Loved the chicken fried steak with red smashed potatoes and mixed steamed veggies. The side salad was a meal by itself with in house made dressing and fresh corn muffins, oh my! Service on Father's Day was very poor. One waitress complained they were short staffed. Three parties arrived about the same time and one waitress yelled over be right with you as she wrapped silverware and continued to wrap silverware for a few minutes while guests stood there waiting. Ordered food to go. Two guys in kitchen were on the ball and got orders out quickly. Saw food sitting on pass through for several minutes then waitress left food sitting on counter before she was organized enough to deliver it. Our take out order was wrong. I just had breakfast there. My server was Donna and she was perfect. This is a relatively new restaurant it used to be the iron skillet. What a wonderful experience. Be careful with the biscuit. It basically is a small loaf of bread! The atmosphere is wonderful the food portions are massive and it reminds me of some of the diners and breakfast establishments in California. What a great menu they have. Husband and I just got back from this "diner" and we VERY impressed. Sam our server, was so helpful and pleasant during our entire time there. I had the eggs benedict with hash browns and fruit. Husband had eggs sausage link etc. Hubby wanted his eggs "basted" and the server Sam, had never heard of that before so he just ordered them over medium. Well guess what ! Lol!.., Sam came back after talking to the cook/chef and he knew what basted eggs were and he'll baste our eggs. Talking about us being picky..,I'm a bit embarrassed but it worked out. Our food was delicious and humongous portions. Their menu has something for everyone and be prepared to be baffled as to what to order because everything sounds good (breakfast, lunch and dinner). We want to return but there are so many places to eat here In Beaumont.., we'll see. We are staying in a RV park where we are stranded because of a bolt going thru our tire. It's a perfect place to stop by on a road trip. I wouldn't expect too much from the Black Bear Diner. I mean, it's a truck stop, but I would expect a little more; almost none of the tables were completely clean when I went in (it was 3:37 when I got there). The food is as expected for a truck stop, obviously frozen with a hint of tears. They do have a fun mascot that goes around greeting the customers. Oh, I almost forgot! They have an unreasonably priced gift shop too! I didn't think too much of it at first. It's a pretty big area of the store, though. The Black Bear Diner located inside of the Petro truck plaza 5425 Walden Rd Beaumont Texas was a pleasant surprise ! After hours and hours traveling in the big rig and stopping at endless truck stops for fuel and a quick meal we didn't expect to find such a wonderful diner that served "real" homemade from scratch cat head biscuits and the best fried chicken and brisket I have had in a long time. Service was friendly and gracious. On Friday night I recommend to come early ( there were several locals and families and it was very busy) we were seated promptly without much wait arriving before the dinner crowd. Food arrived hot in a timely manner. Started off with ice tea ( fresh brewed!) order of delicious onion rings ... then fried chicken and sides and brisket and sides were prepared on point and the Portions were HUGE! I only regret I didn't leave room for their homemade pie!! I recommend to all the hungry folks longing for some good home cooked food while traveling! read more

My husband told me about this place that people were raving about at work, and we decided to give it a go. Let me tell you, do not let the gas station next to it trick you! It is extremely clean and the servers are by far the nicest people you will ever meet! They are amazing! The food was amazing! I got the ScramBowl and I loved it! We had ordered biscuits and gravy and also tasty! My husband got the burrito with chorizo inside and he said It was very tasted as well! The orange juice is freshly squeezed ! Finally tried Black Bear Diner. Decided to do breakfast since I'm vegetarian and places always have more vegetarian options for breakfast. Anyways my partner and I were quickly seated by a very friendly hostess Scott. The restaurant was busy but not crowded. The menus are so cute they look like newspapers. They have a variety of breakfast options and the portions sizes range from supersized to baby bear portions. Our waitress Savanna was super attentive and friendly. It took us several minutes to decide what we wanted and she allowed us time to think without rushing us. We ordered and our food came out about 10minutes later hot and fresh. Huge huge portions. See the attached pictures. I had a scramble with was really good needed more salt and pepper but nothing I couldn't handle. I had the country potatoes a little overcooked for me but still flavorful. My partner had the grizz which was enough food for two people to share. He said he loved the pork sausage more then the bacon it was over cooked for his taste but the sourdough bread he said was best toast ever. I would say that I heard the biscuits was to die for mine was too hard for me. Overall excellent breakfast choice. I did look at the lunch and dinner options and see that they do offer vegetarian options so we will be back again. read more

Don't pass this place up on your way to Cracker Barrel, their service and food are hands down better than CB. You get so much food here for the same price you pay at CB. We've only eaten breakfast here, the pancakes are huge and the thick cut bacon it tasty. Donna and Dana have been our servers everytime we've been here, both are awesome with knowledge of the huge menu. Give Black Bear a try, you'll never go back to Cravker Barrel if one of these are an option. read more

We saw great reviews and decided we would try it out. I was nervous when I saw it was located in a Petro gas station. We were told it would take 10 minutes to set the table but I couldn't imagine it would take that long as they were not very busy. About 15 minutes later after watching them do basically nothing and tell people their food would be out in another 15 minutes we left! Total waste of time!!!! read more

Amazing!! Food and service were out of this world! We had a little bit of everything . Cinnamon French toast, biscuits with gravy, pancakes, eggs , hash browns and the BACON!! It was thick- not too thick and had a smoky flavor . The hash browns were not stringy and toasted to where they were flat and all you had was a flat piece of over fried potatoes . Crispy on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside . Our waitress name was Shy and she was the sweetest, friendliest most attentive waitress we've had in a very long time. The syrup was so smooth and just the right amount of sweetness. The only thing I can say that I had to adjust for my taste buds is the coffee. Super strong but nothing a little of cream and sugar couldn't fix . I'm not a strong coffee drinker but if you are, highly recommend. There are a few other chain breakfast places around Black Bear but they are no match what so ever for the little diner attached to a convenience store. Don't let the location fool you. I always enjoy dining at Black Bear Diner locations whenever I can because I always get great service and amazing food. The Black Bear Diner in Beaumont, Texas was no exception, and is in fact the best Black Bear Diner I've ever eaten at. The entire staff was wonderful. Norrell, our server, delivered amazing and prompt service with a contagious smile and an inspiring positive attitude. The food was incredible, the atmosphere was casual and homely, and I definitely rank it as one of the best restaurants I've ever dined at. I was a bit disappointed with the place after seeing the reviews and expecting a lot better. To start with, our service was honestly really bad and I'm a pretty forgiving with servers because I've been one in the past. The food redeemed the service a little bit. I got the sourdough burger, my son had pancakes, and my mom got chicken fried steak. My burger was good but nothing spectacular. My son's pancakes had a good flavor but the texture was really off. My moms entire meal was not good at all. The potato salad I got was probably the best part of the entire meal. And the fresh squeezed orange juice is really yummy. As far as the food is concerned, I might give them another try when they've been open a little longer. However, the service makes me not want to return. read more

We've been here quite a few times, and they always impress us between taste, portion size, and service. One meal is enough to feed two people. Everything they serve is hearty and delicious; breakfast, lunch or dinner. My favorite breakfast is the Bruce's Meat Lovers Omelette, but I must suggest you try a bacon cheeseburger here because it's one of the best you can get around! It surprised me!
