The Washington Beer Blog states that Redd Dog is moving in later in 2026 and will be running a brewery at this location. It's a turnkey scenario. Redd Dog is already present in Tacoma as a U Pour taphouse on 6th Avenue hosting guest taps from other breweries but with them making the move here it is going to be a brewery. I'm a pirate lover so I totally enjoyed the decor! Big space, they offered a kids menu. Good beer list, a couple ciders & a nice size menu offering gluten free & vegetarian options. The ciders, tart, not overly sweet but lacking in distinct flavor. The beers my husband tried - IPA good, & the Smokey Red was definitely Smokey & had a hint of brown beer in it. Not 1 beer disappointed. Out of the 4 beers between me and my husband, all were worth coming back for. Brewery hopping is our "hobby", and taste wise this brewery hit it right on the head. Super cool flavors you can't find anywhere else. And let's not forget their crazy beer combinations: Beer floats, Cidermosa (which I personally tried, and fell in love with) and many more. Food was your typical bar food. Good pairing for a beer, but nothing special: Average burger and fries. My fiancé and I came here to hold an event for our friends and family; a gender reveal party. Black Fleet offers affordable large gathering reservations and can cater a menu to your taste. Laura runs their catering and events segment and she was a pleasure to work with; very responsive and on top of our inquiries. In fact, all staff were super approachable, helpful and kind. We had about 60 people (adults and kids) and reserved the front section. We brought our own decorations (no helium balloons or confetti... which wasn't a problem) for set up prior to our gathering. Seating was a bit snug, but we made do. Our group was rather loud since it's been quite sometime since our friends had a chance to see each other. And the staff took care of cleaning up a lot of our decor... so we're super thankful for the kindness. We brought our own desserts but the kitchen does have capabilities of providing cupcakes. Parking can be a little difficult. You're guests should be pretty comfortable with parallel parking and should maybe carpool. I would totally recommend Black Fleet if you're looking to have a gathering. Just wouldn't recommend a party as large as ours. Went on a Saturday night and ordered the fish sandwich and it wasn't bad but they gave me only a small portion of fries. I had the Dunkel and didn't like it at all, no flavor whatsoever. Like water and brown food coloring..Told the waitress I didn't like the beer at all and could I taste the Vengance IPA..she came back with just a tiny sip of it and it was good from what I could tell..She never came back to see of i liked it or not so i just left. Was driving by after leaving The Old Spaghetti Factory after dinner with a friend. We decided to take some back roads out and randomly passed Black Fleet Brewing Taproom and Kitchen. I was caught off guard. I've never seen this here before in all my years of driving through. My friend and I decided to do a random drop in to check it out and I'm so glad we did. We saddled up to the bar and each ordered a flight. I was disappointed to see that they had food, because it looked delicious and we were already full from dinner. I can say the guy next to me ordered fish and chips and was super happy. He said the fish was and crust was good with no mush. I was jealous. As far as the beer, I found most of the options to be very smooth. I was especially surprised by their coffee stout. I love coffee and I love stouts, but somehow never managed to find a coffee-flavored stout I enjoyed. Theirs is smooth, well balanced, and has a delightfully delicate finish. The sitting area isn't huge, but decent sized and the have a wall separating the area closest to the door so parents can bring their kids. The building kept with the downtown Tacoma industrial-type feel that you may see at 7 Seas down the road, but on a smaller scale and minus the hipsters. This place was a brewery with the feel of a dive bar, but with brighter lighting. Our bartender was awesome. When we told him we were surprised to see their brewery when driving by and then the new E9 less than a block away, he took the time to tell us all about their opening. Of note, they have an awesome Mug Membership program. I'm holding out for one of their awesome t-shirts and hats, but am seriously considering joining. We also received an update 2019 Washington State Brewery map. As mine old one is about 7 years old, I was happy to have an updated map with all the new breweries so I could continue on my brewery-hopping adventures. Long story, but we plan to go back. Very relaxed and casual atmosphere with good people. It doesn't appear to have gotten popular yet, so there's space to breathe and enjoy yourself. For now at least. Their menu (pub food) is fine as long as your expectations are realistic. Lots of beers to choose from, with cool names and a sampler of five flights for the undecided. The reason for my low rating is simply that they've ignored the small details. There is no excuse for a sit-down food establishment to serve ketchup out of plastic pouches. Had hopes for this place based off of photos and other posts online. I was excited to try their chicken sandwich. The menu states, "a crispy breaded chicken breast on brioche bun." It was actually was actually two small chicken tenders on a bun. For more money, I bought a chicken tenders sandwich, otherwise I would have purchased the 4 chicken tender meal for $1 less. We ordered the Southwest Chicken Rolls and they were okay not rating down because they are still soft opening and asking how they can improve so giving the benefit of the doubt. Kids are welcome and they have plenty of tables. Only two TVs and cannot see from every seat so if it's game time be cautious. Only issue is parking but that's not there problem. I liked this new spot in Tacoma! They have a huge beer list, I had a smoked red which wasn't too smoky and had a good flavor, lots of other beers as well. They have a small food menu, perfect for snacks. We shared the nachos and the chicken strips between three people. It was pretty tasty! I had not heard of black fleet until I saw them advertising their soft opening on instagram. I was able to find some time last weekend to make a trip. I was not disappointed. We grabbed 5 sample sized beers and a couple snacks. The beer was pretty spot on across the board. I was a big fan of the 2 ipas I had. The smoked red, was a touch to smokey for me, but my wife enjoyed it. The Porter and stout were both good, I wanted to try the float, but thought I had enough beer at that time. We also grabbed the chili cheese fries and the chips and salsa. I think the chili on the fries was one of the best things eaten that day, but I was also a big fan of the house made chips. I would really enjoy that chili on those chips!! Just a thought. I really want to try the deep fried cauliflower at some point, the pictures I saw it looked amazing. Overall the atmosphere was great. The bar staff was extremely friendly. The decor was cool. And the beer and food were delicious. If I had one complaint it would be the price of the food might be a touch too high for the amount you get. Not so high I would never come back, but probably a touch higher than i would expect. Decides to do a pickup order on a whim to support a local business near us. Ordered some wings, sliders meal, and a fish sandwich meal. Each meal came with an option for free sauces that even includes what I would call "higher tier" sauces such as secret aardvark, which was pretty impressive. WOW! I have some buddies that are real beer snobs, and this is their favorite new bar. The beers they serve are top notch. My new favorite beer is now the SMASH 1. The Owners here treat you like a friend as soon as you walk in the door. They have a small kitchen that is still growing and the food comes out quick and is great beer drinking food. They have a unique style with a fun story. Lots of cool swag. Premium membership can join the founders or mug club. This gives you exclusive access and great prices on their beers and crowlers. Every person I bring here finds their new favorite beer Ambiance-they have a cool pirate type thing. Didn't over do it with maritime stuff but started its own unique look that is nowhere else in Tacoma Food-regular sized portions but house made everything. Customer service- 5 stars! Didn't love the beers we tried but they weren't bad either. The food was the same. The place was totally empty on a Saturday night at 8pm save for one employee drinking at the bar. This is a newer place so I definitely want to see them succeed but will probably stick to the E9 taproom or 7Seas (which are both down the street) as my go-to breweries. They have a decent amount of space so it would be a great place to meet a bunch of friends. Not sure if they have any events here but it would be a perfect trivia spot. Went in today for lunch and decided on the BBQ sandwich. It was $17 after tax and on top of that there machine was programmed to 30% tip so when I didn't notice and pressed sign I ended up paying $21 for it. Some time goes by and I get what looks like school lunch. And tasted just about the same as it too. i was so disappointed. The buns tasted cheap, the meat was not even warm and that's all it was. They have some good food, to go along with a tasty variety of beer. I would watch this brewery. It is up-and-coming. I do recommend a look-see. Their beer is developing very nicely. All ratings are only my opinion and specific to the particular visit. Ratings are on a scale of: 0-5 stars. Free Booter's Dunkel Weissbier: ABV 4.5- IBU 11 Style: Dunkel The aroma is a bit Cola. It has a slight haze. Banana flavor comes out in the beginning taste followed by clove, spice, caramel and toffee. Very aromatic. All of these flavors blend well for a pleasant drink. There is a short clean finish. *** stars Silent Harbor Stout: ABV 4.8% - IBU 30 Style: Stout Nice malt, coffee aroma. The taste has a nutty roast coffee high tone. There is a long nut first, roast coffee earthy end. *** 1/2 stars. Head West Oatmeal Pale Ale (OPA): ABV 6.4% - IBU 61.5 Style: Oatmeal Pale Ale Nice hop forward orange aroma. Stopped in with the wife finally after she said she wanted to go somewhere new. I've been meaning to get down to this section of town and check out some of the new digs popping up. This was the perfect excuse to make it happen. Black Fleet tends to be a bit "off the beaten path" if you ask me. There's a row of these breweries popping up, but this one is a block off the main row and kind of tucked in what you'd think to be a housing district. Yes, 1 block feels this distant here. Parking is crazy, all you really have is some very limited street parking. There was a lot in front of another business, but the many many signs warning of being towed steered me away from there. We lucked out and found a spot on the street about a block away. I've lived in the Tacoma area for roughly 3 decades and I still feel a little nervous walking some of these streets in the dark. Your mileage may vary. The place looks very new on the outside and has that "warehouse" look to it, which you would expect from a brewery. It's a bit misleading on the surface because driving by you wouldn't expect a restaurant to be inside here. It's not super fancy inside, or trendy in any way. It's to the point and a bit matter of fact in the decor with a small touch of design elements here and there that bring everything together, topped with a couple slightly over the top pieces like the crow's nest above the order station at the bar. There's no hostess, it's pretty much just 'seat yourself". A bit tough to figure out for a newcomer when you are immediately focused on finding a seat, but this is a counter order / table service joint. So to place your order you need to go up to the counter, look for the sign that says "Order Here", then go have a seat. I was looking to get a feel for this place and the offerings so I ordered a lot of "stuff", much of it focused on menu offerings that use their house-brewed crafts. one of the main reasons I chose this place over the other joints in the "row" was because they offer Beer-Cheese Pretzels, my wife's fav. Let's start there! I thought they were very good and the beer-cheese was quite tasty. It had a very strong "beer" flavor, which to me was on point. If you offer beer-cheese made from your beer, I want to taste that beer! This did exactly that. My wife felt the beer flavor was a bit too strong, but I disagree here. she also had a very big complaint that the pretzels were unsalted. Hard to argue with her on that, where's the salt man? We also started off with the Keelhauled Cauliflower, a beer-battered cauliflower, deep fried and served with dipping sauce. I really liked these, and again the beer-batter had a solid "beer" flavor to it. We're doing good here so far! I got some "Tacoma Rolls" for our actual meal, an order of the Chicken and an order of the Brat-Oberfest rolls, which we both shared. The brat rolls seemed like they really needed more "brat" in them. Really all we could taste was the cheeses and the actual brat was lost in there somewhere. the chicken rolls were much better balanced and we really enjoyed those. Yes, I'm aware they offer tacos, but I was doing my level best to not order tacos this time. Ya'll know how I am about tacos. We capped it off with an order of the Mini Donuts, cinnamon-sugar of course. Let me start by saying I had no idea this would be such a large order of donuts! I expected maybe 3 or 4 mini donuts. Not the case! This was more like 10 to 12 donuts and the donut holes! To top off the fact that the size of this order was quite impressive, they were very good! Clearly fresh made, very tasty, very light and airy. Our only complaint here was the lack of a dipping sauce. These would have been amazing with a chocolate or maybe even salted-caramel dipping sauce. If it was me, I'd scale back the number of donuts in an order and use that space to offer a dipping sauce with these and they would be totally bonkers. So let's talk service. I found every member of the staff here to be very friendly and helpful. They were very prompt with the orders and took very good care of us. They were exactly the type of staff I like to see. This place was a let down. The beer here is pretty good, but the food is TERRIBLE! I came with some family to hang out. We had a few beers, all of them were tasty minus the "peach keen" cider that tasted like Flintstone vitamins (to be fair, it was made by a different place). After we all had a beer, we ordered food and another round. We got nachos, brat-oberfest rolls and chili cheese fries. The fries were the only thing we came anywhere close to finishing. The "housemade" tortilla chips in the nachos tasted really strongly of stale deep fryer oil. It was so overpowering that you couldn't even eat them if you got your buzz on. The brat-oberfest rolls had a similar problem, plus the filling was pretty much cream cheese with a bit of what seemed like ground meat. The chili cheese fries were edible, not horrible, but not great either. I know this place is new and might have some growing pains going on. I hope they eventually get some better food or just stick to beer. Lots of potential, good beer, but it was the worst food I've had in Tacoma. Freebooter was tasty. Child enjoyed the Float Fleet and chicken tenders. Hubby enjoyed the Ginger Ale. Hubby & I split a basket of bones and a 2 piece fish and chips. Everything tasted great.
