This was by far our most disappointing visit to black bear. We usually enjoy coming for a family meal, but this visit had a lot of issues. We ordered the bears choice breakfast, and the prime rib dinner. For the bear's choice breakfast. I chose to get the biscuits and gravy and it was not very good for one thing. The biscuits seemed to be over baked and they were really hard, and there was not much gravy that came with the meal. The dish so it was really dry, which was disappointing And for the prime rib dinner the meat came out a bit overcooked, and the cornbread muffin that it came with was incredibly bad. Not only was the muffin dry, but it also has a weird taste to it like there was way too much salt in the batter. The only thing that was ok was the chocolate pie. I felt that it was mostly cream if anything, but the crust and pie that were in the tin was what we expected. On top of the food issues, I feel like the service was also disappointing. After we got our order taken, which was 15 minutes after we sat down, our waitress just disappeared for the rest of our meal and we had to ask multiple people for boxes and the check which seemed unnecessary.

Black Bear Diner in Downey easily could have earned 4 stars from me, but a couple of major missteps in service were enough to bring it down to 3. I'm a part of Black Bear Diner's E-Club where you can get a free meal as a welcome gift as well as a free meal for your birthday. The free meal is typically the Bear's Choice entree. The Signal Hill location is closest to me, but I was planning to get dessert somewhere between the Downey location and home. After getting dessert, I made my way over to the Black Bear Diner on the south side of Florence between Rives and Paramount, directly across the street from The Marketplace Grill Cafe. Parking shouldn't be an issue here. The parking lot is very spacious that I'm sure if you wanted to dine at other restaurants along Florence, you could park in this lot as well. One thing I love about Black Bear Diner is the bear decor both inside and outside the diner. This is no different here, though I didn't see as much bear decor outside compared to the Signal Hill location. However, they more than make up for with plenty of bear decor and merch inside the well-lit diner. Upon entering, I saw a server behind the order counter, and I told her I wanted to redeem my birthday Bear's Choice entree. I asked her to remind me what the Bear's Choice was even though I knew what it was; I like to do this to get a feel for service. How was it? She mentioned that the Bear's Choice entree would be a pancake with a sausage link, bacon strip, and eggs, the last of which can be cooked to the customer's preference. Right off the bat, I could already sense problems. First, the Bear's Choice is supposed to be a choice of the main entree as well as the meat. For the entree, you're typically allowed a choice of two pancakes, one waffle, two French toast, or two biscuits with gravy. For the meat, you can choose from 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, or a piece of ham steak. You're usually not allowed a mix between two different meats. Also, notice how I said "a pancake" as opposed to "two pancakes" two paragraphs ago? Even though I knew I should have been given more choices, I actually would have chosen the pancakes, and I also would have preferred getting both bacon and sausage in my meal, so I chose to remain silent about my inability to choose my meal of choice, except for the eggs, which I requested scrambled. I asked the server how long it'd take, and she estimated between 7 and 10 minutes. She told me I could take a seat at one of their benches, which have paw prints on them. However, I wanted to explore all the bear merch and decor they have in store. From teddy bears on the wall to bear sculptures on either side of their jukebox, it's hard not to take a photo of them! I also noticed a table that advertised catering by showing what their catering trays look like. I didn't know, but am not surprised, that Black Bear Diner did catering, and I'm sure my co-workers and I would appreciate having Black Bear Diner cater for us one day to start work off on the right foot. 7 minutes after I placed my order, a different server who was serving a table inside noticed me waiting in the lobby and offered to assist me. I told her I had already placed my order and was waiting for it. Suddenly, the server who rang me up had an "Oh crap!" moment when she realized she forgot about my order! She went to the kitchen to box and bag up my order before handing it to me. She seemed to be a little swamped, and I could tell because she forgot to include two things: utensils and condiments. Even though I noticed before leaving, I chose not to ask because I had some at home. Well, I thought I had some pancake syrup, but turns out I only had honey at home. Better than nothing, but not getting a packet of syrup was quite a downer from this Downey diner. Even though I prefer waffles over pancakes, I actually liked the pancakes here more than the waffle from the Signal Hill location. In fact, I'd say I like them better than IHOP's buttermilk pancakes, though I'm also saying that because I'm currently disgruntled with IHOP lol. The pancakes were larger and fluffier, and I unfortunately didn't have enough honey at home for the size of these pancakes. There aren't any compartments to the takeout container, so I had to separate the pancakes manually from the eggs and meat; that way, I wouldn't accidentally pour/spread honey on either/or. The sausage link tasted just like any regular sausage link, and I can say the same about the scrambled eggs as well. However, I can't say the same about the bacon because it was almost burnt! Like a few more seconds on the griddle, and I'm sure they would have had to cook an entirely new strip of bacon for my meal. I saved the bacon for last, thinking it would have tasted the best, but it turned out to be the worst, at least of the four parts of my meal :(. Overall, my experience at this Black Bear Diner met my expectations, but these missteps were definitely avoidable.

Black Bear Diner in Downey is just great. You can have breakfast all day and they have some great sandwiches, bottomless sodas, and wonderful desserts. The place is clean and ever so comfortable. The staff is great. We always love our server. We have been a few times. They know the menu and are pretty fast, but they don't rush you out. The diner is super cute and you will be comfortable here. I love their coffee. On Friday nights they have a special, hand-breaded fish fry and it is great. The pieces are long with just the right amount of coating and never overcooked. The fries are also great. We love their breakfast. Their biscuits and gravy are great and the biscuits are always fresh. You can have that as a side or they come with some of the meals. The Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak and eggs is cooked the way you want it and it is a lot of food. I sometimes share it and order something smaller for the table. You will love their Big Bacon Breakfast. I think it comes with 6 pieces of bacon so I always have some to take home to my dogs. It has everything you want and more. Try this one first. You can dine there and you should because it is fun, but they also have delivery and take away. You will love this place.

I've been to Black Bear Diners in several cities. It was actually mom's first time for brunch here. She not only enjoyed her Bear's Choice breakfast but, loved all things black bear from decor to the cute gift shop. We even purchased earrings and a key chain for her. Our family commonly redeems the birthday Bears Choice Breakdast for being on the emailing list. No shrinkflation at this corporate chain! I just got a simple breakfast of avocado toast, fruit, and scrambled eggs. Solid. Host and server were welcoming and pleasant. 4 Stars. We'll be back.

My family enjoys coming to this location, we always receive exceptional service. Sometimes there is a wait during peak hours but they are very efficient as far as taking orders and getting the food out. Food is delicious, love to indulge on the Big GRIZZ or a chicken steak. I came here on Christmas Day with my mom, sisters, nieces and nephews. Family Christmas brunch at a family kid friendly restaurant is what we were aiming for and got that here at Black Bear Diner. They offer a standard American menu with comfort foods choices. The wait was about 30-45mins. They don't take reservations only first come first serve, so plan ahead especially for busy days like the holidays. The kids were entertained with their kid coloring menus so that was a plus while us adults dived into conversations. We all got nourishing plates. However, my sister claimed her biscuits and gravy were perhaps dry but didn't bother and my mom returned her steak for a medium rare as this is what she originally requested for and didn't get it. Overall, it was a pleasant experience for our family get together at a restaurant. Our server was pleasant and welcoming. No complaints. It was my surprise treat to my family. They didn't know I was paying the bill. Come here for a cozy family time and comfort meal.

I took my family to Black Bear Diner on New Year's Day, which--according to my calculations--was already a risky operation due to people. The place was packed. We queued. We waited. Time passed in a very linear and somewhat unforgiving manner. Eventually, we were seated. Only then were we informed that they were out of chicken tenders. And hot chocolate. The hot chocolate, we were told, has been unavailable since Christmas Day, which raises several questions, none of which were answered. From a systems perspective, this is inefficient. If key menu items are unavailable, especially comfort foods that children (and frankly adults) emotionally rely on, this information should be disclosed before people commit to standing in line like obedient humans awaiting a software update. Instead, we waited, sat down, and only then discovered the truth. This is misleading, poorly managed, and a waste of valuable family time--time that could have been spent doing literally anything else, including staring at a wall. In conclusion: good bears, questionable planning. Please update your system. Or at the very least, put up a sign.

The food portions were great and taste was good. Really followed through on how we requested the food. The con is that my food wasn't that warm and my dad's food was cold. The waitress was nice and offered to get different eggs, warmer, but by the time she had checked in we were already halfway through our food. We did wait for the food for a bit and did notice a table get their food before us despite us getting seated before them. It was busy but it wasn't a long wait to get seated. The place was clean and nice. Other than that, the pancakes were really good. Better than the French toast that I've tried before

Met up with my mom and sister for a quick breakfast. It was my first time here, place was bigger than the signal hill location and it has tall ceilings, which I like. Right away, the host sat us down, there was no wait. Got our menus and drink orders were place. We ordered a few things: red, white and blue pancakes, the scramBOWL, the grizzly and a one egg combo. We each enjoyed our meal and everyone agreed that our meal was yummy. My pancakes were soft and flavorful, I believe I read that the pancakes are made with sweet cream, not 100% but they were tasty. I appreciate the cleanliness and welcoming environment. Plenty of people walking in while we ate, so its a busy place.

One might think that with the huge crowds at this BBD location, the food must be phenomenal but I have to say that after coming here regularly (I live a few blocks away) the food is just alright. It's definitely a step above Norms/Denny's but I wouldn't say it's amazing. The item I've liked most is their veggie scramble. On another occasion I had the tuna melt and it was good. On my last visit I had the egg sandwich (I can't remember the actual name) and it was meh. It was a little cold which was odd because we went at 7am before the restaurant gets packed and we were only one of 2 maybe 3 parties there at that time. My partner got their waffle and it was so bland, it tasted like nothing. I am also not a fan of their coffee, it's super watered down. I do like that their OJ is fresh squeezed, so that's a plus. Overall I will probably continue to come back because my husband is a rewards member and he gets a free entree on his birthday but other than that, I won't say I recommend it especially because of their huge crowds and long wait times for food that's just okay.

If I could give 0 stars I would Normally I have their food it is good quality.Came for brunch. My sister had breakfast the bacon and eggs was brunt and I ordered homemade chili's. First they didn't bring out the cornbread. It took my waitress 10 minutes to tell me they don't have any cornbread. No apologies. She never came back to ask if we needed anything nor if we needed refills. They are under staff. I will never go back here. I will drive all the way to La Habra before I come back here. If you love diner food and big portions this is the spot!! My boyfriend and I decided to give this a try since it was by his house and I love diner foods even though it has 3 stars we gave it a shot! They have their own parking lot!! Once we went in, we felt like we were in big bear or somewhere up in the mountains! The vibe and decorations were spot on! Cozy cute and cabin feel. The entrance front has souvenirs you can buy. We didn't wait very long to get seated but we could tell the service was pretty slow. There menu options are endless!! Everything you can think of they have it! I was definitely eyeing in the meatloaf and the waitress recommended my boyfriend their most popular dish is the chicken steak. We chose the smaller portion since the waitress says there serving is very big even the smaller portion. We also ordered a vanilla malt milkshake and for dessert we ordered a blackberry cobbler. The waitress was no joking when she says the portions are huge!!! Even for the smaller portion I had to take mine to go! Everything looked really good and it was also very delish! The only problem was the food wasn't very hot. Milkshake was pretty good very generous with the whip cream and the cobbler was alright, there was too much filling I was expecting a pie crust dough underneath but it was just a bowl of blackberry with one pie crust on top for the cover. My boyfriend's chicken and steak was really good think and crispy the only complaint he made was that his veggies were a bit undercook. Overall I definitely want to come back and to try their pot roast as the banana cream pie! Food was definitely affordable for how much they given us! Been here many times and typically have a good experience but today was the best. Went to dinner with the family and had the pleasure to have Mike as our waiter. Mike has the friendliest disposition and is so attentive. He made sure we were aware of all our meal options, that the food was to our satisfaction and that our overall experience was enjoyed by everyone in the table. The good was also super yummy. So extremely disappointed in this restaurant. The waitress staff was horrible, we constantly had to repeat ourselves multiple times. How many times can we say extra ranch? And not get it....how many times do you need to hear extra pickles to say no pickles. The food was meh. The baked potato was flaky and not good at all, the food wasn't super hot. Drinks, no drink refills, even though we asked several times, and when it did come, our ICED SWEET TEA was HOT. Like a hot tea. The restaurant is not kept clean either. Dirty tables, things on the floor. The ambiance is not great either, loud country music blasting. Quite disappointed to say the least. Also when we went to do the check the waitress was on the phone, ignoring us. Now to edit, we did speak to the manager Jose afterwards, to make sure he knew and so he could maybe change it. and he made it right. read more

On a New Year's Day in early January, my hubby and I drove here to eat breakfast at 8:30am. We got seated right away and it wasn't too busy. We got seated across from the bar. Our waitress was very nice and took our drinks. Next I ordered the bears choice with French toast, 2 sausages, scrambled eggs, and crispy hash browns. The food came within 10min. Everything was delicious. She came by few times on refills and checked on us. By 9:15am, the place got busy of all tables got filled. We were done and paid our check at cashier desk. read more

Black Bear Diner is by far one of my favorite spots to go with my family, especially for breakfast! The Staff was amazing, very warm and welcoming. Dafne was very friendly, knowledgeable && very consistent with our refills and just checking in to make sure our party was well taken care of. The manager Enrique is very friendly and has a good sense of humor with the kids at our table . Keep it up black bear diner , wwill definitely be back soon read more

They partnered with Postmates in an effort deliver food. Black Bear Diner is horrible. I am still trying to get my refund for the order that they never delivered and are posted and Postmates took my money. Postmates tried to call them numerous times and I did as well. They never answered the phone. Please do not participate in any part of this establishment. Their customer service and hospitality is incredibly horrible. I will never order anything nor dine at this location again. Their staff needs to be fired. read more

The Black Bear Diner in Downey is a great restaurant for large portions of comfort food & great ambiance! If you've never been to The Black Bear Diner, I'll do my best to describe it. It reminds me like a diner that's a little like Disneyland, due to their gift shop and bear themed mementos and decor. The food has your typical diner food & a good selection of desserts. They even have cold brew coffee. A lot of the menu items sounded good, but I went with the pot roast which was excellent!! It also came with a soup or salad and the best part, the cornbread. The cornbread was so delicious! We ate here on a lazy Saturday afternoon around 5/6pm, which was perfect ambiance. Not overly crowded and we were served by the awesome Mike! I can't say enough on how he made our dining experience fun and pleasurable. He was very charming, funny, and attentive! I'd definitely recommend coming whenever he's working because he had such a great attitude and was so fun. Next time I come I'll be ordering the carrot cake it looked good. read more

Very disappointing coming here to start off the day with a delicious breakfast especially since it's my birthday, came at a good time,not too many people but overall the atmosphere was bad not from the customers but from the people working there, I start off with my server who had a bad attitude going on don't know what her problem was but not customer friendly especially knowing it's my birthday, staff was not on it in services period but I do recall the one who was on it was the busboy cleaning and giving a smile, the food was ok overpriced for something I can do at home, management needs to work on staff asap!! read more

I visited Black Bear diner last night with my kids who enjoyed their meals from the kids menu. I was torn between the pot roast and the roasted turkey dinner, ultimately choosing the turkey, which is advertised as 8 ounces of turkey breast. While my kids started their meals, I waited a bit longer for mine, which was fine. When my dinner finally arrived, I noticed the turkey looked different than expected. The texture was off, leading me to suspect it wasn't actually turkey breast. I asked the waitress if it was deli meat, and she casually replied that it was "technically turkey breast." I was appalled. There was no apology or warning about the substitution. If I had known, they didn't have turkey breast, I would've opted for the pot roast, especially since the waitress didn't mention this when I asked for her recommendation. I also spoke to the hostess about not wanting to be charged for a dish and couldn't eat. Had not been for a charity event, I would've push harder for a refund. Additionally, my kids weren't offered ice cream options after meals when I asked the waitress if they could have it, she looked at them and asked if they really wanted it - who even asks that? I was looking for a yummy breakfast spot before we went to the movies and found out there was. Black Bear Diner nearby. It was packed and people were waiting so we sat at the counter. We were given menus that look like newspapers and I got to reading!!! I order a build your own breakfast which was two sausages, a waffle and two eggs with cheese and salsa on the side. My hubs ordered apple pie a la mode, and the Volcano. The Volcano was three tiered pancakes, bacon and sausage and scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious!!! Since we were at the counter we could see all the orders! Every plate was g had massive servings!!! If you come here bring your appetite!!! I saved the best for last our server BRENDA!!!! My first experience at black bear diner wasn't the best. I got the chicken fried steak dinner, and I still don't recommend it, the vegetables were not tasty. But I have came back about 5 more times and I really enjoy it. The pancakes are amazing and with every meal you get, it's a big serving size so you will get full. I have recently tried the western BBQ burger and it's so good. They serve it on what looks like a brioche bread, great move. Brioche bread is soft and holds up well. The fries are tasty too, probably frozen fries but they are crispy. My husband gets the chicken fried steak breakfast with hash brown and wheat toast instead of biscuits. The biscuits are really good and they're huge but the toast is also good. Simple but they put butter on it and you can add jam. Very tasty and it's more than enough food. read more

When I arrived at the restaurant in Downey on Florence, I sat down at the counter lady who assisted me had a bad attitude kind of ruined my day a little bit I quickly cancel my order and left won't ever return again ever those people there have no sense of values. Chicken fried steak was on my mind, but I was in no shape physically or mentally to make it for just myself. Lo and behold, the newish Black Bear Diner in Downey had it on their menu (7/21/20). So through the Postmates app, I ordered contactless delivery. The driver was very friendly and our order arrived a bit earlier than anticipated. The order arrived in two large brown paper bags. I remember thinking, dang, that's a lot of stuff for me to recycle. My "Bear Paw Chicken Fried Steak" ($15.39) came with country gravy, steamed broccoli and carrots, salad, and red-skinned mashed potatoes with gravy. The gravy was packed on the side. The steak seemed a bit small, but it had good flavor with that gravy. Not too salty. I need more gravy than that though... My oldest had the "Cubs' Mini Volcano" meal ($6.09) which is a couple of pancakes, an over easy egg, a sausage link, a strip of bacon, and plenty of whipped butter and syrup on the side. She was in heaven. My youngest opted for the "Cubs' Brandi's favorite mac & cheese" ($5.49) with fries. She wanted some sausage, so I ordered a 3-link side ($5.49). She was happy as pie too. I think my meal also came with a muffin. I let the kiddos have that. Seemed enjoyable. The service here is bottom line, the servers argue in front of customers, they never check on tables. We have come multiple times to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it has remained the same. The food is mediocre, if you need anything you're better off going to the counter than waiting for a server to come by and help you. read more

Our family loves to come here for breakfast/brunch. The sweet cream pancakes have my heart! The staff is always very attentive and accommodating to our kids. The service here can be a tad bit slow but the servers are all really nice and helpful. The food is worth the wait, the plates look fantastic and the food is just delicious. They have a huge menu and offer a ton of desserts. I like to end my meal with a mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream. Came to eat here this morning thursday march 13 and service was horrible. We got seated quickly, but from there on things went bad. We were the first out of about 4 tables to get seated but yet we were the last one to place our order. Our server Brenda came to take our drink order but yet took about 5 mins to come back and deliver them. Brenda also dropped off drinks to the table behind us and asked them what they wanted to eat but they werent ready so she walked away but didnt come back to our table to take our food order. Again another 5-10 mins past before coming to take our order, we ordered corned beef hash, and the grizz, we asked for hash browns on both order. Once we received our food both plates had country potatoes. The country potatoes were mushy and tasted over cooked. We couldnt even ask her if we made a mistake on our order because she never came back to check on us. Brenda walked around to all her other tables to check on them but kept skipping us. Food at this place could be good, we like it we just dont frequent it often due to the bad service. We couldnt even complain about service upon paying due to the cashier not even trying to make conversation with us. read more

Established in 1995.

In 1861 a gold prospector named Sisson fell in love with and opened an inn in Strawberry Valley - a quaint mountain meadow at the foot of Mt. Shasta, California, frequented by black bears and people alike. The friendly atmosphere and large portions of homestyle food became their standard, so when Bob and Laurie Manley and their partner Bruce Dean opened the first Black Bear Diner on that in 1995, they were determined to rekindle the same hospitality lavished upon early Strawberry Valley guests. The menu, service, and decor were designed to remind guests of a time when life was a little simpler, and service and quality were the cornerstones of business. Although we've grown from a single location in Mt. Shasta to 150+ restaurants, all are dedicated to the same simple concepts.

Meet the Business Owner: Bob and Laurie M and Bruce D.

In 1995, founders Bob & Laurie Manley, along with founding partner Bruce Dean, created the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, California. They chose the name Black Bear Diner because the legendary black bear is native to the Mt. Shasta area. Unfortunately, my refund was not honored because the manager, Aimee, was not present. Karely, the lead on duty, seemed unsure of how to handle the situation and attempted to explain that the sour taste was simply the lemon in the ricotta. That explanation was disappointing because there is a clear difference between the intended lemon flavor and the taste of spoiled dairy. What upset me most was the lack of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. As a customer, I expected the issue to be taken seriously, especially when food safety is involved. If a manager is unavailable, staff should be properly trained and empowered to handle customer concerns appropriately. I am currently four months pregnant, which made this experience even more concerning. I wasted my time, gas, and energy driving back to the restaurant, only to leave without a refund or any resolution. This was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in Downey, and unfortunately, I will not be returning.

My friend and I arrived at the Black Bear Diner in Downey around 9:30 PM, just 30 minutes prior to their closing time. Despite the late hour, we were warmly welcomed with the same level of hospitality one would receive during the peak hours around 2 PM. Our server, a delightful woman in her 30s or 40s with a Caucasian background, was an absolute gem. She exuded a wonderful sense of humor and kindness that made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. She effortlessly handled all our requests and frequently checked in on us, ensuring our needs were met. Having also dined at the Black Bear Diners in Tarzana and Merced, California, I can confidently attest that this Downey location upholds the same level of greatness as its counterparts. The inviting atmosphere that is synonymous with Black Bear Diner was as palpable here as it is in other locations. Personally, I have a particular fondness for the "mama burn" sauce, as I find "baby burn" to be more of a condiment, while "papa burn" tends to be excessively spicy for my taste. Although our food was delivered a bit later than anticipated due to a larger party that arrived just before us, we were never made to feel rushed. In fact, the staff graciously ensured that we were comfortable and even offered refills on our drinks. This exceptional level of service left a positive impression, and I can confidently say that I will be a returning patron. Worst experience ever during Covid!!! Craved chicken fried steak got caught location was completely empty with the exception of one table in this is outside dining. Plenty of servers. Servers had mask and gloves and have a nice social distance... Waited to be seated take a few minutes but the place was completely empty.Place an order within minutes because already knew what I wanted chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and the vegetables gravy on the side salad with dressing on the side. Placed the order told they did not have the corn bread would have to have either toast or a biscuit fine 48 minutes later still waiting for food spoke to the manager. The table had not been cleared food on plates still from the solid bread crumbs everywhere not one refill not even correct silverware which was asked for twice. Tattoo remake the one order which was smothered in gravy which was supposed to be on the side after a complete waiting of almost an hour and 15 minutes dinner was completed was the worst experience ever I will choose to never dined at a black bear ever again. There is no excuse to have staff on hand and to ignore a table. Especially when you are struggling as a restaurant to make money!!! Not to mention the attitude which was totally unnecessary by the server who was in the wrong and didn't even attempts to take care of her table extremely rude! read more

We had such a wonderful experience at Black Bear Diner in Downey, thanks to our waiter Mike. We were the last customers in the restaurant, and although the diner closes at 10:00 pm (we were still there around 10:17 pm), we never once felt rushed or uncomfortable. Mike was incredibly patient, kind, and professional from the very beginning until the end. What truly stood out was his attitude -- he had a genuine, warm smile the entire time, even late at night. He checked on us at just the right moments, making sure we had everything we needed, from napkins to refills, without ever making us feel pressured to hurry. So often when you're dining close to closing time, you can feel the tension or impatience from staff, but Mike was the complete opposite. He made us feel welcomed, respected, and cared for, as if we were dining during peak hours. Decided to stop by for breakfast today. We have been there many times but today we were quite disappointed in the service that was provided by the order taker (Brenda). She approached the table , and took out drink orders and luckily we were ready to order. Point is we saw her take about 5-6 other tables drink orders and food orders and I'm assuming she forgot we had even ordered. The funny part was that our food came , we ate literally finished and our drinks never came, neither did she stop to check on the table. It wasn't until I asked a bus boy for 2 cups of waters. She can clearly not multitask or call her self a server if she cannot fulfill the job and provide the minimum service. She came by and said is there any plates I can take when clearly there was empty plates on the table. She then came back with the check , she didn't even ask if we wanted anything else as we still were not finished. Im giving the 2 stars for the delicious food, otherwise definitely a 5 , we will be back but will request to not be seated in Brenda's section. read more

How do i even start!!!! the greet was wonderful got sat right away server Emely!!! was very attentive !!:D great server explained what they didnt have at that moment was a bit disapointed but better thab not knowing i ordered chicken fried steak with mash and coleslaw it took 45!!!! 45 minutes for my food to come out !!!!! horrible cold mash potatoes and dry gravy if it wasnt for emely my server i would have left the kitchen staff was in there phones with earphones talking laughing not focused ... i think this place should be checked the kitchen staff does not look like they care ... on the other hand EMELY was a wonderful server she apologized and made me feel comfortable she changed my potatoes for a better ones like i said if it wasnt for her i would of walked out !!!! I went There on Monday July 22nd. Service was extremely slow and bad. I was there with a handicapped person and I asked if I could sit in front and They told me they had to puts us in the back by the window Flies all over the window inside the restaurant and Flying on our food. When I got home I called Black bears corporate office filed a complaint and told me the manager of that restaurant would call me back within 24hrs will it been 4days now and no call back If this was my 1st time going into a black bear dinner it would me my last. I dont know why i see all these negative comments here my experience was not like other people here ... where do i stat it was a party of 6 my aunts birthday :)! we sat 3 mins as we walked in ... Had an awesome time at Black Bear Diner in Downey, and our server Ysis was great! She was friendly, attentive, and super on top of everything. At one point, I made a ridiculous face at my daughter (something we do all the time to crack each other up), and I caught Ysis looking a little thrown off--understandably so! I visited this location with my dad and our experience was fantastic! The customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere was really nice. I ordered The Grizz, and my dad had a ham sandwich (I can't recall the exact name), but it was delicious! We shared our food, took some leftovers to-go, and couldn't stop raving about the pancakes--they were amazing. Overall, it was such a great dining experience. I highly recommend this place!
