The one and only reason I'm giving Black Pearl a one star is because there isn't an option to give them ZERO stars. As soon as we sat down and realized how filthy the table was with a film of grease, then our menus were sticky with leftover sauce, we knew it wasn't going to be a pleasant experience. I suggested we leave but the waitress came up and we didn't want to be rude so we decided to give it a chance, hoping the experience would get better. Having recently moved from a large metropolitan area with an abundance of top notch sushi options, I cannot be fooled, my first bite of their sushi brought me back to my college days of Rice-a-Roni nights. Yes, I kid you not, they clearly do not use real rice. It's more like rice-a-roni mush. We ordered 6 different rolls, and one was worse than the next, until I discovered that long black hair wrapped around my mango shrimp roll. That's when I had to call it quits. Needless to say. This is a BIG never again for me. Crossing my fingers we will have better luck at our next sushi find in the valley. read more

Like any combo japanese/chinese restaurant the Black Pearl is not perfect at either, but they are pretty tasty none-the-less. The decore is mildly trendy China Bistro style, and the wait staff is very friendly. The food comes in incredibly generous servings (save for the sashimi and sushi, but it is a bit cost prohibitive to be too generous with sushi grade fish), and at lunch the chinese side of the menu averages about $6 for a serving size that is easily two meals for an average appetite. It is a heck of a deal. During dinner the presentation of their more expensive items is top notch. Finally, they nailed the Hot and Sour soup. Its actually pretty rare to find a Chinese Restaurant that gets the right combo of Hot and Sour, but they did a pretty good job. Two stars based on the great tasting food. Waitress had a bitchy attitude. We were never greeted with any kind of smile. F------ ON SERVICE! Then she wouldn't let me add vegetables to my dish, not even for extra charge. So we asked if they could throw some broccoli on the side, and our only option was to order an entree size mixed vegetables for $8!! She then blamed it on the kitchen. I have been to Black Pearl twice now, and each time I go, I seem to like it less. I tried the Chicken Teriyaki and it was completely inedible. It was doused in this very sweet honey marmalade - so sweet that I had to wipe the sauce off to eat it. Even then, I couldn't stomach the rest of the dish. The dish does come with lots of vegetables though, but even that was completely covered in the sauce. read more

Fabulous food! Fabulous customer service and fast! Popped in for a to go order, didn't know what I wanted the gentleman helping me offered to make something special...whatever I wanted and then he offered suggestions. His first suggestion of something spicy & sweet seemed to hit the mark with my taste buds. Then, he threw in cilantro (which I think should be its own food group, it's so fabulous). I settled on this off menu creation, he went back, made the roll and reappeared within 5 minutes. And to top all this off, he asked if I would like to try it before I left...who does this?! What a gem! (well...Perl anyway). I'm just visiting Logan and walked over from the Holiday Inn Express. Was seated quickly and decided on the spicy chicken combo, served with rice (comes with fried rice but I prefer steamed), delicious spring roll, sushi, and soup. The food was extremely good. I started out with the egg drop soup, something I haven't had for years. It had an unexpectedly thick texture that turned out to be very pleasant, and it was prepared with fresh corn. Very flavorful and pleasant. The main course was beautifully plated (I included a picture). The spring roll was light and crispy on the outside without being at all greasy, and the filling was delicious. I don't think I've ever had a spring roll so well prepared before. Spicy chicken was not as spicy as i'd like (I'll have to ask them to ramp it up next time) but very flavorful. Each and every bite was "clean" (no fat, or tough little bits of cartilage. It's as if they had taken care to prepare each piece perfectly. The sauce was light, very flavorful and not too sweet. The meal included four nice size California rolls (I think they were California rolls anyway...I'm not that knowledgable about sushi) that were flawlessly prepared and had just a sliver of celery that gave them just the slightest bit of cool, crunchy texture. The wasabi was a little mild as well, but very flavorful. The dining area (and sushi bar in the background) was clean and modern looking and very comfortable. And when the check came I was floored...you just don't get food this tasty and well-prepared for such a very (extremely) reasonable price. If I have one small criticism it's that I felt slightly rushed. The main course arrived well before I'd finished my soup. That's it...my only gripe, and it wasn't a bad thing really. You are so luck to have such a wonderful place here. I read that they are under new management, which usually implies that it wasn't that great before. If that's the case, I would definitely give them another chance. I'll be going back tomorrow. read more

Black Pearl - Spicy chicken combo with egg drop soup. - Chinese Near Me - North Logan, Utah

Being a New Yorker I have one rule about Chinese restaurants, if I walk in and most people eating are Chinese, I sit down and order! That was the case in my first visit to Black Pearl. It was about 2:00 PM and I was starving! I ordered from the lunch special menu General Tso's Chicken, an Egg Roll, Miso Soup, and an order of Vegetable Fried Rice (which was an extra dollar). The soup came first and was excellent. The side noodles were good, not too greasy and the dipping sauce was yummy. I have been spoiled in New York with great food and didn't expect much from the Fried Rice other than peas and carrots for veggies. I was way wrong! It was just like back home with bean sprouts, water chestnuts, and the veggies you'd expect in traditional Chinese food. The Chicken was crunchy and moist with the expected spicy sauce and the egg roll was excellent! I was extremely pleased with the entire meal and the price was so low that I was embarrassed when I paid. They are definitely my "go to place" whenever I visit Logan, Utah! read more

Best Chinese restaurant in Utah!!! If you want to enjoy authentic Cantonese food this is the place. Just ask for the Chinese menu, you won't regret it. If you like soup, order the House noodle Soup; if you like spicy food, order the jalpeño pork. The Peking Duck is great! If you like tofu ask for Mapo Tofu. Also another great dish is Cantonese black pepper beef as well as Beef flat rice noodle. If you are willing to try something fatty but insanely tasty ask for the Hong Shao Pork. They DELIVER Chinese food in Logan! Logan doesn't really have great Chinese food and they never have, but I think this place has the best so far. We tried several main dishes and they were all fairly good. The House Fried Rice was really good. It's not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but I would likely order delivery again since Logan doesn't have a lot of options. I thought that the food was very good and there was plenty of it we had a take-home boxes and boxes of extra food. The cashew shrimp is very good. It is definitely my favorite so far. We had the dinner combo for two and we chose dinner b. Sweet-and-sour chicken was pretty good I've had better but it wasn't bad at all. Ham fried rice was great. The highlight of the dinner was definitely the cashew shrimp though the sauce was great the vegetables were perfectly cooked. People who had bad experiences before at the Black Pearl - it's time to give it another chance! The new management has been a FANTASTIC change. My husband loves sushi, but I hate all seafood, so we decided that this restaurant would be fun to try out since it has Chinese cuisine as well as sushi. Excellent Chinese food (their egg drop soup is the best!) and I will even order their Philly sushi roll now - it's that good; they've converted me. The food is NOT greasy like Formosa's and Mandarin's tends to be. Also, they'll deliver pretty much anywhere in Cache Valley as long as your order is over $20. My husband and I can order a full combo entree (which comes with whatever item you choose like tiny spicy or lo mein, plus rice, egg roll, soup, and 4 pieces of sushi), and 4 full sushi rolls, and pay about $30 (including tip). I really like Black Pearl. Everything is a great deal with really good service. I've never been disappointed by the service there and I go fairly often. They give you tons of really good food for a really good price. Their fried avocado rolls are the absolute best. Always hot, crispy, and fresh, never with soggy vegetables. The sushi is good as well, but my favorite thing is the combination dishes. The last time I went I got a teriyaki salmon that was super great. Never been disappointed by any of the food I've gotten there. I like it very much. The only thing thing I would change about this cute lil restaurant is the fact that it is always kind of messy. Not disgusting, but not on top of it either. A lot of kids leave messes that don't get cleaned up in a timely fashion, even when it's slow. read more

The worst service and nasty food. Went one night and was constantly being scalded by the waiter (I think he was the manager too) to hurry up and decide on what to order. "Hurry up! Hurry up! Your taking to long!!" the waiter kept saying. There was no one else in the place. Made our order and they took forever and brought out the wrong food. Not sure how they messed that up with no other customers. Got chewed out for telling them they gave us the wrong food. Finally got our food and it was cold and disgusting. Watched a waitress who looked drunk or drowsy drop a bunch of dirty dishes and just sit down and leave her mess there the whole time I was there. As you can imagine I left a 5 cent tip to make the guy know how much he deserves to go out of business and the manager chased us out to our car and slammed the receipt down I the ground. My husband and I usually eat here for lunch but decided to go out for dinner. I was very disappointed with the service and food. Our waitress spent a lot of time talking to another female employee instead of checking to see if we were finished and/or needed anything. I ordered the honey walnut chicken with ham fried rice, egg roll, and sushi. The rice was hot and very good. The sushi was room temperature instead of cool. My honey walnut chicken was not hot and the egg roll was overcooked on the outside and soft on the inside part of the wrapper. I ended up taking the food home and warmed it up in the microwave(except for the sushi which I put in the refrigerator to cool) which made it taste much better. The difference between the lunch and dinner food and service was like night and day. Our server did not do anything when I told her my food was not warm. Not going back for dinners and not sure about lunch if this is the way things are now. read more
