Homemade Meatloaf with Crispy Onion Straws. Oh the French beans are excellent
Judy B.

First time for dinner have been for lunch. We were greeted upon arrival and taken to our table. Our hostess was nice and chatty which was fun Waitress took a few motto get with us but she was great at answering our questions and giving us time to look over the menu Husband ordered chicken fried steak with a salad and baked potato. I ordered meat loaf with fries and green beans and a cup of the loaded potato soup. Soup hit the spot since the outside temperature was 7 I needed something warm for a starter. Food came and there was plenty of it. We enjoyed the cornbread muffins which came before dinner with real butter and honey. Chicken fried steak was done just right. Not dry, still moist. Meat loaf was 3 pieces with onion straws and brown gravy. I enjoyed the meat loaf. Onion straws were overcooked and tased a little burned. Brown gravy was great. We ended up taking some of each home. French fries were eaten but mostly for the dog that was waiting patiently at home. The diner is so much nicer than the old Johnson Corner restaurant. It's nice that they renovated the inside. Tables and booth are far enough apart that you don't hear other's conversations. If you're traveling I25 and want to eat as in sit down eat stop here. The big new gas stop down the road may have food but you can't sit down and eat it there.

Black Bear Diner is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out can be so special. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed like family and surrounded by a cozy, rustic atmosphere that just makes you feel at home. The portions are huge (bring your appetite!) and the food is always hot, fresh, and full of flavor. What stood out most to me was how much care goes into every plate--from the fluffy pancakes and hearty breakfasts to the savory comfort food dinners. And don't even get me started on the desserts... absolutely worth saving room for! The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel like you're a regular, even if it's your first visit. Whether you're grabbing breakfast, brunch, or dinner, you'll leave satisfied, smiling, and probably already planning your next trip back. Honestly, this place speaks for itself--if you want a true diner experience with food that never disappoints, Black Bear Diner is it. Once you try it, you won't even feel the need to look anywhere else.

Server was very pleasant. Although we weren't ever checked on prior to our food being brought out. No one came by to say your order will be out soon NOTHING! Service was HORRIBLE! Food took forever to be brought to our table. Husband had chili was just ok. We split a patty melt, asked for well done very pink inside didn't finish. Decorations are always cute with the bears, however not worth eating here.

You won't believe what's happened to the old Johnson's corner, the famous landmark in Colorado! It's now a Black Bear Diner! I've been to a few Black Bear diners in Northern California and Arizona, and they've all been pretty great. But this one stood out. It's got a bigger space, a really cool atmosphere, and fast and friendly service. So far, it's definitely my favorite Black Bear diner. The place is spotless, and the service was fast and friendly. Our server, Caleb, was amazing! And the restaurant manager, Toya, went from table to table to make sure everything was perfect. I will be going there again in the near future. As with all other Black Bear Diners, I recommend this one too!

Great breakfast. Friendly service. Not too noisy even though it is part of the truck stop. Lots of car parking.

The food presentation was an A+. The portion size was an A+. The food itself was probably a C. It looked pretty and there was a ton of it. It just was really, bland. The service was good but the waitstaff walking around with stuffed black bears strapped to their backs was a ridiculous gimmick that falls flat . I won't go back until the taste improves.

Our first visit here was right at the grand opening when corporate was on site, training. Everything was spectacular from our greeting, service was top notch, fun ambiance, food was timely, hot and tasty. Fast forward to Sunday morning, July 13th when I wanted to take my daughter and granddaughter. Could not get greeted even with 5 employees in the area. Took 7 minutes to even put our name in for a 40 minute wait with half the tables empty! Got seated, and we were told although the menu states breakfast and dinner ALL day, the cooks freak out if anyone orders a dinner item, so breakfast was all that could be ordered. Out of mushrooms. Took close to an hour more to get our food. What happened here? Lady at the register kept reaching into the drawer and putting something into her mouth. Food was okay, certainly not great. Lettuce was rusty, looked very old. Needless to say, we will not come back and my bragging this place up is over.

The food is very fresh and the choices are vast. Something for everyone here so young and old will enjoy their meals here. It does get busy on weekends and holidays but is steady at other times as well. Only open till two, I suggest you go earlier. Good to consider is the 3 Egg breakfast with the bacon and fruit, the pancake flight with the Cinnamon Roll pancake as well as the regular pancake flight, The Cure drink, The ABCLT with salad. Plus the omelets are good as well. The only thing we found that wasn't great on the menu were the hash browns on multiple visits so sub them out if you can. They also don't seat parties together always even when tables open up near the first party so be aware of that. Other than that a great place! You can be seated inside or out. Service is generally very good. Parking is easy right outside. There are restrooms that are clean. There is a bar in the back. So many great things to be eaten here so come hungry!

My daughter and I headed to Urban Egg STARVING. PSA if…read moreusing Maps for directions - it took us through an alley but actually the restaurant faces College Ave. We were warmly greeted by Sam who ended up being our server. We immediately had drink orders taken and recommendations offered. The menu has something for everyone- pancakes, French toast, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, bennys, omelets, and the there is a healthy choice menu as well as gf items; Non alcoholic as well as alcoholic cocktails, juices, and coffees available. I ordered a cappuccino to start with and it had a TON of froth on top- perfection! My daughter had a juice drink called the Cure- it was a bit heavy in the coconut water for her taste but it was delicious and came with a fresh slice of pineapple. We selected The breakfast sandwich and the blue corn huevos rancheros and we split a side cinnamon roll pancake. Let's talk perfection in a pancake-- this topped anything I've ever tasted- the fluffiest, softest, flavorful pancake. Perfect drizzles of cinnamon sugar covered with frosting. So so good. Lemon ricotta pancakes will be the choice next time. Didn't need syrup but it came warm and, heck yeah! Both our dishes came with hash browns which for our preference could have used a bit more crisp and salt( salt easily remedied). The breakfast sandwich had scrumptious, thick sourdough and generous portions of bacon, with pesto aioli and eggs of choice. Every bite was eaten, even the crusts -(adulting)! The huevos rancheros were tasty- perfect base of crunch but the main attraction was the soft and flavorful scrambled eggs and chorizo topped with Avacado crema. Taste buds satisfied as well as our hunger. Although we came in starving we had food to spare. Sam was attentive and friendly and we lingered in a comfortable setting. Ladies- check out the wishing wall in the restrooms- cute customer forward touch! Prices reasonable for all the food- you won't be sorry checking this place out.

Not only is it cheaper than Urban Egg (which we still love and go to, but just facts here) but it is also delicious. I have had the pancakes, eggs and bacon plate and also the classic benedict and both were delicious. Mimosas are cheap and awesome and you can get a flight of different breakfast cocktails to try. The atmosphere is kind of a funky diner vibe, which I love, and the staff are all very cool and friendly. I honestly like sitting at the bar here. Anyway-give them a try. My second visit I think I had some kind of Mexican omelet and it was delicious as well. The wait staff is always top notch. On my most recent visit, we once again had excellent service. I don't remember her name by she has tattoos on her ears and is not Hispanic. She's awesome. Now for the two star review. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. I can't believe l didn't send it back. The "steak" wouldn't even qualify as meat, let alone steak. It was mushy like pablum and was made to be eaten with a spoon. It was disgusting. It had some type of flavor, but it wasn't meat. I can't believe they had the nerve to call it "steak". I tried scraping off the 'fried' part but the whole thing had no body to it whatsoever and just fell apart. To be fair, my husband had a traditional bacon and eggs meal and he said it was good. What the heck happened? I know the prices of meat have gone up but again- it was not meat. Don't restaurants usually go to a cheaper cut of real meat? I was so disappointed and grossed out at the same time. I don't know if I can ever go back.

We went in, and the hostess was just simply unresponsive and just made us wait by the stand for a while without acknowledging that we were there. For that reason, we saw an open table and went and sat down, and to our surprise, the same hostess actually brought us the menu. After a few minutes, the restaurant owner or possibly the manager walked up to me and, with the most rude and condescending attitude and tone, told us that we couldn't sit there and to leave the establishment. The fact that they saw a 15-month-old with me and didn't help from the beginning and then processed to kick me out like I was an idiot to them blew my mind. I left because if you are a mom and have a hungry toddler, it takes every ounce of you to not fight but to walk away and find another place to feed your child. I did call back shortly to speak with the manager, and he totally denied what happened and said he was simply informing me that the table was "reserved" and we couldn't sit there. Well, if it was reserved, was your hostess that clueless that she actually walked up to us and brought the menus and she couldn't come and say, "Sorry, can I move you somewhere else? We have a reservation for this specific table." Needless to say, I will never return to this place.

She consistently misses the mark on basic customer service. She rarely acknowledges guests, seems far more focused on making drinks than paying attention to the people sitting in front of her, and creates an overall unwelcoming atmosphere. On my most recent visit, I sat waiting for nearly 15 minutes without being acknowledged. It wasn't until I asked for my check because I was ready to leave that she suddenly asked if I was planning to eat. That level of inattentiveness is frustrating and completely avoidable. It's especially disappointing because the location is fantastic, the vibe is great, the food is consistently excellent, and every other bartender and staff member I've interacted with, including the manager, has been amazing. There are some truly great bartenders there who provide attentive, friendly service and make the experience enjoyable. But if I walk in and see her behind the bar, I will not stay. She has completely turned me off from being there when she is working. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because the rest of the team and the overall experience deserve better than this one recurring issue. I am giving this review one star simply because of the continued experience with her.
