I had a meeting with a group of people. I wanted spanakopita for lunch. They had run out of it. Most people ordered the moussaka. So i ordered moussaka. Everyone who ordered moussaka had a huge 3" tall piece about 4 " long. It was beautiful. I received mine1" tall and 3" long. I ate half. I left feeling sick. Terrible stomach pains and got home just in time. It is sad cause it was first time trying moussaka. The wait staff was very good but I don't know what was in that tiny piece I had. read more

Had an excellent dinner with my party of six. The food was spot on. The owner was very informative and social with us. The chef came out to greet us. We were very satisfied with the quality and the service. The roast lamb special did not disappoint and the lamb chops were spot on. I highly recommend the grilled octopus which was super tender. Don't order food to go unless you want to be overcharged!!!!! We have ordered twice from here and both times over charged us, the first time I didn't realize it as I did not pay nor pickup the food. (Both times within one week) I tried to call to explain nicely they overcharged us as I looked at the receipt in the car on my way home I was rushed off the phone by the manager saying that I was charged correctly. After I told him the prices online differ from what was on the receipt. I sent them an email hoping that I would get a response from someone but I did not. I'm not a fan of writing reviews but I feel that its necessary when you are being taken advantage of. I will not be a return customer. read more

Another couple suggested we have dinner at BO after seeing a movie. I'm not a big Greek food guy but we went anyway. I ordered Moussaka and it was delicious. The service was perfect. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The ambiance was very pleasant. We decorated space with plenty of room between tables to have a private conversation. read more

Wow I haven't been here in 2 years and boy have I been missing out. Came here with my parents who were skeptical about my dinner choice but needless to say they left with smiles and full bellies. I ordered the Lemon Flavored Roasted Chicken. It was cooked perfectly on a charcoal grill, and was well seasoned. It came with some lemon potatoes and green beans as well. Overall a 10/10 dish. I also tried some spinach and rice as well. This dish doesn't look the best but it tastes amazing! The service was fast and the waiter was very helpful. This place is very low key and reasonably priced (good portions)! I would highly recommend for a date or if you just want good food. 12/10 recommend going here. read more

New owners did a great remodel but the menu changes and increased prices meant less food for more money. My favorite roasted red pepper with goat cheese app is no longer on the menu. There was half the amount of tzatziki in the appetizer portion. The once flavorful branzino was anything but and now instead of coming with a house salad (that I used to love) and two sides, there is only one side and no salad. I'm so sad. I really enjoy this restaurant. It's our third time here and it doesn't disappoint. We were greeted at the door and were promptly seated. Our server Terrance was very attentive and quick with everything we asked for. We were given warm crusty bread with dipping oil and olives. We had the fried calamari and grilled halloumi as appetizers and both were delicious. My husband had the braised lamb and orzo (he loved it, he said the lamb was flavorful and very tender) and I had the seafood platter with 2 types of orzo. ( orzo was bland) It consisted of 3 over cooked shrimp, a very small portion of grilled octopus (which was a bit slimy) and 2 large pieces of calamari. The calamari could of been cooked a little bit longer. I definitely won't be ordering this dish again. Their side salad is delicious and the feta cheese is amazing. This is a byob so make sure you come prepared. We ended the night taking dessert home a piece of baklava and another delicious dessert I can't pronounce or spell (Ekbek?sp) and both are delicious! The only downside to this dining experience was a female server who was chewing gum and popping it up and down the aisle. So freaking annoying and unprofessional. Glad she wasn't our server. The restaurant was clean and lights were dim which served for a very romantic dinner. read more

I've never had a bad meal here ever. I love Greek food and when I lived in Marlton I stopped often, especially after a movie at the Ritz. Covid stopped my eating out for a while, but my daughter was visiting recently from MD and took me to dinner. It didn't disappoint. I even got an extra Greek salad for my supper the next night. Went here back in the winter time at around 7:30pm and after about an hour and 15 minutes, they began to close the restaurant down while we were still eating our food. Literally putting chairs on top of the tables and cleaning up. I've never witnessed anything like that. To add to that, we ordered a mixed variety of food items, including the octopus as an appetizer. That was single handedly the biggest ripoff. We received about 5 pieces which were tiny in size. They tasted okay, but it wasn't worth the $12 or so that it cost. The main dishes were also nothing special and left much to be desired.I will never go back to this place, especially with the poor service and the feeling as if we were being kicked out. read more

Very good Greek food served in a lovely setting. We had the octopus for our appetizer, and moussaka, lamb gyro and spinach pie for our entrees. Everything was well-prepared and very tasty. The bread with olive oil served with our delicious Greek salads was quite good also. Family friendly as well- they have a decent kids' menu. BYOB so bring a nice bottle of wine to go with dinner! My best friend took me to Black Olive Restaurant for an early birthday luncheon. Greek cuisine is my favorite of all cuisines and I was so used to having to go to Philly to score some decent Greek grub, so having a Greek place close by with such great reviews had me wanting to go to this place for months, so I was really excited! We went around noon on a Saturday and we were the first ones through the door. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. In case I forget to mention it later, the service (from start to finish) was exceptional and the food came out quickly! No, onto the food - we started with two appetizers: the saganaki and the goat cheese stuffed red pepper. Both were delicious. Saganaki was on par with the best I've ever had anywhere. The pepper was roasted perfectly and had just the right amount of goat cheese stuffed inside. For our entrees, I opted for the moussaka and she chose the lemon chicken corfu. I can't attest to the corfu as she didn't care to share, but that non-Greek water devoured the entire plate, so it had to be good. The moussaka was fresh, delicious, aromatic - everything a moussaka should be. A true Greek place needs to nail the staple moussaka to keeps coming back and Black Olive met and exceeded all of the hopes I had going in. I will be back - time and time again. My husband and I ordered Black Olive for dinner via delivery, and half of our order was left out. When the delivery service called the restaurant to ask if half the order was left there, they couldn't be bothered checking. The delivery service then re-initiated a delivery of the missing entree only to then be cancelled by the restaurant which was too busy to make right on the order that was messed up. On top of that, I half of the chicken kabobs pieces in my order were fatty and I could not even eat them. This was our first and last time ordering from this restaurant. read more

I think this place is a gem the food is so delicious I and my wife went yesterday for our anniversary and the Placke fish with tomatoes was so gd good words don't cover it, She got the moussaka I'm not a huge fan of eggplant but it was awesome and the appetizers we got were fried calamari made to perfection and lamb patties don't know the proper names were also unbelievable so amazing. I highly recommend the place if anything was bad I felt like I had to beg for bread and three olives in a plate is kind of pathetic. They need to be a little more generous in that regard at least with bread (your fault the sauces are to good not to eat with Bread). We had the place to ourselves it was early so being busy can't be an excuse for just ok service. We were here on 6/23/2019 This was our first time and it was outstanding. The staff was very welcoming and we were seated right away. Took our drink order right away. It's byob. We ordered an appetizer which was plenty for us and they also brought us dipping sauce for our bread. Didn't want to over fill ourselves before the main meal , so what they served was was just enough. The meal was wonderful and plenty. My husband has calamari, octopus and shrimp and I had the jumbo shrimp platter w a splash of ouzo in it. Both meals were wonderful. No room for dessert but we did have coffee. We were celebrating my birthday. The meal was very reasonable compared to the other Greek restaurant in Marlton. We will definitely be back. read more

I've came here three times and I have to say the best thing they have on the menu are there greek salads and baclava. The last time I came here, they were closing at 9 and all the servers were standing in the coats waiting to leave while we were finishing our dessert. All the chairs were up too. It was very rude. When a restaurant is busy on a Monday night it's a great sign. With that in mind we discovered that the food and atmosphere at the Black Olive did not disappoint when we spontaneously dropped in for dinner that night. The setting is a modern Greek restaurant with wood floors and white linen table cloths covered with brown butcher paper. The kitchen is open but is blocked from sight by a long, 5 foot tall, upholstered banquet. The noise level is not too loud so conversations are easily heard between tablemates. We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive. In a short time our beverages were delivered along with a basket of fresh bread and some olive oil and a few olives. We sampled the Avgolemono soup which was delicious. It had just the right consistency and it's flavor was boosted by the occasional chicken piece. We also had the fried calamari which was exquisitely tender and was accompanied by a tasty tomato based dipping sauce. For our entrée we had the Gyro sandwich which came with the Greek fries. The portions of both items were large and our Gyro was stuffed with tender meat surrounded by freshly grilled pita bread. The Greek fries were especially tasty and they lived up to the descriptions in some of these other Yelp reviews. We had requested extra tzatziki sauce to dip the fries in and our server made sure to fulfill this request. To sum things up the Black Olive is a fantastic modern Greek restaurant with delicious food, large portions and fast, friendly service. Aside from dinner they have take out available and they take credit cards. This would be a great place to take a date or to have the gang meet up and get together to enjoy a fantastic meal. There is a movie theater is in the same shopping center making the Black Olive a great place for a delicious dinner and a movie. I thought the prices were very reasonable and the quality very high especially in light of the large portions that were served. After finding this resaurant we thought we had died and gone to Greek Heaven because the food was so delicious! We will definitely be going back to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

On a recent lunch visit-still trying to figure out what the problem was---- poor service and/or a crisis in the kitchen or both. As there was only four tables occupied at this particular time--there should not have been a problem. If the restaurant was crowded I would have given them the benefit of the doubt. Had to tell the waitress we were ready to order after a 20 minute wait. Getting my order straight with the waitress would require too much writing here. Let's just say it was like a trip to The Twilight Zone as she tried to convince me what I wanted and did not want to eat. Forty five minutes later I had to get the host(?) manager(?) to ask where my soup and my partner's spinach pie were. I was told very loudly by this man-and believe me I'm not that old and I'm not deaf--that the kitchen made our entrees BEFORE they made the soup or spinach pie. We were served the spinach pie and soup. Both were lukewarm at best. I was too exhausted by that time to complain. Lunch entrees were mediocre. My only real complaint is the service, which can be either a bit unfriendly (in particular the owner, who usually acts like he is bothered by you being there), or just a bit haphazard (forgetting what you ordered, difficulty getting refills, etc). It was prepared well but for that it was NOT worth $15. We had a house salad for $12 that too was a very small portion for the price. Really? $12 for small salad with feta and tomatoes? They weren't heirlooms or anything like that. Probably Restaurant Depot or Produce Junction crap. The soup, split pea was an ordinary puree. My entree, moussaka was disappointing too. At first it came out and it was cold in the center, the side of green beans were tepid. The plate was messy on the rim, didn't even bother to wipe it clean. The eggplant were not peeled and it ruined the dish. Hardly had ground lamb or potatoes. Very sad. I've eaten there before and had a great moussaka but this was nothing close to what I had before. This was my husband and I's first time there. We were really excited about going. We have date night once a week and so this is usually a pretty big deal for us. First off, the host who may have been the manager, wasn't very welcoming at all. He looked at us and almost completely ignored us in order to take care of the white couple who came in after us. Side note, we were the only ppl of color there and he treated us as if we didn't belong there. We were sat at 7pm. This is important. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. We orderes hummus as an appetizer. The hummus was the best part of the entire dining experience. Half way through the appetizer, our soup was brought out, which tasted like it was from a can. About 5 minutes into our soups and our entrees were brought out. At this point I looked around the restaurant and noticed all the other guests around us who were there before us, were still working on their appetizers. So it made us feel as if we were being rushed out. My husband's moussaka was cold and to be returned to the kitchen. My dinner sat on the table until i could finish my soup. We were given our check by 7:40pm. So much for a date night. We felt so rushed and we couldn't understand why as the restaurant wasn't jammed packed. I hate to think that we were rushed out because we were ppl of color. The ONLY ppl of color in the entire restaurant. We tipped our waiter well and left. The food was actually so gross it was laughable. The dips had no taste to them at all (Pikilia). If a table of 3 orders 4 dips, it would make sense to bring a reasonable amount of pita bread. This place brings out a plate of about 8 little triangles of pita bread. It didnt make sense to give so little for the amount of dips. I asked for more and we were told it would cost $1 for more. So silly. My chicken in my Greek salad tasted sour like it was sitting out for a long time or raw. The waiter also brought out the wrong order entirely for my brother in law. I don't know why restaurants want their waiters to remember all orders without writing them down?? This is a cheaply run place and the food shows. You have to try the hummus and olives which is among the best I have ever had. You must try the gyro sandwich which is packed with meat and comes with fries. I always substitute the fries with the Olives delicious Greek salad. Other appetizer recommendations are the haloumi, calamari and Greek coffee. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the decor only enhances the dining experience! A great place for a date night. Suggestion: have a dinner at Black Olive and then go see a movie at the AMC theatre next door or go to the chip and putt or mini-golf across the street. My hubby and I were going to the movies so we were looking for something nearby. This has been on my list for a while but was hesitant after reading the reviews. I'm glad I ignored the bad ones. What a welcome surprise. We shared the hummus appetizer. Maybe not the best I've had but hit the spot.I got the chicken corfu. Soooo good. Just the right amount of garlic-- plenty! The hubby got the gyro platter and loved it, and that man knows his gyros. Some people complained about getting bread rather than pita at the table. They can give me their bread. It was crusty but soaked up the delicious olive oil perfectly. My only complaint is the comfort level. The chairs were not very comfortable. Regardless, we'll be back. read more

We've been to Black Olive quite a few times over the past year and it is now my go-to spot when I'm craving a gyro and don't want to travel too far from home. As far as I know south Jersey does not have an abundance of Greek restaurants or at least I haven't found many yet. We always order hummus and it's delish. Only gripe would be that they served it with more pita. The hummus to pita ratio favors heavily on the hummus, which btw I love because you're definitely getting your money's worth. But if you ask for more pita they will charge you $1, keep in mind. Even parts of my heritage are Greek, I never stray too far from my usual gyro sandwich when it comes to Greek food. It's always exactly what I'm craving. The Greek fries are amazing and I always want to bottle up their tzatziki and take it home with me. My husband always orders the chicken souvlaki platter and loves the side salad that comes with it. Black Olive doesn't have a very extensive children's menu. Which I get, they're not catering to the little ones. With mine being 10 years old, she is off and on of the children's menu at various restaurants. At the Black Olive, she's tried everything and hasn't been a fan. This past time she ordered the shrimp appetizer and it was two jumbo shrimp cut in half and grilled with the skins and tails on. It was very hard for her to get the shrimp out of the shell and she wound up splattering oil from the dish onto her shirt. It was a mess. I do wish our server would have warned us about the app when my daughter ordered it. For 10 bucks it seemed like she barely was able to eat the two pieces of shrimp. The ambience is both romantic and/or casual depending on where you want to sit. I love that I can go with my husband and sit in a corner or go with my daughter and sit where it's a bit more loud.
