Hi. This place is decent. But talk about a dichotomy! On the one hand there was this terrific server who was attentive and polite. But unfortunately he let his inattentive and unapologetic workmate plop down a plate of food in front of us that we didn't order. Naturally, my first thought was "geez I'm glad that wasn't my food". If servers can't be more attentive about their sole purpose at a restaurant, why even bother showing up to work? Can't you ask either the server or the customer first, before you plop it down in front of us to confirm the order? And how does the actual person who ordered this feel? If my food was passed around to everyone before it got to my table... I'd be super upset. Get your delivery methodology down. And don't laugh it off when you screw it up! It's disrespectful to all of your paying customers. read more

The salads in Branson are fresh and delicious, which is great since most of the other vegetables are deep fried. We loved the Black Oak salad, and were pleasantly surprised with the rest of the menu. Locally hand-crafted bread with sweet whipped butter, mesclun greens and meat from a local butcher. The meatloaf and the pot roast were okay, I wouldn't say the best ever. The mashed potatoes and gravy were rich and creamy and kind of dreamy. The service was excellent. We felt we were friends with everyone before our meal was over. We came here for dinner. The location was easy to find, Branson is not that big. Black Oak Grill is located in Branson Landing. We were greeted right away and led to a booth in the bar area. Our server was one of the bartenders and service was excellent. They claim to be a farm to table restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Loved the interior design. Lots of beautiful decor items and a cathedral wood ceiling in the center of the dining area. BJ started with a beer, I got a raspberry cosmopolitan. It was made with Gray Goose Vodka, Cointreau Liqueur, Chambord and white cranberry juice with an orange twist. I would rate it as the most incredible beverage ever. For my meal, I kept it simple. I got a cup of tomato basil soup and a Black Oak Salad. The salad consisted of mesculin greens, smoked almonds, Fuji apples and blue cheese crumbles. I requested that the maple pecan vinaigrette be served on the side in case I didn't like it. No chance of that, it was good enough to drink! BJ got the pot roast. It was incredible tender and full of flavor. It was served with braised veggies, a side of squash and garlic smashed potatoes. Unfortunately, the potatoes were barely lukewarm. Our server took the plate back to the kitchen to get them reheated. All this was served with a mini loaf of fresh bread and whipped butter. For dessert we shared a Kahlua Ding Dong. This dessert is amazing! This was one of our best meals while in Missouri. Highly recommend Black Oak Grill. read more

First impressions are everything. Walk into an mostly empty restaurant on a Sunday evening at 7:30pm and have to wait to be seated does not lead one down a path of food euphoria. Once seated service was good. Tea and water served promptly. Wife ordered a mixed drink that was so small it was gone in two drinks. Not worth the $6.75 they charged. We both got the tomato basil soup. It was good. Not great. But better than most. We both had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were fresh and the cream gravy was flavorful. The chicken fried steak itself was average. The night was cold so we are able to be sat near a fire. Clean restaurant. A slight bit better than most. read more

Wow! I was a little worried about the reviews but we went here for valentines weekend. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation and they say us immediately. Our waitress was great, funny and sociable. Everything we ate was amazing. Chicken Fried Chicken was delicious as were the garlic smashed potatoes. Hubby had the Prime Rib Sandwich, also delicious. Some of our party had drinks from the bar that were also very good. Our server was good and very attentive. They are still operating at about half capacity for COVID and/or lack of servers. Carrot cake and cheesecake were incredible. I had dinner with family on a Friday night. I had been concerned that the live music would be loud and make it hard for us to talk, but it turned out the live music was outside on the patio, at a volume that was not noticeable indoors yet enjoyable outside. I had the seared ahi salad Black Oak. The tuna was high quality, raw in the center, lightly seasoned, delicate texture, delicious. I opted for oil and vinegar and ranch dressing on the side as the default dressing (with honeyed pecans or something) sounded horribly oversweet. The tuna needed no dressing and was great without any. I used a slight bit of ranch for the lettuce. My spouse had the chicken club sandwich and quite enjoyed it. A niece had the cheeseburger but was disappointed, although I'm unclear what she didn't like, aside from saying it wasn't very good. I chatted with the manager briefly about the description of the meats and vegetables as locally-sourced. He told me the meats all came from one specific butcher and had been raised by area farms, and most of the vegetables came from area farms. I look forward to a return visit to try a steak. read more

It was was okay...not as great as I had set my hopes up for. But okay. I like that its farm to table, but I honestly didn't feel that vibe. We got the fried goat cheese...we both like trying new things, so were excited about this. It didn't wow us. The breaded and fried cheese ball part was good, but the marinara sauce it sat in felt very canned. I had a pulled pork sandwich with fries...it was okay. Our food was very slow coming out, so our server offered either complimentary dessert or a complimentary round of drinks...so that was sweet of her, especially since we never complained about the slowness of our food. I can only review on the wings. We went there for happy hour on a weekday and just wanted a drink & some wings. The menu describes the wings as "10 JUMBO wings" with your choice of sauce. We ordered the mango habenero wings and they were the smallest, worst tasting wings that we have ever tasted. We both tried one each and put it down after 1 small bite. It tasted like they were fried in rancid oil. I posted a photo of the wings, but the nasty and smelly flavor doesn't come through in a photo. But, you're warned. If I owned or managed this place, that would never have come out of my kitchen. We moved the wings away from us and the 8 wings left on the plate sat in front of us on the bar the entire time we sat there (hour and a half) and the bartender never removed them or asked if we liked them. When he brought the check, he took the plate of untouched wings and tossed them in the trash. Bartender could have been more attentive or friendly. He became that once he handed us our tab though. They do have a great happy hour, Mon-Fri, 3-6 pm with half off beer, wine & appetizers. And, their menu states that happy hour on Saturday is 11 am to 6 pm, so that would be a great deal. The restaurant is clean and decorated very nicely and we were greeted by a friendly staff member. I think I will try this restaurant again since it has received great reviews, but I would definitely not order the micro "jumbo" nasty wings. read more

This was our first visit here and we were both so impressed by the food and the service. I had the pulled pork and my other half had a burger, both came out promptly and was hot and perfect to order! I live in Branson and have tried to give this place a try several times. Each time I give it a 1 star review. This i. My opinion the worst place to eat at the Branson landing. I originally went to black oak grill becasue their outdoor patio is dog friendly. I do not recall what I ordered the first visit, but it was a grilled chicken dish. I remember this becasue the chicken was so dry, old or over cooked that I cut it up and put in my training treat pouch for my dogs. They loved it! Me, I couldn't eat it. There was cheese on it and the cheese was glued to the dish. The staff was slow and to say the least neglectful to my presence outside. A simple drink refill was difficult to obtain. Second visit was again due to dog friendly patio. I ordered a salad. Figured you can't mess it up, right? Well the salad was slimy, had big pieces of thick iceberg lettuce, and was not edible. I did mention this to the wait staff and she did ask if I wanted something else. I had lost my appetite and left paying full price. Wait staff was better this time. Third visit I actually went inside with a small party! I was pretty optimistic to give this place a third chance. Hoping being inside would give me more attention. We went during lunch, the place was not busy. Only two more tables aside from us. Wait staff was slow, had to repeatedly ask for refills, several of our party did not receive tjongd they ordered, but did not complain. My significant other did politely request the items. The worst part was the food. Between my significant other and I we tried our parties dishes, we had 6 people. Everyone ordered something different and it All tasted like old, cafeteria food. I didn't eat my meal. I'm not always expecting five star dining. I personally love fast food. Frozen, greasy fast food. but I don't expect it when I visit a sit down restaurant and pay premium price. Daughter had the fish and chips and said it was some of the best she's ever had. Son had chicken fried chicken twice and both times cleaned his plate. Had lunch there earlier today. Food was good and service was sufficiently fast. I paid with an AMEX gift card that I had just received. When I went to use the card again at another establishment I was surprised to find that it had less on it than I expected. In checking the transaction history online with AMEX I discovered that the restaurant overcharged my card by about $5 on a $35 bill. Not a significant dollar amount but I have to believe it wasn't an accident. Very disappointed after that. read more

This is a good upscale restaurant for those that want a relaxed and classy dining experience without paying $25+ per entree. Our family of five went on a Tuesday, so it was not busy. We ordered the BBQ nachos for an appetizer which fed all of us well. The pork on top was a bit tough, but not bad. We all ordered drinks as well. The Black Oak Punch is fabulous but pretty sweet, so I'd recommend it for an after dinner drink or summer refresher. Great Malbec red wine too. The Louis M. Martini CabSav was not as good in comparison. We ordered the following: Meatloaf: great flavor, delicious sauce. Meat (not sauce) was somewhat spicy. I'd say a 1-2 on the 5 point Thai food scale. This is a smaller plate that would probably not feed more than one. Seasonal veggies were fabulous. Fried chicken: very good. Not overly breaded. Significant portion. Came with the same great seasonal veggies. Chicken Parmesan: great. Wonderful flavor, but just a tad too breaded. Wish it came with a side of veggies, but you do get penne pasta. Also a good portion. I took some home. Baby back ribs: I don't recommend these. Meat was very tough and overcooked. Sirloin: fabulous. Was ordered rare and actually came out as a true rare, which is not very common. Tender with fantastic flavor. Different kind of mashed potatoes than I've seen but delicious. We had the Ding Dong something-or-other for dessert (because I'd read people rave about it on the Yelp reviews) but ALL five of us were disappointed. The cake portion was extremely dry, which ruined the whole thing. You can't make a chalky cake taste better with frosting and chocolate liqueur. Service was decent. Waiter was somewhat late in refilling our waters and clearing plates. I would have given the restaurant 4 stars were I to go to it in my hometown of Tulsa, but, being as it's in Branson, we were all very pleased. So I have been to Black Oak several times. It is located at the Landing. I find the atmosphere very casual and relaxing, especially after a shopping adventure. The prices are very reasonable and the service never sucks. The food is tasty as well. If you get the right table you have a view of Taneycomo lake. We never have to wait for seating either. During good weather outside seating is available and welcomed! All in all it's a very fair value. The food is consistently good. read more

Having read some recent positive reviews, we decided to give this place a shot. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed overall. Out of 11 meals, only two of them (burgers) were delicious. One of our mason jars cracked (no one's fault) and our poor server had to clean it (with our help) while fellow servers walked by and stared as she tried to clean. BBQ pork nachos came out as though they had sat under a heat lamp for far too long and the rest of the food was sub par. The wait was about an hour from the time we placed the order until the food came to the table. There was no updates or apologies for the long wait, as we were leaving, I heard the hostess telling an awaiting guest that the kitchen was quite behind. It would've been nice to hear this from our server. Note: I realize this is a systemic issue for this restaurant, rather than an individual server issue. read more

We came here for a birthday lunch with a biggish group shortly after they opened for the day. So it wasn't busy but a large group seemed to present a problem for the kitchen. Sllooooww service. The food was okay - salad and chicken tortilla soup for me, sandwiches for others. Basic fare that was pretty good. The salad was a cut above with sliced almond and blue cheese, the soup was basically chili with some tortilla strips on top. Salty and unimaginative. The establishment is accommodating to those with gluten sensitivities and low carb needs, so that was a plus. Branson doesn't appear to be a stellar food town so this is one of the better options.
