TERRIBLE SERVICE. The food is so-so & a bit over priced for how not good it is. We waited quite a while for an opportunity to flag down our elusive waitress to refill drinks & drop off fry dip. Once we flagged her down it took another half hr to get our requests & once we finally did, she brought out the wrong sauces & drinks. My husband & I can overlook a mistake here & there, but overall the attitude of our waitress was just terrible. She waited on older people a lot more efficiently & kindly than my 20 something yr old husband & I. I think she did this because she didn't think we could afford to leave a nice enough tip. This place is fantastic. My friend and I stopped in after a long drive, we weren't really hungry just didn't want to go home yet. But we were greeted and sat by supervisor Tiffany who was so cheerful, welcoming, and friendly, that we decided to order dinner a d stay for awhile. As diners go in this chain, this one was good, but not great. Our server was excellent. The choices for meals were great and our choices were generally prepared and served well. The hot turkey sandwich was not up to expectations. The turkey was shredded, not sliced breast meat and the gravy was the thinnest I've seen. The sandwiches were generous and tasted great. The portions were even more generous than the prices suggest. The theme is quite fun and the restaurant is clean with food that is pretty homey snd tasty. This place is awful. The salad we bought looked like someone had taken a handful right off the head of lettuce the pieces we very large and wilted. The baked potato we had with our meal was full of aluminum foil pieces and super dried out. The hash browns were super hard and over cooked. My friend and I needed some time to relax and catch up and decided that breakfast was the way to go. We had eaten here before with a good experience and when we saw that they were open for dine in, decided to try it. Everyone was wearing masks and measures in place for social distancing. We were seated almost immediately and our server, Dani, quickly welcomed us. She brought our coffee to us quickly and offered us water with the option of straws and lemon...I usually have to ask for these do I was very pleased. She made us feel very welcome and gave us just the right amount of time to peruse the menu. Because I am gluten and dairy free, I always have lots of questions. She was very thorough in her explanations and informed the chefs of my needs. She kept the coffee coming while we waited for our breakfasts. I had huevos ranchero and my friend had the Southern Scramble. The portions were huge and amazingly good! We had lots of time to visit and Dani assures is that we were fine to stay as long as we wanted even after I had paid the bill. This was a great experience made even better by a great waitress. This place has been open for a few days now so service is slow but staff is welcoming and friendly. I had their Bigfoot chicken fried steak & eggs which also comes with 2 biscuits or pancakes($12.49), portions are huge. I recommend their Orange Juice it's freshly squeezed, if you don't mind paying $4-something for a Large. We have tried over and over to give this place a chance. NO MORE!!! The service is always terrible. Tonight was the worst. We had a party of 5. Our waitress didn't take our drink orders quickly. We waited for almost 45 min for our food and finally decided to leave. Our waitress took the order of a couple seated after us. Ate breakfast there. My husband had the bear claw french toast and loved it. I had the omelet that had the 3 meats in it. Minus forgetting the sausage, it was, meh, ok. I had to smother it in cholula to eat what i did. The eggs tasted off. Kind of like powdered eggs. Although they just couldve been old. Couldnt finish half of it. I got the Red potatoes and they werent cooked through. Still pretty hard. It did seem like they used very good ingredients. I dont think i will ever go back there. Definitely not for the food. If i do go back it will be because the servers were awesome and i wanna get some of the cute pajamas for my little ones. This is one of the worst experiences we have had in a long time. Which is sad, cause we were so excited for it to come to Ogden because the one in St. George is dope! Went in with my husband and kids. Our service was good. Food was good. I noticed a server working her butt off. I seen younger workers just standing and talking. This server didn't stop what she was doing and is what great service is about.... so I asked for the manager to let him know we noticed how hard she was working and she should be noticed for it. He said thank you and yes she is. He then yells to her "hey that table liked you". She said I didn't even serve them... he laughed and said I know!! What terrible management!!!! Everyone deserves to be recognized and told when they are doing a great job! He didn't even pass her positive feedback!! So I went up to her myself and explained to her how she impressed us. I had driven past this place several times while under construction plus my wife heard from others who had been to other locations that is was yummy comfort food. We decided to give it try. Service: was soso at best, the first thing the waiter did was forgot entirely about my wifes iced tea instead brought her water. No big deal water it is, just make sure and check the ticket so they don't charge us. Food: Not all impressed with. My wife was craving mashed potatoes that actually was the main reason we had picked trying this place. Guess what! no mashed potatoes, they were completely out and no baked potatoes either. Although you could get french fries or hash browns. This tell me right away those items must be packaged ahead of time. The waiter claimed they had big parties that had wiped them out. There is a grocery store across the street go get some potatoes. She ended up getting the pot roast with hash browns.. The pot roast was yummy however the hash browns had a weird chemical taste to them as did the vegetables, she was unable to eat them. About 15 min later my wife suddenly remembered the menu stated there was cornbread included and she had not received it. A couple minutes later the waiter appeared and I inquired as to the missing cornbread. He said oh I bet they are out of the oven now let me got check. Keep in mind he never mentioned the missing corn bread before when bringing our food and that was 15 min ago. He then returns with a cornbread muffin. Wife actually stated that was the best part of the meal along with the pot roast itself. I ordered the Fish and chips, it came with french fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was a disappointment it was only shredded cabbage, I'm not a slaw expert but shouldn't it have a dressing of some sort mixed in with it? This stuff was dry and only consisted of cabbage. My fish and french fries were good although they seemed to be from frozen stock as the fish patties had that familiar triangle shape and the batter was rather bland. In the end the waited didn't charge us for the forgotten iced tea so at least he completely forgot about that. This place needs to improve in a number of categories before I would ever return. As it stands I won't be going back. They have something like 30-40 locations so I can't understand why this one is so bad. read more

Was really looking forward to this place as I have heard a lot about it. But for all the hype is was a pretty big let down. Our server though she was a sweet girl was very forgetful you could probably shrug it off as a bad day for her but my entree came out before my salad. My fiancée's steak was undercooked the trip tip was dry and overcooked still had a decent flavor thanks to the seasoning and the steak sauce I had to use with it to keep it moist. The server also forgot the dipping side for my daughters chicken strips. Now enough about the server. The kitchen was very slow it wasn't a super busy night so you'd expect food to come out within 10 15 minutes max. However the food pushed closer to about 30 minutes before being delivered. The saving grace of the night was the personal sized coconut cream pie it's truly the only reason this place got a second Star. Also the food made both me and my fiancée sick to our stomachs and we spent a good portion of our time at the restaurant on the toilet. So in conclusion: slow service, poor wait staff, high priced for poor quality. Great coconut cream pie. read more

Not your typical well run BBD!! Went last night, Friday night about 8:00 and the place was not real busy but the staff was running all over the place and accomplishing little. The servers were visibly arguing with the cooks while the cooks were saying no we're out of that, we're out of that, we're out of that too. The servers were very friendly but kept apologizing to customers because they seemed to be out of most dishes that a lot of the guest were asking for. We finally got our fish & chip dinner after 45 minutes. First time ever having that experience at a Black Bear Diner and we've been to quite a few in multiple states. Poorly Managed location and we will not be back. Some guests left their tables after waiting for their food to come to then be told that they didn't have it, and could order something else. Servers were not informed about what food was no longer available. Customers came to pick up food after ordering online and were told they couldn't fill their order because they were out of the item, then fought to get a refund which they did. Wow! Just wow!! Cashier needs more training, didn't know how to process a gift card. Manager needs to actually manage and train the staff. read more

Sunday morning 8 am and we had the place to ourselves. Food is 1 notch above what you can make at home and individual portions enough for 2 people easily. Their orange juice is so fresh I could only imagine it was squeezed directly into my cup. Our waitress was obviously ADHD and way too awake for a Sunday morning but she was awesome and on overdrive. This is a highly recommended spot for breakfast, lunch or diner if you enjoy the cafe atmosphere. If you drown the pancakes in enough syrup they're edible. The sausage links were chewy and undercooked. Over easy eggs were over cooked. The bacon was also chewy, fatty and undercooked.
