They have a nice variety of tasty comfort foods. Their hamburgers are my favorite. The food is great but what I love most is the quality of service that the laveen store always gives. The restaurant is always immaculately clean and the staff is always pleasant. My last waiter Ericka V, customer service was outstanding! She greeted us with a great big smile and maintained that smile from the beginning to the end. We were a large party and was loud and somewhat demanding. Ericka never lost her professionalism, she was patient, attentive, and made each of us feel special. She got all of our complicated orders perfect and entertained us with her witty humor. I'm really surprised at the bad reviews. I'm usually picky with restaurant food, and this was great. Very fresh, quality ingredients and generous portions. Their maple syrup, house made sausages, eggs, cakes. Even the quality of the little portions of jam they include with the bread. Everything tasted amazing. With news that this diner had opened it's doors this week, my friends and I met up for breakfast this morning. I arrived at 10a and was the first of five to arrive, so I checked in with the greeter and was taken to a booth within 10 min. As my party was arriving, we were asked for our drink order and they came out quickly. The menu is printed on a newspaper format and it was pretty neat that the news articles were re-prints from previous decades of our small town. The menu had a wide selection of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The whole menu was available all day and I was told that we could mix our side items btwn breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our waiter, Jordan, was very attentive and kept our coffees filled. I heard that this place was known for their Chicken Fried Steak so that's what I ordered along with 2 eggs and the country potatoes. It came out in a generous portion and although I intended to eat only half, I ended up eating pretty much the whole plate. The biscuit that came with the plate was huge but I didn't care much for it. Maybe if it came with gravy? I tried a bite of my friend's Huevos Rancheros and it was bursting with flavor. All in all, we were impressed by the service & the food. read more

It was only for 2 people the 5 parties in front of us had more than 6 1 even was for 10 and I watched as 2 guys walked in and were seated in a booth with out even waiting. We have been to a couple of Black Bear Diners around town but first time at this location. Didn't feel inspired to write a review of the other locations but this one really impressed me. Liliana was our server and she was amazing: really great service. Now the food: hands down amazing huervos rancheiros (for me) and breakfast burrito (hubby). Everything very tasty and first class presentation. Chef James really takes pride in his work and what comes out of his kitchen. We will be back often now that we found this jewel. read more

I have travelled the US and been to a great majority of the black bear diners. I was so looking forward to them opening this restaurant. I am happy beyond belief. The food is always great, the service is fantastic. I am very picky about my eggs. It seems for the longest, I was the only one that could cook my eggs properly, but, let me tell you, their cook cooked them perfectly every time. The waitress do not make extra money on the sale of any items that the restaurant sells, but they will try to remind you of their excellent pies. Since this is a new location I already knew the wait would be long. Anything new that opens in this area is flooded for the first month. I came around 5pm for dinner and was immediately seated. I had the club and fries and it was very good. I have also had breakfast here and the wait was longer than I would like, however it was expected and the food was still amazing. Complain about wait times all you want, but the customers are the ones taking their time and playing on the phone while sitting at the tables even when they are done. It is the joy of eating out. I just expect to wait and am happy I don't have to cook. I definitely will be back many times. read more

Ate at black bear diner several times. It's nice to have a place out here instead of driving to Kingdom Come to go to Denny's or IHOP. It's refreshing not to have to drive so far. Both times I came the waits were 15 minutes long or maybe longer which is acceptable because it's a brand new store. I'm pretty sure once the hoopla dies down you'll get regulars who come in and will get seated rather fast. Food is good, wait time after ordering is Ridiculously Slow! Restaurant is Half Empty. This is unacceptable. My boys got there Burgers and no French fries. The wait was lengthy which I understand they have no control over especially for a Sunday breakfast. The food was good except that our waitress was super slammed and hardly checked in especially when we were trying to get our check. None of this actually made us upset, we are pretty easy going. What did make us upset was the fact that there was a half of a bug wing in my husbands water. We told the waitress and then she told what I assume to be her manager. The manager came over and asked if everything else was alright, which we said yes to except for the fact that we wondered where the other half of the bug was (hoping my husband didn't drink it). She gave us the worst apology almost like a sorry with a shrug and then gave us the bill, which they charged us full price for everything. First experience here and it was not a good one! I have been here several times and not once have I had a good experience! This time it will be the last. I don't ever ask for a discount when food is messed up. But today they over charged me on my kids drinks and the cashier said that because the waiter didn't serve it in a kids cup that I had to pay full price. For one I didn't ask for the bringer cup that is just how it came. She gave me attitude and apparently thought because she added a have a good night it would make it ok. Well it isn't. Consistently good service, good people and good food. The bad news is the calories are listed on the menu next to each item (lol), but the good news is the portions are enormous, so likely you'll only be able to consume half of it and take the rest home. Giant salads (they have a yummy cheeseburger salad), delicious burgers and omelettes, but they offer a very diverse menu that includes full dinners and also healthy/leaner choices. We always get service with lots of smiles and attentive personalities. The decor is bear-themed and adorable, and there is a free jukebox playing everything you love. They sell bear themed boutique items and a few little stuffed animals and kid stuff, and when you pay you can choose from a selection of delicious pies on your way out. They are extremely tolerant of my friends and me when we linger over a two or three hour lunch, and I typically warn them and I tip the server extra for being cool about it. They took care of an entire bill when the credit card machine went down. We didn't have any cash, It was getting late, on a school night and the kids we full and getting restless. They noticed that right away and comped us our bill so we didn't have to wait. We will be going out of our way to visit this location for that reason alone! I had the worst service I've ever encountered in my life at this location. This is legit the only restaurant in Laveen, your servers need to step it up. The hostess is the least friendliest girl I've ever seen, didn't smile one time. And our server, an older Indian man obviously didn't want to serve me and my two children, one of which is in a car seat. I asked for a high hair instead of a booster and it seemed like such a hassle for him. He was so nice to all of his other tables and very short and rude to me. Today is my actual birthday and he was just so rude about it, unbelievable. Like I said before, you guys need to step it up. Working at black bear diner can't be THAT BAD can it?! All i ordered was chicken tenders and fries (the most common, safe option for a restaurant you've never been before) and just a few short hours later i vomited my guts out. I've thrown up at least 4 times and it's been constant from the other end as well. Saw the advertisements for BB Diner on Baseline. The place was not busy at all at 430 pm xmas eve. A party of 4, took 20 min for 3 of us to get served, 25 min for the 4th...the last order was wrong, after 10 min, cancelled it...my meal was cold, cheap on the gravy but overall good amiunt of food. The issue was tbe quality of the kitchen staffs skills. This visit will be memorable if for nothing else that tbe manager took 50% off the bill. ....he should pay me next time to eat here. Went to Blackbear for breakfast, with only 2 other tables in the building at 7 am. The waitress was quite rude from the start, we ordered drinks she seemed annoyed that all we got was water. We ordered our food shortly after getting our drinks, the food came out fast but it was barley warm, we didn't say anything and continued to eat, the waitress didn't come back to check on us for 15 minutes... in that time we found hair in our food, when she came by finally we mentioned it to her - she offered another one or something different but by that time we had lost our appetite so we declined. No manager ever came by just to talk to us. All they did was take 10% off the bill and the manager was the one who cashed us out and did not say one word about it.
