The pizza here is a decent 6.8/10 service INSIDE the restaurant is always good no complaint there. But what's going to keep me from patronizing this business in the future, from someone who's been coming in at least once a week for a while now, is the fact they've enlisted or subscribed to an a.i. service to take their phone orders. The ai service is trash, companies that do this are clear in their intentions they don't value their employees and the difference human touch makes in customer service. We were here a few weeks ago for dinner, just because it was down the street from where we were staying and they were open when the place we were going to go to, closed early that day. When we got there, they were clearly *super* busy, so I was worried it'd take forever to get a table and/or food, but they had a few seats at the bar (my favorite place to sit, anyway, generally), and yes, everyone was clearly running around like crazy, but they all seemed friendly (when you could snag one from the dozen other things they were doing). Anyway, we still got our order taken, our drinks, and our pizza, all pretty fast. The pizza we got was $34 for a large, though I will say, a large was 4 meals worth (we both also had lunch the next day, so not actually a bad value). We did like that they had some Hawaiian flavored ones - we went for the one that was basically a combo, but with kalua pork. The pizza, I'd say, was good, but not exceptional. I enjoyed it all well enough, but I feel like there's a reason Hawaii is famous for its poke and Japanese and obviously its Hawaiian food, not its pizza so much. Plenty of toppings (though I'm a "more is more" kind of person with pizza toppings), and all the toppings were pretty good (I'm still sad my wife didn't want to try the moco loco pizza), overall, pretty good pizza, might be the best pizza on the island, but definitely not quite as good as any of several of the best pizzas in Long Beach, let alone in NYC. I am glad we dined in, so I could have a cider with it (well, half of it; funny enough the other half we ate at a winery the next day for lunch, as just as good cold flatbread). I was happy they had a cider on draft from Ola - Ola makes great ciders, just wish they'd distribute them to California! (I did go there and bring a bunch back, also, obviously.) Great to support local cider, but also just good to have a great cider to go with pizza! (The cider was $7 - totally reasonable.) My wife had their $3 (nonalcoholic) house-made strawberry lemonade - I tried some of it, it was also very good. Finally, the reason they were originally on my road-map, for dessert - my original itinerary notes for myself put them down with the note, "ube cannoli? Possibly just go there for dessert". They do still have an ube/chocolate cannoli for $7, we shared one obviously (ube is having a huge moment in Long Beach right now too, but I think Hawaii got there first). Delicious, obviously, though funny enough, coming from someone who always wants more chocolate... the ube was a little bit lost under all the chocolate. Still, great. read more

Stop reading the reviews and go get pizza here! Black Rock Pizza is one of the best pizzas that I have ever had. They hand-toss their dough, and it is divine. The dough is super fluffy but still had a little bit of crunch to it- the perfect medley for pizza. We liked that they had so many signature pizzas, but we opted for a build-your-own. We got a large pizza with garlic, olive oil, olives, pepperoni, eggplant, and a pesto drizzle. It was divine! If you're in Kona and looking for a place to eat, this is the place to go. BEAUTIFUL sunsets from the back porch, too. The service was friendly, just like everywhere else on the island. The only drawback is parking can be limited, so make sure to keep that in mind when you go. Pro tip: Go to Costco and purchase their gift card there and use it while on your trip! This place is very good, clean and friendly staff. If you are planning to eat there, get there early because as the seating is limited but the staff will accommodate a big party as a small party. I saw a party of 8 so they are very flexible. We sat down and the waiter came over and took order, ensured that our drinks were always full and with a smile on his face. Our only concern with this place is timeliness. We placed our order about an hour and a half ahead of when we were to pick it up and when we arrived at our designated pick up time has to still wait almost 30 minutes for the pizza. The pizza and breadsticks were delicious and very tasty. The dough used to make the breadsticks was very flavorful. Driving through the Captain Cook area on our vacation Black Rock Pizza just always stuck out to me. And to my surprise we ended up getting an airbnb right up the street and Black Rock Pizza had great reviews so dinner was a no brainer. Now I'm a sucker for pizza- thin crust, thick crust, stuffed crust I love it all. Our party of 5 came in on a Saturday evening around 6 and we got seated immediately. The host was very nice and our server was great. The ambiance here totally gave off dive bar vibes with what seemed to be many regulars frequenting this establishment. They had a great drink menu, the signs they hung throughout the building were funny and they had the music blaring with some good song choices. Now for the pizza we all ordered the 8" personal pizzas. I went with the local boy pizza which was fire! Everybody else just ended up going with picking out their own toppings and making their pizza personalized to them. The wait time after ordering was not bad at all and once the food came out it was delicious- so much so that the kids wanted to order another pizza to go. Seems to be the best pizza in Big Island and I'm not surprised. There are a lot of funny quotes and images inside the restaurant as you enter. Menu has a grand assortment of different pizzas you can select. I selected the Hoi Boi and it was solid. Sweet yet also savory really hit the spot. I also went with what was popular on yelp which was the pepperoni rolls. Really solid kind of like an elevated bagel bites. Also had the Big Island Balls which weren't exactly my favorite but not too bad. Was kind of like a small chicken bake from Costco. Parking isn't so great here since there only a few spots in front. We found this place last year and it was so good we made sure to come back this year while on the Big Island! There are two BRP but we like the Captain Cook one for the bigger size and seating. The Big Island Balls are amazing! The Caesar salad is big enough to share and it's really fresh! We spotted this pizzeria on our way to the black sand beach and I was committed to stopping here on our way back. We ordered the Hoi-Boi, vegetarian, and pepperoni. All three were excellent.
