We happened to be in the area and stopped into the Black Swan for brunch. I had heard great things about the place and was eager to give it shot. From the moment we entered the pub, we were transferred to the United Kingdom with its tavern-like decor. They had a quaint dining room, a bar area with soccer team schwag hanging overhead, a dainty tea room, and a dimly lit space inside what used to be a bank vault. We were seated at a high-top table in the bar, which was fine, as there was a large party with rowdy children in the dining room. Thankfully, the layout allowed us to avoid the majority of their loudness, though their sheer party size clearly held up the kitchen, since it took a while for us to get our food. There was a specific brunch menu with some breakfast-forward items like Loaded French Toast, but we were also given their full-day menu with many more options. I decided to get two smaller dishes to count as my complete meal. First, I had the Chipotle Chicken Chili, which was apparently a recent addition to the menu. I omitted the scoop of sour cream that was supposed to sit on top of the mound of soup, but I did not feel like I was missing anything by doing so. The smoky broth was packed with kidney beans, stewed tomatoes, and chunks of ground chicken. I thought it was delicious, but a bit thin and oily. I also sampled a side of the Sweet and Sour Brussels Sprouts, which were similarly greasy, but crunchy and well-flavored. In fact, they could have used a bit more marinade to really pop. My companion had positive things to say about his burger and fries. We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere, friendly service, and tasty food at the Black Swan, and I would certainly return to try some of their other traditional, European dishes. read more

Unfortunately we did not enjoy our lunch. We started with Bloody Mary's, our server told us they were delicious. Unfortunately they were nothing but a salt bomb of tomato juice, they were horrible! Incredibly disappointed and frustrated tonight my partner and I came for a date night at 9pm to kick off our 4th of July weekend and we left on empty stomachs. Host seated us in an area where we weren't asked for our drink order for nearly 20 minutes after arriving, that set the tone for the evening, since the waitress said no one told her that we were there. We then placed our food order at the same time and the waitress said no problem. We proceeded to wait another 30 min with her then saying our food was brought to a different table. She said we could have the bill forgiven or wait for a new order to be prepared we opted to give a chance, however, when she returned nearly 30 more minutes later making it nearly an hour and a half no food other than fries they brought since they thought that would be a concession she comes with only 1 order not 2 at the table when we said we originally ordered 2 Rigatoni dishes....she said she was sorry and proceeded to try to hand us the bill. We asked for the manager at that point since, we were really hungry and the order was wrong and to aggravated to eat then told him we were fed up and wouldn't be paying for this kind of POOR SERVICE and left. My daughter was in the marathon race yesterday and she wanted burgers and a Guiness after her run. So we decided to try the Black Swan. We were promptly seated at a 6 high top in the middle of the room at noon. Within minutes the place was packed. Our server Diana arrived quickly and took our drink orders. Guiness, Asbury Lager and a Cosmo. The Guiness was refreshingly NOT too cold as it should be, in room temperature pint glasses. The Lager was crisp and tasty. The Cosmo was on the mark. We ordered the Irish burgers and the prime rib open faced sandwiches. When the server brought the food out, he was carrying a huge prime rib. We told him we ordered the prime rib sandwiches, but the prime rib looked so good, I decided to eat one of them. It was perfect medium rare, juicey and extremely large portion. We sent the other back without issue. The burgers were cooked perfect medium rare. Excellent fries. The room was very loud as the bar was packed and there was a baby shower adjacent to us. Regardless, we had a great time. In the future, we will make a reservation to sit in "The Vault". Looked like a very cool space. The building is an old bank. Its an actual safe room. My husband made reservations for us at the Black Swan for a rainy Wednesday evening in December. Cookman Ave used to be an old stomping ground of mine as it was being built up so I was excited to try this new to me restaurant. When we first entered it had a really cool European Gastropub vibe. It was an old bank so the ceilings are immensely tall and they even have a vault in the back to eat (though it was closed and we couldn't eat in that room - bummer). But we did get to eat in the front tea room. It was so pretty and it was nice to sit at a window and look out onto the street. We ordered our drinks - a Lavender Gin Fizz and a Pornstar Martini. Both were pretty good, didn't really blow us away, but still delicious to drink. Now, on to the food! My husband and I both ordered off the Special Menu. My husband had the Beef Stew and I ordered the Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle with Brussels Sprouts on the side. Wow! The food was phenomenal! The spices and flavor in the Beef Stew was to die for! And it came with slightly buttered mini potato buns that were awesome as well. My entree was SO good. Very light, even though it was a cream sauce, which I totally appreciate. I could also really taste the light lemon flavor in it. So good! The Brussels Sprouts were also delicious, cooked to perfection, crispy, with a great sweet and sour sauce. We decided to order dessert and went with the Apple Galette. If you have room for dessert, I HIGHLY recommend you get the Apple Galette. The puff pastry it came in? Sooooooo warm, flakey, and definitely homemade. I paired it with an Irish Coffee and it was the perfect ending to our dinner. Believe it was bass on the special menu but then after about 15 minutes after ordering we're told it's not ready yet. The bartender was very nice and made solid martinis. For food we shared the burger, cheddar bacon tots, and the scotch egg. Everything was executed to perfection. The tots were enormous and so flavorful. The scotch egg could be the best version I've ever had. Fried to a crisp with a nice, soft yolk and well seasoned sausage. We've passed here many times and then finally decided to try it. We went a few weeks ago on a Friday night and sat at a high top in the bar area I don't have any pictures but it was a great experience my husband had some type of lobster over the pasta which was good there could have been more lobster but we're not complaining. And I had the open prime rib steak sandwich which was absolutely to die for! We started with the baked brie, it came in a cute little cast iron skillet (very hot!) with crackers on the side and it had some type of jam circled around it and it was fantastic! We both ordered the Salmon, which does come with the skin, and it was over the lightly whipped potatoes and sauteed beets and mushrooms. This meal was so incredible I'm happy that I chose that for my main dish. For dessert, we ordered the bourbon infused peanut butter cheesecake which was out of this world. Andre was our server. Very attentive, very professional, great personality, explained every single thing on the menu and when we ordered the salmon he was sure to clarify that it would be cooked to a medium and what was also included on the plate. For drinks I ordered the Paloma Up, very light and refreshing. My husband ordered the black rose. The Black Rose is one of those smoked drinks that when Andre brought it over, there was a little lid to it and you could see the smoke on the inside and he would lift it up and the smoke dissipated and it smelled delicious!!! First time here and was very surprised. We had been by but never really knew what this place was. It is an excellent pub with a lot of seating and some really nice decor and atmosphere. The staff are very nice and welcoming and I found it very cool how they utilized the old bank vault in the back as additional seating area with a different vibe. The drinks were good. There was a lot of drink and it had a lot of good flavor. They are unique and actually very good! The food was also good. Its not a Michelin star restaurant, but it works and is cooked well. The menu is pretty good for anyone looking for a quick snack or even a nice meal. I highly recommend checking this place out! read more
