Winter 2025, Vegetarian Omelette plus a side of thick bacon :)
    Kathleen K.

We came here for a late breakfast on Thanksgiving & everything was great! The menu was limited due to it being a holiday so my husband ended up having the country fried steak with scrambled eggs whites & hash brown potatoes. Everything was delish with his breakfast with the only complaint being that it was just so much food & they cooked the hash browns perfectly! I had the veggie egg white omelette with the home fried potatoes & all was delish with mine as well, so much food that I ended up eating half of my omelette! We've been to another location & there was definitely a noticeable difference in a positive way. The cook definitely took pride in what he was sending out because it was obvious in the plating of the food. Our server was very attentive in taking care of us even though it was getting ready to be a shift change! We're always a little skeptical in trying a sister location if we've become used to our go to spot but we're glad that we tried out the Diner in Laveen! It definitely shows that Black Bear Diner stays consistent & that can sometimes be hard to come by!

Want to send a big THANK YOU to Black Bear Diner. This is the fourth year our company has had our Veterans Day breakfast at this location. They were very accommodating and even managed to seat us together. The food was great and the service was even better. Happy the manager also noted to the staff to expect us. The BBD is awesome.

Our grandkids loved the pancakes. We had meatloaf which is usually pretty good but the night we were there for some reason it was very salty. Service was good but giving three stars because of the meatloaf.

First time I visit this restaurant. Friendly service, excellent food, open kitchen. We went at 12:15 pm and by 1:10 pm we had already finished. My son ordered the country fried steak and eggs. 3 eggs, two rolls, country potato with fried steak with gravy. I ordered the new pudding pican, praline pancakes with guineo, we didn't even spend $40.00 between the two, I recommend it.

OK. I know Black Bear is a franchise. But this one need to step it up! I got The Breakfast Club and it was PATHETIC! All together it had one strip of bacon, one thinly sliced peace of ham, one slice of tomato on one of the the halves, and the hash browns were half of what they should be. Just sad!!! Bear is in your name! Sent it back and ask to have it taken off the bill. Sorry, Won't be back.

Bears choice birthday breakfast and a side of hashbrowns
    Nikole C.

This was my first time at Black Bear Diner. They sent me an email for a free birthday breakfast, the bears choice, so why not finally try it out? I ordered the bears choice with bacon and French toast and ordered a side of hash-browns. My daughter chose the cubs choice breakfast off the kids menu and my friend ordered the vegetarian omelette. The food was tasty, well seasoned, cooked to our asking and nice and hot when it arrived. Their menu is huge and they offer such a wide variety of items that I knew I'd want to come back and try more in the future. Plus, they service breakfast all day . The seating was comfortable and the tables were nice and clean. Where our visit left me giving 4 instead of 5 stars, was the service. Our waitress was not very friendly and almost seemed bothered by having to serve us. I'm not sure if it was an off day for her but hopefully she has better days. I certainly didn't let it ruin my day and I look forward to trying out Black Bear Diner again soon.

We were in town for a huge convention, and the restaurant was packed on a Monday night. Luckily, we found seats at the bar, and that turned out to be a fantastic choice. Our bartender/server, Chia, was absolutely amazing. She was incredibly busy, but somehow made sure everyone at the bar received phenomenal service. Friendly, attentive, and always on top of everything--she really made the experience special. And the food was fantastic! Everything we had was tasty, but I especially loved the grilled Brussels sprouts. And the brownie lava cake with ice cream was absolutely delicious--the perfect way to finish the meal! I also really enjoyed the ambiance. It has that energetic downtown feel and is a great spot for sporting events, drinks, dinner, or just hanging out. There's also outdoor seating with misters, although with temperatures still over 102F at 7 p.m., most people wisely chose to dine inside where it was much cooler. A little history The Arrogant Butcher opened in 2011 at CityScape in downtown Phoenix, becoming one of restaurateur Sam Fox's early downtown Phoenix concepts under Fox Restaurant Concepts. Its location right in the heart of downtown, next to what was then US Airways Center, made it a natural destination for game nights, conventions, and downtown visitors. All in all, great downtown location, excellent service, delicious food, and a fun atmosphere. It's conveniently located not far from the Sheraton, which made it an easy walk/ride for us. Highly recommend The Arrogant Butcher! And a special shoutout to Chia for taking such great care of us. Cheers!

I was shocked to find out that Missy's has been open since Jan! This is a hidden gem on the south side! Missy's is on the corner of 16th and southern in the smaller street side plaza - the location is a walk up window (I knew immediately I was in for a treat) The lady and gentlemen that greeted me at the window were extremely nice and welcoming and let me know all about the menu. Not sure if they were the owners or not, but I appreciated the friendly service. The menu is robust with a late night weekend special menu (which includes oxtails til 2am) but I had a 1 track mind: CATFISH! The 3 pieces I got were large and automatically came with hush puppies (yum) and a side. The food was done is about 15 minutes but it didn't seem that long - the catfish was piping HOT! I was trying to eat it and cool it off at the same time, I made it all the way home and the food was still hot which I really appreciated. The catfish was crunchy/crispy on the outside and super flaky on the inside- perfect! Both my husband and 13 month old daughter wouldn't keep their hands out my platter! My husband liked Missy's catfish over the food truck that we used to always go to. I already started telling people about Missy's and we will definitely be back!

Outside is just as high class and wonderfully decorated as the inside. We even got a couch booth and got to sit next to each other. We did the summer special which was the best special I've ever seen. $60 per person and you get a generous glass of wine, app, entree, and dessert. We both got the curried corn bisque for the app and my oh my I greatly enjoyed this even on a hotter day. The Smokey popcorn was a nice textural addition and the soup was so flavorful, the curry definitely shined through! We also both got the fried chicken for entrees; how could I not order the gluten free fried chicken!? Yes, naturally gluten free! This was outstanding. I'm not sure what the coating is, but it was so so flavorful and so crispy, and the chicken still so juicy. I could eat that on its own. The pepper jems were a cute touch! The mashed potatoes were so creamy. The chicken was placed on top of them so the bottom of the chicken did get soggy so my one suggestion is to place the chicken to the side, but the coating did rub into the potatoes which added some more flavor. The green beans were also tasty, nothing special, but the pistachio butter elevated it (nothing else needed the pistachio butter, not sure what else you use it for). I had a chocolate cake for dessert, the only gluten free dessert they offered me, but I still appreciate the option. It was just okay. The cake was dense and a little dry and didn't scream rich chocolate. There was a chocolate mousse layered in which helped. My boyfriend had some sort of strawberry cake mousse thing with layers of many different things - he thought it okay, I tried the mousse part and really liked it. We had red wine and it was delicious! The service was great, very attentive and they packed some ice in a cup for me because we weren't going home after!

From the great wood grain basement dark ambience to to the raw, regular bar, and multiple sit-down options, we have tried it all. The allure of trying to find a place down in a basement where you have to find the right elevator was pretty bad ass. The hosts along with the waitresses and bar tenders are always welcoming and knowledgeable about their food and drink. I also think it is cool that you can get lockers to store your expensive liquor for return trips. We often come here for drinks and oysters, because my wife loves oysters and they have a wide range of options that aren't exactly cheap, but don't break the bank for freshness and taste. I only really mark down the rating because the menu has been stale over the years and they used to offer elk that is no longer available. Now call that pretentions or snooty, but I think they could use some unique options to keep the experience moving each time you come in. Also, I feel a restaurant of this caliber should be evolving to match their cool vibe and unique experience. I usually get the Wren house beer but feel the beer optiosn are limiting I also feel like some of their cocktails are overpriced, but they are unique compared to other places, so maybe I am just cheap. So really this rating should be more a 4.5. What really brings you back is the cool art on the wall with a Theodore Roosevelt slant and cool sitting areas like a sofa setting in what looks like it would be his old school library. Don't get me wrong everything I have eaten here has been good, but nothing hearkens back like that elk. This place makes for an amazing tinder date if you are willing to drop that cash and make that impression, come here then hop on over to Valley bar and she will think you are magician of illusive locations if she hasn't already been there.

Casa shares Lobby space with the Luhrs Building, an amazing piece of PHx history. Great bathrooms and vintage lobby. I LOVE the Moxie and the inside of Casa did not disappoint. What a pretty setting. The small outside area reminded me of Queens NY places of memory with alley dining. It was too hot to sit out there today, but next time. I came at an off time so had the whole place to myself. I was also warned this is a pricey place and not your typical Mexican restaurant but more authentic and high end. Agree, No chips and salsa here. I ordered the Julia's Tacos. It was not what I expected. I was concerned at first because the first bite had a slight Chipotle taste and I am not a fan. But I realized the tacos were amazingly delish. Messy but good. lol Okay, the portions are small, high quality, and the place is pricey so not a place to go if you like large dishes of American style Tex Mex. I can see this place would not be for everyone with their smaller more authentic plates but it was great for me. The Menu does have a smaller amount of choices. The drink menu looked amazing. I DID not indulge but guessing lots of drinks get served here. I want to come back and try their Truffle fries. Also, chuckling at some of the other reviews. Who goes to DT and does not expect to pay for parking? You can take the Lightrail for 2 bucks one as a senior. Also, Citiscape is sketchy? The Moxie is a GORGEOUS vintage building and the area is just fine. Glad to hear they have live music, definitely coming back.

Unfortunately, the overall…read moreexperience was disappointing, and the follow-up customer service left an even worse impression. When I called ahead to make arrangements for our group, I was told that parking at CityScape would be validated. Based on that information, we arranged for our group to park there. What was not communicated to us was that the validation only covered one hour. By the time we left, our party had four cars and our guests had to pay an additional $40 in parking. The restaurant's Executive Chef later acknowledged in writing that the one-hour limit was not clearly communicated to us on the phone and apologized, even saying they were changing their reservation team's process so the limit would be stated on every call going forward. However, they refused to reimburse the $40 parking expense. Our parking issue also wasn't the only problem. Two members of our party waited approximately 45 minutes for their meals, food came out in waves, and my husband's burger was extremely salty. We were there for a family celebration and chose not to turn the evening into a confrontation by constantly complaining at the table. We simply tried to enjoy our time together. We appreciated the initial apology and acknowledgment of the issues. However, when we declined the offer of complimentary appetizers on a future visit because we had no intention of returning and don't typically order appetizers anyway, the tone of the final response became noticeably defensive. We were told that our reservation policies were available on OpenTable and that our reservation was made and confirmed there, despite the fact that we made our reservation arrangements over the phone. The only link we received afterward was to add a card to the reservation. For a party of 15 that spent over $400, I don't think asking for reimbursement of the $40 parking expense--especially after the restaurant acknowledged the parking policy was not properly communicated--was unreasonable. Instead of simply accepting responsibility for the communication issue, the final response focused on defending the restaurant, shifting blame, and ultimately stating that they "consider the matter closed." I've attached screenshots of the email exchange so people can see the full conversation and decide for themselves. We won't be returning. This review is simply an honest account of our experience and hopefully helps future guests make informed decisions.

I remember touring the administrative offices, the dining hall, the classrooms, the residence halls, and other random buildings, but the most memorable stop was The Pub, which was rooted in much Thunderbird tradition. Now, years later with a new building in place at ASU, I was delighted to learn that The Pub still exists but in a new space (on the fifth floor). I recently stopped by to see what it looked like and try one of their dishes. In the spirit of Thunderbird, at The Pub, it is said that "global flavors and local charm come together to create an unforgettable dining experience." This is a great place for a meal with co-workers, hosting a gathering for a special celebration, or having a low-key meal. I took a book and gave it a try on my own. I jumped at that and got the Thunderbird Pub Burger (seasoned 6oz all beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, American Cheese, signature pub sauce Brioche Bun, served with Crispy French Fries). It was delicious!! In fact, it was better than delicious when paired with a free root beer float! They have regular hours of noon to 5 PM on weekdays (though they are open until 9 PM on Thursdays.
