Have had very high hopes all 5 times that I have visited black bear diner. The Draper location, the West Jordan location and the new Lehi location. Every occasion I have left disappointed. Pros: the eggs, the bacon or sausage, the crispy hashbrowns, the service. Cons: the Biscuits( hard and dry, every time) this was the biggest disappointment being raised in the south. The pancakes (also hard and dry), same for the waffles! Asked for ranch- received nasty bacon ranch BLT (can make better at my house, and not filling) fries (undercooked and soggy) hollandaise sauce on eggs Benedict is marginal Bottom line, it doesn't hold a candle to what it should or could be. The place is clean and nice decor. But for me the food wasn't good at all. It was edible. Chicken fried steak was over breaded and the steak was super thi. You couldn't even taste it. The potatoes with gravy wasn't bad, Italian green beans wasn't terrible. Guess you only get the cornbread muffin if you get a salad or soup with meal. And well I turned the salad and soup down and didn't get no cornbread. Place wasn't very busy and service could use some work. Someone got the apple cobbler to go and it was cold. It's one of the better ones in the state. More importantly are the people in the area. An old couple could see visibly that I wasn't well, as I lay my head on the table. They finished their meal and came over to us. They mentioned how all my cute girls couldn't have been mine until he saw how tired I was. Then he said for sure they were mine! Really I just wasn't feeling well. My wife later told me that the nice couple paid for our meal. I didn't know because I left to the car early as I felt terribly sick. As a service member, I get this appreciation a lot and many pay for our meals. Despite my being in the service, this wonderful couple still paid it forward as they saw a very tired mom and dad. This location is hit or miss. If it's not busy, it's usually a solid B. When it's busy, all bets are off. It turns into a total shit show. We love the food and typically it's great. I know that I can count on every time I come here it being great food and the best service. I love the atmosphere as well. It's a great place to bring my kids and grandchildren because everyone can find something to eat that they like. Their "little less" portions are just perfect for me and they have several dishes that are spectacular that you have to try like their pancakes, chicken fried steak, meatloaf, breakfast burrito, and of course their great hamburgers and fresh squeezed orange juice! Very annoyed with this place. Went for lunch at 1:00. Restaurant not very busy, lots of servers walking around. We had a group of 8 adults and 3 kids and you'd think that we overwhelmed them as if we were a party of 100. Took until 1:40 before they could seat us. There were no parties in front of us, we just sat there forever waiting. 2/3 of the tables were empty in the restaurant. After sitting down, they promptly took our order at 1:45. And then we sat and waited. By 2:40 I asked our (incompetent) server Taylor how much longer he thinks it'll be and he said another 20 minutes. I raised my eyebrows, and he snapped "well I don't know what you want me to do about it". I told him "I'd like you to cancel our order. That's what you can do about it". We walked out and will literally never go back. Very frustrating for our entire group. read more

Be prepare to wait an hour or plus for your food and good service isn't that what we all go to restaurants for? Let me start off with I had to wait 10 minutes before someone noticed I was waiting to be seated. Then I ordered a Tuna sandwich and my son ordered a kids fish dinner 25 minutes later they came to our table to tell us they are out of tuna. To top it off my sons food was not ready and they didn't even care to say if we still wanted my sons meal. The manager was very nervous and asked 3 times if I wanted something else. I told her to stop breathing on me and give me a couple of minutes to decide. Then she said If I pick steak it would take 20 more minutes. I don't even eat meat. She was all over the place. I pushed for my sons food and it was finally ready if it weren't for him I would have walked out. I just kept the soup that I had originally ordered. Stopped in with a coworker for lunch today. Before we even had a chance to peruse the menu, Connie, our server, showed up to get our drink order and let us know about a dish she had tried earlier that day. I would never have ordered the huevos rancheros but her rave review won me over. It did not disappoint. The chorizo and over-easy egg on top of the crispy tostada with re-fried beans, cotija, tomatoes and cilantro. Terrible experience with mediocre food. Wait was 40 minutes before we received our food, which was a turkey pesto sandwich and the reubon. Reubon was burnt to the point of being inedible. The turkey pesto was ordered with no lettuce, add cucumbers. They did not put pesto or cucumbers on the sandwich and we had to ask for the cucumbers again. Waitress would ask a question and leave before an answer could be given with the restaurant being only at half capacity. Will not come back. read more

This was a week ago today. We ordered food through Uber eats $50 worth of food. It was about 8:20 PM when we place the order. About 945 since I had not heard anything in the Uber app the driver disappeared. I called the Black bear diner. This is when they informed me that someone else picked up my order. They're not sure if it was another delivery service or if it was anyone else off the street. I was shocked at this I asked don't you have a policy in place where they need to check the order with the app to make sure that the drivers taking the right meal. They said they're too busy for that and they don't have this in place. They then told me it was too late to place another order because the cooks went home. So here it is past 10 PM all the places are closed and I did not have any food in my house so we did not get dinner last Sunday night. I explained this to the employees they tell me they were very understaffed and it was out of their hands and there was nothing they were going to do to help me. They told me to call Uber eats and that was all they said. I said you guys have to take some responsibility. They said no they don't they were trying to pass the buck and just wanted me off the phone as quickly as possible. I didn't ask them so anyone on the street could just walk in grab anybody order and lock away and the customer is out of money and out of a meal. They said yes technically you could do that. I've never been treated so poorly in my life they were very rude very quick to get off the phone they can't tell me there was nothing they were going to do there's nothing there Manager was going to call Uber eats. They kept trying to get me off the phone. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. In this day and age with Covid you would think they would want to keep there customers happy. I've been supervisors managers for all sorts of places. What they should've done they should take a responsibility said we will replace your milk for tomorrow night on us. But they didn't. I called the next night and spoke to the manager she basically told me the same thing just try to get me off the phone was passing the buck was not taking any responsibility. Very disappointed in company. I would think twice about placing an order with this place if I was anybody else out there because this could happen to you. I'm very disappointed. read more

But this location in particular seemed to struggle with getting food out in a timely manner, not only that but I couldn't help but notice they were on a wait even though there was plenty tables open. I don't know about you, but if I'm on a wait and it doesn't seem busy, I get agitated! I understand there's other things that factor into going on waits. Just seems frustrating. Black bear finally open for dine in. me and my fiancé live in eagle mountain and will make the drive to this location every time! food is amazing, my fiancé always gets the scramble bowl and the other locations we have gone to don't put peppers or onions in it (very sad). This location recently opened and I've never been, so my husband and I decided to try it out. The decor is really cute, and my daughter loved all the carved bears everywhere. When we arrived we noticed the place was packed, but we weren't in a rush so it was fine. We were seated within 5 minutes of walking in (there was a party ahead of us). The menus are newspapers. You open them up and the food is listed inside, it's really cute. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. The prices are decent considering the portion size that you receive. They're huge! Even the kids portions are very large. Our waiter (Bridger, I think?? I can't remember), was so extremely helpful and friendly. He made recommendations, kept our drinks filled (a huge plus in my book), kept us up to date on our food, a was so genuinely nice. Unfortunately for us we seemed to pick a bad day to try BBD. There was only one cook, so they were extremely backed up. It took about 45 minutes to get our food, which wasn't an issue for us. There were however quite a few table that left before receiving food. As we waited Bridger (?) brought us crackers and a salad to snack on, which was much appreciated as I skipped breakfast that morning since I knew we'd be eating here for lunch. Once the food did come, it did not disappoint. I have the deluxe tri tip sandwich. It was really good! The au jus could have used a little more flavor, but it was still tasty. My husband had the club sandwich, and it was good but some of the toast was burnt. Like burnt black. As we were paying our check, they offered a free pie since we had such a long wait. We got banana cream pie. SO GOOD!! Their pies are amazing. I'm excited to go back and give this place another try! There were like 10 different things I want to try on their menu. And I figure if they handled themselves that well on a hectic day, they must be extra amazing on a "normal" day. read more

First I wish yelp would do a double star system. One for service and one for for food. That said we arrived today, Saturday and expected it to be busy. We were told it would be 5 minutes it actually only took 2 minutes. The server took our order very quickly, that's were the good service stopped. For a garden burger with kettle chips and a taco salad it took 25 minutes. To make matters worse my sandwich when delivered was missing the chips, she said the take longer, really more than 25 minutes. The food as with all the black bear diners we've been too was excellent. This was one of the worst first experiences I have ever had. It was so bad that I actually downloaded this app for the first time just to write a review. We came into the diner at 6:15, they told us it was a 15 min wait. We waited until 6:45 when I had to go ask the waitress what the hold up was- they forgot we were waiting. Around 7 we finally sat down and we waited an additional 45 min to get our food. It took over and hour and half to get seated and to get food. Absolutely ridiculous. Typically I love coming for super quick service and desired portions.... however this new location in Draper is the worst In the state! Out of chicken for most dishes, and our food took 55 minutes and we were still missing a meal! I would definitely avoid this location. Cooks,servers all round have no clue how to run there service.
