Such a fun place. It was fairly empty inside when we came last Sunday but the young lady at the register was very friendly and helpful. I've never been to a pour your own. They give you a little bracelet and you tap the one you want to try. It's heavily beer focused but they have some cider, wine and hard kombucha? The best really, is that I got to try a few before committing. The place has a couple of TVs, a lounge area, an outdoor patio and nice chilled vibe. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area and want to try some beer in a laid back atmosphere.

    Great patio space!

A new self-serve bar in the downtown Tacoma bar scene! I found out about The Living Taproom on Instagram and made it in here on opening day - they were hoppin' for it being their first night. Good for them! The Living Taproom is owned by a young couple, and it shows - this place is SO modern, so aesthetic, and what Instagram dreams are made of. You walk in and you're greeted by a greenery wall with a neon sign, and then you turn the corner and it's just as beautiful! There's ample seating. Regular table seating, as well as a "living room" concept space with couches. There's also a really cool table set up with old school playground swings as the seats (which I can see being interesting if someone serves themselves a little too much.....) We wanted to sit there but a group of girls had it on lock pretty much the entire time we were there, understandably. Another wow factor here is the patio space. It's small, but it's mighty. Glorious views of the downtown area and the Harmon building. There's a fire table with some small couch space - definitely would get here early just to snag this spot. This is going to be a great hangout during the warmer months! Unlike other self-serve bars, The Living Taproom gives you a little bracelet to wear and that's how you scan how much you're pouring - most other spots give you a card which can be harder to keep track of. If you lose the bracelet though, there is a fee! We were impressed at the selection - lots of delicious beers, ciders, and wines. I only saw one or two NA options, but they're there. Looking forward to visiting again when it's a little less busy - and hopefully snagging the fire table outside or some of the swing seats :)

This is really cool! When you arrive you check in at the counter and get your bracelet. Then you serve your own drinks! This means you can sample as many as you like and you don't have to commit to a drink you're unsure of. The indecisive person's dream come true! The staff were friendly and were kind in answering questions. You can sit on chairs around a coffee table or there is a table that has swings for chairs. Fun but can be hard to sit on for a long time. Next time I'm in Tacoma I want to come back here!

Enjoying one of the self serve taps!

Tacoma gets another self serve taproom (the other one is Red Dog on 6th) and what's even better is that it is super close to my house which makes the drive very convenient. My first self serve taproom was in Wyoming of all places and at the time I found the concept confusing but I learned the ropes on the set up pretty fast. There are lots of local beers that you can enjoy here along with a few national beers as well. But there are other drinking options that you can serve yourself as well like cider, kombucha, wine, cold coffee and root beer. I tried a little bit of everything and really enjoyed the root beer that was on tap made by Diamond Knot Brewing. There was some very good cider that I believe came from the Wenatchee area that was very refreshing as well. The cold coffee was strong but nice and smooth. How it works is you open a tab and are given a bracelet that is associated with your tab so it's known how much to charge at the end. You then pass the bracelet over the tap handle area by a glass of your own choosing. You pick pint glasses or tulip glasses and I believe a size smaller than that you can use. Then when you go for another drink you put the glass you used in a tray to be cleaned and grab a fresh new one. If you are like how I am and want to try a little bit of everything it can make the final tab a bigger one than anticipated. So that is something to be aware of. The self serve taprooms can have a bill that is higher than a couple of rounds at some breweries so it is important to be mindful of that. I didn't mind however a more expensive tab as going to these self serve taprooms are fairly infrequent for us and I look upon them as more of a novelty experience. The taproom itself is nice. Sleek and clean and it wasn't too terribly crowded but I have a feeling that this taproom hasn't entirely been discovered yet in town as they just recently opened. I do like the seating arrangement at one table where the chairs are swings. I would like to sit there some time on a return visit. There is also a small patio to enjoy as well but since it is still in a time of blustery cold weather it didn't seem like it was quite what we wanted for seating during that colder day we went here.

Nice concept. Pay for what you pour. Uses the iPour system. You check in with your ID and credit card, they give you a wrist band that you scan at each tap. Each tap displays the pour along with its attributes and cost per ounce. It is a little pricey, and the software will tell you that you've reached your limit at around 2 full glasses. Be sure that the tap is in it's upright position before you scan with your wristband to avoid overcharges and wasted product. Space fills up quickly...we got there a little after six pm and few tables were left. Many people were left standing. Ambiance was chill. DJ was cool. Wish they had more ciders on tap...but hey, Incline Cider is right down the way. They have snacks but no food. At check out it has the option to leave a tip, but you aren't really receiving any service. It was a cool little spot, would definitely return.

I read about this new place, so we decided to stop in last night. The guy that works there is super nice and explained everything. It's a fine place, but just pretty average in my opinion. It's a self-pour, so you can have samples of everything (beer, cider, kombucha, wine, coffee, or root beer) or whatever size you choose. It was pretty crowded when we got there, so there wasn't any seating. I feel like it was just kind of plain and although fine, could use more seating and have more of an ambience.

If you're looking for a cool and inviting place to grab a beer, wine, or cider, then head over to the Living tapRoom at Tacoma's brewery blocks. This cozy, self-serve, "U-pour it" pub, is dog friendly. I like to hang out on the comfortable couch and sample the different craft beers on tap. In addition, there are ciders, wine, cold brew coffee, and rootbeer on tap. Cheers!

This place doesn't serve food however there's a multitude of restaurants within its radius. I'd advise you or your party eat prior to arrival. It's a fairly new establishment that has limited seating but a very chill natural vibe. I'm not a fan of the Washington beer scene but they have some above average selections. I throughly enjoyed the pizza pals IPA. If you're a draft type of time, then this is your place. I highly recommend! Only negative is the prices! Good thing there a limit on how much you drink. That's probably why it's so expensive hahahaha. Send my regards!

    Drinks, swings and dogs!
    Stacy A.

I cannot say enough about this place! We were in the area and decided to stop in and check it out. They have swings! And dogs! And there's no waiting for drinks when you pour your own. Definitely found a new happy place.

Service was horrible and unprofessional. The gal at the register was rude and I preferred not ordering due to her demeanor.

Their beers are just so, so good and so different compared to when I first had them when I moved here. So if I break out of the rotation it's almost always to come here. My latest beers here was the Choco Bliss which is a Imperial Stout loaded up with chocolate flavor. It's barrel aged and a real boozy one. This was one I haven't had previously so it was a real treat to get one of those! Another really good beer that I haven't had before until my last visit was the Brown's Point CDA which is a dark ale. This had nice bitter and malty flavors to it. You can also get some fantastic pizzas here and we have gotten many over the course of our visits here. Our last item we had to eat here wasn't a pizza but a stuffed Hungarian pepper with rice. It's considered an appetizer but for us...at least for the current situation it was like having a light lunch. The food here is great and even if you don't want a beer then definitely try out their pizzas!

I went to this restaurant in Tacoma over the weekend. I had actually passed by many times…read morebefore--the eye-catching signage and overall atmosphere always drew me in. Finally got a chance to try it at noon today, and it was a great experience! Environment: The overall vibe is very American. There were TVs on the walls constantly playing various ball games, like today's playoff game between the Thunder and the Lakers. It was pretty busy on the weekend, especially the outdoor seating area, which was almost full. The building is an old structure dating back to the 1900s. Though it shows its age, it's very clean both inside and out--you can tell the owner really cares. Service: Our waitress was very, very friendly and professional. She gave us great recommendations, always served with a smile, checked in on us during the meal, and refilled our water. Very satisfied! Taste: Pizza: There's a funny little story: supposedly, Marco Polo went to China and saw pies, but didn't know how to wrap the filling inside, so he just put it on top--and thus the pizza was born. Personally, I think this is a myth, or many people have started fantasizing about Marco Polo because they think he was too great. But according to various unearthed historical records in China, Marco Polo never actually went to China. In fact, around 2010, more than 20 scholars organized an event called "Retracing Marco Polo's Route." After completing the journey and comparing it to what Marco Polo himself recorded, most of them concluded that he probably never made it to China. Sorry, I have a strong urge to share--went off on a long tangent about Marco Polo. But the pizza was really delicious. It should be truly fire‑baked, not oven‑baked. The sauce was well‑balanced, and the toppings were generous and fresh. My wife and I ate more than half of it! Salad: The dressing and cheese were very generously applied, and the greens were fresh. Chicken wings: They had a pleasant sweet‑savory taste, just right. Unlike most American restaurants where they're too salty or too sweet, these were perfectly balanced. All the dipping sauces were good. Overall, highly recommended!

This is actual brewery so they sell their beer can packs to go, as well as some Merch (apparels etc). Newest second location (Narrows Tasting Room) recently opened on Proctor district as well. If I were to get crazy picky, tasting of 1.0oz beer is still going to cost you a dollar. There's no "taking a sip" to see if you wanna commit to ordering a full pint, so just keep that in mind. My favorite here is Narrows Lager and Summer Lager is great too, and if you're an IPA drinker, Tempest IPA is a good option. They also do not prep food here so they got a Chex Mix + Pub Mix snack for $4.00 for about a small bowl, and some charcuterie boards. You can order some food downstairs/next door from Boathouse19 and or bring a small snack bag to nibble on. Parking is ample but can get filled very quickly, especially during Summer time when lots of wedding and other events are happening at the Narrows Marina warehouse, and I also see some food trucks parked by exclusively for those events from time to time. Lastly, they have non-alcoholic beers too! It's not their own, but I've seen them pour "Bero" canned non-alcoholic beer, so you do not need to be a beer drinker to enjoy the space here, but this place is 21+ only, which is another reason I love it here. Oh and last but not least, they have several rooms for event rentals, so I've seen many retirement, birthday parties and other events hosted in those rooms. Pretty cool! The room next to the bar area can be a bit noisy because of the exhaust fan running that is connected to the brewery room. All in all, a great brewery tucked in on the Narrows Marina that's worth a visit if you're in the area, and you might find me here too, just hanging out on a Summer evening : )
