The service was excellent! Very knowledgeable staff to help with selection of sizes and models. Great range of options too. Lovely extra 'bells and whistles' including clothing, refueling gels and others essential biking gear. However, I had to notice one issue: there were no caps on the pens! While some of the pens had caps on them, many either had no caps or the caps weren't placed back on them properly! I believe they were the type that does not dry out, however then they could have just taken off all the caps, for consistency's sake. read more

Subpar customer service, experienced 08/28. I went in to the bike shop to ask some general questions about some bicycle issues I've been having with my chain. Eagerly, I went in to the back to ask my questions, and overall get a feel for the situation. Unfortunately my eagerness immediately disappeared when I was talking with one of the representatives (mechanic?) in the back. In the entire conversation he was rude and a bit condescending. It seemed like answering a couple of questions and tending to the customer was low on his priority list. As I was trying to explain myself of the situation he said "Let me finish" in the most rude tone, and was extremely off putting the entire conversation. When I wanted to inquire about possible repairs, he just referred me to the websites, at that point I was done with the conversation, and didn't want to proceed, it's a shame, finding a good bike shop is hard, let alone a mechanic. It seems their ego is easier to find. Anywho. I would recommend another business. read more

The short version: don't expect to be treated like a valuable customer here. You might as well just buy your bike elsewhere. The whole story: I drove 64 miles away from home to spend over $6k on a new Specialized Roubaix Expert from a physical store...hoping for a more personalized shopping experience. About a month later I come back down to the same store b/c they a have a bike stem I want in stock. These guys wanted to charge me to install it. If I knew they were gonna charge me, I would've just brought my tools to screw in the 7 screws required to install the stem. For reference, my local bike shop (5 miles away) has offered to install 3 different parts on my bike on 3 different occasions just b/c I bought the part from them. I didn't even ask, they just offered. When I called the store after leaving to speak to someone (to let them know I was about to leave this review for their shop), Bryan replies with "Well, we've been the #1 shop in the area for a long time..."....? Here's a suggestion: when a customer has a grievance, offer a solution and talk to them like you value their repeat business....probably not the best time to chime in on how you think you're the best shop in town. I wouldn't have let them touch my bike after this experience but the offer to make it right would've been a decent gesture. And yes, I told 3 employees that I purchased the bike from their store: The person who put the item on hold, the person who rang up the transaction, and the service person who quoted me a 5-7 day turnaround to install a stem (?!?!). They clearly could've done the install but just didn't want to. It shouldn't matter. It would've taken 5 minutes to install the thing if I had my tools. I would usually advise shoppers to buy from a local shop but stay clear of this one. You're better off spending your money at another store. oh, and also, this store doesn't offer military discounts...that blows my mind considering how close they are to Miramar. read more

Went to this place last week after work looking for a bike rack. A few people there. But I was waiting a good 10 minutes and absolutely no one helped me. The most I got was a "hi" from someone at the front. A couple was next to the bike racks with me and a guy completely overlooked me and only asked the couple if they needed help with racks. The workers almost felt stuck up there and maybe they thought I didn't have money to buy anything? I decided it wasn't worth my time and bought Kuat NV Base 2.0 from another store. Yes, the project times can be a tad lengthy due to the popularity of this local legend. You will, imo, get your money's worth when that new or serviced bicycle is ready for you! Called to see if they had availability for a bike repair. The service technician automatically came out speaking really stressed out and in a rude hurrying matter. He Asked what's wrong with the bike I gave him a list . And a few things I'm not sure about cause I'm not a bike specialist. So I wouldn't know. Pushy business, wouldn't recommend a direct bike purchase--if you purchase through Specialized and then pick up here you get a much better return policy. I had a defect that led me to want to do a return on an ebike and the shop wouldn't give me a full refund, but gave me a credit for a small portion to "cover their credit card fees". This was December 2023, but the review was still waiting when I went to review a restaurant so it may be stale--but the yearly come in for maintenance email on a bike I returned reminded me to finish this review. Other experiences included pushy staff trying to convince me to put a brand new drive train on a cheap hybrid I purchased in 2013 while I simply bent a front derailleur. If you have budget to spend these guys will offer to overdo necessary repairs. read more

I'm writing in regards to my excellent Bike Fitting experience with Mr. Aaron Hauck. For my 68th birthday I decided to finally get a professional bike fitting on my Cube C:68 Aero bike. The fitting was far more detailed and precise than I anticipated. In fact, it was also very educational. Every detail of fit and biomechanical function was addressed and explained to me. We started with gathering all the data and specifics about me, my riding and my bike. My feet were measured and my shoes and insoles were inspected. My inseam and torso length were measured. My posture, flexibility and injury history were evaluated. Next my bike was measured and the existing setup recorded. Everything was inputted in to the Rutul system. The bike was then secured into a trainer and I climbed aboard and clipped in. Sensors were attached at my wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet. I pedaled until I was warmed up. Aaron proceeded to examine and record all the elements of my positioning, posture and pedaling motion viewed from the right, left, front and rear. Using his experienced eye, lasers and the Rutul computer to completely analyze my position and movements on the bike. After I hopped of the bike Aaron went to work on the bicycle. He carefully adjusted the saddle height, the seat fore aft position and the inclination of the saddle. Next Aaron precisely repositioned the cleats on my shoes. He even went so far as to space the left pedal out 1mm from the crank arm to perfectly adjust my pedaling motion. Finally he adjusted the position of the handlebars and precisely repositioned the levers. Again all the changes were recorded. Back on the bike my revised position and pedaling motion was fully analyzed and recorded. I could immediately feel the improvement and increased comfort on my bike. My pedaling has never been this smooth before. Viewing the results on the Rutul computer, I could clearly see the improvement in my posture and pedaling motion. After having the opportunity to take my bike on a long ride, I can honestly state that I have never been more comfortable on my bike. What was more surprising was the increase in speed, pedaling power and pedaling efficiency. Aaron's expertise, knowledge and attention to detail are impressive. Not only is this one of the best bike shops in this area, but they're also in the same shopping center with a few more of my favorites: Board & Brew, Trader Joe's and GEN KBBQ! (I'm an easy gal to please, I know.) It has been a while since I last made note of a bike service, but Black Mountain is a gem. Some of the best brands! (Santa Cruz, Specialized, Pivot) Great, friendly staff! They're attentive every time I've been here. Service guys who work on the bikes all seem professional and knowledgeable when I happened to be in the shop and caught some of the scene. I was referred by a friend when I was researching some gift ideas for our son's next mountain bike. I still get overwhelmed when I see the immense variety of gear and bikes, to be honest, but that's why I rely so much on the staff for their input. This review is primarily directed to JD who works in the bike fitting department. Background, I started cycling over 7 years ago and it has become a passion since. However, throughout, I suffered major back and hip pain as a result. So much so, I considered that my riding career would have to end because the pain was too much. To address this, I went to a major bike retailer in San Diego and they led me to believe that I was getting an actual bike fitting(by the owner). I later came to realize that was NOT an actual fitting, it was just a contraption to sell me a bike but it didn't address my pain at all and so I continued to ride through the pain thinking I had actually been properly fitted. I feel it was completely misleading to claim that what they were doing was a fitting. I then went to two other "professional fitters" here in SD and NONE fixed the problem and we are talking HUNDREDS of dollars later. I was at a point where I could barely ride 20 miles, 2 days a week. I was determined but literally at the end of any hope that the problem could be fixed. I figured I'd take ONE MORE shot and reached out to JD at Black Mt. Bicycles but really didn't have any expectations. I just told him, "If you can fix my issue, you will essentially be my hero". Well, I just went back for my second fitting with JD and for the first time ever, I rode without ANY pain. Finally I felt what it was like to actually ride without pain!!! DUDE YOU ARE A LIFE CHANGER! I am definitely going to be buying a bike from them. He gave me some great advice regarding gravel bikes which I will be getting when the next years models come out. One of their sales reps was so helpful; he didn't take time to let me test ride the two bikes I was interested in buying. With the purchase, he threw in a foot pump, psi gauge, and cool flat pedals for free. After a couple of rides in the canyon on my new bike, I started detecting some creaking emanating from the front wheel. I suspected some play from the front hub--I was 99% sure. 'Brought back the bike for warranty work; the service department received me nicely & courteously--no issues. Cool guy at service department took the bike for overnight inspection and repair. Brian called me the next day, and the bike was fixed and running ever so smoothly as if nothing happened! Man, I am very pleased with the customer service they gave me. Been here quite a few times and have had them tune and replace failed components in the past; always great work and service. But this last time i was there one of their techs in the service dept was super cool and super helpful when i walked in the door with my daughter's bike thinking i would just drop it off and pick up another day. Ended up the kind man quickly tune the brakes, let me learn by observing him perform what i was failing to do on my own before i got there, and then got me out the door for next to nothing ($) for his extended hours service; that is, they were closed before i left. This shop has always come through for me. Was in the shop today again for repairs. The guy that helped me is solid. Good dude and great attitude and willingness to help. Gonna have to capture his name next time but he's always at the back desk ready to help correct whatever damage or broken components i have incurred. I bought a new folding bike and replaced the original saddle with a comfort+ saddle. The new saddle angle was tilted upwards. I took my bike to this bike shop because I was not able to adjust the saddle clamp on the seat post. Diego greeted me with a warm smile. He tried to adjust the saddle clamp several times without success because the clamp was stuck. Diego didn't give up. He took the saddle to the service department to find a tool to loose the clamp. Diego was able to adjust the clamp to make the saddle angle look better. Diego didn't charge me for his work. I really appreciate what Diego did for me.
