I was super excited for BKD Bagels. As someone who was raised in Jersey I have been really look forward to some high quality bagels! So ... I decided I'm going to go right at opening to get some warm fresh bagels for the family! I got there a bit early and waited in line thinking this is a great sign! A decent number of people waiting must meet these are good! Upon opening of the store the line wasn't too bad and the storefront is nice & clean however..,. The negatives: 1) Can't get a dozen bagels... what bagel place doesnt' like you get a dozen bagels? 2) The bagels were cold... maybe this is just a bad expectation in this area but growing up bagels were always warm and fresh... nothing is better than that. 3) The bagels themselves weren't proofed properly. They had a poor texture and weren't set up correctly. The store itself is too small for proper bagel machinery so maybe the bagels are made offsite somewhere else? Maybe the bagels are made in small batches? Regardless the consistency and texture was not good. 4) The bagels were really expensive for what they are. Suggestions: Check out the bagel place in ashurn... the bagels are more consistent (but also not warm...)... honestly even the wegmans bagels are better... super super disappointed :( read more

Pros: the toppings on the bagel itself are plentiful. Bagel was decent. Cons: extremely expensive. Bagel with one egg, one slice of cheese and 2 slices of bacon was $8!!!! Never eaten such an expensive bagel in my life. The bagel itself had a unique flavor, but the texture was off. Inside of the bread was very similar to a loaf of homemade sandwich bread, very soft and light. Pork roll was vile, not sure it was cooked at all. Technically you can eat pork roll right it off the package, but a slice of pork roll is fried until the edged are crisp and start to curl. Small cans of Illy coffee were $4 each, you could get a handmade coffee drink fresh for that price elsewhere. I would be back if the prices were more affordable but it's not worth it as it stands. read more

We went inside and picked up two of their cream cheeses and stood in what appeared to be a line. There was no communication happening from the people behind the counter. My husband stepped over to the side and asked a girl behind the counter if we were in the right line since we were not being addressed, she said 'Yes' and called over to the other counter that we were waiting. At the this time a guy carrying his coffee from upstairs with shoulder length hair strolls in front of us. We move in front of him because it is clear we were there but no, as is the millennial way he was utterly offended and felt he had been standing there the whole time. The girl who we had been speaking to just shrugged her shoulders. It is important note at 9am they were out of half their bagel selection. We said screw this- bagels out of stock, staff that didn't seem to know what they were doing or how to handle customer control, and clientele we would not want to even be around. As we were walking out a woman standing there almost as if a plant goes 'aren't the bagels great!?' We responded that we wouldn't know as they were out of stock of half of them. She then goes 'Well, don't go to Benders because that's at least a 30 minute wait.' We found that to be an odd statement to make since we didn't even bring them up. Gave this place a try after a few months of tough reviews prior to mine. I agree with a lot of the statements of the size of the bagels ranging on the smaller size. I also agree the bagels are a little tougher than others I've had in the past. I ordered the plain bagel with vegetable cream cheese and a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. The vegetable cream cheese was absolutely amazing. Fresh peppers, carrots, and celery were diced into plain cream cheese. The bacon egg and cheese had a fresh egg, minimal bacon, and enough cheese. The everything bagel itself was well seasoned and overall tasted fine. The inside was on the colder side and the decor was updated with a modern touch. Outdoor seating is perfectly in the sun. I am posting this review here regarding their service not the food. The bagels are really good. The reason I'm posting it here is in the hope that someone at BKD sees it, since they don't have a working phone and the message I sent them on Facebook was unable to be sent. Here is what I tried to send on messenger: We tried to call but your phone is not in service. I know you're busy on Mother's Day - but my husband is on his way back to the Leesburg store, which is a 30 minute round trip from our home. He ordered 2 of the bagel and lox sandwiches, plus a half dozen bagels. Cost with tip was about $37. We were not at all pleased to open the sandwich containers to find sliced bagels with absolutely NOTHING on them. Totally plain. How does that happen? It's just two sandwiches! This is SO maddening. He is on his way back to get the right ones. We are regulars here, but man, this really was not a good start to Mother's Day. Update: they were apologetic and made the sandwiches correctly. Nothing offered for our inconvenience (not saying that we were looking for something, just noting that many places would have done so.) The staff was friendly, the inside is super cute, and there were lots of great bagel sandwiches on the menu as well as the ability to customize your own. Went back a few times since my first visit and this place is very good. Bagels are delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. I love the building too. My only negative is it seems nearly impossible to get a bagel correct when I order something other than one of their menu sandwiches. For example; sometimes I like to have butter and cream cheese on a toasted bagel. I've requested this before and you'd think I ordered a very complex item. Just slice it, toast it, butter on top/or bottom and cream cheese on the other half, Smash them together and cut it in half. Voila! I also didn't realize that everything is a la carte so no more butter and cream cheese. $2 bagel, $2 butter (everywhere else you go that's included), $2 cream cheese = $6+ tax bagel. Even $4 is a bit ridiculous. Wrap it in parchment, and a small sandwich bag, instead of a plastic to go container and a huge Bkd bag to cut down on those costs and reduce the price of the food. read more

Review on food only. Light airy "bagel"...taste and feel more like mix between different types of bread that are decent, but definitely not dense or chewy enough for it to be called a bagel. However you categorize this thing, it's definitely not bad. But you are not going to get a satisfying bagel bite (like New York bagel). read more

Went back today for a second time before leaving town. Ordered online for convenience. Bagels were extremely good. We got the salmon bagel sandwich. Very fresh and full of flavor. Way more poppy seeds than onion, garlic, and salt but still quite good. The shape was more normal this time but still a small bagel - the frozen Lenders size - but very good. Living in Leesburg we saw that this place has been slated to open for a while and decided to try it out today. Having eaten at many delicious bagel places locally and other places we've lived - this was mediocre at best. Experience: We had called in the morning to order for pickup but was told they don't do orders ahead over the phone. They seriously need to implement some kind of system that allows people to order and pay ahead. I had to drive to go order in person and the line was practically to the entrance. I waited about 10 minutes in line, ordered, and then waited about another 10 or so minutes to pick up my order from the counter. Staff was pleasant. Wasn't impressed with the wait times though for 2 bagels. The bagels were packaged in 2 separate plastic clamshell containers. Extremely wasteful if you ask me. Pretty much any other bagel place would wrap them in a paper material. Bagels: mediocre. We had blueberry bagels with egg, cheese, and avocado. Total for the bagel sandwiches was just north of $16, which to me is on the pricier side. The bagels were quite smaller than I expected, much smaller than any kind of bagel you'd find in a grocery store. And get ready for a jaw workout - these bagels were hard and tough, think baked sourdough crust and a thick interior. Personal preference is a lighter, softer bagel. Still feel a bit hungry after finishing the sandwich. Overall: maybe try it once for yourself to see how you like it, but I honestly would hesitate to come back. read more

Today, because we had dogs with us, we sat on the patio and ordered online. We never got a text about our order being ready so we went inside to check. They said their internet was down and they hadn't received our order, yet the girl next to us ordered online around the same time and got her order with no issues. They didn't let anyone waiting know. Rather than fulfilling the order from the confirmation email, we were told we'd have to cancel from whatever service we used (um, your website?) and reorder inside. My wife and I absolutely love the quality of BKD's food - it has been our go-to breakfast and lunch spot in downtown Leesburg since they opened. Unfortunately, we have recently seen a serious deterioration in BKD's attention to detail and have been disappointed with the response of staff to their own oversights. For context, the majority of our orders are non- or lightly-customized mobile orders for pick-up. We visited BKD several weeks ago and ordered two of their special "Bay Bae" sandwich (crabcake + fixin's on an old bay bagel). Both came without a crab cake on them which, thankfully, we caught before we left the restaurant. The staff fixed our order, and it was wonderful. These things happen, and we assumed it was an isolated oversight. Fast-forward to earlier today, we placed a mobile order for a "Slim Shady" (+avocado mash) and two "Hot 'n' Bothered" sandwiches. I received the notification my order was ready for pick-up while on my way to the restaurant, but when I arrived it was nowhere to be found on the pick-up counter. I told the staff my name, and was told "the Uber driver that was just here must have picked up the wrong order." Again, these things happen, although BKD might consider not having their pick-up orders sitting openly on the counter without any verification process in place to avoid unintentional (or intentional) theft. To compound matters, the staff member told me that their last two french toast bagels had been used in my actual order which had been mistakenly taken, so they were now out. This was frustrating given that the special french toast bagel was the entire reason we had placed our order in the first place today. The staff member offered no recourse or response other than "I'm sorry", so I asked her to please have the kitchen remake the sandwiches on jalapeno cheddar bagels. After waiting 15 minutes for my order to be remade, it was done. I checked the order before leaving the restaurant only to see the two "Hot 'n' Bothered" sandwiches had been remade on plain bagels, not jalapeno cheddar. There was also no avocado mash on my wife's "Slim Shady" sandwich, despite it costing extra and being clearly listed on the order receipt. At this point what I'd expected to be a quick run-of-the-mill order pick-up had become a lengthy and frustrating experience, and I did not have time to wait for BKD to re-re-make my order again, so I had to leave. I have worked in and around the restaurant industry most of my adult life and am well aware of the types of awful people that come in looking to create issues for a free meal. BKD is a wonderful local business, and I can appreciate that every check truly does matter to their livelihood. That being said, I left BKD today feeling like the staff did not care at all that they had given away my order and then failed to re-make it correctly (even ignoring the issue of running out of french toast bagels). From a small business like this that thrives on local repeat customers, I would have expected SOME sort of offer of recompense - maybe offering to comp the two sandwiches they could not remake or offering two jalapeno cheddar bagels so I could remake them myself at home. Instead, all I got was an "I'm sorry" and a lot of blank stares. My expectations for BKD are admittedly high, because their food is wonderful and we've had many more great experiences there than bad ones. However, our recent visits have left a sour taste in my mouth that I truly believe the business could have handled much better. read more

They have the best bagels in the entire area in my opinion. They need to be toasted though. The cream cheese spreads are well put together with lots of fresh ingredients. I think it is funny that the lox bagel sandwich is $12 but it is $12.50 for extra lox. Get there early before they run out. read more

We like to consider ourselves well versed in the realm of foodies and one thing my husband and I noticed in our area was that we had a need for a legitimate bagel shop in the Loudoun County/Leesburg area for quite some time now. The team at BKD has not only delivered a delicious bagel but also a true experience, embracing the beautiful Leesburg location, fully equipped with a gorgeous champagne bar and exquisite seating and wallpaper charm. Let's talk about the bagel- I have tasted my fair share of bagels and have to say this is by far my favorite. While this not intended to be a traditional NY style, I am beyond grateful that the team at BKD created their own LoCo style. They have created their own version: it's plump, it's dense, and it sings to my senses. The cream cheese is out of this world. I personally have always hated veggie cream cheese but after slapping some onto a rye dill bagel, I'm a believer. Throw some Turkey and cheese on a everything bagel; heaven! The jalapeño cheddar is money in the bank with just the plain cream cheese if you are ready to dive in. And let's not forget the little ones. The kiddos love those sprinkle donut balls. So much so, there are never any left for me to try so I'll take their actions to believe, those are a crowd pleaser. All this to say, check out BKD. Went today for first time. Been wanting to try for weeks. Got there around 7:43am. First in line, but by 8am there was a line of 9-10 people behind me. Overall, bagel flavor was pretty good. Reason for 3 stars is that the bottoms are all hard/crispy (had to cut them off), some had parchment paper on them, and they were a bit more bready than chewy. Also, a bit expensive. Would like to see a bulk deal (e.g. half dozen or dozen) rather than individual to help with cost. Operations we're okay. Still "soft opening" (it's been weeks?), but seemed to be okay. A TON of people working there, so I'm hopeful they'll get things down soon. For pure bagel flavor, would recommend people check out Bender's Bagel. We think it was slightly better, but will leave that to others to determine. read more
