Overall I really enjoyed my visit. First off, I genuinely love the owner, Haley. I'm a big fan of how unapologetically herself she is and how she brings that energy and expression into her business. Like it or not, she makes her stances known, and I respect the hell out of that. It gives the place real personality. My girlfriend surprised me by bringing me here for my birthday after I'd been wanting to try it for a long time, which made the visit extra special. I will say -- and Haley, I know you read your reviews -- the girl who rang us up was a little snippy, which was a bit disappointing, especially on my birthday. Everything was rung up correctly, but the interaction itself wasn't the warmest. Food-wise though? So good!! I ordered the Fig Papa, which wasn't my first choice, but I was told they couldn't cook the eggs the way I wanted on the dish I originally wanted (which felt a little strange). That steered me toward this as a second choice, and honestly, I'm glad it did -- it was delicious, and I really loved it. I do still wish I could've tried my original pick the way I wanted it, but it is what it is. My girlfriend got the weekly rotating menu item -- a Mediterranean biscuit -- and she really enjoyed it. I didn't try it, but it was a huge portion. And let me just say: the biscuits here are unreal. Biscuits are usually a forgettable side for me -- dry, boring, whatever -- but not these. These are hands down the best biscuits I've ever had in my life, and I've been craving them ever since we left. They also had a seasonal pumpkin horchata, which I absolutely loved. It tasted like pumpkin pie in drink form -- creamy, cozy, and exactly what I wanted. For dessert, I got the cranberry bliss cheesecake, and my girlfriend got the Thin Mint cheesecake. Both were fantastic. Cheesecake can be heavy, so the fact that I basically had multiple dessert off this one piece of cake made me so happy. Since they took down my previous post. Let me try and say what I experienced in a different way. The place was dirty. Like really gross. And the booth that we were going to sit in had stains of a questionable nature on the seat. Not only that when I commented on it, I was called a liar and put down. I'm not trying to start anything with them, but the stain appeared to be human in nature. As for the food, The biscuits were wonderful but the gravy was disgusting. Maybe we got the wrong thing, but a place that promotes biscuits and gravy shouldn't have orange gravy that tastes bad. The wait was worth it! When we got there at 9:10 am we were already 15-20 people in. This is a casual place with a lot of personality. You order your food at the counter and then you find a seat. There is plenty of seating outside. The day we went, it was actually warmer outside than inside. We got the Southern tac which is a fried green tomato, balsamic onion jam, runny egg; the fig poppa with goat cheese and sausage and fig jam. On the side, we got an order of thick cut bacon (3 slices and they were perfectly crunchy and meaty).'we ordered a hash brown and biscuit w blueberry earl grey to go. I was impressed by the sturdiness of the to-go sauce containers. The prices were very reasonable for the quality. Some things to note--these aren't complaints: the drip coffee is weak (free refills), minors are not allowed for dine in (which is great if you want adult only dining), and the music is loud metal. Got here a little late, they open at 9am but we got there at 11am about 30 mins wait in line. We tried coming at 1pm the day before and left because they were sold out of everything but cheesecake. Today cheesecake was sold out It's very divey. Assortment of music and lots of things to look at while you wait for your food. I don't normally order horchata but their horchata Cold brew was a winner. Not too sweet w/ coffee after taste. I got biscuits n gravy w/ 1/2 sausage and 1/2 mushroom gravy. If you are looking for a old school simple sos gravy, this would not be for you. SP took it up a notch and the sauce has a subtle kick. I really liked the jalapeños. It's been a minute since I've been to side piece probably over a year... the thing I respect most about this business is how much they value their community. I came in on a weekday because I was in the area and rarely does that happen anymore. The person working the register was super chill and laid back and helped me decide between 2 cheesecake. I've tried a few things here and ordered the "That's How it Comes" (apologies if that is not the exact name). It's a basic breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and maybe I'm a basic B, but that has been my favorite thing I've ordered here. First time at side piece and we went in on a Saturday morning around 11:20 AM. There was a line out the door so we didn't know how long it would take; however, the line moved pretty rapidly since you order at the counter, you pay and then you choose your seat. There's actually a decent amount of seating so I wouldn't worry about that. We decided to order the hot hitter w/ a cheddar biscuit, biscuits (buttermilk biscuit) and gravy with half sausage and half mushroom, a latke hash brown that comes with sour cream and jam, an iced Horchata, and one ice Horchata cold brew. We waited about 10 minutes before our food came out and we were absolutely amazed. Everything looked and tasted absolutely delicious. The hash brown was evenly fried and it tasted so good with sour cream and jam, the biscuits and gravy were so luscious. The sausage and mushroom combo was perfection as the biscuit soaked up all of the gravy. The hot hitter came with a huge portion of eggs. I wasn't too big of a fan of the tomato jam, but I did love the bacon and cheese and the cheddar biscuit. What grabs your eye as you drive past is the "dank af biscuits". They couldn't be more accurate in describing the quality of their biscuits. I enjoyed the Hanna Montana with a mimosa. Reminded me of a monte cristo made with biscuits for the bread. Flaky and delicious without being too dense. The brown sugar cheesecake was amazing with very rich flavor and not too sweet. The cheesecake sells out fast and the store will close once they run out for the day. The staff was very friendly and the seating is a little crowded, so not great for large parties. After driving by this place for months on end, I finally stopped in to check it out. This place is a seriously great little hidden gem in Tacoma. It's a bit divey looking inside, but I'm down with that vibe and totally understand what they are going for. It's a cool spot to grab some great food. And the food, holy cow, it is so good. I ordered a cold brew, mimosa, avacado toast to go, the baca and cheddar scramble dining in. Three people joined me and they tried the biscuit and gravy and the loud pack. Every single dish was DELICIOUS. When I hear someone say hidden gem, this is what they mean. It's small, tucked in a corner, and barely presents as a restaurant. I live around the corner and pass by everyday and I had no idea this was a breakfast/brunch spot. The cashiers were really nice and they have someone cleaning constantly. It's been a while since I reviewed Side Piece Kitchen and I wanted to share that they have consistently have been superb each visit. I got really excited for the last week of August's specials as they were nostalgia blasts featuring dirt cup cheesecakes and teriyaki dippers which were my favorite thing to get in my school lunches. I had to practically beg my boyfriend to go and eventually just told him that they had a cosmic brownie cheesecake and he started telling me to get ready to go. We had an event to go to at 11am and arrived around 9:30-40amish and there was a line out the door but the staff here are always on point in ensuring there isn't too long of wait that we were efficient on time and able to dine in (we were ready to eat on the way up). The food was absolutely delicious, never had a bad experience here. I absolutely loved the presentation of the lunch meal and the teriyaki dippers were fantastic. My friend tried the Baca and said it was fantastic too! I also love that they have a fun T-shirt design contest and look forward to seeing the top three best designs. It's incredible how these guys are always able to come up with amazing specials, friendly service, and offer just great vibes with each visit. I feel like we visit them at least once a month, and honestly if I could I would try to come every week. We appreciate that they have a dog friendly patio. I've had the biscuits on their own but the weekly specials and sandwiches are too hard to pass up-they always sound and taste incredible. In the past, I've tried their weekly special of the rosemary chicken and it's packed with insane flavor. The rosemary fried chicken was fried perfectly and it worked really well with the pickled onion, arugula, goat cheese, and lemon dressing. Just an explosion of beautiful flavors in one bite. The loud pack (on their set menu) is also very delicious, with prosciutto, goat cheese, aoli, and arugula. The service was quick considering how busy this place gets. There was a line out the door when I arrived and it got longer as I waited to order. One of our favorite breakfast spots. The sizzurup and Hannah Montana are my favorite sandwiches. I always want to try them with the cheddar bae biscuit but they are always sold out by the time I get there. It's that good, you gotta get there early! Have had almost everything else on their regular menu and every item was thoughtful and fabulous. Also love the collabs and rotating items. I especially appreciate that they enforce the no holding tables before you order policy that is plastered around the restaurant. I love when a restaurant has clear expectations and stays true to their word, allowing for a quick turnover so people that have their food can eat at a table and get out of the way for others. The only complaint is there was a lot of biscuit for the contents of the sandwich and sometimes it was a little bit too dry while eating it. The Latke hash brown was amazing! It was perfectly crisp on the outside. The mimosa and Bloody Mary were nothing special, but still good! There was a line right at 9am on Sunday when they opened but it moved quickly. Tables were filled fairly fast. There are some rules you have to follow like all parties being in line and ordering your food at the counter before you can get a seat so be prepared for that. It is small inside and it looked like most people were ordering to go, but most customers were kind and did not linger in order to make space for new customers coming in, who wanted to dine in. read more

I couldn't eat all of it but made sure to take what was left home. Then I got a banana pudding cheesecake slice for my husband, it was the only one left since they were sold out of the others and I wasn't smart enough to order when we got there. This place is small so if you're planning on staying you'll want to get here early. I got here 10 min before they opened on a weekday and there were already people waiting in their cars. Thankfully I was in early enough that finding a seat wasn't a problem. This place is pretty simple with no frills, just great food and service! I loved the funky décor! Lots of old school cooking book covers with the occasional Playboy cutout that's been slightly obscured. A little surprising, but it's 21+ in here and I'm down for that - fun little Easter eggs! Since it was breakfast time I got a mimosa - which was poured strong! Strong enough I was told that if I wanted more OJ to let them know. Biscuits and mushroom gravy were a winning combo! I would happily eat this over and over again. I'm really big on texture when it comes to food so I didn't know if I wanted to save the left overs, but decided to try anyway. So many of my friends have been posting about Side Piece - it's eminently quaint and instagrammable - so I had to give it a try. I was initially going to take my parents when they were in town, but then I looked at some of the names on their menu and the cheesecake wall of.....let's say "cheesecake" (no slight against their food - it's flanked by pictures of topless women) and decided my partner and I would appreciate it more. Millennial businesses just hit different. Side Piece greets you with the promise that its food is "dank af," which absolutely sets the mood for what's in store. The kitschy 70s interior and muted color palette takes you back in time, and cheesy pictures of the staff adorn the wall. It feels like a business run by a little family of dorks! For some reason I was expecting disinterested, abrasive service, but we were eagerly greeted by a friendly cashier and enjoyed a warm service experience. My partner commented that she loves when diners like this have a table with their hot sauces out because it feels like she's home (a homeyness which means you also bus your own table). We ordered the Loud Pack (advertised as their favorite) and the Eggs Bis-enedict (eggs benny on a biscuit). But I was most excited about the fact that they serve beer for only $2.53. So of course we threw in two of those. The Loud Pack was astonishingly photogenic and the first bite was so good I had to lean against my partner to emphasize my glee. It's piled high on their signature homemade biscuit and it maintained its structural integrity throughout. Delicious. The Eggs Bis-enedict was creamy, rich, and massive. My partner made it through half before throwing in the towel. We had some concerns about the cleanliness - sticky cups and tables definitely gave that greasy-spoon diner feel - but if you're mindful about what you touch, Side Piece is definitely one of the best breakfasts in Tacoma. read more

Over the weekend, I had one of the most enjoyable breakfasts I've had in a long time at Sidepiece Kitchen. My wife and I pulled up early as there is always a line and they run out quickly. Let me just say, this was worth the wait! I had the Sizzurp biscuit sandwich and it hit exactly how it needed to. That sausage was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the biscuit held it all together like it knew it was the main character. My wife ordered the Hannah Montana, and I don't know what kind of sorcery they pulled, but that dijonaise and jam combo just made sense. It was sweet, savory, a little wild, and it worked. The biggest hit for me was the cheesecake I got...The Almond, Poppyseed Cherry was LITTY 2 T!TTY! I want that again and again! That's the only dessert I want. The vibe was cool, staff was incredibly friendly, and everything tasted intentional. You can tell Haley and Dante care about what they're putting out. It's one of those spots that leaves you full, happy, and already thinking about what you're getting next time. If you haven't been yet, you're sleeping. Sidepiece is definitely worth the visit.
