My daughter has been to other BJ's in the past, out of state, and loved it... so she wanted to celebrate her graduation at this one. We didn't think much of it and drove 30 minutes to get here. Within 20 minutes, I was already regretting coming here. You don't put parties over 6 in the hands of a server that isn't up for it. I want to blame the lazy staff, but ultimately, this place needs a manager that can run a staff. Whoever is running this place now needs to be canned. We were in the mood to celebrate, and the fact that there was no one in our section all night to check drinks means this restaurant lost A LOT of money on alcohol sales. The server lost that money and more in her tips. We sat there for about 15 to 20 minutes before anyone even approached our table. When she finally got there, she took our drink order, then disappeared for a pretty long time, and came back with half our drinks. Apparently pouring beer takes a specialist at the bar, and the beer flights wouldn't be ready for about an hour after we sat down. If you ask for water and get it, drink it slow! Getting it refilled takes an act of God... even when you ask! I grew up in the restaurant business, so I understand if you get a busy section and get slammed. However, I looked around all night and our server was nowhere to be found... never on the floor. Didn't see her at other tables until later. Was she in the back scrolling Instagram? I've seen people fired for a lot less than what went on in this place. After ordering, it took a long while to get our food (and beers). When we did, my filet was warm, at best. The other party's food was cold. It was obvious it died in the window. Once again, waitress was nowhere to be found to check on us. Normally, when a plate comes with fries, you ask if the person wants ketchup or even, let's see... just bring it? We had to try and find our waitress just to ask for some! Sure glad my wife asked for silverware ahead of time, as it didn't look like we would have had even that! I think, during this time, the manager (maybe?) stopped by our table. She walked up the aisle, asked my young daughter how everything was, and turned and walked away before she could even say anything! Didn't stop and ask me as I would be paying for a rather large bill. After we finished our dinner... we sat there... and sat there. She finally showed up and took our desert orders. Our dirty dinner plates still sat on the table! And sat there! Right before our desert arrived is when my daughter's grandmother got up and started clearing the dirty plates to move them to another table!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS??? I saw bussers in the place. Where were they??? In an empty room stacking chairs on tables. Right after grandma cleared the table, she brought desert out. Was she planning on stacking them on our old dinner plates? I'm reviewing a few highlights of this experience, as I don't feel I need to write a novel about our experience. I'm sure you get the idea. I normally over tip servers for decent service. I grew up in the business. I get how it works. This would be a rare occasion that I tipped under 18%. I honestly feel like I shouldn't have tipped anything AT ALL for someone I never saw working... but I couldn't bring myself to do it. TO THE MANAGER: Do your job or get out. Stop collecting a paycheck for doing nothing. Get off your ass and train your staff. Stay on top of them, or get someone in there who can. ANYONE can pick up a plate or glass and keep their section clean. Hell, Grandma demonstrated that! The whole section had dirty, empty tables piled with plates and glasses while the bussers were in another,empty, room stacking chairs on tables. Learn priorities, would you please? Why is your waitstaff not on the floor, or turning their backs to their section when they are? I get it... it's not exactly upscale dining... but I've seen better service at Denny's. I thought BJ's was supposed to be a step up. I was hoping for a somewhat nice evening for my daughter to celebrate her hard work and success. Thank you to our waitress (name removed), and BJ's staff for making this a stressful evening that still makes me angry. We did not have a good experience tonight. We stop here a lot driving from LA to our house in Santa Cruz. We usually have a great experience. Tonight nothing went right. Our drinks were ordered late from trying to get the bartender attention. We ordered our food. My husband's food came right away. My food took forever. So we ate separately. Also my second side dish came at the very end of my meal. I no longer wanted it. So disappointed. I doubt we will come again. read more

I really enjoy the entire staff at Bjs, everyone is always so welcoming and friendly except this one older lady, Katrina. She had an overall very passive aggressive attitude about her that I did not find enjoyable. Almost snarky like. I will definitely request another server in the future. Hadn't been here for quite awhile but gave it another try because it was my friend's choice. Pros: Staff was friendly and reasonably responsive. There are lots of choices on the menu. Our orders were served exactly as ordered. My friend seemed to enjoy her meal. Cons: My lunch (chicken & bacon piadini I think it was called) was very very salty. i love this place when it comes to deserts. They have a special on Tuesdays that u can get a pizookie for $3. Its a warm cookie topped with icecream for only 3!! Me and my boyfriend always would go once a month and get a pizzokie to share. The service is amazing. The waiters are very attentive and caters to their customers. I loved the beef sliders with a side of fries. The dish comes with four sliders with lettuce and pickles on the side. The patty was well done and the buns were toasted. It was a bit too greasy for me but very good overall. As for the Cookies n Cream or Oreo Pizookie, it was perfect. The warm cookie complimented the ice cream on top and I loved the Oreo whip cream on the top. When everything came out The food was cold . Waiters just huddle in a corner not attending to their customers. When explaining our issue to the manager. The food is basic bar food but with an upscale higher end feel. They have a variety of beers and a full bar. Good size TV that are plastered around the walls so that you can watch football, baseball or whatever sport is being shown at the time. I had the holiday special where I would chose two entrees and two sides. I had the top sirloin and scampi. The sirloin was medium it was delicious didn't need any sauce and it was definitely not dry. The Parmesan crusted scampi it complimented my white cheddar mashed potatoes. The seasoned veggies were a bit on the hard side. For dessert we had 2 orders of the mini trio pazooki! My favorite flavor were the sea salt caramel and peanut butter. Some were a bit too doughy and not crisp at all around the edges.. But others were baked to perfection.. The white chocolate macadamia was a bit too sweet for me. Service was alright. I guess she was overwhelmed with MNF and visitors coming from out of town since it is thanksgiving week.. This location is a joke and so was the girl at the front welcoming desk, that was not welcoming. We needed a table for 6 people and a high chair today. She walked us over to a small booth that comfortably based on the size of table would fit 3 people. We asked for a larger table and she got really snooty and said they are short staffed and thats all she had available ( being short staffed unfortunately is not my problem ). And mind you it was very quite and only about 20% capacity at that time. After literally going back and forth she finally takes us to a table that fit all of us comfortably. We said thank you for the move and she looks at me and doesn't say a word other than rolls her eyes. I would have went somewhere else but this was where my niece wanted to eat as to it was her 16th birthday. SERVICE was horrible and they were out of almost every beer on the menu and limited on food. July 19th we had the worst meal ever from BJ's in Salinas. We have been going there for years and this will be the last time we ever order take out. Our portions were so small. I ordered the pork chops and the side of mash potatoes was about 3 bites worth. The pork chop even was smaller than before. They gave me a large portion of green beans. My son ordered the salmon with couscous. The portion of couscous was also 3 bites worth. He is 15 and the meal didn't even come close to filling him up. He made a sandwich afterwards because he was still hungry. I called and spoke with the manager. He stated that they are measuring exactly 1/4 cup for sides and that has always been their policy. I explained that the side portions have always been bigger than that and he stated they were more generous back then. I understand with Covid-19 everything has changed. I explained to the manager I was not upset with him but the meal we ordered was not worth $78.00. I If BJ's is going to have smaller portions, then they should lower their prices. We have been going to BJ's since they opened. Sometimes we have a problem and being to their attention they solve it. Tonight we had an awesome server named Isaiah. We agree he is the most attentive, polite server we have ever had there. He regularly checked in on us and seemed to really care about our dining experience. Even noticed a problem on our bill and fixed it before it got to us. I hope next time you go, you get Isaiah 8-9-20 COVID quarantine delivery - So we got delivery from BJ's. 3 prime rib dinners. There was several missing items to each order - 1) no au jus or horseradish nor sweet potato fries. 2) no au jus or horseradish nor butter or sour cream for potato 3) no au jus or horseradish nor butter, chives or sour cream for loaded baked. Thing is we paid extra for these on our order. The driver dropped off near the ants on our porch and by the time we got to the door he was leaving so couldn't check order. Other disappointing thing is that all the containers have labels printed out which state the items that never got packed. They would not come back out, we could go pick up, or they gave a small gift card. Thing is all of our sides and main protein were affected which is a real bummer.
