amongst that lobotomized vision of utopia that is orange county, exists an oasis of entertainment, that place is black hole records. black hole records has been around for a long time, way before the whole downtown fullerton rehabilitation. the key to its success, Bill, the owner who is a very friendly, kind and very knowledgeable about music. the selection is a vast array of brit pop, goth, ethereal, shoegaze, with your choice of cd or vynil, YES VYNIL! he also has "imports" of some of your favorite bands as well. many times i have left with both hands full of just great music. in this age of Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target being music retailers, its is a breath of fresh air to go into an actual record shop and talk with someone who is just passionate about music. read more

I haven't been to this place in years and now I remember why. Prices are steep, however they do have a decent assortment vinyl. But what's with all the Morrissey and Smiths stuff? Gag. Their punk collections are decent, but watch for what you pick up in regards to live pressings. Audio qualities may be so-so on some LPs and with the high prices, may not be worth it. Finally, be cautious of some of the autographed items. A few look illegitimate. read more

I always come here for the 99¢ tapes and records--you never know when you'll find a hidden gem! I've uncovered collections of the Beatles, Lennon, Rolling Stones, Tony Bennett. The costume selection is vast, lots of vintage, interesting and fun to peruse. Definitely stop by for a fun experience with friends, if you're into "treasure hunting," or if you want the latest Alternative releases on vinyl (ex. Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Ray). A true haven for the diehard 80's fan, and the owner is so knowledgable about my favorite band, New Order! read more

Black Hole records is a cool spot. I have been there a few times and did a promotion with them when I was working for a record co a few years ago. Bill from Blackhole (the owner) is awesome, he loves british music, dresses in all black, and is nice as can be. He shares the space with his wife (?) who runs a used clothing store. The key to Blackhole is that they have a great selection of english stuff as well as the darker musical acts. As well they have some amazing bootlegs from england that Bill get's when he goes to Camden every now and then. I have lived in dtf for 12 years and come here every so often. The owner Bill is always nice and has some good knowledge/stories about punk music. I really enjoy punk music, of course early stuff...Black Flag, Ramons, Adolescents. But from being a teenager in the 90s I like a lot of FAT Wrechords (NOFX) bands,Suicidal,Guttermouth, Bad Religion....etc. there is a good selection, I just wish he had more shirts. I was really disappointed when I came on Sunday to purchase two presale tickets to Skitzo and they were unavailable! I was told by a kid with glasses and wearing a beanie that his boss may have took them to come back another time. He couldn't have been bothered to THROUGHLY look for the damn tickets nor did he care to really help. It seemed he was more interested in talking with his friend than doing his job. Why promote presales for a show if the actual tickets aren't there? Also the phone number provided is disconnected. It may have been very helpful if the line was actually in service. I could have had the opportunity to call before wasting my time going there. read more

A small neighborhood record store located within a strange clothing store. Black Hole Records has a good catalog of Alternative rock vinyls from 1980's and 1990's. Lot's of Punk, Indie, Brit Pop not so good on the new releases and electronica. A little on the pricey side. This place is incredible, small store but there's soooooo much to see from the ceiling all the way down. There's even a few racks of vintage clothes from the 1920's up through the 80's and everything in between. I had a chance to talk to the staff and they were really nice, helpful too. If your life absolutely depends on finding a crappy bootleg DVD of Adam and Ants playing live in Detroit, than by all means check this place out. They have a huge selection of shirts for bands (mostly black) that were all the rage when I was in high school as well as overpriced Cd's and records. This store is connected to...to...well, I am not quite sure what the F it is but they sell old letterman jackets and wedding dresses. I guess the kids these days would call it a "vintage" store. Ultimately, this store is great if you are a super numero uno fan of some shitty punk band and have some cash to burn. Otherwise, it is just a nice place to browse every now and then. read more

This places has a ton of Morrissey Smiths bootlegs and hard to find albums but they sell em at collectors prices and they keep em and signed stuff in the racks w/ all the other records. If ur into R.A.C they haveca large selection of that too. Bottom line they have whatever your looking for but money shouldn't be an object if you want em. read more

AWESOME. I'm not even talking about the neat clothes, cool merchandise, and vinyl, I'm talking about the selection of music compilations for SUPER CHEAP. What's different about most of these little DVDs, is that they are recorded from TV. For me, that gives them the retro, gritty, 90s authentic feel I love! It's obvious that many were burned onto DVD from VHS. Some are simply compilations of music videos, interviews, and live performances. Very DIY, very cool. Check it out! read more

My review might be a little inaccurate, seeing as I haven't been to this store in probably a decade, but when I was in high school, it was THE place I hung out while my mom bored me shitless antique shopping in the Fullerton area. I'd peruse the punk records and bond with the employees. They'd special order any import for me and call me to let me know when it came in. Remember that? When getting a record involved finding it in the back of maximumrocknroll and doing mail order? I'm sentimental for the times when things were a challenge. I'll never forget being about thirteen and getting the owner to contact about places overseas to get me The Slits. Awesome. read more

Although the store carries interesting items, the white guy who seems to be in his mid 40's can be condescending, short and rude.

I am very happy with this store because it is real and not corporate. The people inside have become my friends over years I have shopped there. If I want something specific they will order it for me even if it is not something they would normally stock. The records are in great condition and yes that means they will cost more but you are paying for quality! People who do not like this store most likely do not know what they are looking at. The merchandise in this store cannot be found in any store. So in short take the negative comments with a grain of salt. I have shopped in record stores all over the country and in London England; I know what a Record shop should have to offer. read more

I have posted raving reviews at every place I visited during my weekend stay in Fullerton and here is another one. If you like Vintage, good price, into music, etc....This is the place you have to visit. Customer service was great, the prices were reasonable and the store is so much fun to browse through. We were in a hurry by the time we got here or else I could have spend hours going through everything and probably spend too much money. I wish we had more stores like this in Vegas. read more

**If you are a serious collector please reference this review.** I have been collecting for years and would consider myself an expert in the field. This place shares its location with a costume shop- strange, but interesting feel. The selection is very limited, and I have never seen such high prices in a record store. We are talking double, even TRIPLE fair market value. Coinciding with Dustin M below, I don't wish to contribute to the demise of record stores that I dearly love, but this place was is nowhere I'd ever go again. Hands down amazing shop all the way around - such a shame to live up in Sacramento! Was working in town and had a few hours to kill before a job, so I decided to do some searching around for record stores in the Fullerton area, found Black Hole Records and I am SO happy I did. Music selection was off the charts, everything and more in my favorite music genres (Rock, Goth, Brit Pop, Punk, Metal and even some Classic Rock) - Some amazing rare vinyl finds, some signed even! Spent an hour and a half browsing everything, even the clothing: I could have spent the whole day there just taking it all in. Best part of the visit was chatting with Bill and looking through his extensive collection of 7" Brit Pop singles, he was super friendly and knowledgeable - one of the best musical conversations I have had in years.. He filled me in on new and upcoming releases from some of my favorite bands, as well as others from bands I had totally forgotten about - listening to the Editors newest album for the past week (Weight of Your Love) and love it, thank you Bill! I HIGHLY recommend this store if your hunting for vinyl in the aforementioned genres, and for its awesome collection of vintage clothing and costumes. read more

having moved from los angeles to fullerton was excited to find a store that caters to my taste, Bill (the owner) is one of the most knowledgable music store owners i have met, anyone that complains about prices should realize that paying a little extra gets you incredibly great service. no other store treats you as good as black hole does, also having the vintage store attached is awesome, as my wife can go shop to her hearts desire while i sit around sifting thorough records and talking music with Bill, a must if you live in the area and are a fan of good music, its a shame that so many great stores have closed over the years which makes blak hole that much more special, one of the last stands of great taste and service, cheers to them read more

i was staying at my granparents house for a week, im 14 and seen this store while driving by one day and i knew immediately it was a place for Punk rock and such . I walked in and said hello to the cash register guy(Bill) and i was just amazed because of all the bands recognized in one store. ( this is my first record store ive been to ) . black hole is great i got an Adolescents cd and a couple stickers , he gave me one for free. bills a nice guy , hes got a great shop going on here. only thing that is a downside is that the prices are a little high, well to keep the store up and running . and the clothes and costumes in the back were fantastically interesting. Real nice stuff they had back there i was gonna get a pendleton flannel(old skool flannel) but its summer. I gotta comeback one day to Orange County, when i do i will spend it here. read more
