The space is relatively big and there's open room to have a large party over. However there is no wifi, so you'd have to hot spot yourself. But overall is a great calm study area. My friend decided to show me this cute cafe in the Japantown area and the inside aesthetics were very light, bright and modern. Sweet Potato Latte - The latte had a mild sweet potato flavor and was made with real sweet potato which I enjoyed but wished the flavor was more punchy. It was a good level of sweetness and I liked the cinnamon that was mixed on top that gave it more warmth. Mixed together it tasted great but at times, the espresso taste overwhelmed all the other mild notes. I've been here twice in five years and both visits were a calming respite in a busy city. The coffee is excellent, with specialty lattes in flavors not often found in the US, like sweet potato and black sesame. There are tasteful housewares for sale, but not in a distracting way. We have long enjoyed this cafe for many years and it's delightful to come upon it again today while the cherry blossom festival is taking place. Unlike the rest of Japantown during this time, the tastefully designed cafe offered a quiet retreat from the crowds. We got a coffee jelly latte, a black sesame latte, and some black sesame shortbread cookies. Drinks had just the right level of light sweetness, the black sesame shortbread cookies had a good balance of sweetness with just a hint of saltiness. The combination was on point and delightful - the perfect afternoon coffee set. As of April 2022, the cafe is still maintaining precautions; while I miss hanging out in their chill, tastefully designed indoor space, I appreciate these precautions. Masks are required, max 4 customers in the store, no indoor seating or restroom use. There was only one person ahead of me in line who ordered two drinks, but it took 20 minutes for me to place my order and receive my latte. I could tell the matcha was old because it was oxidized and dark green, not bright green or grassy. The cafe chairs outside were occupied, so I asked if I could sit on the empty bench inside the cafe. The barista dithered and said no. So happy to see thus neighborhood cafe coming back to life after what seems to have been forever. The hours are now 11a-5p but sounds like they will try to gradually expand back to regular hours (used to be till 10pm on some days). I love this cafe and used to come every week to read, work, or just relax with a latte and some tasty snacks. Their latte's amazing and taste home made and strong. My favorite is the nutella latte which marries well the sweet nuttiness of nutella with the dark warmth of espresso. The owner is very kind and artistic and the decoration feels cozy and whimsical, a blend of Japanes Scandinavian styles. The snacks are varied and all high quality. Desserts taste delicious and made with love. I love the coconut cream cake and the flourless chocolate cake, rich but not overwelming, great for an afternoon pick-me-up. The span rice sandwich has been my craving during Covid to the point I would make it at home. There is also a good variety of sandwiches with balanced ingredients and made in the tiny kitchen. It's a bit sad that their spacious interior is not open yet but there are three outdoor tables to sit and sip with friends on a sunny day. I can't wait to be able to sit inside again. YakiniQ Café! Sounds like a place to mingle with full figured Victorian women looking to Mazurka! YakiniQ Café is located on Post Street directly across of the Hotel Kabuki. As I was about to enter YakiniQ BBQ... I realized it wasn't the tea café! So just be aware there's a BBQ restaurant with the same name, lol. I later found out that both are run by the same owners. So I enter the correct door on my second try... YakiniQ Café! It's very inviting and bustling with flesh. I was kindly greeted by the youngsters. I also noticed that the majority of patrons were college students, not from the 1890's like I expected, but young and fresh student types! So I quickly peruse the menu and the Yuzu Lemon Iced Tea is calling my name! I add the organic Banana Bread just cause. Sounds healthy. I then try to find a seat in the large "study" area filled with communal tables and café tables. Yet with all the eclectic seating options it was annoyingly hard to find a seat! I then noticed a rocking chair...yes, a rocking chair... just waiting for me in the corner! :3 I slowly settle into my rocking chair and start sipping my Yuzu Lemon Iced Tea...oh my so thirst quenching! The organic Banana Bread was just ok. The star of the show was the Yuzu drink and the Vaudeville act rocking in his chair.... time flies, Son! In the end, I recommend YakiniQ Café to anyone into cafes! Yet you might be disappointed with the limited menu and how crowded it can get! It's a popular spot for today's generation. I wandered to Japantown, with time to kill before my massage at Pearl Spa (part 2 of my day of solo fun), and happened upon a menu that looked interesting (perfect!) - sweet potato latte, sesame latte, caramel milk tea to name a few of the options. Why yes, I thought - why not? You have nothing else to do, and nobody else to see! I ordered the sweet potato latte with soy milk (they also have oat milk, but not the brand I like - they carry Califa Farms here). I asked the barista (owner?) if they use actual sweet potato, and they do! The drink was delicious! Naturally sweet, cinnamon-y, and you can taste and feel the sweet potato puree which complements the taste of the espresso and milk very nicely. A bit more than I was expecting to pay for a latte (with tip it was around $8.50), but I really feel for coffee shops and small local businesses and try to support them whenever possible. This library-like cafe is owned by the same family that owns the bustling Korean BBQ upstairs where I remember eating a whole lotta meat that I was grilling myself on a hubcap. This is the spiritual opposite of that place where young Asians epoxy themselves at tables to stare intensely at their laptop screens. There was no conversation, no music, just the not-so-hushed tones of fingers clicking on keyboards. There were desserts in the display case, but I was interested in getting something warm to drink. My wife and I tried this place for the first time yesterday. We had just finished eating at a local ramen shop named Yamadaya, and we really wanted to top up a great meal with a delicious beverage. We certainly lucked out with YakiniQ Cafe! My wife got the Ginger Latte, which she described as "having the perfect burn you want to get from ginger!" Myself, I ordered the Cortado with Oatmilk. I can not describe it any other way than "the way coffee should always taste." Even my wife, notorious for not liking coffee, said that if she liked coffee, she would pick this drink as her choice. I can honestly give the black sesame cookies the highest honor an Asian person can bestow to a baked good - "Not too sweet." Coming and looking inside this lovely café makes me feel like this was now my second home to settle down and read a newspaper. Even though there are several houseflies flying in its vicinity, no fly would ever bother me while sitting in any table. On the left wall was the cabinet filled with tin cans of Harney & Sons. My aim to purchase in YakiniQ was to try none other than the tea flower. What makes this tea flower interesting is its lengthy steeping. How long will it steep to picture perfection? Depends. The water in the clear glass mug was very hot, making the tea flower ball expand as quick as possible. Viola! After the tea flower sank to the bottom of the glass cup to complete its transformation, its tea color got darker, more bitter, and lukewarm. Still tasted good; what mattered most was the tea flower transformation. If I was patient long enough, the tea flower would look more beautiful. I'm sure there are other cafés out there that are good for tea flower steeping. YakiniQ was the first. Customer service turned out good and pleasant with nice working women. Next time I come here, I be willing to have the same cup and see what happens if I go for seconds. read more

I ordered the Sweet Potato Latte ($6) with soy milk ($1) and was pleasantly impressed by how much I enjoyed it. The sweet potato flavor was smooth and not pulpy, and the drink itself had the perfect amount of sweetness with a hint of cinnamon. The space looks really pleasant and quaint, and I'd love to sit here and read while sipping on one of their specialty lattes when they open up for indoor dining again. A homey place that reminds me of a cross between someone's kitchen table dining area and a school library. It's quaint, with eclectic bits of decor. Dimly lit, the interior consists of mismatched chairs, a jumbled assortment of art, some antique-looking decor, hanging paper lantern lamps. There's some very soft music playing, but otherwise, the cafe is fairly quiet, with the drone of fans and whatever else in the background (I personally wish they'd turn the music up, just a bit!). The interior is fairly spacious, so you won't be jostling elbows with the customer at the table next to you. While I saw many reviews about outlets, I didn't see too many tables that were outlet-accessible. There were some along the wall I was sitting at (the right wall, when you walk in), but I didn't see any outlets for the other wall or for the center tables, which seemed slightly unfortunate. Wifi is a bit slow, but not terrible. The hazelnut latte (4.25) I had was pretty decent. The slice of "tiki crunch" cake (6?) was special (it consisted of coconut flakes, macadamia nuts, apricot, pineapple, and white chocolate), but not wow-ing. YakiniQ certainly has its charm. Very sweet little coffee shop/cafe. Saturday morning and there was only one person working - althought there were only 2 people ahead of us, one of them was ordering 4 coffee drinks. So there was a bit of a wait...but it was fine. Everyone was chill and it's a lovely environment. I couldn't decide between the sweet potato latte and the lavender latte. Since I'd never had sweet potato, I decided to go with that. Hubby ordered a cappuccino. It is a little pricey. If you want espresso shots in your sweet potato latte, they cost .95 cents each. So for one, that's affordable. But for 2-3, it's not. Think about it - 2-3 shots is what you really need to get that caffeine in you. Anyway, it tasted pretty darn good...but it was pretty darn filling. I think I'd definitely do with lavender next time, if I'm going to order a frou frou coffee drink. Hubby got his cappuccino and a chocolate croissant. Conversely, their macarons are priced right. If you buy the 6 macaron deal, they come out to about exactly the same as Chantal Guillon pricing, which I find about as affordable a macaron as is out there. Waaaaay better pricing than Bottega Louie (I know - that's LA - but those who are interested in macarons will be interested in this piece of info). Got two Earl Grey, two Pumpkin, and two Kona Coffee and the teen girl said they were amazing (and she's the Bottega Louie fan). The lovely woman working all alone was super friendly. Location / Huge cafe!! Lots of tables and chairs to study. Good amount of outlets. Theres also couches where you can also catch up with a friend in a lovely cafe. It's beautifully decorated. Food & Drinks / So they serve sandwiches, desserts, baked goods, and coffee/tea drinks. I really like that they also serve Japanese fusion drinks like the Strawberry Yuzu Tea drink (that's what I got) and the matcha pound cake. The drink was so refreshing! I had it iced and you would get sips of the strawberry pulp and citrus taste. It washed down the delicious matcha pound cake very well!! The matcha pound cake definitely tasted like a typical pound cake but you would also taste the earthiness of the matcha. It wasn't too overly powerful. I find it to be a great balance of subtle sweetness. Service / Great service. Cashier was so helpful to recommend drinks and food for me. I felt welcomed here! One of my favorite cafe/study spots. Lots of space and it opens pretty late! I am definitely coming back here again!! read more
