our last time there. We did a preorder for Saturday and I was very disappointed. I made a pick up order for 12:45. I had my boy friend run in well I stood in the car with my 8 month old baby. He was told the pizza would be ready in about 7 mins but it was 20 mins later we actually left. A bit puzzled on the negative comments on the service staff at DPC or that the only pizza worth tasting here is the pastrami pizza. I've been here multiple times over the past decade and have not had a single problem with the servers. They may be casual and chatty in their style but never rude or "brush off". In terms of what type of pizza to order here, I would agree that the pastrami is an attractive choice but the other pizzas are also first class in taste and consistency of the dough. I had the mini specialty pastrami pizza! The pastrami was tender. All the ingredients were fresh. I had the pan crust (My preferred crust). However, they have a thin crust if you prefer.
