9/14/25 Tempe errands. We were starving and BBD was the first place to appealed to us. First Visit to an east Valley BBD, last visit 8+ years ago far SW valley. Parking 5/5 Missed another rush, lots of private parking. Atmosphere 5/5 Like all locations, mountain lodge decor with sprinkles of Black Bears scattered about which made me think they should incorporate them into the restaurants name! You're welcome ; ) Service 3/5 Oddly they had plenty of servers hanging around but few customers. Several gathered near to bar stool counter chatting, and the waitress who was working our area was asked to give up our table so another server had something to do. He took our drink order and disappeared for 10 minutes. After delivering our drinks he said I'll be back and disappeared again. Meanwhile the server who was working our area was hustling, clearing tables. She was a go getter! The our guy came back we ordered dinner salads and Big foot Chicken fried steaks. Off he goes returning with our salads then dashed off. No silverware on the table and we waiting several more minutes until we flagged down Miss Hard worker who was kind enough to get us eating. Service here was terrible! Shame on the Manager, we won't be back. He was one of the gaggle gathered up front laughing and carrying on. Food 5/5 We both loved their Bigfoot Chicken fried steaks, salads and scratch mashed potatoes. Our experience was brightened by the "customer focused" server who rescued her coworker. She received the well earned tip! If I were hiring, I'd hire 10 more just like her. Good luck Tempe BBD.

Shame on me for not visiting sooner. I live 5 minutes away and I never thought of going here for breakfast!! They don't advertise in the neighborhood like IHop and Danny's, so it just never came to mind. I was shocked when I showed up and the entire dining room was full!! It was Sunday at 10:00am! I waited 10 minutes to be seated, which was acceptable. The food took a bit long (almost 20 minutes) to come to our table, but my cinnamon French toast was worth the wait. The menu has overwhelmed amount of items, but that's why they are so successful!! No advertising and still packed! 10/10!

I got the BLT with onion rings to go for the first time, it wa pretty good but not super special. I've had the omelettes before and am a big fan of their breakfast, I will probably stick to that in the future!

In my humble opinion, blackbear diner has the best pancakes! There's secret is they use sweet cream to make them. The bacon is also pretty good...LOL

Our server Erick was great and very attentive to us even when the kitchen was backed up from a 20 top table. Our food was hot and delicious when it came out and all the staff were working hard and all were very nice and working as a team Will come back again!

Went for the Friday Fish Fry Tonight. Great fish and sides. Jalen was our server and was great. He anticipated our needs and provided wonderful service. Would definitely recommend.

We are regulars at a few of the local Big Bear Diners and are proud of it, they rarely let us down. This is one of faves and works perfectly during our local shopping near to it. The meals are consistent, the offerings are more than generous, taste delish almost always, and the atmosphere is excellent and the service at each visit has always been fab! At our visits over the past few months and beyond our coffee, orange juice or Arnold Palmer we've tried their renditions of Loaded Grits with real bacon chunks, terrific lasing of butter, and of course a hearty helping of cheese... one of the best renditions in Phoenix of my South's Cookin' loves! Their incredibly fantastic Chicken Fried Steak Omelette (our first time trying it) consisting of tender Chicken fried steak chunks (they have a fab batter by the way). It is chock full of tender fresh spinach, nice strong red onion, what appears to be fresh mushroom, chopped tomatoes, red and green bell pepper as well as jack & cheddar cheeses, and they top all this with their house made country gravy - yummy! Yes they do have other delish meals such as terrific burgers and an array of sandwiches for lunch. For dinner you can find delectable eats like salads and soups and a really, really good Chili, but you'll find many, many more items we've had that are too long to mention. Ensuring we go during their non-rush times to avoid long lines, we enjoy every visit. You should too!

The bread on the sandwich was tough, the bacon bits were chewy, hard knots, and the sandwich was dry overall. The sweet potato fries were greasy and tough and not hot. Our server was friendly and prompt. He was very quick to refill my drink. I will say that both my chair and our table rocked terribly, so was not very comfortable. Our server, Skylar, was great as was everyone else who learned we there to celebrate. Love that they set an envelope at the table announcing the reason for the celebration. We went all out, starting with the grilled artichokes and the wife had a Midnight Margarita. I have to be honest here...not the best grilled artichokes we've had! They were very tough and although gilled with some nice soft pieces, most of them were not edible. The remoulade served with it was "ok" but overall, not a do over for us. Wife loved the drink, said it was perfect and she asked for a sugar rim in place of salt. We both decided on beef so I had the prime rib, which I asked for rare and then thrown on the grill to bring it up to medium. My favorite way to have prime rib and boy oh boy, the chefs did it right! The meat was tender and flavorful and I had asked for both creamed and raw horseradish...I like it hot so mixing the two brought it to the perfect flavor. Wife ordered the NY Strip, cooked to medium and her steak was perfect. So flavorful, tender, and juicy. We also decided on a side of the brussels spouts, which were roasted but way over done in my opinion. Loved the mashed potatoes that came with my prime rib...lots of chunks of potatoes and so creamy. Wife had mac and cheese with hers and she said it was creamy and flavorful and loved it. I had read reviews about the carrot cake so we decided to just eat half of our meals, taking home the leftovers for next day feasting. Ok, this carrot cake is dense, sweet, and had good flavor but the over abundance of frosting made it really, really sweet! We both had a few bites and decided to bring the rest home. The restaurant itself is nicely done, upscale feel but yet not stuffy. The staff was friendly and again, our server was fantastic...thank you Skylar! This is a bit pricey so it will definitely be on our "celebration dinner" places when we want to go somewhere upscale and delicious. Looking forward to another visit down the road!

The restaurant and outdoor entertainment complex is huge and has a really fun, energetic vibe. According to the bartender, they have ping-pong, pickleball, and a big upstairs outdoor patio with amazing views of Tempe and the surrounding area. There's also a large parking lot, lots of outdoor seating, and even a dog park area, which makes it really easy to spend time here. The bartenders and wait staff were very friendly. Azbel was a great server. I had the bistro steak and fries and the Szechuan lettuce wraps, and both were really good. Portions were generous. During late-night happy hour my total was about $55 for a main entrée, an appetizer, a cocktail, and tip, which felt like a great deal. I was pleasantly surprised that happy hour runs every day Monday through Sunday from 3-6 PM and again from 8 PM to close. I also checked out the event venue on site, and it looks like it would be a great place for a company party, corporate event, or group gathering. I'll definitely be returning in the near future.

The Service was "electric" for us as we were celebrating a birthday at the table during lunch. It was too Hot for us to do pickleball, but they do have a fully shaded area that had people playing outside ~105 degrees. As for the food, we had the Fish & Chips with a Mahi Mahi Slaw & Fries, the Ahi Poke Tacos which come in Wonton shells. Hot Honey and Sausage Pizza was great. The Barbacoa Nachos had all the right ingredients & the Double Smash Burger had only some "fancy sauce" on the plate. The Tempura Green Bean, can't remember who ordered, but were good with the chipotle ranch sauce. With me, I'm all about the cocktails, so I treated myself to both the Froze Margarita & the Chi Chi. They call them spiked slushes, I call them "heaven sent" during the Arizona Summer. All of the food was a hit for the table and my family understood why I suggested EP for lunch! I said our Server was "electric" and that's because they made our experience very enjoyable. It was appreciated and I will return again for lunch and pickleball (in the evenings) during the hot summer!

I ordered the smoked wings smothered in BBQ sauce and they were very good. The smokiness added a uniqueness to a meaty wing.
