Our family took us to J Alexander's for our 75th birthday celebrations. We were greeted by the hostess and wished a happy birthday before we were even seated. Our waiter was wonderful and took such very good care of us all evening long. The restaurant was beautiful. We all ordered different meals and each meal was delicious. The crabcakes were outstanding made with large lump crab and a delicious sauce. My grandson enjoyed the ribs and my granddaughter loved her sushi. They brought out two different desserts for us to celebrate our birthdays. I must say the carrot cake was outstanding and so was the Keylime pie. Our birthday celebrations were wonderful. After three prior visits that didn't quite hit the mark, I almost went somewhere else tonight--but decided to give J. Alexander's one more shot, and I'm glad I did. I sat at the bar, and Nelly was my bartender and server--and she set the tone from the start. She was exceptional. Completely on top of everything, effortlessly managing the bar while also guiding others behind the scenes. You could tell she takes real pride in her work. What stood out most was how guests interacted with her--several made a point to say goodbye and thank her on their way out. That doesn't happen by accident. At one point, I even caught her quietly singing along while working--and she has a beautiful voice. It was one of those small, unintentional moments that added to the overall experience and made the atmosphere feel even more genuine. The rest of the team at the bar was great as well, but Nelly clearly leads by example. I even made a point to connect with the manager to share how impressed I was with the service she provided. She truly made the experience. This visit completely changed my perspective. I'll be asking for Nelly every time going forward. read more

A great experience. The atmosphere here was very calming and peaceful with jazz music playing in the background. I was greeted and seated immediately upon entering. The dining area was very clean and almost like a showroom. Gabrielle my waitress was very nice. She explained the menu and suggested some of her favorite appetizers one being the Hong Kong Shrimp. I ordered those and they wee so good. They were still crunchy even with the sauce on them. The sauce was perfectly balanced with sweet and spicy. The shrimp were cooked just right with a firm bite. I love the fresh bed of lettuce underneath them too. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. It was so good and hot in temperature. There was a spicy kick that was perfect since it didn't overpower the rest of the flavors. The bun was toasted and fluffy. I didn't care for the shoestring fries because they were more like the Jay's brand Shoestring chips. They were very crunchy which were more like overcooked. The bread pudding for dessert was tasty. This was our first time here. I was a bit skeptical because it seemed a bit more "high end l than I was in the mood for this night. So to be transparent, I went in a bit uncertain and maybe a little guarded. That all melted away into a great overall experience. *Ambience: The ambience is excellent, it feels upscale yet relaxed and comfortable. It has an unmistakeable modern feel, very clean, open, not too loud but good energy, high ceilings and spacious. It was genuinely comforting that it's new and clean and modern and open feeling, but our booth felt private at the same time, with open sweeping, unobstructed views inside including the bar and kitchen with big windows letting in just enough light and a view of outside. *Service: the service was outstanding. Started with our waiter's assistant who greeted us promptly, introduced herself, and was friendly and attentive - a little awkward, like it's her first restaurant job, but she was well trained and had a great attitude. Our sever was awesome and I forgot his name. He was super genuine and attentive. The manager stopped over to check in and couldn't have been more genuine. Everyone was friendly, attentive and caring, it was great. *Food: We both ordered a mixed drink, she got the 21 Manhattan and I ordered the Doppelgänger. Both were surprisingly large, and were truly excellent, we were shocked with how good and big they were. They brought the remainder of the Manhattan from the shaker and it was almost another full drink. Drinks were a really nice surprise. For food we started by ordering a side of roasted Brussel Sprouts as an app - sides here are almost all ala carte. The Brussels weren't great initially, nice char but very bland. We asked for balsamic vinegar and they happily brought a bottle along with a bottle of olive oil, we added both and they were much better. My wife ordered the trout. I'm not a huge fish guy, but this was incredibly good! Excellent coating, moist, steamy, and flavorful, but not "fishy", fish and came with amazing rice and stellar coleslaw, seriously both sides were 5 stars. Her whole meal was excellent! I ordered the large cut of prime rib which came with amazing g mashed potatoes, it was very big, cooked exactly as ordered and tasted great. It had less marbling than I like, so less steak flavor in the middle, but was very soft and adding creamy horseradish gave it the extra little kick it needed. Pretty delicious. *Value: for 2 incredible bar drinks, an appetizer and 2 large and excellent meals, with tax and tip, we were out the door for around $150. I'm pretty fiscally responsible and even I felt like this meal and experience were definitely worth it. 100%. *Overall: great service, very comfortable upscale but easy and comfortable ambience, excellent food and drinks, at a strong value. We tried to make a reservation for 3 but they only had 8:45p available, when we changed it to two, 8:00pm was available but we were sat at a 4 top, so not sure why we couldn't make the reservation for 3 at 8:00pm. We started with the fried calamari, and it was perfectly crispy with a light, flavorful coating that kept me coming back for more--exactly how calamari should be. Excellent service and food! My wife and I rented the private room at J. Alexander's for our daughter Sweet 16. We got more than we could've asked for when it came to hospitality. They absolutely made us feel like family and were immensely impressed. The GM came in and checked on us as we were decorating a few hours ahead. We had high expectations coming in for dinner, especially with it being highlighted as an upscale casual spot. We made reservations via Resy. We did arrive a bit early, but from the initial interaction with the host(s), the tone and experience fell off. When we were seated, it ended up being a table that had been openly available the entire time we were waiting, as it had a table card with the guest and party size. That made it odd, given our extended wait. Once we got seated, the experience didn't improve. Our server wasn't attentive, and basic things like water, silverware, and guidance on menu choices took longer than expected. When asking about the food, the responses were vague and not very helpful. I did feel like the menu was a bit limited. We ordered the Calamari to start. For my main, I chose the ribs w/broccoli (instead of fries) and the 'not so ordinary mac & cheese) and my friend ordered the crab cake special. Unfortunately, the ribs were underwhelming and lacked a standout flavor. They honestly reminded me of something from a national chain that is good, but doesn't label themself as upscale. The mac & cheese was the highlight and why 2 stars. It was good, rich, but good. The bar side of the restaurant with the TVs is actually very nice, and I could see it being a good spot as a meetup with a friend or even a business associate to grab a drink. As a dinner experience, it fell short of expectations. Even on the way out, I tried to make eye contact to say thank you and felt overlooked. I could go on and on about how wonderful this restaurant is from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. The service is top notch. We were greeted with smiles, eye contact, and great service! Stopped in for lunch to check out the new establishment! We sat at the bar, as we usually do, and was immediately greeted by our very friendly bartender, Amber. We started with the Hong Kong shrimp appetizer and it was DELISH!!! The shrimp was crispy, the saucy was creamy and had a great amount of heat. For lunch we ordered the Carolina Crab Cake and Baby Back Ribs. The crab cake was outstanding! It had giant lumps of crab, it was cooked very well and the mustard sauce was something special. The ribs were also good, they were fall off the bone, tender. My only complaint would be that the silver skin was left on, so I had to take that off for every bite, but the flavor and tenderness made up for it. Both dishes were served with shoe string fries...and when a shoe string french fry is done right, they're hard to stop eating!! The ambiance inside is beautiful, with big windows, open concept from bar to restaurant on either side of the room. They did a great job remodeling and making it look fresh and new!! First time here since they opened in Nov 2025. First impressions are important I think and they gave a good one. The vibe is definitely more upscale but not suit and tie fancy. They have the luxury feel you would expect from a upper scale restaurant without the snobbery or judgmental eye. The Bar had the WBC Game on, the staff all had genuine smiles on their faces with sense you feel this places work culture is on point. Nina was our exceptional service provider, she knew when to assist and when not to interrupt the conversation with a how is everything with a mouthful of food. The service is very friendly- you can sit inside, which is a little fancier, private booths and tables, or outside at tables. Patio is small but was perfect for us. If you need extra attentive service- sit inside, cause it seems like they give servers a table outside, but their actual section is inside. Food: excellent, we had the French dip, millionaire tenderloin sandwich, alex salad, and the grouper. I do think it was odd that the salad does not come with bread and instead of being able to add a side of bread, we had to order an entire $8 appetizer of bread. The bread was delicious though. Yes, yes and yes! Been a J. Alexander fan since 2011 when living in FL, when they had the secret honey butter croissant menu. Was super surprised when we saw they were coming back to AZ and made a 5:30p reservation. Everything was perfection with one small hick up. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. Kelce was over the top nice and our server was funny! We started with the hong kong shrimp. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Not to mention, the portion size was huge. Entrees were: Crab cakes with coleslaw and not your ordinary mac and cheese and steak maui with not your ordinary mac and cheese. Everything was just like we remembered it. Steak super flavorful and tender, jumbo lump crab pieces with the most wonderful sauce, creamy mac and cheese and yummy coleslaw. Dessert: Carrot cake and key lime pie. Wow, and just wow. The carrot cake will literally have you ordering the whole sheet. The crust on the key lime with the tang of the filling, yes please. Drinks: Espresso martini. The espresso martini was creamy and delicious and my disaronno sour was good. The only hick up was my disaronno sour was forgotten until I reminded someone walking by. The manager brought it over, apologized and said it was on the house. Which in fact, it was not on the house and was on the bill. We didn't say anything about it and paid. No biggie. Was just a bit bothered because the attention to that detail was missed and the statement wasn't honored. We felt that we shouldn't have had to remind them. Oh, we didn't like how big the bar was and placement of it. It takes up too much space upon walking in and doesn't allow a comfortable wait when waiting for your table. Hubs ordered the Maui steak and told me to say it was delicious in my review. He paired it with fries and cleaned his plate. I had the salmon burger, I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. Came here on Sunday evening with reservations at 6 pm with my family and the place was pretty nice. Employee's were all very nice. We placed our order in and were surprised that our cocktails seemed to be forgotten. We had to flag our server down after 30 mins to get our drinks. He was nice and immediately got us our drinks. Then we waited for a long period and watched a few tables that came after us, receive their food order before we did. As we patiently waited, the manager came up to us to let us know that she was not happy with one of our food order due to the quality, so she is having them remake the dish. While I appreciated her coming out and offering an appetizer or salad, we were dining with my kiddo. I kindly asked if she can bring out the other dishes that were ready instead of holding up the dishes. Then all of a sudden, all our food was ready, however, the other 2 dishes that was sitting was almost room temperature. Here's a more detail review on each items. Cocktails: pretty good. Had the Peach Martini and the doppelgänger. Entrees: Ribs: this is one of the dishes we ordered that was sitting for a while. It was overcooked and you will see in the picture, kinda blackened. Meat is very dry, I would not recommend ordering this. Fish Special Mahi Mahi with Jalapeño sauce. The fish was cooked good, but the sauce is a bit much where it takes away the flavor of the fish. Palermo Chicken: this was the dish that the manager was not happy about. It was actually really good. I do recommend ordering this. I may come back to try the steak since that is what the restaurant is known for according to our server, but we had just had steak the evening before and wanted to try other things. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and gave us great recommendations on drinks. I got the Pear Martini and it was delicious! Even though James has a busy table he made the effort to check in with us every chance he had. The manager even came by to check in on us to see if we were good. The ambiance is cool. The wife and I came during their Grand Opening! We arrived 20 minutes earlier than our 5pm reservation time. Two young ladies opened each of the two entrance doors for us and welcomed us in. The hostess greeted us immediately after entering the restaurant. She took our names and had another young lady seat us right away. We were given two menus: Main with Starters and Entrees and beverages on the back. The smaller menu had Today's Specials. Everything on the menus looked good! Our server suggested to start with Hong Kong Shrimp as our starter; so we took her suggestion. My wife chose the Prime Rib med/rare for her entree and I opted for the Maui Rib-eye med/rare. They both came with smashed potatoes. My wife also ordered a Doppleganger, which is a bourbon based cocktail with DiSaronno Amaretto. We both noticed other tables who ordered their meat entrees with fries. In fact there were several tables who ordered fries. They must know something and frequent other J. Alexander's restaurants. I'll have to order fries for my side next time. Must be damn good fries. Our Hong Kong Shrimp arrived on a bed of finely shredded cabbage. The shrimp were covered in a slightly spicy mayo type sauce similar to what you'd get with Bang Bang shrimp. They were delicious! Both our entrees looked picture perfect when they arrived. The Prime Rib was exactly how I pictured a prime rib to be. That is how I like a prime rib to look like when delivered in front of me! My Rib-eye looked just as good and mouthwatering covered with their Maui (teriyaki-like) sauce. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. We were frequently checked on by more than two servers. Their operation was like a well oiled machine. Their training certainly paid off. Not one glitch or misstep. We had a nice conversation with one of the female managers. Our server was excellent--very attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the meal. We originally planned to order the prime rib, but we were told that only the end cuts were available and that they were closer to medium. Since we prefer our steaks medium rare, we decided to order the New York strip instead. Unfortunately, both steaks came out very burnt on the outside. The char was so strong that it overpowered the flavor of the steak, which was disappointing considering the reputation of the restaurant and the price of the meal. We had pretty high expectations for J. Alexander's here in Chandler, AZ, but unfortunately, our experience fell short. Upon entry, the atmosphere gave off a somewhat immature vibe ... maybe because it was a late Thursday night -- but still, we expected something classier. The lighting was quite dark and while the restaurant appeared clean, it wasn't as spotless as one would hope from a new establishment. The hostess seemed less than enthusiastic about being there, which didn't set the best tone for the evening. After being seated, it took about 12 minutes before our server approached the table. When she did arrive, she seemed friendly but rushed, quickly pushing for our drink orders. We each ordered something different to get a feel for the menu, but it turned out to be surprisingly limited. For a restaurant with such high reviews and upscale pricing, the lack of variety was disappointing. The appetizers were just okay, nothing to rave about, and certainly not worth the price. Our entrées arrived only slightly warm, not hot, and honestly tasted pre-prepared. Nothing felt truly fresh except maybe the fried items. Even the fries, which resembled Freddy's cheeseburger fries, showed up lukewarm--and that's being generous. Between the four of us, our bill came out to just over $158. None of us finished our plates; we ate what we could mostly because it had been a long day without food. As for the atmosphere, the lighting was uncomfortably dim -- we actually needed our phone flashlights just to read the menus. The music was another downside: loud and unpleasant, making conversation difficult. Overall, we don't quite understand the hype around this place. For our family, including three twenty-something sons, the experience was underwhelming. Unless J. Alexander's updates its menu, serves food that's hot and truly fresh, and improves both its lighting and music choices, we won't be returning. read more

Have been wanting to try this new restaurant that opened last November. Finally got time and went out for husband's birthday dinner with my stepdaughter. The ambience was cool and had a great vibe! The bar was really cool looking and very busy. We started off with a bottle of wine and Captain and Coke. Those things were all very nice. Husband and daughter ended up having deviled eggs with candied bacon on top. They loved them! We all then got into the extensive menu. My stepdaughter had a Tuscan New York strip, which had a lot of rosemary on it. She loved it! My husband had a half of rotisserie chicken and said it was very moist & delicious. But for me, I had one of the BEST steaks I have had and I can't tell you in how long! It was called the Maui ribeye! It was marinated for three days in a sauce of pineapple, soy sauce, ginger, and I'm not sure what else, but the flavor of the steak was amazing.!!! Alexi's was our server and he was great! Super friendly, very efficient and very knowledgeable about the menu. They knew it was my husband's birthday and so they had a card for him signed by everyone and then brought a dessert on the house. Came in for the grand opening, and I have to say it was a pretty low-key, almost nonchalant launch. The hostesses greeted us as soon as we walked in, even though we didn't have a reservation. While we waited for our table, the bartenders were very attentive and offered us drink menus right away. We skipped appetizers and went straight to entrées. I ordered the barbecue baby back ribs, super tender, soft, and easily fell off the bone without even needing a knife. The skinny fries were nice and crunchy. I met a friend for dinner at the J Alexander in Chandler last evening, my first time there. The staff was welcoming, very friendly, and knowledgeable. They had my favorite wine, a Daou Cabernet. The food was beautifully prepared and so good. I highly recommend the Avocado Bomb, which is Hand-cut ahi tuna, crab salad, and crispy wontons. Nice atmosphere, while it was busy at the restaurant, the noise level was very low, and we could actually enjoy a conversation. read more
