There was a foot support thing that was really far away and to have any hope of reaching it you had to slouch really far down in the seat. It was really uncomfortable. I've been here a couple times, and havent had the greatest experiences. My friend had chosen this place for her birthday. When we came in no one greeted us. I like to be greeted when I walk into a restaurant and get seating arrangements started quickly. Its only polite. We waited about 20 minutes, which was acceptable because we had a larger party than family. We sat down. Our waiter was very sarcastic. I am huge joking and sarcastic person, but some people don't like sarcasm and the jokes. My friends thought he had come off kinda rude. I ordered a Pina drink and it was kinda warm! 10 dollars for a drink and it literally sucked. I also ordered the Salmon with the veggies and mango salsa. The food came out fast. Tried Black Pelican tonight for a family date night. It was okay. Nothing was wrong but it was an average chain-like establishment. Started with drinks and edamame and bread nibbles with butter. For dinner the kids had little Ceasars pizza and milk and I tried mahi with dirty rice and roasted veggies ala Oscar. Again, it was okay. Nothing wrong, just average. Our server was great! Although their prices are a little high, the quality of the food is worth it. Everything I ordered was fresh, flavorful, and F A N T A S T I C For my appetizer, I ordered the calamari (of course), and some she crab soup to warm me up. I honestly wasn't disappointed at all. The calamari was served sizzling hot, which I love, because I love when my food pretty much burns my face off, and the soup was served fresh from the stove, just the steam from my cup of soup was already warming me up. But what I really want to highlight was the marinara sauce from the calamari. The sweetness from the sauce paired well with the saltiness of the skin. I would highly recommend ordering the calamari for your appetizer. If you're with a big party (when I went, I went with 6 other people total), you honestly don't need to order anything else other than that. They also give complimentary pita bread and butter. For my main entree, actually ended up getting the buffalo shrimp since I was pretty full from my appetizer orders. The fried skin had all the flavor, and the shrimps being tossed in the buffalo sauce just made it even better. I hope you all end up checking this place out. Their servers/hosts are all from within the area, and really take the time out of their night to talk to you. My husband recommended that we try this place, and when I looked it up on Yelp!, I was on the fence. We decided to give it a shot anyway. I'm glad we did, because all things considered, it was one of the better dining experiences I've had in quite a while. I noted going in that several people received bad service; my experience could not have been more different. The service we received was exceptional. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Each dish exceeded our expectations. I appreciated that all of the gluten free items were clearly marked as such on their menu. My husband got the fish duo, which he enjoyed. He did say the rice pilaf was very spicy but he didn't dislike it. I got the baked shrimp and lump crab in buerre blanc sauce, and I have to say that it was probably the best seafood I've had in quite a while. I subbed sautéed vegetables for my rice pilaf, and I was glad I did. The sautéed vegetables had basil pesto on them and were very good. Overall, the food and experience both exceeded my expectations and I would not hesitate to come back again. Just a note: they get bonus point for accurately calculating the recommended tip(s) at the bottom of the receipt. The Chesapeake Bay pizza with crab, corn, bacon, and Old Bay immediately grabbed my attention, so we had that and the Bangkok shrimp app. The wait was just a few minutes past the 15 minute quoted estimate. Overall good service and good food. Slightly overpriced. I hesitate to say that I'll be back, because of what I heard at the hostess station. Please be aware that when you call to place a reservation, according to Black Pelican, what you are doing is registering a "call ahead" which does not actually guarantee you an available table. Sounds like utter nonsense, if not outright misrepresentation to be honest. A woman walked in with what she thought was a reservation for 3 and was told she had a 45 minute wait. I rarely give five stars but this place is just great. We started with the baked Brie and the stuffed jalapeños. The Brie was cooked perfectly with the Melba sauce and house made pitas. Great combination. My wife had the house salad topped with grilled salmon- she loved it. I had the Stationkeepers rib eye steak. Cooked perfectly! Ended the meal with their awesome coconut cream pie and creme brûlée coffee. Our son had grilled chicken with mashed sweet potatoes! Served on a frisbee that he gets to take home!! We will definitely come here again. What gives the fifth star is its atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive. The feel is casual with a lot of conversations going on around. For today's visit, I ordered the MIXED CAJUN FISH BITES to start with and finish up with PELICANS HOUSEMADE CRAB CAKE. Overall, the food presentation and flavor profile was overly average. Thought the food was seasoned well and delectable. I must admit that I truly enjoyed every bite of it. The appetizer was probably the stellar item of the day. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. If there is one thing that I applaud for this place is using fresh and refreshing components of the dish. The customer service on the other hand was ok. Though the staff was friendly and polite but lack of enthusiasm. I don't complain but as per my observation the staff was obligated to do so because its part of their job. I'm pretty indifferent about this place. The food was ok, but it wasn't great. I did like it, though. I just felt like it was pretty overpriced. I wouldn't really say it was worth the price of it. None of us had really considered any of our food really stellar. We also ordered drinks--I thought might was pretty good, but my sister's was too strong for her taste. Our server was very friendly. I thought she was really great. The restaurant has a nice feel to it. It looks pretty spacious and open. It's also very conveniently located. I don't think I would go back, though. The Black Pelican impress me and a great spot to eat on a sunny day. I brought the family along and we had a nice time. We sat outside which was nice to have that as an option, it was beautiful outside. We definitely had to fight the fly army and the Queen, but the food was great. I wanted another round of those buffalo shrimp, banging! The ribs were a little burnt but crushed all the same. My girl enjoyed her salmon as well. The crab dip was excellent with the chips. I was expecting "fresh mozzarella" and delicious freshly diced Roma tomatoes like was listed on the description on the menu. Unfortunately the pizza had so much of the balsamic glaze it really overpowered everything else. The tomatoes were not fresh. It looked like they threw some shredded cheese on top, not my idea of "fresh mozzarella" that is usually on Margherita pizza. The crab rangoons were "okay" but were floating in too much sauce. The tacos came with a side of guac that was average, black beans that seemed a little watery, and pico de gallo that really was just some diced up tomatoes, no bueno. My fiance got a chicken sandwich and his sister got a burger. I believe they both went the cowboy route when dressing them up. Both seemed to enjoy their food, but my man didn't finish his fries, which is a rarity. I had a bite of the chicken sandwich and to me, it seemed a little too thin and pounded down.
