I will start by saying this used to be my favorite coffee spot. I have been coming to this location forever. Every once in a while, there's a little burp and that's OK. It happens in every business. But today was absolutely unbelievable. I pulled up and decided to get a medium iced caramel Blondie with a couple extra pumps of caramel. I like it in a 32 ounce cup for the extra ice I like it cold. It went from $6.70 plus the extra $.80 for the caramel. Today it was $10.90 for what.? That's $3.60 more than I usually pay when the young man at the window couldn't explain to me why it was so much more he brought over somebody else and he just told me that's how what it is now. Explanation was because we have to add more for caramel $3.60. Are you serious? You're gonna charge me $3.60 the amount of a regular coffee extra. Will needless to say I did not take the coffee and I will absolutely never go back. There are too many coffee spots around town they don't try to rip you off. And honestly depending on who makes it half the time it's not right anyway so you're paying for something that you have to throw away but you'd rather not complain. But now today was just the icing on the cake. Black Rock, you need to train your employees a little differently as they're not the best I have seen I will miss a couple of the employees that are there that I do appreciate and that make my coffee correct. I will be sure to go to Dutch Bros/Starbucks/10 other coffee shops around. Also be sure that you give them your phone number because a lot of times they forget to ask and you lose out on those free drinks that take 15 coffees to get one. read more

Love Black Rock coffee. This is one of few places that make sugar free caramel macchiato! I always get it with oat milk and I get an extra shot too as I like my coffee strong and robust! Other coffee concoctions are offered too. The baristas are always happy to see you and friendly. Service is quick. I always use the drive thru!!! read more

A 3.6 stars - not quite a 4. Good coffee, good service and some great food options. Prices are ok. In the past couple of months, I tried Black Rock at least 5-6 times. It has become our go to place when we are in this area in Scottsdale. We've always been there on Sunday mornings, and only tried it once during a working day. I never went in so this review is only based my drive thru experience. Sunday line is not very long but on weekdays, expect to wait a little longer. Coffee here is good. I've tried all my drinks so far hot and with coconut milk. Overall good taste but could be better. I expect the flavor would be different if I was using regular milk. The food options are also good. I tried their veggie burrito. it's tasty and has potatoes in it and comes with a dipping sauce on the side which works very well with it. The wrap has no cheese which is excellent if you are avoiding dairy. They have a salt bagel on the menu. It doesn't say that they add cream cheese but they do unless you mention that you want it on the side (or don't want it at all like me). Although it's called a bagel, it is not a bagel at all however, it is one of the best pieces of bread you will have there! It is a crusty roll that is sooooo good, I enjoyed having it warm, plain without anything! It was so delicious, I ordered it the next time I was there, plain again! Their coffee cake and blueberry muffins are very good and definitely worth a try. I tried some of their gluten free vegan options. The gf vegan banana bread was ok but not my favorite. It was kinda dry and dense. I purchased their gluten free vegan donut last time but didn't try it. Honestly it was so dense, it literally weighed heavy! Also it was very greasy, the grease was coming out of the bag while it sat on the table. As seen in the picture, it looks just ok, like something that a kid might be interested in especially with the sprinkles on top. This review is not based on the quality of the drinks here, which are generally quite good by corporate coffee chain standards - no, this is based on my last few visits which are a culmination through many years of inconsistency, incompetency, and lack of care. The last straw that lead me to write this is a young blonde female that seems new to the store. My first encounter with her, after ordering a drink with light ice, I'm given one filled 75% full of it, to the point where you could finish the drink in two minutes. When your straw can't go through the middle without fighting through an ice wall, it's too full. And I specifically order it this way to be able to savor what I pay for and so the flavors don't get diluted when it melts. Granted, I order americanos which yes, are water and espresso, but they've always managed to accommodate this by adding more water and cream to compensate. I've had this exact drink enough times to know that there is a difference in flavor when filling with ice. Despite that, when I asked her to remake it, she felt the need to tell me an americano is water and espresso and argue about it. Wow, thank you, Mrs. Barista, I didn't know that after ordering this drink hundreds of times! So I said just add more water and cream to fill it up. Then to my shock, she hands me back a drink half-full. I was rightfully annoyed by this point, so I told her fill up the cup. I'm not paying $5+ for half of a drink. What kind of BS is that to pass off to a customer? Does anyone honestly think that's okay to do? The mind boggles. Which brings me to my last visit. I placed a mobile order this time after accumulating enough points needed for a free one, any size. This used to be after 10 drinks (now it's 20), so I always splurge because it's deserved after having to spend over $100 to even get the reward. So I got an XL blended with flavors, extra shots and whipped cream. I specifically placed the order myself to avoid what happened last time, but lo and behold, the same blonde girl ends up making and handing me my order. I pretty much knew as soon as I saw her that I'd get attitude and a problem, and I did, without fail. I point out that she forgot my whipped cream, and instead of apologizing or saying "no problem", she says, "it wasn't on the order, but I'll add it". Okay, now I'm really pissed off. If you make a mistake, just own it! Don't accuse your customer without cause. Or better yet, don't say anything at all and just fix the problem. Why the need for the attitude? Why the need to shame someone for simply wanting what they paid for, the way they asked it? I honestly think this chick has a grudge against me and I don't know why, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. If this is how she treats people asking her to correct her own mistakes, god only knows how she treats truly difficult customers. After the countless times I've had my drink made wrong, the countless times I've needed to have them correct it, and now the ridiculous attitude from this employee that I have no way of knowing when I'll encounter if coming here, I'm done with this location. And that's really inconvenient for me since I live right across the street. I will literally drive 5 miles out of my way to not have to deal with this BS ever again. Get a handle on your employees here Black Rock. I can only imagine how many more encounters like mine will continue for your customers. I'm just a guy who wants my drink made right, consistently. After all the money I've spent with you, I believe I deserve that. And by the way, that last drink wasn't made right either. read more

Shea & 114th st struggled today. I was the only person ordering inside and...no cars at drive thru. It took 3 people almost 5 minutes to pour a coffee and grab a scone. I wanted to buy gift cards for Christmas. I didn't think I should do it through the drive in so I walked inside. There was a young man taking care of the drive in window and a young lady moving around prepping something. Not a look in my direction. No acknowledgment. Waited. Because of the holidays I did not want to walk away without the gift card, so I stayed put. No mouth out of me... it's the holidays..... Omg! The Mexican Mocha!!! Ok, I've been on a mocha kick lately. I'm sure it can't be all that healthy but I can't seem to stop myself. I LOVE LOVE the Mexican Mocha here. Hints of almond, vanilla and cinnamon... the taste is too, too good. No idea what their coffee actually tastes like but this mocha tastes incredible. Thankfully there isn't a Black Rock close to my house, or I'd have a problem. Outside patio area here isn't very inviting. Two tables with chairs in the blazing sun. We just came off the Dog Wash Trail and needed coffee. This place was convenient so we stopped in. It felt new so I assume it hasn't been around for too long. The cashier took our order and after a couple of orders were delivered, ours came up. Unfortunately the order was wrong so we had to get the attention of someone behind the bar. This took some doing but eventually the original cashier got involved and immediately decided to remake our drinks. Soon after we were enjoying exactly what we ordered--a Mexican latte and a soy milk latte. Both were excellent. The barista even threw in a free drink for our inconvenience. Parking was easy and the drive-thru seemed constantly busy at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Definitely worth checking out one of these coffee shops closer to our place. read more

Great coffee just opened on 5/1, came here to get a cup of latte with lavender. It's only available drive thru for now but it was really easy to order. The staff spoke clearly and repeated my order to make sure I am getting exactly what I wanted. Easy credit card at the pick up window, it was very quick. They give you an option to add tips to your credit card. Latte was very good, rick and creamy. I just love my latte with lavender. Black Rock Coffee Second time at this location, first time was at Grand Opening and the drive thru line was so long we did not have time too wait, so today they had a promotion for $2 any medium drink so we decided to give it a try again. I am not a coffee drinker, so it would not be fair for me to rate the coffee type drinks, so I ordered a Strawberry Smoothie. The Strawberry Smoothie I thought was very good, I prefer a slushie, because sometimes if the smoothie contains dairy products it just does not set well with me. I enjoyed the icy portion of the smoothie and the blend and texture of the smoothie was very good, however later in the day, I discovered that there must have been some dairy products included. The coffee portion of the review was by my daughter and wife. My daughter could be pretty demanding and particular about her coffee, she ordered the Mexican Mocha iced and she loved it. She loved the taste and the flavor of the coffee, she generally prefers Dutch Bros and Bikini Bean as her favorite coffee drive thrust but would place Black Rock Coffee up with them. Caramel Truffle was ordered by my wife and she loved the taste and flavor. She would recommend this drink and the medium size was plenty for all of us. Coming from the west, not easy to find or see until you are right on 116th street, the building is just a bit North of Shea so not right on the corner. read more

First time visiting inside this store on this beautiful windy Saturday morning. I ordered a large vanilla latte with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso, my man ordered an Americano and the server asked if I wanted a puppyccino which YES of course for my lil fur baby . Store was super modern and clean. We ended up sitting outside on the front patio where they were playing fun 80's music. I love black rock coffee over Starbucks lately. It seems to have a more smooth coffee taste rather than burnt taste like Starbucks has, in my opinion. I see these stores popping up all over the valley.
