    Black Jack's Old Fashion

I had a great experience at Black Jack's Rum Bar and Grille. My server, Larry, was an absolute character. Dry sense of humor and a little salty, he was an absolute hoot. I love the decor of this Grille. If you're a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean or Black Sails, this is a fun little watering hole. The walls are decorated with Pirate memorabilia and the bar is draped in nets to resemble boarding nets which were rigged along the sides of ships. I thought this was a pretty cool detail. Another great detail was the floors. Colored in teal and shades of blue, it was made to look like water. It really ties the whole themed together. I ordered the grilled fish sandwich and Black Jack's Old Fashion. The fish was snapper, and it was a serious portion--a thick slab cooked perfectly. Flaky, fresh, and not buried under heavy batter. The steak-cut fries were a perfect match. Drinks weren't bad, I just don't think I'm a fan of rum old fashions. Overall, it's a good spot :-)

We had a great time here. The parking was street side, but free. When we got there most tables were taken. Our party of four happily received a booth. We were there about an hour before happy hour ended. We ordered almost completely off the happy hour menu and were able to share and sample a lot. Everything arrived correctly and promptly. Our server was kind and helpful. Extra bonus: 10% military discount year round.

I came here for a late lunch with friends. My friends have visited Black Jack's before. It is a small bar with seating inside and outside. There is a parking lot across the street that has free parking for 2 hours. I ordered the Saltee Heifer Banana Bread (delicious) and the Pineapple Fried Rice (also delicious). I had a good experience dining here.

So was seated right away- it was empty, only 1 other table seated. The waiter came over pretty quickly and handed us menus, ordered pork slider, conch fritters, wings, pork platter. Conch fritters were fried hard and description of the pork platter was chunks but came out shredded - the rice was hard. For some reason there were gnats flying around the entire time, I had to keep fanning them away - it was very unpleasant

I had heard good things about Black Jack's Rum Bar and Grill so we decided to try it out on Saturday. Right off the bat we noticed the giant screen playing football and several other TVs around the bar. I'm sure this is a great place to watch a game. We were seated right away and our waitress was at the table within minutes. They have happy hour everyday from 4-7 and then again late at night. Their signature cocktails were $10 so we ordered a blackberry lemonade and hibiscus margarita. We also got a shipwreck which is 2 for 1 and $16. All the drinks were good. The margarita was strong and the shipwreck was tropical and served in a cute cup. For food we ordered the Cuban spring rolls on the HH menu ($6), prime rib sandwich ($20), black bean and beet burger ($15) and mojo pork ($21). Everything was very tasty. The mojo pork was the standout. It wasn't shredded like we expected but was marinated really well. Prime rib sandwich had great flavor and lots of meat. The burger was really good but would be even better with some sort of aioli. Prices are fair and the interior is nice with lots of tables and a good sized bar with a ton of rums. Nice addition to Davie Road.

If you are looking for a good drink with a tasty bite to watch a sports game, Black Jack might be a try for you. Seated and greeted by our hostess very quickly, our party was sat right across the bar that has two flat screens great for watching games. We arrived during their Happy Hour periods, which discounts drink prices and offers a few bites that can be located on the table to choose from. Looking for craft beer, there is a digital board by the hostess stand that flips through Craft beer, dessert and other options the restaurant provides. I order the hibiscus margarita which was very good but the alcohol was heavily poured so you tasted a lot of it in your first sips. My entree was the Black Bean burgers with avocado and pico de gallo. This was one of the tastiest black bean burgers I have ordered in awhile. My only recommendation for this burger will be a spicy aioli on the side to give it that punch of flavor. The fries were perfectly salted but others might think they are overly salted. The table ordered the Cuban Spring Rolls that came with a season mustard sauce that paired perfect. The table was very impress with how close to a Cuban sandwich these spring rolls tasted. Lastly, the food service from when we order to our table was super quick for the continuous flow of customers that were coming in. The positive attitude that our hostess alway had when she come to our table was amazing. Also, there a huge selection of rum to choose from.

Visited this location yesterday with my wife on a date night we got there got seated. The waiter was nice and the food was good but I believe they could have done better with the steak. Gotta pay for parking if you can't find a parking space in the street

    $25 Prime Rib Wednesday Special
    Harrison W.

The $25 Wednesday Prime Rib Special includes a Shrimp Skewer, Mashed Potato's and Veggies. Amazing value! They also had BOGO Shipwreck Cocktail for $16/person which wasn't bad. The service was excellent and attentive. The decor fit the theme of the bar/grille. Overall I loved the food and drinks, however the music was a bit too loud and the windows don't have shades to block the blaring sunlight.

I stopped in to try their weekday lunch specials & thoroughly enjoyed the food. I sat at the bar and my bartender Rae was very knowledgeable and engaging & we enjoyed a nice chat. Given their fairly-priced $10 lunch specials, I was surprised at the sparse crowd, but they're still new to the area. The Fish & Chips lunch portion was generous and the food was fresh with great flavor. I enjoyed the coleslaw and the house-made tartar sauce paired well with the fish. The chips (steak fries) portion was large & well-seasoned. I'll definitely come back soon and try another one of the lunch specials! I work nearby this location but was pleased to hear they're opening another location closer to Downtown later this summer.

The Beef and Chicken Empanadas were excellent!

What a neat place!!!! Warm, welcoming indoor vibe, with a cool "sea" floor! Service was very attentive, and the waitress gave me good ideas on the Empanadas. Drinks are exotic and classic!!! I think the star of the show, was my wife's Grilled Chicken-Pineapple Salad, with great avocado. I can't wait to go back!!!!

Nice addition to Davie area! Black Jack's is located on the ground floor of an apartment building on Davie Rd. Parking is available across the street. There is a parking app, but the first 2 hours are free. On a Saturday night it was busy but we were able to get a table right away. The atmosphere is super casual. It is also very loud. There are tv's at the bar and a large screen where the NCAA semi-finals was playing. The food is definitely a step above the bar food I have had. Wings were phenomenal. We ordered them with passion fruit bbq but there were other flavors available. Next time we will try the pineapple glaze. The wings not only tasted good but they were huge and reasonably priced. I ordered the Cameronas a la Crillola. The shrimps were large and prepared perfectly (although it was a little tough to get them off the skewer). I was not a fan of the sauce, which tasted a little bitter. Husband ordered the BBQ 1/2 chicken and said it was tender, juicy, and tasty. Overall, very good food and a great value. You can also join their loyalty program for perks. We will return!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic three month old restaurant positioned on the bottom floor of an upscale apartment complex which provides free garage parking for two hours. Happy Hour for food and drink offered everyday from 4pm - 7pm. From the moment I walked in, the entire blue-green lacquered cement flooring provided an oceanic ambiance and the wooden touches provided a warm inviting cohesive atmosphere. Basically, it felt like a modern twist to an old shipwreck theme. The rum bar was the centerpiece that immediately caught my eye. The owner was actually the mixologist who did not exert her verbal skills in my direction, but in her defense, she was diligently preparing some creative rum based drinks. The server, Emma, was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu, which offered a wide selection of fine rums, each with its own unique flavor profile. The rum drinks were enticing, but I was here today for the grub and not the rum - although any rum connoisseur would salivate after viewing their expertly crafted rum cocktail menu - it's clear they take their spirits seriously. Emma recommended the Black Jack's Fish & Chips as one their specialty dishes and sold me on this specialty item. The wild-caught snapper filet with dripped lemon cilantro aioli and the crazy tasty sweet cole slaw was absolutely outstanding. The side car of creamy tarter sauce was a much better choice than the all too common red cocktail sauce. The monster sized two filet snapper (see pic) had a light crispy crust with plump meat and full of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered a higher quality fish instead of Cod or another white fish, which is commonly found at many other fishery based eateries. Emma offered a thoughtful touch to the experience by providing a uniquely designed carafe of water for everyone at the table. The strong focus on quality ingredients and their attention to detail made the meal unforgettable. The gender neutral bathroom was clean, continuing the blue-green flooring and wrap around wall paper depicting a map of the caribbean complemented by wood panels. If you're a fan of rum or simply enjoy exquisite seafood, this place is a must visit. Great creative atmosphere, bubbly staff, and fantastic fish boosted this review rating to a strong 5 stars.

Sidecar Speakeasy was the play... The speakeasy entrance was hidden in a hallway you can walk right by without even noticing. I dig it. Once inside, it's dark. Most of the light is coming from the light showcasing the bottles in the bar. The seating is a little tight as they're trying to maximize space for such a small area. We visited here twice during my visit: We sat at a table and a bar. You have the perfect amount of space for your party, but you're pretty close to the next table or bar seat. No claustrophobic vibes though. All the mixologists were great during both visits. One visit, we ordered their signature cocktails from the menu. When we sat at the bar, we had the mixologist surprise with a cocktail off the menu. He just asked what kind of liquor vibe we wanted, and he took it from there. He was super creative with every cocktail which made for a great time. They stayed upon until midnight one one visit and until 1 am on the other one. Both my visits were on a weekday. The sidecar speakeasy is easily my favorite bar in Fort Lauderdale and I have a feeling I'll be back. Enjoy!

The decor remains a win. Bright, festive, and exactly what you want from a neighborhood Mexican spot. Our server was friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant -- no complaints there. The food, though... felt like an off day. It took quite a while to arrive, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. And when it did hit the table, it was lukewarm. Not cold, not terrible -- just not what you hope for when you're excited and hungry. We ate it without making a fuss (we're not "send it back three times" people), but it definitely didn't match the quality of our first visit. The flavors weren't popping the way I remembered. That said -- here's where I land. Every restaurant has an off day. Kitchens get slammed, timing gets off, things happen. The cappuccino I ordered was extremely disappointing: watery and tasteless, more like diluted milk. It honestly feels like there is no proper barista who understands how to make a good cappuccino. Things only got worse -- I had to look for a server myself just to get sugar, and after asking, it still took another ~10 minutes. We waited around 25 minutes for the Philadelphia rolls, which is already quite long, but the result was even worse: there was barely any cream cheese. The taste was completely off -- just poorly made rolls with almost no filling. I visited this place about six months ago and the service was noticeably better. Now it feels like both the service and food quality have significantly declined. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place.

I have been to Hideaways about 6 or 7 times now; and it's always been a positive experience. First…read moreof all it is decorated super cute.....like a speakeasy. There are leather couches, bookshelves, velvet drapes, and cute light fixtures. The menu has a huge selection of shareables, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and full entrees. The menu items also have cute mob and prohibition-era names like "Untouchables Sliders," "Enforcers'Philly," "Bombshell Chicken," and "Zelda's," and "Capone's" salads. I have come for lunch, for dinner, and after dinner drinks; with just my mom, a few friends, and even a group of 14 ladies celebrating a birthday. The service has a little been slow at times, but the food has always been good and all the servers we've experienced have been friendly. I have especially enjoyed the Bombshell Chicken Sandwich and Hideway's Grilled Cheese. (They have several different grilled cheese options and they are all on sourdough bread either an accompanying cup of tomato soup.) The prices are reasonable and they have a full bar and live entertainment some evenings. Hideaway's is a unique experience; and a fun place to gather. It's easy to get to from anywhere in Plantation and there's lots of free parking. I'm hoping that Hideaways is here to stay!
