The wings were so salty we could not eat them Pretzel was overcooked ambience is nice and the beer is great

The wings were super salty, and the pretzel was overdone Good beer though If you're coming for beer, great but don't come for the food

This is a pretty cool place ! Must come and check it out! The owner put on the 49er game for me so I could drink my beer and watch the game!

Flavorful and well paired 3rd course Adams Mushroom "Jagersnitzel" Lemony Beurre Blanc Warm German Potato Salad ----really enjoyed his take on the potato salad traditional for some regions in Germany- the lemony schnitzle was tender and well met with the sauce! 4th course Prime Rib Sauerbraten Roasted Farmed Squash with Herbed Braised Red Cabbage - the meat was fall apart tender the mushrooms were perfectly cooked- only issue is my preference for red cabbage to be sweet but this was a unique new take 5th course Black Fleets Apple Strudel --- only complaint is getting only half a slice lol delicious but dough was a bit "wet" still would order again! Beer Service- Each course of the meal was accompanied by a beer pairing (4oz pour per course). I'm a pirate lover so I totally enjoyed the decor! Big space, they offered a kids menu. Good beer list, a couple ciders & a nice size menu offering gluten free & vegetarian options. The ciders, tart, not overly sweet but lacking in distinct flavor. The beers my husband tried - IPA good, & the Smokey Red was definitely Smokey & had a hint of brown beer in it. We also enjoyed the nachos very much! Needs more salsa & cilantro cream sauce for sure. (Just ask) they were friendly & it's a place I'd love to try out again!!

Not 1 beer disappointed. Out of the 4 beers between me and my husband, all were worth coming back for. Brewery hopping is our "hobby", and taste wise this brewery hit it right on the head. Super cool flavors you can't find anywhere else. And let's not forget their crazy beer combinations: Beer floats, Cidermosa (which I personally tried, and fell in love with) and many more. Food was your typical bar food. Good pairing for a beer, but nothing special: Average burger and fries. Fish and chips was yummy, but obviously in Washington you can get a good fish and chips a lot of places.

A very casual and more personable setting, with an atmosphere that's open and laid back, promotes a very inclusive and warm friendly environment. To eat I got the special: Brew Corn and my Dad and I split a four piece fish and chips. The Brew Corn is to die for, literally. The sweetness of the corn with the sour creme with a hint of pepper flakes, topped with the soaking of the beer is just yum, just like what it says in the picture! The fries in the fish and chips were hot, crispy, and hand cut. The fish was not only fresh but breaded to perfection. Simply what more could you ask for? Absolutely fantastic, life as a pirate cannot get any better than this. Join the Black Fleet, hoist up the Black flag and embark on a journey of the senses!

Went on a Saturday night and ordered the fish sandwich and it wasn't bad but they gave me only a small portion of fries. I had the Dunkel and didn't like it at all, no flavor whatsoever. Like water and brown food coloring..Told the waitress I didn't like the beer at all and could I taste the Vengance IPA..she came back with just a tiny sip of it and it was good from what I could tell..She never came back to see of i liked it or not so i just left. I dont like that they want you to tip up front before your even served....probably won't come back...

Was driving by after leaving The Old Spaghetti Factory after dinner with a friend. We decided to take some back roads out and randomly passed Black Fleet Brewing Taproom and Kitchen. I was caught off guard. I've never seen this here before in all my years of driving through. My friend and I decided to do a random drop in to check it out and I'm so glad we did. We saddled up to the bar and each ordered a flight. I was disappointed to see that they had food, because it looked delicious and we were already full from dinner. I can say the guy next to me ordered fish and chips and was super happy. He said the fish was and crust was good with no mush. I was jealous. As far as the beer, I found most of the options to be very smooth. I was especially surprised by their coffee stout. I love coffee and I love stouts, but somehow never managed to find a coffee-flavored stout I enjoyed. Theirs is smooth, well balanced, and has a delightfully delicate finish. The sitting area isn't huge, but decent sized and the have a wall separating the area closest to the door so parents can bring their kids. The building kept with the downtown Tacoma industrial-type feel that you may see at 7 Seas down the road, but on a smaller scale and minus the hipsters. This place was a brewery with the feel of a dive bar, but with brighter lighting. Our bartender was awesome. When we told him we were surprised to see their brewery when driving by and then the new E9 less than a block away, he took the time to tell us all about their opening. Of note, they have an awesome Mug Membership program. I'm holding out for one of their awesome t-shirts and hats, but am seriously considering joining. We also received an update 2019 Washington State Brewery map. As mine old one is about 7 years old, I was happy to have an updated map with all the new breweries so I could continue on my brewery-hopping adventures. Long story, but we plan to go back. Very relaxed and casual atmosphere with good people. It doesn't appear to have gotten popular yet, so there's space to breathe and enjoy yourself. For now at least. I'm looking forward to tasting some of the food options. Also, I really want one of their rad t-shirts and hats!

Their menu (pub food) is fine as long as your expectations are realistic. Lots of beers to choose from, with cool names and a sampler of five flights for the undecided. The reason for my low rating is simply that they've ignored the small details. There is no excuse for a sit-down food establishment to serve ketchup out of plastic pouches. It's gross, it's wasteful, it's amateurish, it's lazy. Gimme a break, even my old high school cafeteria had more class than that. And the "special sauce" one choose for ones fries? I ordered the "spicy salsa" and got a paper thimble full of dry pico de gallo. C'mon guys, you gotta be better than this.

Had hopes for this place based off of photos and other posts online. I was excited to try their chicken sandwich. The menu states, "a crispy breaded chicken breast on brioche bun." It was actually was actually two small chicken tenders on a bun. For more money, I bought a chicken tenders sandwich, otherwise I would have purchased the 4 chicken tender meal for $1 less. The flavor was okay, but basically was eating bread on bread with how breaded the tenders were. Beer is good, but this was a unfortunate discovery.

Love all the beverages nice and cold. Very refreshing and service was excellent. Our group had burgers and the fish and chips and everything was very tasty!

Black Fleet is awesome, so far one of the best I have been too. The beer is good had the Fire Ship Smoked Red, Head West Oatmeal Pale Ale and wife had the Crimson Sails Red Rye IPA. The reds were good but Head West was delicious. We ordered the Southwest Chicken Rolls and they were okay not rating down because they are still soft opening and asking how they can improve so giving the benefit of the doubt. Kids are welcome and they have plenty of tables. Only two TVs and cannot see from every seat so if it's game time be cautious. Only issue is parking but that's not there problem. Expect to street park and walk. Don't drive away find parking and enjoy this great spot in Tacoma. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Cheers!

I liked this new spot in Tacoma! They have a huge beer list, I had a smoked red which wasn't too smoky and had a good flavor, lots of other beers as well. They have a small food menu, perfect for snacks. We shared the nachos and the chicken strips between three people. It was pretty tasty! I liked the interior of the brewery as well, they kept to the pirate/ship theme well, not too overdone either. I will definitely be back again!

Ask the Community - Black Fleet Brewing Taproom & Kitchen

    Small Dog friendly?

I have seen small dogs in the Black Fleet taproom before, but you should probably contact the business directly for a definitive answer.

    Are they family friendly?

Yes, kids are allowed-- if that's what you are asking.

Would this be a good place to grab some drinks, meet up with a friend, bring a board game and hang out for awhile or do they need to turn tables?

    Yes Completely. Highly recommend.

Their beers are just so, so good and so different compared to when I first had them when I moved here. So if I break out of the rotation it's almost always to come here. My latest beers here was the Choco Bliss which is a Imperial Stout loaded up with chocolate flavor. It's barrel aged and a real boozy one. This was one I haven't had previously so it was a real treat to get one of those! Another really good beer that I haven't had before until my last visit was the Brown's Point CDA which is a dark ale. This had nice bitter and malty flavors to it. You can also get some fantastic pizzas here and we have gotten many over the course of our visits here. Our last item we had to eat here wasn't a pizza but a stuffed Hungarian pepper with rice. It's considered an appetizer but for us...at least for the current situation it was like having a light lunch. The food here is great and even if you don't want a beer then definitely try out their pizzas!

Finally got a chance to try it at noon today, and it was a great experience! Environment: The overall vibe is very American. There were TVs on the walls constantly playing various ball games, like today's playoff game between the Thunder and the Lakers. It was pretty busy on the weekend, especially the outdoor seating area, which was almost full. The building is an old structure dating back to the 1900s. Though it shows its age, it's very clean both inside and out--you can tell the owner really cares. Service: Our waitress was very, very friendly and professional. She gave us great recommendations, always served with a smile, checked in on us during the meal, and refilled our water. Very satisfied! Taste: Pizza: There's a funny little story: supposedly, Marco Polo went to China and saw pies, but didn't know how to wrap the filling inside, so he just put it on top--and thus the pizza was born. Personally, I think this is a myth, or many people have started fantasizing about Marco Polo because they think he was too great. But according to various unearthed historical records in China, Marco Polo never actually went to China. In fact, around 2010, more than 20 scholars organized an event called "Retracing Marco Polo's Route." After completing the journey and comparing it to what Marco Polo himself recorded, most of them concluded that he probably never made it to China. Sorry, I have a strong urge to share--went off on a long tangent about Marco Polo. But the pizza was really delicious. It should be truly fire‑baked, not oven‑baked. The sauce was well‑balanced, and the toppings were generous and fresh. My wife and I ate more than half of it! Salad: The dressing and cheese were very generously applied, and the greens were fresh. Chicken wings: They had a pleasant sweet‑savory taste, just right. Unlike most American restaurants where they're too salty or too sweet, these were perfectly balanced. All the dipping sauces were good. Overall, highly recommended!

This is actual brewery so they sell their beer can packs to go, as well as some Merch (apparels etc). Newest second location (Narrows Tasting Room) recently opened on Proctor district as well. If I were to get crazy picky, tasting of 1.0oz beer is still going to cost you a dollar. There's no "taking a sip" to see if you wanna commit to ordering a full pint, so just keep that in mind. My favorite here is Narrows Lager and Summer Lager is great too, and if you're an IPA drinker, Tempest IPA is a good option. They also do not prep food here so they got a Chex Mix + Pub Mix snack for $4.00 for about a small bowl, and some charcuterie boards. You can order some food downstairs/next door from Boathouse19 and or bring a small snack bag to nibble on. Parking is ample but can get filled very quickly, especially during Summer time when lots of wedding and other events are happening at the Narrows Marina warehouse, and I also see some food trucks parked by exclusively for those events from time to time. Lastly, they have non-alcoholic beers too! It's not their own, but I've seen them pour "Bero" canned non-alcoholic beer, so you do not need to be a beer drinker to enjoy the space here, but this place is 21+ only, which is another reason I love it here. Oh and last but not least, they have several rooms for event rentals, so I've seen many retirement, birthday parties and other events hosted in those rooms. Pretty cool! The room next to the bar area can be a bit noisy because of the exhaust fan running that is connected to the brewery room. All in all, a great brewery tucked in on the Narrows Marina that's worth a visit if you're in the area, and you might find me here too, just hanging out on a Summer evening : )
