Went for sushi tonight because Takara was slammed busy. The sushi was good, but you were able to tell it wasn't fresh. My fiancé and I had 6 rolls and then went home. After about an hour we started to experience nausea and an upset stomach that lead to us both throwing up. He explained to me we shouldn't have gone because there was a white semi outside of the restaurant and that meant they were getting new fish and we ate the old gross fish. I will probably never eat here again after this. Paying almost $50 for sickness isn't something I'm too happy about. read more

The Chinese food is just ok. The soup (hot and sour) is actually quite good. Wonton soup was acceptable but boring. Most in our party were ok with their food ...but that means it was pretty much mediocre. The party who had sushi ate it but wasn't thrilled. The service was the worst. One of party's food was 10 minutes behind the rest. That's a very long time delay for lunch food in a half empty dining room. This place has potential and has a fairly good location but I bet their business is mostly from nearby hotels. Repeat customers aren't very likely based on our experience. I don't recommend it unless you have no car and have to walk from somewhere nearby. read more

Both were good, not amazing, but the lunch and dinner combos are a great value at $6 and $8.50 respectively. Black Pearl is one of the better options for Chinese in Logan. Anywhere else, I'd probably give it three stars but Logan struggles to get decent Chinese food and Black Pearl was above our standard and a place we'd actually consider returning to. My husband and I each got a meal, one with Mongolian beef and one with sesame chicken. The portions were decent and the price was very fair. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's true: Logan has a REAL Chinese restaurant!!! It's unbelievable, right? But, Dorothy, it's true, when you wish upon a star, your dreams do really come true! So, my wife and I have lived here in Logan for just over a year now. And I can't count the number of times I've said, "You know what THE problem with Logan is? The bad drivers. But, beyond the bad drivers, there are no real Chinese restaurants in this town." I can't say that anymore. Well, I can still complain about the bad drivers at least. I've lived in San Francisco and had the pleasure of eating at Yet Wah in the Inner Richmond every weekend. I've lived in LA and have been to Ocean Star in Monterey Park countless times. I've been to Beijing and Hangzhou more times than I care to remember and have eaten at the top restaurants those cities have to offer. I've even eaten at some of the nicest establishments in Hong Kong. And, I know it's almost impossible to believe, but the food at Black Pearl rivals any and all of them! Look, I'm Chinese! I should know! I'm the guy who goes to the local Hong Kong noodle shop at the corner, when I lived in the Inner Sunset, with the roast ducks and roast chickens hanging up in the windows, always ordering the congee with thousand year egg and salted fish. My mom is the bad Asian driver, who goes to authentic Chinese restaurants and harangues the staff loudly and embarrassingly about how the huge fish that she just picked out of the tank and had steamed Hong Kong style "just isn't fresh enough" and returns it to the kitchen mid-meal! Anyhow, if your concept of Chinese food is General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken and Moo-Shoo Pork, don't worry, they got that at Black Pearl. And it'll be the best General Tso's Chicken you ever had. But, if you're Chinese and know how to speak Mandarin, you should simply say to the waitress, "Bring me the 4 dishes that you and the chef think are best, based on what's fresh and available at the moment." Went for the sushi, there rolls are half off so it is cheap, but these are probably the worst rolls I've had I got 2 fried rolls and both were cold and didn't have much flavor and I was the only one in the restaurant you'd think the roll would be hot. I also got the spider roll and again wasn't very good and I always love spider rolls. I won't be going back. But I'll give it a 2 since the service was okay, and the restaurant looked nice inside. read more

There is a lot lacking at this restaurant. One main thing is service. The waitress (we had her twice in a row) just stands in the back chatting with the sushi chef, even though she took our drink orders and we were waiting for them. She doesn't re-fill as often, either. However, the Lo Mein is THE BEST I have ever tasted, and I crave it now. Sesame chicken is ok, I had a salad which also was ok. With some trepidation we decided to try Black Pearl again when we heard it was under new management. We had had mediocre to bad experiences there after enjoying it when it first opened. I'm glad to say Black Pearl is back on top, with tasty food that befits the modern, visually striking setting. Prices at lunch are out-of-this-world low for the amount and quality of food. Lunch combos start at $5.95 and include heaping portions of a main item, two cream cheese wontons, two dumplings, a serving of fried rice, and soup -- what a great value. The menu includes Chinese food, sushi and other Japanese dishes, and even a few Thai selections. Multi-cuisine eateries often miss the mark, but I tried items from all three cuisines and everything was well-prepared and tasted good. Service can be hit or miss. If the only kind of Chinese you like comes out of a styrofoam tray or a white paper box with a pagoda on it, Black Pearl's probably not the place for you. However, if you like Chinese food that's more authentic than usual, more flavorful than usual, and fresher than usual, you better get over to Black Pearl. They have good sushi, too--especially for being this far inland. The sushi bar is neat, and you can sit right in front of the sushi chefs if you want to. The rest of the restaurant has a definitely upscale feel. It's not a hole in the wall, but it's not priced far off the hole-in-the-wall prices, which is great. I'm a big fan of their lo mein noodles. Yummy. Get the miso soup, too. It's really good. The orange chicken is good, too. Never tried anything I didn't like, if not love. My one quibble is that they don't serve the raw sushi on chilled plates, and they don't really have a half-order option, which means you better share if you get something like sweet and sour pork or orange chicken that's battered, fried, and sauced, since, like any other fried food, it won't save. When this place first opened, I ate here a few times and vowed never to return. The sushi was mediocre, the service was poor, and the Chinese food was awful. When I saw that they have new management, I decided to give them another chance. I'm glad I did. We went there a couple of times last month and had appetizers and sushi, and they were excellent. We went back last week and decided to give the lo mein a chance - such an improvement over what they were serving when they first opened! I love the a.a.c. roll and the seaweed salad. My husband really likes the supercrunch roll. The avocado spring rolls are pretty unique and tasty as well. read more

We have eaten here two times. Its not the best food. Everything was cut really small, over cooked and everything deep fried so you couldn't tell if it was really chicken or not. The service was fine, friendly, answered any questions we had. The lunch special is reasonably priced. We did get what we paid for. Can't say we will go back anytime soon. I actually really enjoy this establishment. Interestingly enough, I have never dined in house. I only ever am able to order delivery and this restaurant does not have a minimum, they just charge a $2 delivery fee! Anyway, last time I ordered, I received the Teriyaki Dinner Combo with an egg roll, 4 pieces of california roll, sweet and sour sauce, egg drop soup, teriyaki chicken, and ham fried rice. The subtotal of this alone was $8.50. Amazing! Add to that the Pad Thai I got for the next day (which is delicious) and the slice of cheesecake drizzled with chocolate and strawberry sauce as well as whipped cream and a FREE 2 LITER of COKE! I mean, come on. The delivery person arrived totally on time with a wonderful attitude. I will definitely be ordering delivery from this restaurant again. read more

We've heard wonderful things about them so thought we would try to order online for our birthday. Great price...however, we received a call stating that they couldn't find our apartment. We gave directions (actually very simple; basically at the corner of two major streets). They called back and stated that the delivery guy couldn't find it but wanted us to come and pick it up. When I tried to ask what the problem was, she handed the phone to someone else who then asked me if I wanted to cancel. Huh? Atmosphere is great and food is always fresh, exceptionally flavored, and beautifully presented! Not just your standard Chinese food like Kung pao and orange chicken dishes, but we also absolutely love their fusion dishes like their Thai Curry Salmon and other dishes that seem a fusion of different Asian flavors! We visit there at least once a week and love the Chinese owners, Selena & Mike, who have been influenced by their food experiences in New York!
