Black Canyon Storage has excellent customer service! One of the representatives, Julie, has really gone above and beyond to make sure everything I need is taken care of. She explains the processes of what I need, where I completely understand pricing and the alternatives that I can choose from with shipping. With a son in the military this has helped a lot! So anyway, I am a retired federal agent who specialized in back country drug interdiction for 30 years and as such, I moved around a lot. And so, I have had lots of experiences with storage businesses. And when I retired in Phoenix I tried to find the best place where to put my "stuff" (which includes outdoor storage for an RV) since I have a small apartment. And after a great deal of researching, I have found the perfect place for my needs and I want to tell you why just in case it works for you, but I do live in north Phoenix. I didn't like anything about the places I found in Phoenix and a lot of that had to do with the price of units in the city. 1. The cost is on the bottom of what you can expect to pay for a comparable unit in Phoenix. 2. Black Canyon City is usually just a short and pleasant drive from North Phoenix. 3. There of course is a real small-town vibe in Black Canyon City and I was in a place in Phoenix at first that I thought had great security including video cameras everywhere and they still cut the catalytic converter off my RV. 3. The facility itself is clean and well secured with fences and security cameras and controlled access. 4. But the best part of this business is the manager Julie (this is my second time since I moved and then moved back) because she is just so professional and customer friendly, in addition to being helpful and accommodating. I had a great experience with the storage facility. I needed a large space quickly. They have units available. They are very reasonably priced. They do not require an annual or any type of contract. They offer insurance don't but don't make you take it. When I was headed over to see the unit the team stayed back to make sure that I got in as they were almost closing. They waited 30 extra minutes for me! You can get in and out through the gate from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. anytime. They were flexible with move out date and prorated part of the month. They called and followed up. It felt like family. We will be back when we need another storage unit. read more

I was able to complete everything over the phone and by text to move in. The unit door was open and it was desert dirty when moving in. There were screws, small tools, etc all over the unit and in front of the unit. The unit was drywall inside. It had dents and dings, and is not completed. They claim it is a 9×11, but we measured it and it's actually 8×10. We paid 90 a month. The move out process has not been as easy. I called on 12/21 to advise we would be moved out by 12/24 and not to bill me again. They advised I would need to send a photo of the empty unit with the door up, showing the unit number, and swept out. I emailed the pictures on 12/24 and requested a confirmation they were received and that I would not be billed again. I received a response on 12/26 thanking me for the pictures, and they would send me a confirmation once they did a physical inspection. I'm not sure why the pictures were necessary if they do an inspection. I sent a follow up today to make sure I won't be billed again, and am waiting for a response. If I don't hear anything by Friday morning, I will cancel my credit card. Yes, it's $15 cheaper than Uhaul storage, but it's not worth the hassle.

This would be a one star review if the owner didn't call me back a 2nd time…read more Booked a small job (5 items) and, of course, they have a minimum: 3hrs + truck rental = $309. Was suggested to me by the rep I first contacted that they could take unwanted items to Goodwill (or charity of my choice) with the "extra time" that wouldn't be used on such a small job. When I booked the job (with the owner!) he reiterated that option also. I also told them that I would have a big job coming up in the near future - thinking they'd be on their best behavior. The truck driver/mover showed up and immediately said he had time constraints (more jobs) and it was up to his discretion if he took any items to Goodwill. When he got some "push back" he said he called the office and got no answer. So: two lies. There were no other jobs that day for him. Also: he *did* call the office and got into an argument with the owners wife. I asked for the owner to call me to discuss. My interaction with Kevin was not what I expected. At one point I even said "do you care at all about what I'm saying or just waiting for me to finish so you can get off the phone?!?" No apology, no interest in what I was saying... The owner called me back after some time - seems he got the opportunity to speak to his wife and to talk one-on-one with the mover. His attitude had changed quite a bit. The fact that he didn't initially believe me and blew me off is really frustrating. What is ultimately most important is that he's not going to replace this employee with someone who cares (and is honest). I'm sure no one is surprised that the next job is going to another business. Also: I'm out of state. The other people involved are all local. They will be using word of mouth to let everyone they know about their experience with "Help U Move".
